    You may laugh at Beast Speach. I laughed a bit, at first. The warlock went pact of the chain, beast speach, eyes of the runekeeper, and other so called weak invocations, like buffing his familiar.
    A creative player can wreck absolute havoc with these things.
    I had planned the rebellion to be hard, almost no chance of real success. The warlock sends his familiar into the mines and around the docks, speaking to all the beasts of burden. The warlock turned their food and pack animals against them, speaking through his familair and putting his persuasion and deception skills to good use while busy doing other stuff with the party.
    The paladin and knights doing cavalry stuff was nothing compared the warlocks familiar leading a stampeding horde of rothe, aurochs, chuul, and giant lizards all over the city. Oh and the giant flock of cave bats he picked up along the way.
    His familar did more damage with those invocations than all 8 pcs did combined. Their best battle only worked because they timed their charges to come in right after the stampade ran thru and over all my bad guys.
    If a dungeon master tells you, "Bro that invocation sucks, dont take it, it's weaksauce" it is because like me, he learned the hard way and doesnt want you to bring ALL the chaos to a carefully planned campaign. Fr fr

Everyone before me quickly was in a bad place so I went for the throat and cast Summon greater demon behind the caster with the command "Tear him limb from limb." Pointing to the caster. The DM freaked out and half yelled Why would you do that?" My only response was "it seemed like a good idea and he can only break free on a Nat 20.". Without missing a beat he rolled the save... 20. So the fight continues but the Bulgara frees itself but since the closest target was still the caster he went there. After the session the DM said that was a good move. I appreciate your input here but I’m not underselling anything. The new pact of the tome gives you access to all 1st level ritual spells. Higher level ones are useful, yes. But, unless I’m missing something, all the book of ancient secrets would give you with the new 2024 rules is the ability to copy level 2+ ritual spells you find into your book of shadows. I have to agree with csdn here. BOAS was good because it gave you access to higher level rituals. The L1 rituals arent really that amazing. While they partially rolled BOAS into the base POTT with its ritual spell feature, the fact they capped it to L1 spell ever... make it by far the weakest pact invocation. I could just take ritual caster feat for example, and get +1 ASI, two to SIX L1 rituals at all times (not just 2 changing on "short" 1 hour long rest) and the scribe wizard's ability to cast one ritual instantly per day. A far far superior option. If BOAS wasnt still an option then POTT has only two real uses... to save invocations by giving you eyes of the rune keeper, beast speech and eldritch sight but with a 10 minute cast time, or for a celestial warlock who wants to have fun with Agonized Word of Radiance, stary wisp, produce flame, holy word or firebolt instead of eldritch blast.

  • @DeadmanwalkingXI

    Pact of the Tome can also get you Shillelagh, which has a lot of the same bonuses as Pact of the Blade at early levels (though, admittedly, only with a 1d8 weapon). Plus, obviously, two more cantrips and some spells.
    Honestly, it's strongly arguable that a melee Warlock should do that instead of Pact of the Blade then retrain to Blade at 5th level when they get Thirsting Blade. It being 1d8 is a down side, but the extra spells are super handy and if you're not going with Str 13 for Heavy weapons, it's not too big of a damage hit, and, if you keep it and add Pact of the Blade at 5th level instead of replacing, the damage escalates from there.
    One especially good option is dipping Fighter for shields and armor plus a Fighting Style and Weapon Masteries, keep Shillelagh on top of Pact of the Blade, as a one handed 1d10 weapon with Topple is pretty great (and that's what you get with Shillelagh on a Staff at 5th level). Combines especially well with Polearm Master and the Dueling Fighting Style.
    You can also, of course, get Shillelagh with Magic Initiate (Druid) if you don't want to deal with Pact of the Chain, but it's still a combo worth thinking about, especially for low level melee Warlocks or those dipping Fighter.
    I also think you're really underestimating Jump and thus Otherworldly Leap. Jump is effectively just +20 feet Movement Speed in the 2024 rules, and a Bonus Action to cast as well as no concentration, so it usually stacks on top of things like Misty Step for mobility. This is particularly true since the other solution you suggest doesn't actually work...Magic Initiate is limited to 1st level spells and cannot get you Misty Step. Otherworldly Leap is probably overkill on an Archefey Pact Warlock, but it's handy for other people who want a resourceless mobility boost.

    Do I need Warcaster if I have a pact blade weapon focus? Weapon focus only means I don’t need material components that aren’t costly, correct? Playing my first Warlock ever and that has me a little confused!

    • @rogerexcell249
      @rogerexcell249 4 дня назад

      Focus replaces *zero gold cost* M components if its the correct type of focus for your spellcasting feature. Also a focus can be held in the same hand that does S. So normally a caster would have one hand holding a focus, and the other a weapon. Pact of the blade having the weapon as a focus (regardless of casting class) means when you have your pact weapon in hand it now satisfied S and M requirements of your spells of any class with that occupied hand. Basicly allowing dual wielding/sword and board (shield and weapon) and 2 handed spellcasting.
      IMPORTANT! Spells with a gold cost M componet (like say... revivify needing diamonds) you still need to hold the component when casting. You'd either need to drop your shield or sword to cast the spell. Two handed weapons can be held one handed so you can just take a hand off the hilt/bow grip and hold the material in the now free hand.
      ALSO! Warcaster does NOT count as a foci, so while the weapon hand can be used to perform S componets, it does NOT allow for M componets of spells, so you'd still need a hand free to hold a foci/the material components from a component pouch. War caster does not in and of itself allow sword and board (two handed does work as they can take a hand off the hilt while spellcasting to grab the M at the time of casting).
      In short for two handed either option is fully functional... for dual wield/sword and shield, the pact weapon is superior. Thats said, most people take warcaster for the ADV on concentration and the reactive casting. Both still good features to pick up even if you take POTB. Having both is still a valid choice.

    Personally.. I'd skip Investment of the Chain Master. Unless you find some way of increasing their HP they rarely have enough HP to survive one hit. At most it might have 24HP with a Sphinx of Wonder and at a pathetic 13AC. Even a basic fireball's average damage of 27 will one shot it. Their damage is so low with one single attack it also doesnt matter making it's attack less resisted by changing it's type to radiant or necrotic, plus I'd never want to give up my own bonus action to let it attack at all. The resistance might make it last 2 hits... but again... it costs its reaction to do it against ONE isntance of damage which means it can't deliver touch spells any more since you'll be saving the reaction for this, and most foes will have multi attack, so they'll just attack it again the same round and finish it off. You're always better off just taking something more useful as your invocation, watching your familliar get splatted and recast it. Hell, a basic imp, sprite or quasit from the basic POTC feature has either invisibility or shapechanging to try and blend into the background and this has much better odds of keeping it intact.

I always thought those Invocations were good because the spells were good, especially on a warlock. I thought it was odd that they werent on the warlocks list of spells in the first place, although, I think Bane made it onto their list in 2024. No, they will not. If you have 2014 content enabled, you will still be able to refer to 2014 versions of functions like invocations in your character sheet.
      Further, I am treating invocations as they instruct across the whole of the book: “Everything is backwards compatible unless it has been reprinted”. For example, other subclasses can be chosen even though the “Walock Subclass” feature has been reprinted. It follows that older options for Eldritch invocations should be compatible as well if not reprinted in the 2024 PHB.
      If this is not the case, they have done a terrible job of making that clear and I will update this video when/if they do. My intent was to at least make it easy for viewers to discern what is and what isn’t from 2024 so that they can decide for themselves depending on what their DM rules.

    Especially is highly optimized games, Warlocks struggle with their sturdiness and survivability due to the fact that Pact Magic doesn't lend itself nicely to spells like Shield, Absorb Elements, Silvery Barbs, or Counterspell. This makes Tomb of Levistus extremely good in helping a Warlock tank a massive hit that would down them, as getting 50-200 Temp HP at a cost of a reaction and a turn is great when death would cost that turn anyhow.

      So, first and foremost, I am remembering a JC tweet that said sorcery points are only INTENDED to be used with sorcery spell slots. That makes it RAW but not RAI.
      Then this clarification came about a while ago: x.com/JeremyECrawford/status/938568519385456641 So, aspect of the moon doesn't remove your need for long resting, just your need for sleeping.
      Granted, you could still remove levels of exhaustion with enough diamond dust and a friend that can cast greater restoration on you once per day but that seems inconvenient at best and still makes aspect of the moon kinda pointless at worst.
      Being a rational person, I guess I just assumed they'd add that clarification for sorcery points to the new printing of the book. But maybe I shouldn't be surprised that they didn't. TLDR, Coffeelock is pretty much dead as of a while ago and Cocainelock doesn't need aspect of the moon to work anyway.

    My understanding was that RAW, Eldritch Invocations are Class Features and as such the old ones that weren’t reprinted are NOT available on a 2024 Warlock.
    Just checked and the PHB support thread says, “Legacy Warlock Invocations aren’t available for the 2024 Warlock.” but Legacy applies to only the old version of reprinted options, so we should be ok to use them. I’m happy to be wrong here.

      @@ElocNodnarb It’s supposed to be backwards compatible. I did a lot of research before making this video.
      It’s a bit confusing because they’ve made so many announcements about the legacy spells and magic items on DNDbeyond but there is a post that spells out directly that base 5e invocations that HAVEN’T been reprinted are still available for the 2024 warlock.
      The PHB support thread you’re referencing seems to contradict this so I would assume that they mean DNDBeyond *specifically* doesn’t support it. However, it’s a huge mess so I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed their minds on this whole backwards compatible thing. If that happens, I’ll come back and edit this video to reflect that change.

    @Golmov_the_Wretched 2 месяца назад +1

    Hard disagree on Pact of the Talisman being worse than the others. It's far less interesting than the others, I'll give you that. But that bonus applies to concentration checks and thats massive for a warlock with their limited spell slots.
    It may even save you a feat or two that you'd have otherwise used to protect your concentration. Given how feat starved most characters are that's huge.

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 месяца назад +1

      You do have a point there about concentration checks. But I still feel like it’s the worst pact by far. Eldritch mind does more for your concentration and picking up the skilled origin feat with lessons of the first ones will probably serve you better for ability check boosts in the long run.

    • @Golmov_the_Wretched
      @Golmov_the_Wretched 2 месяца назад

      @@ConstructedChaos whether it's the best or the worst pact is a bit build, level, and table dependent in my opinion. I'd argue that having an imp at very high levels is nowhere near as good as having one at low levels. Ditto with cantrips most of the time. I would personally never take the skilled feat.
      But the maths around advantage is heavily dependent on the target number. With 14 con you need to roll an 8 to make most concentration checks. PotT reduces that to (on average) 5.5. Mathematically that's a very similar probability to having advantage. Advantage gives the best return with a target roll of 11, and there it's no competition, but that isn't necessarily what is happening at the table.
      If we're talking about very easy or very difficult roles then advantage is considerably less useful than a straight D4 bonus. That's more likely to come up at high levels though.
      And PotT stacks with Eldritch Mind of course. If you really care about concentration then you can take both and possibly put off getting con proficiency via a feat. Both feats and invocations are also limited resources too, and there are many good choices for both. No character can have everything they want.
      Edit: I should clarify that I'd take Eldritch Mind first in the 2024 rules every time. That wasn't an option in the 2014. I would definitely consider taking PotT with a higher level invocation slot in 2024 though.

    Correction on fiendish vigor; its wording was changed and no longer casts as first level, it just casts without consuming a spell slot. So you cast it at whatever spell level your pact slot is, and you get the max amount of hp. This is far more useful in mid levels than it used to be and I’d recommend keeping it if you have nothing else to fill out those invocations

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  2 месяца назад +3

      As I understand, when you cast a spell without consuming a spell slot, the spell is cast at its base level. How does the wording get around this? I don’t think it does but I’m always open to being corrected.

      If you don’t want to use the old invocations, then don’t. I’m simply providing them as an option since it appears to be that they are.
