    Thank you Kaasari for providing the test bike: www.kaasari.fi
    CORRECTION: Because I'm a .. moron.. I have converted height to my video directly to FT!!.. I'm actually 5 ft 8.5" (174cm). So all the heights mentioned in the video are only correct in the metric system (cm).
    This is NOT a sponsored video. I freely speak my mind about the bike and there was no requirement to mention the company.
    A few thoughts before you bash me in the comments. This was just a quick ride and my first impressions on the Aprilia Tuareg 660 so anything I talk on the video is just me trying to feel the bike out on this short ride so very unscientific.
    I did the same test ride TWICE so that I could try and feel if I found the same things to be true on both runs and here are my thoughts:
    The bike feels extremely light coming from a Tenere 700 owner. It feels very nimble and easy to handle. It clearly wears it's weight lower than the Tenere 700 does and it is a huge benefit especially off the pavement. The Tuareg also is much narrower between the riders legs so it is way easier to reach the ground on the stock bike compared to the Tenere. This is also assisted by the slightly lower seat height of the stock Tuareg compared to the stock Tenere. With all this Aprilia still managed to keep the same excellent ground clearance as the Yamaha. All this could potentially offer me a better experience doing harder offroad sections as I could manage the bike better stopping on ruts and tough spots. Tenere tends to go down very easily as there is no stopping the bike after it starts going down on a tough spot. I assume the Aprilia is easier to lift after it's been downed which has been a problem of mine with the Tenere.
    Both bikes are such a joy to ride and anyone who owns either one is lucky to do so.

    I liked the review because it is mostly neutral, without favoring any motorcycle. When a T7 owner with a lot of miles says he is impressed with the Tuareg, that's a great compliment to Aprilia and tells me they did a great job. I was thinking about which motorcycle to buy for a year. My list included Yamaha T7, KTM 890, Aprilia Tuareg 660, and Honda Transalp 750. The choice fell on the Tuareg because it gives the most for the money invested. I sold my BMW 1200 GS Adventure (2011) and Kawasaki KLE 500 to buy the Aprilia Tuareg with full equipment and put a lot of additional equipment on it. I'm not into any heavy off-road or world travel. I would have to have two bikes for something like that. The Tuareg covers enough of both worlds for me, and it doesn't cost too much.
    As for breakdowns, I followed the situation before I bought it and I can only say one important thing. Aprilia, like many other Italian manufacturers, has problems with quality control. Tightening screws, poor sealing of the water pump seal, fuel sensor, and some other minor things that I can't remember right now. Since I have a 2023 model, I don't have a problem with the water pump seal, and I solved other things preventively so they wouldn't surprise me because I was too lazy to check. I've done about 7,000 km and haven't had a single breakdown, and I'm not sparing it because it's under warranty. If something is going to break, let it break in those first two years while the warranty is in effect.
    For all those who are worried about the reliability of a motorcycle that would leave you on the road, those are a bit exaggerated and inflated by people who heard it from others. You have to be the owner of the motorcycle and ride some miles with it to be able to honestly and realistically comment on something about it. Everything else is an opinion, and everyone has an opinion today.

      I don't think a midweight adv is the right bike for road touring and light gravel road use... But if that is what you're gonna do, then the bike with cruise control and the quickshifter and the comfy seat should win.

    • @LyonsLeo
      @LyonsLeo 2 месяца назад +1

      @@colinbowman8816 What do you recommend? My previous bike was an Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES 1100. While it was rock solid on the highways, I prefer the Tuareg in literally every other situation below 75MPH. Twisties, urban, gravel roads and certainly off-road - even loaded with a week's camping gear - The Tuareg is superior, IMO, considering the difference in price especially.

    • @colinbowman8816
      @colinbowman8816 2 месяца назад

      @@LyonsLeo As always, the answer is "it depends" on exactly how much of each surface you do, and how much distance you want to cover. But if you aren't going into the woods and using it like a dirt-bike, I would say, you don't need the suspension travel, ground clearance, or 18/21 wheelset. So you can get a better handling bike on the road with 17" wheels. something more comfortable sitting at highway speed. Could be a slightly used Multistrada, GS, scrambler etc.

    If the Tuareg 660 was made by either of the big four from Japan (and the reliability that comes with that) - it would have been the adv bike of the decade. It's better than the T7 in every way besides not being a Yamaha. Am I saying the Tuareg is unreliable? Nope, but I've heard about enough things to know it isn't as reliable as the T7.
    Great video my friend!

Only issue with my T660 after 2k is a fuel leak at the fuel pump at mile 20 or so and it was easy fix (others have had same issue). I get the feeling my T660 will be very reliable.

    Tank on the Tuareg is designed differently from the Tenere. It´s tilted downwards underneath the seat, which contributes to the all over feel of the bike being less top heavy that the Tenere 700.

    What a great track to ride 🤩 You are in a comfortable ADV situation to have such tracks in front of your door.
    About the handle bar. Loose some bolts and move the handle bar towards to you or a bit more to the front. The ends do raise or get lower, even without a dedicated raiser set.

    I had similar impressions when I test rode a Tuareg. One thing you did not mention is the excessive heat oming from the CAT. It can be fixed with a different exhaust system but still needs to be mentioned. The elehpant in the room is the spotty dealer network and like you mentioned a relative unproven design vs the tried and true CP2. Nice impressions!

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  10 месяцев назад +4

      To keep the warranty on a new bike it usually is required to service the bike accordingly to the manual. In a brand specific shop so that's what I think dealers are mostly for after the purchase.
      I like to do my own basic mainenance so having bikes serviced at dealers is not really something I even like to do. They usually do a piss poor job anyway as they are in a schedule. Doing it myself I know exactly how everything is and is supposed to be.

    • @WyomingFamilyAdventures
      @WyomingFamilyAdventures 9 месяцев назад +1

      The requirement to take the bike to the dealer to keep your warranty coverage does not apply in the USA. However, if you do need warranty repairs having a dealer nearby is probably much easier to deal with. We recently bought 2 of these bikes and are in Wyoming where there is absolutely no dealers. So far we have no regrets, time will tell, and you can check our channel for updates as well as for some of the best accessories for the terrain in our area.

    On the low down power matter, speaking from experience on both; the slower technical riding on the T7 has a much better 'tractorbillity' in low rmp where the Taureg flames out quite easily. It's not necessarily a 3K rpm or lower pull to speed, it's about the linear power the bike can output under load at very slow speeds.

    I was tempted by this over the KTM 890 Adventure but the KTM has such a low CoG and excellent engine those won me over and away from GSAs and Africa Twins. Just sitting on the T7 was enough to show the top heavy nature plus tall seating that didn’t work for my at 5’8”.

      890 A is an amazing bike. I probably have an upcoming test ride video about that bike too.
      I wonder if 890 would even be easier to lift than T7 considering the weight is down low and I love that the 890 doesn't necessarily need any crashbars due to that tank design.
      Weight of any adventurebike should be considered only after any of these 'necessary' add-ons are bolted in.

      @@PatchedBandit Mine is the non R 2022 bike and a great deal persuaded me after a test ride that I didn’t want to end! Very good low speed handling and for my town riding essential. Skinny unlike the BMW or Honda and so easy to put exactly where you want it. I haven’t needed to pick it up but I’m certain it’s no problem. Fuel economy is superb. The seat (better on the 2023 bike) is hard which is the only major issue for me. Fixable and not a deal breaker. It needs lower pegs and bar risers for me to get the GSA style riding triangle which was the perfect set up but all I miss from the GSA.

    When i got my Tenere WR 10 months and 10000 miles ago, my KTM dealership had a brand new KTM 890 R adv for sale for 1k less than the WR. I still went for the Tenere and i sleep much better at night. I actually just came back from a 5200km trip to Latvia and back and the big T was amazing. 0 issues, ate up anything i threw at it and put a smile on my face every single day of the 2 weeks i spent on every kind of road.
    So here is the thing, when buying an ADV bike for travelling, reliability (for me) should be right up there before anything else, as whatever specs you have on a given bike, they're useless if they are unreliable and leave you stranded somewhere far away. The Tenere could do that, but you'd have a much MUCH lower chance of a failure vs competition.
    KTM, BMW, Ducati and Aprilia have cracking bikes, if i was to buy a naked for my sunday rides, it'll defo be from them.

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  2 месяца назад

      I've never looked into the consumption very much on either bike but the info online is:
      Tenere 700 - 16-litre fuel tank gives 350km+ range
      Tuareg 660 - 18 L tank capacity is good for 350-400ks
      If I had to do a quessing game I would say the Tuareg with the 2L extra in the tank is gonna win the range test.

    Good review! It was bound to be good bike wasn’t it? The T7 isn’t perfect and one’s you start upgrading suspension etc the price will be on par with the Tuareg. I do think the T7 is more brutal looking, it’s just such a no nonsense bike, and it feels so bloody sturdy.
    The review has me interested enough to go and test one but I’m not likely to switch anytime soon.
    In Finland Aprilia isn’t massively popular and I expect low second hand pricing. Also seeing that they now start from 17k you are starting to get close to adventure R territory.

    The problem with that bike is the looks... And if compared with the T7... lol. But is a little more something than the T7 in every aspect, except the low rev band of the engine. And that could be important for the guys going in technical off road. Is much smoother power delivery, and from real low revs... Is not a thing of "3000rpms". Is coming from lower revs, put in throttle and the thing goes, and still, it has traction to go without any TC. That's something i really enjoy, and makes me put every of the Aprilia advantages in question over a T7. That and, again, the looks...

      Agree, I know looks are a personal thing but I can sit and stare at my T7 all day like it's an art work, just love the look as well as the feel when riding it, it just feels like a big version of my dirtbike. I'd probably park the Tuareg around the corner so I didn't have to look at it, it's like they've tried to be retro but just ended up with a bike that looks old ( again a personal opinion). I think the Tuareg is aimed more at the new ADV rider coming from road riding and the T7 more to the new ADV rider coming from dirtbikes, obviously both good bikes but very different.
