The Song, "Big Iron" and I, have had a tumultuous relationship over the past few years. It's been requested and requested and requested, so I made a short, but then the FULL version was requested and requested and requested. FINE. But what do you do with a song that has 8 verses and a 5 word chorus!? Well, I guess you do this. Hope you like it!

Special shout out to all of my patrons who make these videos possible.
"Big Iron" was originally recorded and released by Marty Robbins in 1959. In 2010 it was awarded the title of "11th best Country Western Song of All Time". That's a pretty weird award, but we'll take what we can get! Cheers ya'll!

I love how he puts his own twist on it yet still doing it properly
Thanks!
One thing I've noticed is how well Geoff is able to compose an already brilliant piece, and make it even more interesting in layers...and just as brilliant in its own right. I cringe when people try to emulate the already top of the game brilliantly done works... Geoff seems to know just how to shift it to where you feel unjipped, yet ... in awe at seeing the song in a new light. Not many have that gift.
What do you mean by "properly"....creativity would cease if Geoff had to be "Correct" would it not?
@@rondunn4336 perhaps "proper" is too simplistic, but really keeping to the sense of the story/lyrics, not revising to a modern sense. Sure, that revision to suit today's ideals would be creative, but doing so would also lose a sense of the story in its original spirit. Geoff has a great talent about his making it his own, and still capturing the essence of the original spirit, sometimes even better than what made the song/story popular in the first place.
@@GeoffCastellucci I just want to say that this song is so amazing. I cannot believe how good this song is. I love it so much the deep bass song of yours.❤
I love when Geoff goes into storyteller mode! He really gives it such feeling and has great delivery! And Daryl is back too
'Storyteller songs' are called ballads. :)
@@hollysheen6865 'OH SNAP!'
1000% YES!!!
Gotta love Daryl🤣🥰
Geoff. When I asked you to consider covering this one during the 16 Tons premiere, and you weren't familiar with it, I figured it was a long shot. But I kept bringing it up, ever hopeful.
THEN you did it! Albeit as a Short, but I was ever so thrilled. I didn't expect to ever get a full version, but a recent offhand comment about it living in your head gave me hope again. So, I resumed bringing it up, and now here we are.
Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. I absolutely love how this is fully recognizable as the song I love, as well as being a very Geoff-ified version with changes and flourishes that keep the ears fully engaged. You are absolutely amazing in your arrangement choices. I may not have the ability to put into words what it is that I find so durned pleasing about this version, but just know it makes my ear holes extremely happy.
I remain eternally grateful. 💕
Thanks Debs!!!
I was one of the people repeatedly begging for you to cover this song, so, thank you, thank you, thank you for giving in to peer (patron?) pressure. Thank you for taking on another arduous, repetitive story song, and for never being satisfied to *just* sing it beautifully. I still don’t know why, but something about your voice on this melody is just so comforting to me, like a blanket made of warm, resonant nostalgia.
And somehow you also managed what should have been impossible, adding lyrics and melody to this classic that not only fit flawlessly, they also fill me with the same sense of radiant familiarity. Seriously, this is beautiful, thank you so much.
@Aarlecchino - I agree!! And you have a beautiful way with words!!

ABSOLUTELY!!! I knew he would pull this one off
I have to take this version to see my mom today in nursing home. She loved your Ghost Riders in the Sky, and she will love this, too. Even tho she no longer communicates verbally, her smile will tell me everything. Thanks for that wonderful rendition, Geoff. ❤🥰
What a beautiful message. People like us know a lack of verbal communication still allows appreciation of things like this. Have a wonderful life Judy
@@joebedworth188 thank you. Same to you.🙂😊
You're a good daughter, Judy. Music can reach the heart and soul of each of us. I'm sure your mom will love this and reward you with a HUGE smile. Peace to you both.

I remember sending a link of his music to my dad to his messenger I don't know how much he may have watched. But yet at the same time when I hear Geoff and his voice it reminds me of my dad when I was young and he would sing to me to give comfort when in distress such as a nightmare. Plus he sang to on the night he was taking me to my senior ball as much escort so we could spend some time together and the fact I wasn't allowed to date yet. I hadn't turned 18 and even then it had to be with a chaperone. My parents trusted me they just didn't trust the boys. Since there were times when many wouldn't take no for an answer and would try to force themselves on me and I had to hurt them sterilizing some. When I mailed them between the legs with either my foot or my knee. Heck my uncle my dad's older middle brother taught me some self defense along with that of our local police when teaching self defence to the girls at my high school during our PE GYM class and it was a female officer and one of their best. Who has taken down many rapists and even being a crack shot when needed when they had no choice but to shoot to save lives. Plus I had even learned more from a gentleman to taught who taught Akita self-defense classes at my local community college as well as our local parks and recreation for which I learned from him too. But one thing is for sure if I had known about Geoff before my mother had passed 8 years ago I am sure my mother would have enjoyed listening to him. And my father passed February 1st this year in his sleep and I miss him. And depending on the song that Geoff is singing and the memory it may trigger for me sometime it would send me crying because All have is my memories of my parents singing to me especially my dad since they are close in range but yet different and I won't hear my dad again until the resurrection of the dead when it comes. And I miss him.
As I have commented on in the passed on video of his I have seen after losing my dad I wouldn't mind hearing sing songs he might sing to his little one. Whatever the circumstance.
3:44 *_The Harmony!_* 🫶😻 Can we just take a moment and admire the sense of rhythm and timing that allows him to do this over and over, backing himself up and never missing a beat?
I'm getting old. I remember listening to Marty Robbins sing this song on the radio. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this rendition. It brought a smile to this old man's face.
Never too many Geoffs, no matter how they spell their names.
Trust me. Once you get to 6, things start getting rough quickly.
@GeoffCastellucci you're planning something. Something dangerous one can imagine.

I have to say I love the way the separate Geoffs interact with each other. Gives it a more realistic feel, like there actually is 5 of them sitting there.
One of the most impressive things about this video is even though the video currently only has 5,000 views, it has almost 3,000 likes, meaning over half of the viewers liked it enough to show it. Just proves how Geoffs music is absolutely gold, especially this one. Absolutely love you Geoff!
There were 400 waiting with me in the premier, and well over 300 likes, but we are mainly the patreons and other loyalists who knew what we were getting into.
Hands down the best multi-track solo artist out there for a multitude of reasons. 1: Takes old songs, makes them new yet keeps them old. Do you know how difficult that is to do? 2: He actually outshines the group he sings with and that is no knock on Voice Play at all. 3: Crisp clear sound. 4: Chooses songs that are catchy. 5: He does this music on his own and that is impressive! 6: He finds the true classics from when songs had a good story and were catchy. 7: It really is all him, a lot of basses sound like a bass trying to sing high. He sounds like a different singer. Geoff and the 4 G's are awesome!
This has always been my point when someone tries to do a cover of an iconic song such as this one. If you are going to accomplish such a task, keep the original spirit of the song but still try to make it your own.
Two things Geoff is the best at (besides the voice!) are story telling songs and making a beautiful, complex and interesting arrangement of a repetitive and not very inventive tune. This is such a good example of that!
Thank you!
Yes! Exactly that!
Geoff covering storyteller songs is all what I need in my life ✨
I could listen to you all day. And listening and looking at you makes me weak in the knees. Makes this old woman happy.
This one, too. Hugs and many thanks to Kathy for sharing you with us. Please, give her a HUGE hug.
Agree!!
I'm forever blown away by Mr. Castellucci's range.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Geoff is an amazing storyteller.
I love how the pace picks up and the voices get higher in the exciting parts of the story, and then a hush falls and everything slows down during the more somber moments. And Geoff's facial expressions and body language, and the expressiveness of his voice, invite us in and get us invested in the characters. Plus, there's that cool video background to set the scene.
🤠 🩵
This was wonderful! I’m a southern boy living in China and listen to your songs almost everyday Geoff! You can sing anything extremely well, but I love it when you do the old country and western stuff the most! Thanks for sharing!
My dad had an 8-track of "Cowboy Country" that he played over and over again all through my early childhood. Rawhide, Ghost Riders, Big Bad John, Man of Constant Sorrow, 16 Tons, Big Iron... You keep dredging up all these wonderful memories of cross-country trips, listening to that 8-track over and over for 3000 miles of open roads, my parents riding up front while us kids sang in the back. Thank you for bringing a smile to this "old" 44-year-old's face. 😀
Haven't heard rawhide but all the songs he's done I've loved ❤ I'm 27. You should look up miracle of sound they're just as awesome.
Geoff has such a gentlemanly diction. There's a tact and precision to how he pronounces each word.
And now: the extended version of the gorgeous mini Big Iron. 🥰 Fabulous!
Somehow every time Geoff creates new bridge parts to songs, they always end up being my favorite parts of the songs.... Every time.
Same!
Watch out Texas Ranger there is a Florida Geoff on the loose!
Geoff your creativity is mind boggling! You turn every repetitive song into an adventurous experience! Bravo!
THANK YOU!
Absolutely love when you do country western tunes of the past (actually love all your covers). Keep the coming Geoff!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are so many songs from many different gendra that are better with a low BASS singer who has a range That Mr. Castellucci has. he can go from Russian Bass up a few octives
to bring new life to many older songs. It is a true pleasure to hear him resreuct some of the older countrty song that I have always loved.
This world needs as many Geоffs as possible!
When I got adopted by a new dad when I was 11, I was allowed to put records on the stereo and this was one of the amazing songs by Marty Robbins. Geoff, I am so glad you listened to Debs because you did a terrific job with this - took me back over 60 yrs. Thanks to one of the greatest vocalists out there. I found you when you did Monster Mash and I've been in wonder with you and VoicePlay. My treasure.
You have such a beautiful soul, Geoff. You pour so much of it into your creation, that you have an artwork in the end. You are so human and engaging, that it makes me sigh of relief for how close you are to your listeners.
Your attention to detail is so immersive, it takes me back in time, seeing when you couldn't settle for less, and kept pushing boundaries, and persevered, and repeated, and then some more. Are you even real?.. 🌝
Between the highs and the lows , even the Geoffquakes, my ears are in heaven. I am going to go out on a limb and say that any singer from the acapella world is not human. This lovely creature is a prime example of this. Five Geoffs---my heart can't take much more. Can't wait until the next tune.❤🔥❤🔥❤❤
I read a lot of comments, but not all of them, to be honest - I'm tired of translating. I realized that I knew very little about American singers and songs, and that I had only heard Geoff's songs performed by him. But that doesn't change how much I love his songs, his charming voice, and, of course, his appearance. Thank you so much, Geoff, for your talent, your work, and for being you. You are like a ray of light in the darkness. Greetings from Ukraine!❤
May you and all in Ukraine soon see an end to the darkness of war, and a return to light and peace. Music can uplift us in awful circumstances, so I'm glad you have access to it.
You “guys” are so blessed. Thank you for all the work you and your team put into this video.
There’s something about his vibrato in his mid range that is so soothing!!!🥰
he has a beautiful warmth and flexibility there. Frankly I also think it's his personality in part. When he sings (or speaks) you can just tell he is such a nice man. that's appealing.
@@joyfulyes TOTALLY🥰!
My husband’s grandfather was an AZ territorial ranger. I also suddenly realized I know where the town is that this song is talking about! 😳 I love, love, love your arrangement of this song. Simply awesome.
The Texas rangers are more famous, but people don't realize that the Arizona rangers had a much more difficult and dangerous task
Arizona was a haven for lawbreakers and the Arizona rangers had to bring in law with much less support
@@outinthesticks1035 That’s for sure! And when AZ was still a territory the Wild West was definitely wild. Hmmmmm, come to think of it, it’s still pretty darn wild out here. Anyone care to help us stamp out flames along the border?
Without knowing your style, would be hard to catch those parts you wrote... they fit perfectly.
Love this.
Thanks!
Came for the voice. Stayed for the voice. My Pap was a TX Ranger; found affection in the song. Well done.

I bet you could sing a bunch of bedtime songs, and every cranky baby would fall asleep. You have such a soothing voice.
cranky grownups too. He sure can soothe me!
Love it when Geoff's voice drops as fast as the hammer on that Big Iron!
I thought I loved Geoff enough, then he started making these RDR type covers and so now I'm just effin' smitten like a kitten in fluffy mittens 🤠
This was already a song with a good storyline, but Geoff really made the story come alive with the additional pieces, and somehow makes me giggle along the way from pure joy ❤
The added layers and additions really breathed life into this song... the imagery in my mind...anticipation...yep, pure...no words...begs for a mini-cinema enactment along with this song...but nothing could be better than the movie in my head.
Somewhere, Marty Robbins is smiling.

Still the best storyteller singer of Western songs EVER. I loved Marty Robbins.
IMO Marty Robbins is THE BEST Cowboy Balladeer...brilliant at story telling through song... So glad we have a Geoff Castellucci today to bring to life story telling through song today. Agreed, Marty Robbins is up there somewhere giving Geoff a grinnin' nod for this rendition of an amazing story.
This cover is in the top 10!
Great song and this style really suits you Geoff. The way you breathe new life into these old songs is fantastic and the elegance with which you recreate them is amazing.
With your exceptional vocal and a lot of work, you raise the songs to such a level that everyone can rediscover or reawaken old memories. It's as if you take it apart and then very carefully put all the melodies and sounds back together, thereby blending your own style into it. You can show the beauty of your voice and the range of several octaves in such a way that every part melts into harmony and preserves the originality of the song. You bring back a bit of the past, which begins to live again through you.
Please dust off the old songs for a long time, because this is very necessary so that they don't disappear into oblivion.
Thank you sincerely for another wonderful experience!
Thank you for the full length version. It was even better than I anticipated 😊 many are talented. Very few have the discipline to work at their craft until their skills are peak.
In my Spotify I have a play list, "proof that aliens exist, these people are not human"

So glad Geoff decided to do a full version of this song! While I'm not a big fan of country music, i really enjoy most Western music, and i consider this a prime example of that genre.
You've got to love Geoff's attention to detail! Keep your eyes on Geoff#1 at the beginning of the song. Not only does he turn to look at the singing Geoff in the middle, but he turns around to check out the images on the big screen behind them all!
Your music almost brings me to tears; I find myself listening to songs I would have thought I didn't like. Your tones, the control of your vocals, everything is so amazing. This is one of my husband's favorite songs, so I had to have him watch this video and he really enjoyed it.
This is so good. As a singer myself, i have nothing but respect for you. I hope to be as good as you one day

I really have to thank you for this beautiful song. Listening to your music have been one of very few joyfully moments I had in the last six months where studying for med school has been taking up nearly the entirety of my waking day. So the only brake I get is when I walk back home from lectures and listening to your beautiful voice makes those minutes really special. You always do such an amazing job with storytelling songs Geoff. The choruses and bridge you wrote for this blended so well it took me multiple listens to realize you snuck them in 😃. Updating dusty old songs is a strong suit of yours.
I can't tell you how many times I "had" to listen to this as a little girl. Daddy loved him some Marty Robbins and that record got played a lot. I would do the very loud little girl sigh and whine "no Daddy, not that again" when it would start. When I saw the short of this, I was o.k. I can deal with this, new twist, not bad. Then I saw the complete version and my first thought was "well, I'll watch it once, like and show some love and move on". After all, we can't like em all now can we? First time through, hmmmm, this is interesting, love the different tones and the reel playing in the back is fun and well now that story is pulling me in. Second time, hmmmmm, I think I might like this. Third time, yep, I like this. Would Daddy? Who knows but I think he might just smile a bit and tap his boot.
Geoff is such a legend
