3rd Performance - Home Free - "Ring Of Fire" By Johnny Cash - Sing Off - Series 4 (Group B)

- I think it's safe to say that this all male group will make it to the end..i actually think this was their best performance yet and they seem to have the audience and judges raving because of their pentatonix like performances..except a country version. Whether they win or not is another story because they also could be the next street corner symphony if another group rises to the occasion but something tells me they'll get at best, second if not first to win it all again as the guys do well on this type of competition...A
*Rewatches Tim's last note 1000 times*
4:48
*breaks replay button* 😂 🤣
2000 at least
{{¥}} Agree and tell you how many times I did the first time it happened. I'm using a cheap speaker from a handheld phone or I wouldn't have survived that last note. Had any kind of Woofer been involved, would have been over for me. ;}
And 10X more for me, it was a once in a lifetime event
There is nothing sexier than a deep base that reaches into your soul! Tim you rock & your Ring Of Fire is absolutely melting!
Your last name is Rupp?!
6:42 when you have perfect pitch and just have to remind everyone
I was thinking it was really impressive that she could tell what that note was. XD
It could very well be fine-tuned Relative Pitch. Given the fact that the note was so long, and It was the Tonic note, you could figure it out. If you know by heart any note, you can find any other.
Still can't pronounce octave correctly
Yeah I laughed at that lol. Though what some people do (what she might have done) was sung their lowest note really quick, known what it was of course, and just counted down from there. Or she could do have been told before hand. Or like you said she has perfect pitch.
She commented on a low note in "Life is a Highway" that she thought was an F# when it was actually an Eb. She might have relative pitch. But she was correct about the F# in this one.
Tim Foust's vocal bass drop and Adam Rupp's vocal reggae beat really gave me goosebumps. You guys really rock!!! LONG LIVE HOME FREE!!!
When Tim went all the up at "like a child", that was a display of his higher range. But when he sang "but the fire went wild" in his mid range, he totally sounded like an old, legendary country singer. I can't remember his name though, but dang that sounded so classically country!
I'm always happy when RUclips brings up this performance in my Recommendations - I know it by heart, but still enjoy it every time. For my money, this was the performance that cemented Home Free as the Season 4 favorite, with the contest being theirs to lose. Ben's comments were spot on: with this performance, Tim went from being a supporting singer to a virtuoso, letting the audience know that Home Free is more than just Austin and the Pips. The VP is perfect. You also knew this group was heading to the finals because of Ben's reaction - I don't think he got as excited about another performance all season.
I love this comment. It encapsulates everything.
I love the panel of judges here in Sing Off, they know their stuff very well.
Loved this rendition of one of my all time favorite artists! I think The Man in Black would have enjoyed it too!
Jewel's pronunciations of certain musical terms (octave, vibrato, etc.) may sound odd to folks with a different preference, but be assured she spoke correctly in every instance. (Consultation with any edition of a Merriam Webster unabridged dictionary resolves the matter in short order.) More importantly, the lovely lady can SING!
Dammit. I really don't like country but they are constantly making me forget that. I literally hooked up my piano to hit an F1#...yeah I can't do it...I feel untalented lol A
I played a double bass F# and It still felt like he was lower 0_0
xSCOOTERx2 i think he went lower. holy shit
iggyfan11 I am pretty sure he ht the Brown Note
SprinkelzRainbow close enough
iggyfan11 In "I Want Crazy" He hit his lowest note, a semi-tone lower then the low note here. F1
Their concert was one of the best, most fun I've ever been to.
That sound accompanying the last rattle cymbal sound was the rustle of fabric as hundreds of panties dropped when Tim dropped that monster of a low note.
This is so good!!
But, of course, we can't forget the studio version with Avi Kaplan!!!! ♡♡♡♡
Well dang, look where Homefree is now! Absolutely amazing!
God given talent!
I listened to this with and without headphones and I could hear the last note with them but I couldn't hear it through my speakers.
The ring...
Of *FIRRRREE*
that base though!!! wow!!!!!!!!
i like the low bass note at the end
"Holy F*** what was that?" Was the reaction everyone would have had
I think Jewel had a little crush on Tim(low note dude)!
Dang!!!!! They are hot!
I was torn between Filharmonics & Home Free. Either one deserved to win.
He blew the stage speakers at 4:46
Home free christmas
I'm watching again these old performance from Home Free, and I'm wondering if it's one of the reason that Chris left the band. From the start, they spoke about Rob, Adam, Austin, Tim, but no one mentioned him so far. Must have been pretty hard to be in a band and feel in the shadow inside, especially when you founded the band.
He did most of the arranging as well.
4:50
Of Fireeeee
Tim's eyebrows on the last note made the note even better
If this aint the truest damn comment Ive ever seen...
I love Home Free. They continue to suprise
That part
don't forget the hand to keep it down :P haha
Oh he KNOWS he’s good!!!
5:18 “People in Pasadena just called and reported a seismic event - that was ridiculous, man!” 😂😂😂
4:56 Tim's eyebrows just say: Do you like what you hear?
And the answer is...YES! 😜
Or do you like what feel, because you can't hear that without headphones or some shit.
Why are all the basses in this show so damn attractive. First Avi Kaplan, now Tim Foust. It isn't fair.
Tiara Benvenutti And look at Geoff from VoicePlay! Gorgeous too! Nick's right, the bass gets all the ladies.
And Geoff
Dont forget Reggie from Afro Blue he is the best bass in season 3 for me 😅
Geoff (Season 4)
Reggie (Season 3)
Jo (Season 3 and 4)
Robert (Season 3)
Good too but not in singing except Geoff and Robert and Jo
the secret is in the hair, long hair = better bass voice
Tim: goes low at the start
Everyone: damn
Tim: gets the center spot ready for the last note
Everyone: this man is about to end my whole career
Was so confused why everyone was cheering over a silent moment...turns out the note was too low to hear without headphones O_O
lol
best part though
I hate it when I'm showing these a cappella performances to my friends and the awesome bass is always drowned out!
omg ikr
Yes, you can enjoy the bass with good headphones. Ear buds and computer speaker don't do the bass justice.
Tim, what the actual _fuck_
There's bass singers, then there is, "this guy is not human!" bass singers
John Dunn we call People like that Tim XD
Or "singing refrigerator" 5:43
or Avi or Geoff
look up tim storms, hes the record holder for lowest vocal tone.
There's Bass Singers, then there's "Oh, You Sing Bass??" "Baby, I Am The Bass."
i love how they all look at the guy in the middel at the like "Hold on, shits about to go down" :D
Tim has such a country voice, and that bass, just DAMN.
the profile picture explains dat note
***** Yeah :D Totally my reaction when I first heard Tim sing!
*****
KaregoAt it's pronounced dat bass
TIM HAS GREAT BREATH CONTROL. THE AUDIENCE STARTED CLAPPING AND DROWNED OUT THE FACT THAT HE WAS HOLDING ON TO THAT NOTE TO FINISH THE SONG. IT SEEMS THAT THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT SETS THESE GUYS OFF FROM WHAT WOULD BE AN "ALSO RAN GROUP. I LOVE THE HARMONY HERE. THEY USE A LOT OF DIFFERENT INCIDENTAL CORDS TO GET A GREAT SOUND IF CONFLICT THAT ENDS IN RESOLUTION. THAT MY FRIENDS, IS A KILLER, THAT CANT BE BEAT. LOVE THIS 🎵 SONG BY YOU, JOHNNY WOULD BE PROUD!!!!!
i will never get tired of hearing Tim hit that note ( - 0 - 0 - )
Agreed! And the look on The judges faces was priceless!
ikr, yoooooooooooooooooo xD
I'm 15 and I can hit that note IM SO HAPPY AHHHH
excuse me ^ I just learned how to hit growl notes lmao
Better than what I can do! I'm a soprano so I can't hit anything lie without sounding horribly out of tune!
What is really heartening is the obvious camaraderie. No jealousy. Just great pride whenever one of the group is singled out
You know that you've won the contest when you can make the judge say a curse word!
Ben called pentatonixs beat section bitchin'
And then pentatonix won
So does Sara Bareilles to PTX. She said their performance was f***ing awesome. 😁
I'm always on Team Avi, still am... I can admit tho that note Tim hit almost made me shit my pants.
That's the brown note from south park.
BiggySn1p3r Haha That's exactly what came to mind!
BiggySn1p3r Listen to their newest video I'm good tim hits his lowest note yet
I agree XxShadowGTxX
droid8472 D1, and gravely 😍
Just noticed the look Austin and Rob share at 4:45. I wonder if that's part of the choreography, or if it's just those guys going, "They're going to *love* what's coming next."
Tim actually has a 5 Octave range which for a true Basso Profundo as He is, is literally Amazing and very rare. The whole group is above the what the normal top grade of talent is, very clever arrangements with loads of natural ability, Home Free is a tough act to come near much less beat.
This was the moment when they realized the way to the women's vote was through Tim's low F#. They get the best reactions when he goes full out bass cannon.
SuninSanDiego Evolution at work. Deep voice = nationwide panty drop.
@@proudtobeageek95 🤣🤣🤣 truth
@@proudtobeageek95 ain’t that the truth! 😂
I love how EVERY time Tim goes to hit a low note he puts his hand out like "hey I am just going to lay this out here." He does that in concert as well and it's pretty darn cool. Not only that......he is YUMMY!!!
alederhos I agree with every bit of this statement.
Methinks yer forgetting one thing. When he hits those rediculously low notes he puts on this face like yawn this is nothing and so boringly easy for me to do it. Which makes it way more awesome.
And he does an eyebrow raise as well! That man is amazing!!
Like it's about to go dowwwwwn. Hahahahahaaaaaaaa.
@@proudtobeageek95 I second that 😂
I'm a big fan of Avi and I thought he was the best bass out there. But though i hate to admit it, HOLY SHIT THAT'S A LOW NOTE.
its a half step below what avi can sing
smapson54 And it's not even the lowest note Tim can sing...
I think Tim and Avi stand together in a class by themselves. Both unbelievable bassists and incredible singers in general.
smapson54 Avi can actually sing the F#1, just not as well as this.
smapson54 He actually hit the F# at a live show!
Just revisiting some of these old Home Free & Pentatonix performances. I forgot about Tim singing in falsetto for a second. How can the man be such a sublime bass and still hit such a beautiful high note. His voice is INSANE. I still love me some Avi too but damn Tim what a voice 😍
I come back a couple times a year to watch those two groups. And I saw them both in concert years ago. The Sing Off was is the only singing competition show I could tolerate, because they didn’t throw in the stupid “people who can’t sing just because we want to make fun of them”. I miss this show so much, I hope these videos never go away because Pentatonix and Home Free make me so happy
Man when he hits that note I have to plug in my studio headphones just to hear it because my speakers can't go that low!
I didn't realize it .. until I tried it - you're right ...it's even more amazing with headphones
I have to keep replaying the part where the guys voice goes super deep like, WHAT??!!!!
Every single time I listen to THAT LOW note I have chills, shivers, goosebumps.... well, whatever :) all over my body (especially the back of my neck)!!! Seriously, It's unbelievable.
miksimpatikwhitney If your speakers/headphones can handle it, Tim's lowest recorded note (D1) can be found at about 2.36 and again at 2.46 of Home Free's "Honey, I'm Good." Hilarious video . . . . SERIOUSLY awesome performance.
miksimpatikwhitney If you EVER get the chance to see them in person, do it. That note literally rumbles through your chest like you're sitting next to the speaker, and I was in the upper balcony. It's flipping crazy, and an amazing experience.
+Cholla Ranch watch the bass battle between Geoff castaluchi and Tim foust. he can go a lot lower.
+Fiercer Chin On a side note, the a cappella arrangement for Home Free's 2015 update of "Elvira," featuring the actual Oak Ridge Boys (!), was made by Tim Foust, Geoff Castellucci and VoicePlay. So much BRILLIANCE!
Me too and I have watched tons of times!
Ring of Fire is a track on Home Free's new album but they redid it with Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix.
Really?! I need to hear that!!
Why did they use the other guy instead of Tim?
markvacc13 they didn't "use the other guy" instead of Tim, both Tim and Avi sang in this song.
markvacc13 they use both, and it’s unreal!
And he still does the end note
I love that last note made all 3 judges jump to their feet!
Tim seems so humble. Obviously there are very few people who could hit a note like that but he still seems genuinely flattered by their comments.
I really can't stop listen to this F#1!
That moment when you can sing to the big C and sing the whole bassline. And at the end you're going like "the riiing of Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"
These guys are just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. They are also so humble....they could go all the way! I love them and that Tim can sing or just speak to me all day every day!
Years later...2019... still the best rendition ever...THAT BASS!
I prefer the version with Avi
@@river2282 absolutely!
Only thing missing was those Mexican horns. -- yeah I know, buy, I bet one of them could done a horn sound.
When one of the Judges is going off about seemingly randomly things, you got this in the bag
Epicesify Yeah, when they start calling you a crazy refrigerator and wise tree and are totally trying to figure out words -- you can just drop the mic and exit.
I love revisiting PTX and HF when they were babies on this show. Their voices have matured beautifully since. And of course this song with Avi in the mix is incredible.
With Voiceplay mixed in as well. All amazing groups.
I've never seen Ben so animated. Absolutely brilliant.
I normally don't listen to anything but rock-n-roll, but, my brother asked me to listen and tell him what I thought of it.......I was blindsided, I couldn't speak for a moment....never thought I would ever hear an acapella group and love it...it's now part of my play list.
I can't listen to Home Free without moving. They are the most awesome band I've heard in a long time. My only regret is that I didn't find them sooner. All the best guys keep it coming
Truly delightful. I could listen for hours
Ben's descriptions of Tim this season were priceless! And reaction from Tim when Ben said it left people saying holy $#%@# what was that was epic! I believe that boy turned a bit red there
I mean, only a handful of people can even belt notes that low, and he held it, cleanly, for like 6 seconds. I know jewel says it's an F# but I think it's actually a G. Either way, he's got some crazy range.
Tim turned red when Sean commented about how he makes the bass look easy and even more red when Jewel commented on his dancing "I sing bass and I daaaaaaaaaance!"
When Tim sing "and it makes a fiery ring" ugghhhh DAT BASSS
Saw them live recently Tim made the entire amphitheater shake with how low his voice got. Just incredible
That rich bass vocalist! When he hit that (seemed lower)F note, I thought he was talking to the whales millions of miles away. Their harmonies were fantastic---the singers add their flavor, along with the instrumentalists. The bass singer's voice/singing voice is deeeeuuup and intimidating (inna good way).
SInging to the whales, OMG :DDDDD
Tim what f*ck was that!!!
Good Lawd, that low note was insane!
Austin and Tim get all the compliments and the others are pretty much ignored most of the time, lol. Its kind of sad though. Adam, especially, deserves more recognition.
4:46 - when the fellas on the right just look at each other like "this crowd is NOT ready..."
I played tims end note like 10 times and I still can't believe that shit
Luna it is truly an awesome note to hear sung, but it is also just as much fun to sing it trust me I know.
Like.. I Thought I had a Deep Voice, because I Can Manage the G♯1, that Tim hits in Misty Mountains Cold with Peter Hollens.. and Then Dude Comes and Goes Even Deeper...
I totally get you. Same here!!!
"Wise tree" I AM GROOT!
Did Tim blush? :-)
Wow! My farts don't even sound that low, haha
You can tell a group is going to get to the end/win when you search "sing off" on youtube and the first thing that comes up is "sing off ring of fire" followed by "sing off home free".
'Acapella Country Reggae' is a perfect way to describe this group
Damn, you can't even hear that last note without headphones. lol That is amazing! I want him.
Ben is my favorite. He gives the best feedback of any of them and no one in the audience has any idea what he's saying.
That low note gave me chills when I heard it live even after rewinding it 3 or 4 times.
I PEED WHEN I HEARED THAT NOTE HOLY SHIT TIM
You know you've done well when you can make one of the judges on a show swear on national TV in front of millions of people.
Tim, Avi...they have natural Bass voices. And Contra-bass. Like some men have contra-tenor voices....soprano range. And some women have stellar-high range--- coloratura. This gives Kick-amazing sound-to a song. It comes out and blows you away because you don't expect this earthquake, tidal wave, solar flare, blizzard, tornado. In this case, a wonderful thing.
The lead's voice is smooth like butter. I have the biggest goosebumps. I'm so glad they won.
judges raving because of their pentatonix like performances"""??????
I've listened to some of the Pentatonix, Home Free smokes them by a mile!
Home Free never did a song that could even touch Dog Days or Let's Get it On by PTX.
Um sweetie please sit down before you hurt yourself.. Avi's range is actually an F#1-B4 and can also blow speakers! Pentatonix is in their 20's while Home Free is in their late 30's early 40's and you can't compare Pentatonix with them because they are two completely different styles! Why not give credit where it is due? Tim and Avi are friends why make this a who's better crap? Grow up!
Jennifer Talbot What did you have for breakfast, a bowl of Carnation Instant Bitch? Look under published above and you will see they said the judges were raving over their pentatonix like performances and the fact is they smoke the crap out of them. Does their age difference matter to you? if it does matter, it shows those younger folks aren't as good, it is easy to hear. I did give credit where it was due, to Home Free.
1. The pentatonix are a totally different vibe. Homefree is a country vibe while ptx is a club, up beat funky vibe. And no they did not get smoked so check yo self bruh. The pentatonix are on a upper platform ✌️
markvacc13 Do you understand why it says "pentatonix like performance"? It is because when Pentatonix did Stuck Like Glue they threw in a reggae beat, just like Home Free did with Ring of Fire. They aren't comparing quality, they're comparing the style.
That being said, you can't really compare the two quality wise because they have to distinctly different styles. Pentatonix has a very modern-futuristic club style whereas Home Free is primarily country. In terms of their talent in their distinct styles, they are very evenly matched in terms of the quality of the music they put out.
This is the performance that made me fall in love with this group. Love it.
I am not really a country fan, but their voices and personalities reach out and grab you.
Check out Chris Stapleton if you haven't already. You might become a country fan.
Performance starts at 3:20
Spoiler alert...it's good.
Didn't think I'd like anyone messing with a Cash song & I was right. I didn't LIKE it, I LOVED it 👏👏👏
Always fantastic, but these guys are ever so humble. Don’t ever lose that element guys 💜you!
Hello Pamala. How are you doing?
There is nothing sexier than a HUMBLE man!💜🤗
Rob seems like an absolute sweetheart. That charismatic yet low key person that makes every group of people have a nice time when they're in it.
I know that low note was crazy amazing but that moment at about 4:20 always gets to me. It just makes me smile instantly.
I’m not a fan of Country & Western music, BUT THAT WAS BLOODY FANTASTIC!
Home Free is like the Pentatonix of season 4.
lol. Bens reaction to the bass was brilliant.
Tim looks like a cross between Josh Holloway and 'Sam' on Supernatural.. just to be fangirl shallow for a moment. Thnk u for the video and playlist.
SuperWahinetoa Exactly :D
+SuperWahinetoa more like Johnny Depp and Sam.
Toskala Amador That too! ;)
I never watched that show at all. I never knew it's how they got started I just heard them one day on you tube sing Mary did you know and said wow i love these guys and never pass up a song still learning so much I hope they never split up. Be like Oakridge boys do this forever and ever. Love them all.
Can Tim and Avi do a duet please...?
I just got a eargasm from the last note.
lordanati Same
i watched this performance like a hundred times, but every time i heard those low notes it still give me goosebump
much respect for people like Tim or Avi with that masive low notes
I hear 4:23 and then move on to 4:50 and my only thought is that there's no way it could be the same person. And it is. O.O Rob had it right. They set that thing on fire big time.
Tim and I used to sing in a church choir together. One night we were out at karaoke and Tim came by and rumbled a low note in my ear. It’s definitely like a seismic event.
I love the look that Austin and Rob share right before Tim hits that super low note. They've got that "Oh, yeah, they don't know what's about to hit them!" look. It's hilarious.
I love it when Tim sings the word "wild". It's so country sounding it's awesome!
lol, when Tim hit that low note at the end. the motion he did with his hand made me think of Avatar and was waiting for him to firebend. :P Now THAT would have been awesome!
MountainGirl7771 Zuko's long lost brother, perhaps?
He was panty bending (dropping) bro!
