- Mat and Harry very rarely agree, less so when it comes to the world of big American cruisers. Two of the big boys go head-to-head.

I've been riding Harley's for over 30 years and I have to agree with you about Harley treating their customers like they do
David Jones Black Widow in Port Charlotte Florida has the best customer service I’ve ever experienced at any retail establishment. They even let me charge my Zero for free.
David Jones Its Interesting how many Indian dealerships are shutting down if the dealer
If the dealer can’t survive that’s a real worry
@@MerrittW Indian dealers shutting down? There is more and more of them popping up. Indian is growing pretty fast. And the aftermarket is growing really fast. As to HD, well in the past year they have shut down over 50 dealers and more to come. HD dealers do treat their customers like sh*t. Some HD dealers have had lawsuits filed against them because they are doubling shipping cost for more profit, and they are charging insane price for dealer prep. When it is stated by HD that dealer prep is included in MSRP, yet HD dealers jack their prices up, while most Indian dealers are MSRP and very few HD dealers left that are MSRP. As to the baggers the Chieftain 116 Thunderstroke sounds way better than the M8 with most any exhaust, and out of the box or with stage 2 beats the M8 in power/TQ. As to the Challenger it crushes HD, it is a no contest. And looking at the new HD liquid cooled bikes. While the engine is nice, the 3 new bikes are loaded with plastic and not even close to the typical HD fit and finish. HD is in decline (no longer a made in America bike) while Indian (the original American motorcycle and the only one that can claim made in America) is coming back strong.
Road Glide has the "Shark Nose" Fairing, the Street Glide has the "Bat Wing"...Got it Mate ??
Exactly!!.. Chieftain vs. Streetglide..Roadglide vs. Challenger..apples to apples..😊
yeah man that was ridiculous
@J Bar Settle down scoter. It's not like they were reviewing your bike. Oh wait..
I own an Indian and a Harley. The Indian has had 1 malfunction in four years, and the Harley has had 5 malfunctions in six months. In addition, despite the longer operating history, Harley service techs. are clueless, and Harley HQ could care less about their customer's. What I'm saying is not news to anyone, it's just that I now have experienced it first hand.
What year is your Harley?
@@Wicked_RotF30 2021
Great review especially how these manufacturers treat customers like idiots with how much they charge 👍
Easy just vote with your wallet.
@@wyattchoia2473 yeah absolutely.. and just remind me how much does a Honda gold wing cost again.. or for that matter a fire blade or R1.. mm Makes both these bikes look like good value to me ..
Beemer and Ducati do the same. Besides, the golden age of heavy cruisers have gone. These brands go in a way that continually increase the displacements year after year when they release the next power train platform. Ungodly expensive and unnecessary bikes.
And yet they both seem to stay in business. Let's do an apples to apples review. I know it's confusing for you mates over the pond but do another review on competitive bikes.
@@BoZhaoengineering If they are unnecessary? Why are the import manufactures making the same bikes? Lol. Harley and Indian need to move to a Republican state for manufacturing and make all costly options. Optional. If you want more options? They should be a choice to keep cost down
Indian Chieftain Darkhorse vs HD Street Glide Special
Indian Challenger Darkhorse vs HD Road Glide Special.
You know it guys.
The Challenger vs Road Glide would be a blood bath. The Indian is a drag race space ship compared to the HD pile of crap.
As a Yank who owns a late model HD Street Glide (not reviewed here), that Indian Darkhorse is actually fashioned after my bike, not the Road Glide. Totally forgivable, as both your reviewed bikes are "baggers". The Road Glide's direct Indian competitor is the Challenger, just released this year, and I suspect you would have been blown away at Indian's new entry. Cheers!
Just bought a Challenger and after many Harleys, there is nothing in Harleys line up that even comes close to the Challenger. Maybe the Pan America, but not in the same league. The Challenger is the best bike I have ever owned and pretty much had everything Harley makes in the touring line but they have nothing on Indian. I heard guys saying once you goto Indian you wont miss Harley and they are right.
Can’t wait for you to get your hands on a new Indian Challenger. Like your reviews. Keep up the good work.
Poor comparison, 1 is a fork mount and the other is a frame mount
what about Chieftain vs Street Glide
Challenger vs Road Glide
I owned a 2017 Street Glide with the M-8 and now a 2020 Chieftain Dark Horse . Dark Horse eats the Street Glides lunch and will take its milk money . Test Rode a 2020 Road Glide and it won;t get out if its own way
@@mumbler5644 Just stop that nonsense, I own a 114 and my buddy the chieftain DH and he's not pulling away from me in the slightest, they're pretty even. The only difference is I'm lapping his ass with cool shit to put on my bike and he's just stuck wishing he had an aftermarket scene.
Great head 2 head episode, but it's unfair to compare Chieftain Vs. Road Glide. You should have brought the brand new Indian Challenger against HD RG!🔥🔥
The main competition for the chieftain is the street glide not the road glide
Great! Thank you for a simple good comparison.
Lots of the classic top gear vibes in the intro 😍
Man you look like Zappa.
Love your channel but you guys missed the mark with this one. The Indian you have here is 2 years old, the Harley is the shark nose and more like Indians new challenger, Harley street glide is more like the Indian chieftain...Indian had actually changed their front fairing and bags to look exactly like the Harley street glide on their newest chieftains. And re technology the 2020 Harley road glide has massive changes, hill hold, Corning abs and traction control, rain mode, Harley call their system RDS. But I appreciate in SA you may not have the most recent models and the pricing is certainly a lot different to where I am in Australia anyway. Thanks for the vid, you guys a great
The music is a little loud and sometimes it’s hard to hear the voices, but good video nonetheless
you do know it's 2020 not 2019 or are you showing us 1 year old content ????
Exactly, they should have brought the Challenger
A better comparison would be Challenger vs Roadglide or Chieftain Dark Horse vs Streetglide. Cheers
my thoughts exactly.
Can you explain why you compared the wrong bikes??
Have you guys reviewed 2022 Indian chief dark horse ?
I would like to see you two blokes with a third fella of character on top of a Honda cruiser/bagger. Not the Goldwing. I would appreciate the opinions. I’ll back the Honda. I enjoyed the review, you work well together. Thank you.
You quoted prices of 400 grand. Seriously, 400,000 pounds! Ok, so the last time I owned a bike - Ducati Darmah - the fall of the Berlin Wall was big news, but still, that is roughly $800,000 (or so). Can't you get some serious Italian sports cars for that? No I never owned a cage but still...
i love your honesty ! both bikes are ripoffs. And it amaze how poor the horspower is on both bikes. Motorcycles are not made for towing .... So why not at least give them 120-150 horsepower and 9k rpm for good touring and overtaking . Keep up the good reviews !
Batwing fairing on a road glide ?
Maybe they dont have sharks in England...
Thanks for an honest opinion that I feel is spot on.
Wow, how awesome to see some straight-up views on these bikes and their ridiculous price! Good video
I also think riders are keeping their bikes rather than "trading up". My 2011 dyna street bob is upgraded with the 110 making 106hp/122tq, no reason for me to get rid of it imo. Hence the poor sales.
Always wanted a harley until all my friends got them and had non stop issues so I kept with my 750 honda shadow, which has 0 issues but Indians are on the rise and I can see why. You get alot more for your money and I feel at home when I visit my local dealer whereas my local harley won't acknowledge you to say hi and they've done the same with they're on HOG rider group. Not the same everywhere but still doesn't help.
any chance there could be a shootout on more 'naked' baggers i.e. big cruisers with bags but without the infotainment-stacked fairing? it's a very niche thing but a comparison with the Road King Special and the classic or Dark Horse Springfield would be a grand clash of niche titans!
Hmm, I don’t think I’ve seen a Chieftain with the new fairing and old style hard bags.. 🤔
It appears that the Road Glide front tire is mounted backwards.
Honest review, loved it 👏🏽.
When Indian puts that water cooled Challenger motor in the Chieftain especially with that monoshock rear suspension and electric windshield it will get my vote. However check out the water cooled new motor in the new Harley Pan America which could end up in their baggers. Let the motor wars begin...LOL
You should update your review with Indian Challeger vs HD roadglide. This comparison is old.
Apples and Oranges. The Indian Chieftan is the competitor to the Street Glide, the Indian Challenger is the winner over the Road Glide.
Ok bois. You brought atleast a 2016 or below chieftain 2nd the new indian chieftains have electronic saddle bags as far as i know the road glide doesnt..correct me if im wrong..3rd your comparing basically a street glide to a road glide.. the Chieftains are without a doubt better than the newer street glides and can ALMOST put competition with the Road Glide. in my opinion there almost the same level to each other but i think overall the Road Glide rules. i can go on and on but it would be to long of a comment. Re-do the versus the proper way
The real deal is getting out and Riding... Building something... It's another level... Anybody can buy something making art with your hands it's a lost art Hopefully the young kids continue this.... It's more than a art it's a way of life
Did he really say that the Harley has a batwing fairing?
Sold my Road glide and got Indian challenger, sorry Harley im a fan but no comparison between the two, Can't be more happy with my decision 😁
Road Glide had on dyno some 76HP on rear wheel :o) - source: Cycle world..
Cycleworld has a bad lazy dyno.
Properly calibrated Dyno like what FuelMoto USA has rates the M8 107 on the roadglide at 81HP 98.5TQ, and the TS111 Chief at 74HP, 100TQ.
Same Dyno.
you guys are just the very best of motorcycle reviewers!
Great criticism…. Handing both corporations their arses on a platter
I like the new chieftain dark horse and the new street glide special.
Road Glide isn’t difficult to ride at low speed unless you have limited experience. Nothing like offering information that’s not correct
ahahah HD buyers are dying. That was funny.
Amen
He's exaggerating a tad. Their average customer age has been going up for some time though and it's currently at 51. It's a bad sign for the company when your average customer is approaching the age when the majority stop riding. Hence their new models aimed at a different (and younger) customer. Still... it's not like there's no hope. BMW used to be a brand known for over priced, over weight bikes for old fuddy duddies, and they managed to turn that around within a decade.
Joric78 stop riding at 51?, yeah that’s bullshit mate 😂
I’ve always thought Yankee bikes too pricey.
And rubbish. Nothing beats the Japanese; value for money plus reliability as a bonus ! !
It's like iPhones, too expensive and too limited.
Nothings too pricey if you can afford it.
@@splodge5714 You don't understand what pricey means. It has nothing to do with the money you have. If you buy a cup of coffee for €100,00 most still can afford it. But it is pricey. It's all about value for money.
@@splodge5714 If it good and worthwhile; I agree, when it is rubbish I disagree. With these two it is the latter in my book I'm afraid
Harley treats their Owners like Mushrooms, always in the dark, and feed them shit.
good little mushrooms go back and buy $30 HD t-shirts too!!
wny the loud music in the back ground so you can'r hear what you are saying?
When I go into a Indian dealer it's always empty. I'm often the only customer in there. It's a bad sign if you ask me. Lots of marketing but I see little result. I rarely see anyone riding them either. It all seems really familiar, like it's happened before
May want to correct the title of the video. The Harley-Davidson is not an Electra Glide Special, that is a Road Glide Special.
Finally a decent review without the "my bike is better than your bike" Top Gear style bs.
I think the comparable Harley would be a street glide not a road glide. Although they’re the same bike the road glide has a fixed fairing
Would be cool if you got the name of the Harley right . . .
Indian is already appealing to the younger generation. That Scout Bobber looks sick AF!
My 25 year old son just bought the anniversary edition scout. Beauty of a machine!
I have chieftain dark horse and my misses has the scout icon, both beautiful machines, mine handles like a dream and has a shit load of power, the scout is probably quicker haha
That video is a year old. The challenger probably wasn't made yet.
At 9:10 my answer to the question is you are paying the initial price just to get into the Platfrom.
The chieftains opposite is the street glide the road glide is the challenger this is 2020
I will say, the road king next to this old version chieftain does look more modern and less of a "grandpa bike" in comparison. But the new version cheiftains put the road glide, and more appropriately the street glide, in the back as far as looks go in my opinion.
I hate to fact check you guys but the chieftains competition is the street glide not the road glide the street glide and the chieftain are both fork mounted fairings while the road glides competition is the Indian challenger which came out in 2020 with the challenger and road glide being both frame mounted fairings you might not change your choice on which is better but try comparing them to there actual competition that way it's a fair match
Hahahaaa Value for money if paying by the pound!
I own a Road King, yes it was too expensive and so is the Indian, it’s kind of rude. I’ve also ridden the equivalent Indian, I bought my Harley two years before Indian came out, I truly, truly wish I had waited. My Harley put out 74.9hp stock, they told me that was good numbers !!! It wasn’t, $7,000 AUD later it’s much better but not as great as a Triumph R3.
In summing up, I agree, it’s way too much money for a bike full stop, it’s even worse when you realise all of the mods needed to make it do what it should, at least the Indian rides and handles well.
My advice, buy a 2020 Rocket 3 and put some bags on it, nothing else needs doing and it goes so bloomin’ well.
That indeed is a 2019 HD but is that even a 2019 Darkhorse? with mods. There were big changes to the Chieftain in 2019. Looking further into it you simply can't take these two fools serious when they repeatedly call the SHARK NOSE and bat wing! two totally different bikes, and speaking of which THEY'RE two totally different bikes! frame mounted vs steering mounted, why are you putting them head to head?
You needed to compare this to the Street Glide, not the Road Glide.
You misspoke thr road glide has shark nose fairing not the bat wing as said.
The dude keeps referring the Road Glide has a bat wing fairing lol...
I don't think there's anyone that can say The Chieftains fairing looks better than the Street Glides. The way it's laid out with all the lights everywhere just makes it look sloppy
Yes I agree, Harley is doomed if they keep thinking of us as a bunch of idiots! I have owned many American baggers and I say this, next time I look for a bike the BMW K1600 will be at the top of my list.
Turn down the music! Let’s hear the bikes!
The chieftain was designed to take on the streetglide not the road glide.
The only trouble I have is that the Cruiser market keeps trying to compete with the sports market. Just keep to Cruising guy's. and I seriously reject the term Sissy Bar! I only enjoy riding if I'm up front and in control, therefore i want at least a back rest to feel comfortable on a bike if i'm a passenger
Definition of a sissy 😄
Nah the sissy bar is great for passengers. isn't it wonderful we can share our motorcycle hobby with a lady now and again?
I own Chieftain'18 Steel gray and yes you are right they cheapened the bike. Floorboards, grips, no engine guards, no passenger seat,pads... Just no attention to a details, for $18k you will expect all of this features standard since you are buying bagger - cruiser. It's a great bike,but...
I think the majority of people who buy these bikes don't cross shop anything. They buy for image and the rights to wear the t shirts. The Harley riders I personally know don't really like talking about bikes, or reading or watching videos like this. They are fairly unaware of other makes and models.
AMEN @12:12 !!!! I've wondered this for years! If I'm paying $30k+ (usd), why the flip should I need to spend ANOTHER couple grand just to.........
....adjust the seat?
This is not setup to be an apples to apples comparison
Ah hem, excuse me. That's not a batwing fairing. It's a sharknose and it's fixed to the frame.
I really like Indians and HD's, but bottom line is the Road Glide stands alone...period!
that's road glide...isn't it?
Can you do a follow up video featuring the Japanese cruisers that would compete with these two? It would be interesting to compare the "bang-for-buck" factor among them.
They can't, actually. The Suzuki VZR-1800 is the only one still being imported into South Africa. I had one. Half the price, insane power, handles like a pregnant hippopotamus.
Being a Yank ( as you call us ) I have owned both an Indian Chieftain and a H-D a Street glide I did prefer the Indian just a bit over the Harley. Both are great motorcycles who's sound can not be equaled by any other manufacturer. But there's more to riding than exhaust sounds and good paint. So I explored other Bagger ( cruisers ) and with much research I got the BMW 1600 K BAGGER. I understand the VLOG is about American V-twins, and it's very interesting. I just wanted to share my opinion.
Sounds like you prioritised performance and functionality over a certain "traditional" aesthetic. The Bike Show guys would probably agree with your decision, but I'm not sure the majority of your countrymen would.
Ended up in the Bike Life on the saddle of a Indian. Harley "The added Harley Pinstripe is 3500 dollars lol
I’d go the Indian. But if someone gave me a road glide I’d still be super happy 😂
But not as happy as you’d be on the Indian.
@@fbee6844 either way it’s a win bruz
Walk into any non Harley dealership in the US and you will won't find that many motorcycles if any. It's all off-road vehicles and they ain't cheap at all. The trend is changing. It may swing back to motorcycles but I doubt it from talking to the salesman.
Where is the Moto Guzzi California?
At the shop working out the gremlins
@@AlbionSupreme hahaha I thought those were reliable...
Did he just say $400,000?
Ya'll got two different boots on the feet Cowboys... well... the comparison here is a bit wrong... it should be HD Street Glide vs Indian Chieftain (for handlebar mounted fairing) and HD Road Glide vs Indian Challenger (for frame mounted fairing)... now on that note, the Challenger got the new watercooled engine... they are expensive alright... again before I am getting accused of being a blue-eyed Harley or Indian jockey... I ride a Wing... which is as spendy...
Strange to see all the Harleys at the Sturgis bike rally, claiming it as their own, when it originated from Indian riders...
Hi there
There are TWO Ds in daviDson
.
Harley starts to feel like a hipster bike now. Indians like that girl you grew up with and you never noticed how hot she was. She’s always been there. Lol
Harley all day for me❤
They aren't cruisers, they are touring bikes!
Nice review but on looks alone its the Harley. Then theres the name. Only one winner....No.1 😎
Good vid but the music is way too loud becomes annoying after a short while.
Yes if you are doing Route 66 you want the proper machine but they don’t perform well or ride well.... the there’s the price...
I concur with earlier comments. Comparison was poorly done starting with fairings.
funny!
I would not own either...I have a Goldwing....
The road glide competition is the challenger not the chieftain get it right goof
I don’t get the age group thing. Yea older folks are dying off that rode Harley’s...but young folks are also getting OLDER. Nobody stays young forever. When I was 19 back in 2003 I was only guy my age with a Harley. Now in 2020 all my friends are late 30s in age and guess what they are all buying 😂. There is always going to be people 35 and up ready for a comfortable Bagger to ride
Leading the world with a new technology? 1:30 They are kidding right?
They are talking about the Harley Live Wire. First mainstream manufacturer with an electric bike.
@@Joric78Harley was never leading the world with new technology. They never will.
The production cost of goods in America was high before “Trumpy”. Try again.
European journalist look at bikes very different than here in the US and I am assuming it’s because roads are a bit tighter than here.
I’ve owned European bikes, Japanese bikes, as well as a Harley. They all have their pros and cons. Harley is a slow cruiser bagger that is about sound, mechanical feel, and looks. It is porn on wheels and no my Ducati won’t even come close to its metal and paint quality. Harley is a brand and its culture happens to come with customizing it to your liking. Either way most people get a bunch of stuff and add/replace it so who cares about grips being cheap. It’s like a buying a Jeep Wrangler and lifting it, putting big wheels on it, etc. Don’t people get a Ducati and still add Rizoma? Don’t people get a Panigale for $30K and still add a $5k Akrapovic exhaust to it? You get my point
Hmmm
