the drum groove in the second half seems like the exact same drum vibe to me from Hot for teacher ... I was going to note it but I was hoping others would discover as you did... yeah! its absolutely live and 2 years prior or so... cheers you have a good ear there :)
Wow . EDWARD really threw everything including the kitchen sink into THIS one didn't he ? ....For the uninitiated the picture on the thumbnail & at the end is the filming of the James Bond movie THUNDERBALL in 1965 where Connery takes off from a building & lands with a Jet pack but instead of the jet pack taking off we've got DLR .....lol (Paul)
In 1982 I remember listening to Diver Down from back to back. Listening to it again just to make sure it completely sucks. I then proceeded to take it with me in my car and as I was going probably 60 mph , I tossed it like a frisbee. I know some people love this album. To me ? Unlistenable. Think of this. VH did a cover of a Roy Orbison tune. Wtf ? This was Ed’s least favorite album too. 4 covers on it.
Yeah this one is interesting, for me there are aspects of Diver Down I absolutely dig and then there are strange agents as well... Also was the first record with some dents in it...Everything till this was so pristine to their thing IMO...
Still like it better than any of the weak Hagar crap. I'd rather listen to Hang 'Em High, The Full Bug, Little Guitars, and Cathedral than.... "🎶 I can't stop loving you🎶" 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮👥️🧚♀️👨🏿❤️👨🏼
Right on! Van Halen were known to play a little faster LIVE than on the Albums in the earlier days as they did not play to a click track back then... Nowadays most all the bands play to a click track live... keeping the speed at original record velocity. Nothing from the stems of the show we received were altered in any way having to do with tempo in our work.... We remixed and clarified the mix is about it...
@@pkelly3463 I wouldn’t think Jim Dandy could have done the DLR stuff actually. He wouldn’t just have torn his trousers, he’d have eviscerated his CROTACKLES 😖😖 (Paul)
@@walterevans2118lmfao! Agreed…there is but only one DLR to exist. What a front man! To think he was still doing jumps 10 years at least after starting. Love this band!
You talk about DLR copping Jim Dandy's look??? What about Jim Dandy(B.O.A.) copping "Jim Dandy to the Rescue"???? That's not their song! and obviously NOT HIS NAME!.... Pffft.
Alex is killing that kit! What a great tune
I agree with ya !! hes a monster
So many elements and hints to Hot For Teacher in the making in this one!

This is awesome! What a time to see the Mighty! My lord! Thank you Phaige!
Great band
They could really rip it up back in their prime! One of VH’s harder rockin’ tunes.
you said that right :)
ALWAYS LOVED THIS FUCKIN SONG!!!! THE OF DIVER DOWN😅

Yes , you nailed it :)
There is a small intro of the tail end of Mikes Bass solo to set the stage...
These were the days of course when MIKEY used to JUMP ON his Bass during the solo (Paul)
I liked that!
Wow! This is “Hang'em high in a hurry!”😅
when I saw them live in 84 they played fast... maybe 5 or 10 BPM over the record... its energetic for sure
@phaigemartin
Yeah, That's true. Energetic.
I wish they would have played this at US festival.
The way it's supposed to be played. UPtempo. With Dave making an effort to concentrate on the lyrics..... just a wee bit. 🤏
Listen to how little gain he uses here, just a great picking and a good left hand. So many people trying to play VH now with too much gain.
excellent point :)

The tour that wasn't supposed to be.....
Sounds like the recording was sped up. Doesn't sound normal.

@@Kinger1625 Yes. I saw him leap like that in 1979 in Finsbury Park London on the VH 2 tour of the UK ...I was only 16 (Paul)
I saw WACF tour, Dave jumped off the drum riser doing the splits to start tge show.
