Dave and the brothers always had this intense love for the music...They clashed in the studio hardcore and what came out of it were 6 of the best albums...Feel honored and fortunate to have grown up with them and their music
Mikey didn’t bring anything to the table. He should’ve never been paid the same as the other three on top of that Eddie played a lot of bass players parts on the albums.
In the early days before they were ever famous Michael Anthony did his share in the band. He would help set the stage up tear it down ect. He put just as much work into it as everybody else, before greed set in later on in their careers they split everything four ways🤷
yes and he did play bass on some of the songs and I would say that he told Michael Anthony what he was hearing and how to play the bass on probably all of the songs he was making the music, but it took all the four of them to make the band.
Roth doesn't use the name "Eddie". Edward or Ed, just like Alex does. You won't hear either of them calling the King "Eddie". Roth is VH family, he loved mom and dad, and the brothers.
Dave LOVED Eddie & Alex’s dad, Jan, who was a good musician in his own right. I heard it was Dave who pushed for Jan to play on the ‘Diver Down’ album.

Well I recall listening to Al & Dave on two different interviews with Rocklines Bob Coburn out of Los Angeles one in 80, the other in 81 and Al certainly didn't quite talk as much as Dave but he still spoke frequently but much more brief statements whereas Dave was in rare form jaha
It's sad piecing together what happened back then only after Edward died . One of the reasons Dave quit is because he didn't feel appreciated by others like from the brothers . And he overheard other people calling him weird behind his back , ain't that right Mikey ? Dave was a way better front man than Sam as well as a better songwriter .
I’ll tell you one there’s a lot of bickering over the years through the front men - I questioned everything. I don’t question this one at all Alex Van Halen is telling the truth.
al and ed are silver-tongued demons when it comes to telling the truth about things.....i remember al and ed saying they were trying to replace dave back when they were recording the first album and get sammy in the band as their singer then....a guy they won't even acknowledge exists now and that dave was a mediocre front man that they were somehow stuck with for years of drudgery while dave ordered them around like a task master. al is FULL OF IT.....deranged and mentally ill. sad.
I get the revisionist history from the brothers about Dave, Sam, Michael, etc. It wasn’t the band that wanted Dave out of the band. It was the record company because Dave couldn’t really sing. He hired a well known vocal coach and got his chops up to a point where they kept him in the band and recorded VH1.
@@jmm1817you're right on that first album! And I agree with you on both versions of Van Halen lot of good music between the two of them and all of the above.

The (4) of them together dude
Yes, not Van Halen without Anthony’s backing vocals. That made the parade of lead singers less impactful
💯

The early DLR Eddie version will always be the best.
Half way through, Brothers. It's a great read and a must for true Van Halen fans!
Can’t even imagine my life from 1978 without them !!!!Thank you you Mike ,Al,Dave,Sam.I still can’t believe it’s over
They were alright but a bit overrated.
@ who was better?
@@ChrisYerardi-kt8nx Judas Priest baby! Stained Class!
DLR also probably loves that the book contains no mention of Sammy Hagar, lol
I think we all do, don't we?
why would they...Like Alex said he doesn't measure up

Chapter 1 of the book, Alex states he never called him "Eddie". Alex referred to him as ED. #Buy the book you'll see. Chapter1
The three of them together is what made it. DLR/Eddie songs will be forever loved and listened to.

What did Alex do? What was his contribution other than laying down a beat? Mikey had some of the best background vocals?
No Michael Anthony backing vocals, no classic Van Halen sound@@tambor76

Thanks for this because that “quote” didn’t ring to me as something DLR would say.
I finished the book. Was surprised to see how Alex really did hold a lot of the fort down. He always just chilled during interviews back in the day

What for? He is just using ( again) Van Halens as a trampolin for himself!
A good read, the early Van Halen will always be my favorite.
AVH was always the rock. Great dude.
Wheres the proof of Dave saying it so we just dont hear your version 😁

Alex Van Halens original title for his book - "Sammy Who?"

Dave was a better front man. Sammy was a better singer. Big difference between a front man and a singer!

Nepotism means "not you". Sad. The music goes on but the story is over.
They really should have done this with his voice or made a video instead of a generic narrator.

Enough of the antiquated VH stories. We all know the plot.
