Van Halen ~ Angel Eyes ~ 1975 ~ Crisp new Remix
HISTORY: Van Halen ~ Angel Eyes
STUDIO: Cherokee Demos, May, 1975 (The Demography 1974-84)
A beautiful acoustic track from very early Van Halen... Worked to
bring Daves vocal performance forward a bit and maintain a sound reminiscent of the era , also getting some nice analog air into the mix was a goal.
Of note is the hauntingly gorgeous acoustic track that Ed played is actually a multi tracked acoustic.. counter melodies playing in each ear. Also a touch of some "lo fi" containment just to bring the thing into a cushioned frame... enjoy!
AS always ... made by a fan for fans...always to freely enjoy, share and
used to show how cool Van Halen always were...

Wow! This is really nice. As the song ends I can envision the whole band coming in for the "heavy" final half. Great work and many thanks for your efforts.
Your kind comment is much appreciated :) I can totally see that also :)
These r cool
Vh have some amazing unreleased stuff. Remaster . Remix it . Boxset
Nice! Thank you for posting. So gorgeous!... Dave KEEP UP. I'm gumming the guitar, and not just the solo. Catch up, please. You are diminishing the intended affect. Just sayin...
My pleasure :)
Beautiful song Some of Dave's best singing ever recorded. Very zeppelinish song they said they didn't release it because was too mellow and didn't suit their earlier albums I think they should have a great song!!!!!!!!!
Great comment :) I would never touch the track Alex released called "Unfinished" from a mixing mashup perspective...as Alex mentioned needing someone to sing it that would complete it properly, I thought of this song Immediately... this vocal and lyric would be the perfect tribute.... simply change the focus of the Angel eyes to being Eds (implied)... Not sure Roth could sing it that way today tho... even if he really buckled down.... in fact if the 3 VH singers from each era took a verse it might even be the epic tribute... but we can only imagine...
There are real demos with Cornell @5150 . Would love to hear them .. This isn't bad though ... Let's get Rockin'
Nah, it's too fast.
thats just how they played it back in the day when they were live sometimes...
I love the old VH songs ❤Cannot tell you how many times I’d be drawing the VH logo all my notes in school 😊
Who would ever think about tripping on acid to a VH song until today 😂
Van Halen ended when DLR left.
SHUT UP FROTH…Yer BIG MOUTh Las Vegas cake FIGURINE…You ‘re just oceans of DRIVEL getting in the way of Edward’s brilliant music…(Paul)
Don't screw with VHs MUSIC like this ! (Paul)
Just STOP THIS !!! (Paul)
AWFUL and FOOLISH ....& considering this was written by ED for a friend who committed suicide TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE.... Roth's lyrics here - 'So repellent' ? That's a description of this Video edited project (Paul)
"Appreciate your comment and opinion as we also respectfully disagree" ...
@ But Edward Van Halen wrote the song about a friend he remembered who committed suicide. (Paul)
Correct... here is some context about the history of the song.... ************** The song was actually not even written during the ‘Balance’ sessions. Its origins date back to 1983, when Eddie demoed the track on his own, titling it “David’s Tune” for a friend who had sadly taken his own life. Eddie played all the instruments, including drums and bass (sound familiar Wolfgang Van Halen fans?) while adding his own lyrics. According to Michael Christopher’s Ultimate Classic Rock article, when Sammy Hagar joined the band in 1985, he was interested in recording the song. But Eddie wasn’t. Perhaps it was too personal. Whatever the reason or reasons, the track sat on the shelf of Eddie’s 5150 vaults for another decade. Flash forward to 1994. A year prior to recording the ‘Balance’ album, Van Halen’s manager, Ed Leffler, died of cancer. The band was devastated. Once again Hagar wanted to use Eddie’s song, eager to convey his thoughts regarding what happens when a person dies and “crosses over” to the other side. According to Uncle Joe’s Record Guide, Eddie decided it was time to let his bandmate use the music. Soon after it became a new Van Halen song titled “Crossing Over.” **************** The original that Ed wrote does not exist anymore... UNLESS we could take JUST Sam out and restore it to EDS original tribute to his friend with Eds original vocals as he originally presented it... would that be OK ?
@@phaigemartin Well, thanks for the detailed history...Yes, that WOULD be a wonderful thing to do...If we could find Ed's original Lyrics....That would be respectful & moving....But I just don't think if ED were still alive he would want to hear Roth doing all this macho 'street talk' sctick over his song... Remember how in his new book ALEX said how sensitive his Brother was ? & there are people like Alex & Wolfgang who might feel its just not respectful to Edward's legacy. Or respectful to Ed Leffner , or Ed's original friend. 😔 (Paul)
@@walterevans2118 What’s interesting about the track (the one with Sam) is what you can hear upon close listen. Put on a pair of ear buds and turn the track up and you can hear Eddie’s original track from 1983 with all of his instrumentation and vocals; all in the left channel only. Added was Alex Van Halen’s massive drumming along with Hagar’s powerful vocals, both panned across the music in stereo. The results are astounding. I would have to assume the band felt the same but, if so, why was it left off of the ‘Balance’ album? We may never know.... This channel is simply like the equivalent to/of the mix tape from the 80s.... we are mashing things together for FUN and by request in many cases, We feel the originals are still classics... still out there to enjoy... etc...We also love all forms of Van Halen, Even the Gary era... if its not for you...we can respect that and invite you move along to a channel you more enjoy :) Cheers
Those were the days
right on :)
Im not tardy. I brought my pencil ✏️
My memory of this show was that it was L-O-U-D!!!
Gotcha
I actually attended this "event" at The Centrum in Worcester, Mass.. I've still got my ticket stub. Have to admit, the sound quality on this recording was better than the live sound at the show. It was, without a doubt, the LOUDEST concert I was ever at, and I've been to about 500 since 1975. Started with Aerosmith and did everything from P-Funk to ManOWar to Grateful Dead, The WHO, The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top, and VH out volumed them all. My ears were ringing for three days, and I couldn't sleep for two of them. This show was the third of a three night stand, and was a "petition" show, local radio station WAAF 107 FM sponsored it, most hyped crowd I was ever in.
Thanks for the recollection... they were loud as heck when I saw them in 84 in NY as well...Exactly as you said!... IF I can get more from that show I will work on them... Did ya also remember how they played at a more intense tempo when ya were there ? I have been accused of speeding these up :) lol They did when I saw them .. Hot for teacher was played at like 15 BPM speedier then the record... I kinda liked that when I was there... but when I saw them with Sammy some years later they were more close to the tempo of the records.... Yes the crowd noise alone was challenging to wrestle with here as well as the bouncing around sound from the event etc...
@@phaigemartin It was so loud sometimes you couldn't even tell what song they were playing. DLR just stood at the front of the stage and the crowd went nuts. The best part was Eddie's big Guitar solo, "Eruption", he got cupped by the mobile lighting rig and bathed in green light, eerie but very cool. There was a big back drop that looked like piled up speakers, and it went up about 30-40 feet above the stage. And of course they played faster, they wanted to get off the stage and hook up with the girls backstage. LOL.
@@bobschenkel7921 excellent recollection of the details, when I saw them with Dave 84 we also struggled to discern what song was playing until we could adjust to it a bit... yeah wooo
youve been busy! sounds cool, imo theyre getting better & better. real good - keep it up - who knows who may hear them?? imo, they looked at this & your Red Line song as totally diff songs. yea, few same parts but I think Ed may have done that a lot in early days - put a part he really liked in few songs when working them out with Al. see which way they liked it more. these were leaked earlier this year & I've heard 3 or 4 diff versions of each so far - someone just posted diff versions at the Desk today. they're all from WACF rehearsals. when it was leaked the song was named Act Like It Hurts which is what Ed wanted to originally call Tora Tora
Gotcha... yeah they are alternate versions... I was told when I was given the files they were not done near the same time... but that may not be true either... I liked the quality and thought they could be expanded a bit :) some people do crossword puzzles .. heh Appreciate ya brother...
I feel ya Phaige! sounds cool, man I dig it. one note - the instrumental song is a WACF demo from 80 - sincerely, the VH snob from the Desk
haha I just today posted the 80s version from WACF.... ruclips.net/video/6oSJfCXetDc/видео.html This one with the Dave vocals added was the earlier version... pretty sure... enjoy :)
@@phaigemartin I listen to this song & the one you just released as diff songs. yea, few same parts but they sit little diff in each. maybe just me
@@robm709 yes they are actually each the same song but recorded at different times....as you said the title has changed around over the years which adds to the confusion... I really like the bass work and the higher tempo on the older version but they both rock ... appreciate your insights brother...
Black sand Dave already released this
Yes indeed, you are a true fan ... great track/s ... this is a mashup... in the description :)
This is great!!!! I can hear a little nod to Led Zeppelin’s, “Kashmir,” which of course were a big influence for Eddie & Alex. Thank you for posting!
I couldnt agree more (with your Zep compare)... I always felt that way :) such a deep dense sound and vibe... cheers!
Hilarious
Eddie and alex sound amazing!
Steel Panther would love to have written this. Fabulous
Horrible
Actually like it when a band re-works a track and releases it, this will suffice for VH though thank you very much.
BOM TRABALHO EU TAMBÉM ADORO ARREIA PRETA ISSO FUCIONA BEM AMO❤❤❤❤
When was this recorded, the guitar tone is kind of strange for Eddie.
Pretty indicative for most demos from this early era.
pre 78 is the best we got on the chain of custody ... most probably the Gene demos...there is a later version Ted did...its less raw than this one ... shall we say :)
Awesome kick drum work by Alex VH.
you are not kidding :)
❤ thank you for sharing this 👍🏻
my pleasure :)
I love Van Halen regardless who sings 🎵
This was always my favorite from the demo! Thank you for giving it a fresh new life! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
So glad ya dig it... more to come as time allows :)
Never heard this one live before . Thanks CAMCURSE
Nice ! Thanks for this one CAMCURSE
My pleasure :)
Beats Beats Working....
Its Roth crowing 🐓
I like the rawness of it. Dave didn't howl, too much. I have always liked Dave in the studio. Live, he is a joke. Eddie was on point as usual. All in all, two thumbs up!
I love Daves studio work as well... IF ya caught a great live show with Dave pre 1986 it was magic... but if it wasnt magic it was rough usually hehe. Appreciate the comment :)
That beats working baby
Amazing! Well done❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
made our day...
Absolutely brilliant! Well done . Great choice!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Roth wld have always sang this better 100%
Um Roth sings this far better.......but its decent. Musicctop 5 vh song
I agree with ya... appreciated
Pretty awesome! VH demis are awesome
Preciate ya :)
Diver Down doesn't have the same punch as the 1978 debut, but technically, it's a good album 🎸
I agree with ya :)
That was dumb
Sadly there is so much live audio but so little video to accompany it.
You are so right !! but I do believe there is still something from this era out there somewhere...
Heck yeah, rocks like Van Halen 2,rest in peace Eddie, God bless your soul.
Wow, another kickass faster than hell live VH tune! Sounds like it would be so fun at a VH concert! I so regret not seeing them while Eddie was alive! Now it’ll never happen. The closest I’ll get is if Sammy does another tour with Mike A. and maybe Satriani and whoever’s gonna drum for um since no more Jason Bonham touring with um………But maybe they still are touring an they come close to my town……🤘🏼 ✌🏼
I was hoping Al, Wolf . Mike and Dave with Wolf on guitar would be the closest thing the OG... but the Sammy gig may be the last house on the block sadly.
Dam that was faster than the record version! They were just fuckin flyin along on that tune! That’s a deece tune though! 🤘🏼 ✌🏼
