  • San Francisco Bay Area musicians are legendary for dedicating themselves to good works and donating their time and performances to charitable causes. When their own community was hit by the Loma Prieta earthquake of October 17, 1989, the call went out again.
Paul Kantner answered the call, pledging to play with Grace Slick at the November 26 Benefit Concert held at the Cow Palace. He attended the KQED/Bill Graham Presents joint press conference held at KQED studios on November 15, 1989 announcing this Bay Area historic event.
Paul Kantner, (March 17, 1941 - January 28, 2016) is best known as the co-founder, rhythm guitarist, and a secondary vocalist of Jefferson Airplane, a leading psychedelic rock band of the counterculture era. He continued these roles as a member of Jefferson Starship, Jefferson Airplane's successor band. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Jefferson Airplane in 1996 by Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart.
