Yeah, Marty Balin is the guy who could sing, "it's not you; it's not me", and Be the Classic Front Man he is! "Plastic Fantastic Lover" is a signature piece from the airplane days.
Thanks! We've put up hundreds of performance clips on the Betagems channel since this upload, but we still keep going back and playing this. It's the literal definition of a lost gem that should be enjoyed by as many people as possible!
One of the best supergroups in the business. This band is a well-kept secret of musical excellency!! I wish that they had put out more than one album!!
I always enjoyed this band and now thanks to you I can see them again......"America" was a great song, the message of it in ways reminds me of Steppenwolf's "Monster" for some reason, really good stuff, thanks!!!!
This was a great underrated band, and a terrific performance! To my mind, this would have been the ideal direction for Starship, but alas, once they took all the Tuna from the ingredients, they never rocked quite like this again --
After some of the worst of the Jefferson Starship and Starship drek (yeah there was good stuff too), KBC was such a refreshing album. If not quite the Airplane, it is still a return to form for Paul and Marty. Slick is his usual uber competent self, even though I've never connected to his playing. And Jack is Jack, thank God. "Mariel" has lyrics that would have helped my survival of the Trump era, if only I'd remembered.
Yeah Kantner didn't transition well to this kind of thing. Who's the doof with the white sweater mugging, and posing? I guess I'd be full of myself too if I got to work with these guys. Actually, I would but I wouldn't let it show like the doof.
It’s disappointing that such creative, amazing musicians jumped onto the affected posing that characterized rock in the eighties. Still playing great, interesting material, but posing like they just watched some bad MTV videos. I prefer the anarchist psychedelic folk/rock of the JA.
If you were lucky enough to see the KBC band live in the 80's you were very, very lucky.
God they don’t have bands like this anymore…. Rock at its best
What a shame they only made one album. Glad to see this clip.
Their song America is among the best songs ever written about this country.
That and Steppenwolf's "Monster", songs telling people to wake up and do some good things...
This was during a period when they had all left Jefferson Starship in the '80's.
What a great band. A lot of us jumped on board being Airplane fans, but what a great album it was and is.
Unfortunately there was only 1 album.

Mark Aguilar!!! He played Bass with PAX a Great Band from Lima Perú
Forgot how much I dug these guys
"summer of '85 , driving back to Washington, " -- American Dreams
There never was and never will be anything quite like these guys.
America about 22 mn. in, gotta' love that sax !!!!!!!!!!!
Good Lord...the beautiful musicianship here...where did it all go??? These guys are FANTASTIC.
R. I. P. Paul Kantner and Marty Balin.
Those were good days at the World's Most Famous Beach, lol
KBC was a great band....

Even in the mid 80's Kantner and Balin could find something to be hopeful about and something to say. Pretty tight band, too. Thanks for posting this.

Can't believe some of the shallow comments here about their looks;etc. This band is tight!!

They did a "Dress Rehearsal" free concert in Golden Gate Park- got stoned and hooked up with friends (old and new)'87
Betamax was always the superior format much better quality recording... I was a video engineer in the early 80s. This is an awesome Video
Thanks for posting this!

Kantner's Nicaragua Diarys is some interesting reading.
3/5 of an Airplane.......
Could someone post the setlist with timestamps ?
Alan Hunter from MTV introduces. Interesting.
How many bad moustaches can one band have.... 😂
The Airplane/Starship was quintessentially '67, then '87...except everyone sucked in 1987.
God the 80's were bad
