Really starting to see the progress. You might try blocking on the big floor. Also you might try a scrap insert in the i-beams when squaring and cutting to length. Great job.
@@Kudzu-Kid thank you. I have made a jig in the past for cutting I joist that worked pretty well. It’s not that bad with these 9 1/2 joists then with the 11 7/8 joists to square. I’m debating on blocking the TJI I joists, as it might damage the joist with splitting by the toe nails. I will contact my building inspector to see if I need to add blocking with a 13’ span.
@@ShadowMoonFarms we didn’t want to put any holes into the new floor lol Also, I don’t think the roof will be on for a while, so we want to protect it.
Hi. I have been watching most of your building videos. Great work ! I think it would be wise to paint that floor (and the ends) to protect it from the rain. I suspect it will take a while before you get the roof installed. Keep up the good work!
@@Benthitchfarm Aha, i assumed that there was different versions. I thought the yellow one was the only one that was water resistant. Anyway good product!
LOL, I had to laugh at your comment "They didn't even try." Last job I was on we had a massive LVL show up, it looked like they cut it with a chainsaw while drunk it was so bad. Two inches out from top to bottom. Those are the ones they produce on a Friday or a Monday, lol.
@@deborahratcliff8234 I’m debating on if it’s a good idea with these TJI I-joists. I don’t want to cause any damage from toe nailing like splitting the top or bottom flange. 🤔
@12:19 - the canopy/shade shelter in the background is deceiving, as my brain keeps seeing a snow covered mountain. :) Are you going to backfill that corner now that the floor is on and giving the stem wall some support? I would think walking onto the floor now will greatly increase your productivity.
I can definitely see that regarding the canopy! 🤣 The backfill will be done when we complete the main house joists and subfloor! We are both looking forward to no more "Walking the plank"!!!
Don't you need to add filler blocks on each end of the I-joists to make them as wide as the hangers to nail them completely? I've never seen joists installed flush with the sill plates. Can't beat Advantech subflooring! Thanks for sharing!
@@rixtrix11 Advantech is the best! The joist hangers we bought are specifically used for I joist. They nail at the top and the bottom of the I Joist and hang off the sill plate. By hanging off the plate, you don’t need as many fasteners into the joist.👍
@waderue Hey Wade! We didn't mention it in this video, but we did in a previous one, that our excavator recommended that we get the decking installed prior to him doing the backfill. Not as big of a concern on the garage area of the house, but definitely for the main part, as that foundation wall spans 64 feet, and it could potentially get pushed in. Thanks for the comment! 😊

You can get a router bit that would cut the excess off on your over hang, and you will be able to ues it when you are doing door and window openings.
