On the generator, please check the oil it’s oil is low. The engine will not start. I have two of those generators if that’s not the problem check to make sure the vent is OK if that’s not OK the float and the carburetor the needle the jet is probably sticking. On the outboard I’m not trying to seem like I know it all, but I have a lot of experience in diesel jet engines automobile engines all sorts anyways on the outboard. I believe you have a coil problem. Somebody mentioned that before I think you have a coil those coils are covered by resin and and sometimes crack sometimes they crack and moisture gets in there. New spark plugs in the outboard will probably get it running again, but it’ll start quitting because it’s not a hot enough spark and they’re fowling
I’m gonna rush right now. I’m sorry my spelling is probably not correct. If you need any information, I can look up stuff for you. Just let me know. Sorry I’m rushing right now.
Cheers from Colorado. I know you feel like you're struggling or maybe on a losing streak, but I think you're killing it. This all looks amazingly desirable coming from a guy working an office job.
Well.. its actually not. It's the opposite, when he gets stuck like now with only problems. Just as, or more frustrating than a boring, but safe and stable job/life. Living of grid is a dream, but allso a living nightmare. You have to be able to see this. It's obvious.
You are a strong man Shawn carrying those heavy logs. So much work to do and lots of hardship while we love watching you. It's tough living the mountains when you don't have an easy access and enough money. Take care of your self. We need more awesome videos.
Shawn, you're doing great man..... and if you ever get discouraged, think of all the people working in cubes, staring at computer screens, fighting traffic, and wishing they had your life. You're inspiring people all over the world 🌎.... greetings from Virginia.
Buy a product called sea foam. Put it in every gas tank u have and all equipment. Don’t measure just pour it in. Best stabilizer you can use. Makes everything run top notch summer and winter.
Damn,i am so rooting for You. You are twice what i wish i was 30 years ago. Dont forget you have years to make it perfect, make it home sweet safe home now.
Howdy from the NWT! Love your content bud, always look forward to your new episodes. One thing I really love is that no matter the hand you're dealt, you step back and plow through it after you've taken some time. I think you're a little hard on yourself at times but you persevere. You're authentic and that's what sets you apart from a lot of other content. Hope freeze up goes as well as it can for you, keep up the great work!
Im leaning on dirty carbs ,maybe some water in the fuel. Maybe oil mix is too rich so it fouls the plugs over some time . I hope the mechanic gets it figured out and dialed in for you man !
You need to put a level marker in the river so you don't have to guess if its deep enough or not for the boat, take the guess work out of it in an instant 😉
Yes! Another video! Woot woot! My #1 favorite channel and although being able to see your videos every Thursday was nice - actually not knowing exactly WHEN a new one will post makes your videos even more special!! Hoping you get that motor fixed and the mill soon! We are all rooting for you!!
Great video. Don’t worry so much about getting back to building. We all just like coming along for your journey. You’ve got this and things will come together.
Hey Shawn, have you considered an electric jet motor? This would be much more reliable given all of the gas issues from the weather. You could get a couple lithium batteries to power it and just store them inside when it is freezing out. You could build a hydro generator that gives you power 24/7. I can certainly help you or direct you in building one of considerable power. I can also show you how to have PC on your large TV without the need of laptop for more reliable computer set up.I love what you are doing and I truly want to be as remote as you are and I am off grid now but not as remote and I would love to have a raging river such as what you have. You could also build a rope bridge up high from tree to tree or even bank to bank. You could use a barge as well that you could pull yourself across with a rope and have the rope flown across with a drone when you want to cross with materials, you just pre set it up on each side and ready to use your drone for carrying the rope. I can show you several ways that are relatively inexpensive to do. Would love to help you out there!
Haha, love your humour! Well thought out reasons regarding the cable and boat configuration, you have a logical and practical approach to the problems. Good luck with the motor and enjoy the beautiful place you have up there!
Hey Shawn, thank you for the month long video journey that you have provided for us! I've been following the channel for almost 6 months now and your video upload has definitely been my highlight every thursday since! Wanted to thank you for the work you've been putting into the videos and your project in general! It is both impressing and motivating for me. Thanks a lot from Germany, Jari!
Digging your vlog brother.. lots of back country tubers out there posing and trying to teach. I really respect your sincerity and for sharing your learning experiences and struggles. I was a Carpenter and outdoorsman all of my adult life, thinking I'd get to what you're doing. Life and health have a sense of humor, so now I look forward to that experience through groovy, honest , hard working, problem solvers like you. Keep making good decisions out there in the woods. D.
Before you pull off the Carbs, try draining them. Might be water in there. Easy job to do with the tools you got there. Make sure you have clean fuel before trying again🤞
Was thinking the same. Especially on the generator. Might have water in the fuel tank. When pulling the bowl look for water droplets. It will be visible most likely. If so you need to drain the entire content of the tank to be safe. I don't know the name of the product in English, but there is a very common additive you can put in the gasoline that will make the water mix with the fuel (to a certain extent). Considering your environment and the use of so many containers etc it should probably be a part of your inventory.
I agree with you. I think he's got some really s**t fuel. If he can't deal with the carb, a small engine carb isn't expensive to rebuild or replace even. I wouldn't risk my life to learn. Learn when it's not critical.
You need a good set of chest waders, 2 large truck inner tubes, a sheet of T-1 11 for a flat platform, 20 feet of Pollyroad that floats. Build a raft and wade the lumber up the river to the camp when the water level is low. Drill out some holes to run some rope through to secure the T-1 11 to the tubes.
You seem to have fuel issues in both units so turn off fuel and run engineto empty carby (condensation/water) If you going to spray do it for couple seconds RC or WD40 deep into carb intake with throttle full open and out of gear.
As far as a cable across the river, just something like a ferry in the old days where you have a pulley system with a small raft. A pulley like the Amish use for laundry.
Hi Shawn nice to see you on line again… keep up the good work and get set for winter❤❤❤…. Must be great not having to wade across the river for your starlink as well..
It has been mentioned a few times here but i would agree i think you have a water in your fuel issue in generator and boat. Drain your generator tank and then keep it out of the rain after
Hope you don’t mind but I wrote to Tohatsu and asked them to checkout your channel. Told them you need a motor maybe it would be a good promotion for them to support you with a jet drive? Worth a shot. You could do the same with saw mills as I know some companies have sponsored RUclips channels. Best of luck!
keep up the good work. the work is never ending but i guess the old phrase "paying your dues" comes to mind because in a few years when you are all settled in your going to look back and laugh and remember all the hoops you had to do to get there.
Would a chain work? The chain is fixed either side but drops to the river bed. You use your boat and pull the chain over the boat like a ferry. Maybe the metal boat could have some sort of guide (like row locks) just to guide the boat so it always points up river and can’t turn sideways and be rolled. Just an idea.
AHHH. hot coffee , Saturday morning ,sun shining and main man Shawn on the old RUclipss . Made my weekend big fella, cheers mate from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 👍 👌 👏
The boat engine issue is very likely a ignition issue. Not the spark plug, but coil pack, or distributor. Could offcourse be injectors. But those can ble cleaned./same with if its a carby. Allso, when using start gas/spray, you need to open the throttle so it gets in to actually detonate from the spark you say you have.
It's a really great idea to try getting a sawmill there asap so that you can at least make what you are battling to get there. I think it's going to be a game changer for you to have, let's just hope it's going to be reliable. Good luck with the outboard, hopefully you'll get it sorted before the freeze. Cheers from Cape Town. 👍❤️
Just to give some inspiration. There are cable ferries. You could tension it to pull yourself across in some floating boat/platform. Then when crossing is finished you can release tension and let it sink to the bottom and the waterway is clear. Would require at least a manual winch on each side and a sinking rope (anchor rope). But this does not require insane tension and heavy duty stainless wires. It will not get you killed if it fails. It could even support you when you walk across. But anyways. Fully agree that it should not be something you focus on or prioritze now or even for a few years
If you had two ropes tie one to each side of the river and pull yourself with one and bring the other to pull yourself back with the other. You could make a raft just for going back and forth. If you wanted to be fancy you tie each robe with a knot ever foot give your take for easy pulling
For the generator pull out jet and boil in hot water for 10 minutes... Same happened to my lawn mower... Make sure floats are not sticking .. check lines
Hi, building a crossing of the river is a costly (costly, minimum $50 thousand) hazardous undertaking that may last only until the next flood. I am an angler and have used them all over New Zealand and these are solid structures build by the Parks engineers for public use and are called Flying Foxes! We normally have a cable swing bridges to cross rivers, but even these can be wiped out in a flood. In your case you need cash to get all your materials together and have them moved by helicopter, expensive but cheaper than making a river crossing. The solution for transport on your shallow river is a NZ Hamilton Jet. Look it up, it was designed for fast flowing low level rivers. Good luck mate, you will need it! Harera
I really like your hungry man meals. Shawn , depending on that old outboard, which is not dependable, it cost less with a jet driven 50 hp Honda or Yamaha. You can take the lower unit off and install the jet drive. The Honda has more power than the Yamaha . The two motors I have used in resorts are very dependable. They will go through hell with tourists . Take that motor and mark a reef . Also look for a boat made with aircraft aluminum on the bottom hull ! That boat will take a beating without caving in

Does the Honda have a low oil shut off? If so, try disconnecting it and then try starting...sometimes these can stick shut grounding out the ignition as soon as it starts to run. It shuts itself off...just disconnect the wire.
Hello shawn my friend. The issue that the jet motor seems to be having is gas issues. I would start by checking the gas lines for a small one way filter. And number 2 I would check the gas tank for a filer in that aswell. #3 i clean the carb and jets. And last I would put a little bit of seafoam in the gas(will help clean the full gas system. As always stay safe and enjoy yourself buddy. Another wicket video by the way
Good to see you battlin.. Just a thought.. A 5gallon pail with a spigot installed.. filled with water. attached to your little stove.. warm water for anytime use. also as warm water a tiny bit more heat radiating in that small space.

Running a cable across the river in my opinion is ridiculous ,extremely costly and you could buy a tractor, build a road in much cheaper i bet.
Can't wait to see what they find with the motor. Love this channel!

I bet you have water in your fuel check that. Maybe insert an inline fuel filter so you can see if there is any water.
