Put your paper below the charcoal platform in the starter. Hold the starter upright, put paper up into area under charcoal platform, put charcoal in top section.
Tip on the Chimney: put the crumpled paper UNDER the chimney then put the charcoal INSIDE of the chimney, then light the paper. Works for me everytime with 3 sheets of newspaper.
I was gonna comment on the paper location, but it seems others have already mentioned it. If I get impatient and want to start things faster, I put the paper on the bottom and light it up. When it is burned to ash, I pick it up and stick a second set of paper under there and light than one. Twice the burn time seems to get things going quicker.
Thanks. Yep I was a newbie so I had to learn it all through trial and error. 😆 Now that it is warming up again it is time to get it out and do more grilling. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated!
Thank you. It has been a learning curve cooking with charcoal but I think I've got it now. I'm enjoying it. I picked up some chestnuts in the backyard yesterday and roasted some on my little grill. They turned out nicely!
you use a chimmney generally to get some charcoal lit, not all of them. Then the lit charcoal can light up the rest of the charcoal on your cooking surface. The reason I find this works better is what will happen is while you are waiting for the charcoal to whiten or ash over on the top of the charcoal starter, the charcoal at the bottom of the starter will burn off. I generally light a few which takes ten minutes and then dump all of them on the top of the pile of the charcoal and they will cook down (top down method). Also, lump charcoal does not have the binders that other charcoals do so it does not have to be completely lit and burns a lot more clean.
Nice review. I hope it will put a smile on your face knowing that I'm watching your review from Bahrain. One more tip that will make you love this grill even more. Use the lower part as a stove-top griddle to cook indoor in the rainy days (or any day) the flat side is for eggs, pancakes, smash burgers and so. The other side is for streaks sausage and everything that you'd like to put some grill marks on!!
Nifty grill. Sounds a bit too heavy for me, but pretty cool that it’s portable. Just remember your supposed to cook the food, not your camera Sis. I like your table setup. Let me know if you want help designing a backyard cooking area. Sounds like it would be fun.
Great review, Chastity! Sorry about the GoPro! It looks like Steve enjoyed the burgers!! Lol, drool-worthy! Oh, and thanks for the shoutout! I hope the bacon grease helped!
The bacon grease and putting the paper in the right area of the chimney helped. 😆 I was putting it in the bottom of where the charcoal goes instead of the bottom underneath. I probably should have watched your chimney short first. 😆 🤣 works great now. And the GoPro still works great.
Awesome review on the lodge cast iron grill. I really like it. I love cast iron. I have MS also, I struggle with lifting heavy objects, but over the past 2 years I’ve regained a lot of my strength back in my arms and legs. At one point I couldn’t lift a folder or my phone. Prayers for you and journey to regaining strength. It’s a roller coaster for us I know. Take care and stay safe. Enjoyed the video. The burgers and hotdogs looks delicious.😊🌸
Thank you. I'm sorry to hear that you have MS also. I know it is a struggle. I miss my brain the most. When I have flare ups I have issues remembering words and concentrating on tasks. I also get sensory overload if I'm on electronics too much so I have to limit my RUclips time these day. I've been on a strict diet and exercise routine trying to regain as much of my health as I can and getting this excess weight off. My hands are my weak spot right now. With each flare up it changes though. Prayers going out for you.
@@BobbiJo Same hear, my brain is what I miss the most, I cant remember the simplest things. I feel as if im in the 2nd grade, hard to stay focused. The lesions keep forming, hopefully on my next MRI is good news. On Kesimpta. Prayers for you too.
@@TripleThreatFirearmsDefenseInc Hello, sorry to hear you have MS. I'm just popping in a year later to see if you have tried the carnivore diet. It seems to be excellent for helping with MS. All the best
Nice grill you got. There are small charcoal starters to light the fire easier. Also, you can just put charcoal on the glowing charcoal and it will start on its own inside of the grill. I spray the meat with oil instead of the grill.
I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I don't have a cook it all to compare it to. I do enjoy the kickoff grill though. Thanks for stopping by.
@@BobbiJo It looks like it would help hide the flames in stealth camping situations. Plus the efficiency of coals. You can use an upside down 12 inch Cast Iron pan to use as a lid to help smoke the meat better, and hide the glow of your coals. 100 bucks on Amazon. I've got my eyes on it. 😏🙏🏼

@@offthemapoutdoors I have a propane grill with burner and I'll set the chimney on that without paper and light the coals.
I am excited to see what all creations you can come up with on that. What an incredible gift!
You just enjoy being the taste tester.
What an awesome grill. It looks great, you did an excellent job figuring it all out, table included! Thank you. I think I want one
Thanks. I like that it is small. I meant to do a video of cleaning it after I was done and I forgot. Ill try to remember that next time.
Glad to see a lady’s perspective on this awesome little grill. I love mine.

I took some practice. I burnt my chicken the first time because I've never cooked on charcoal. I'm loving it now though.
I would like this with a charcoal designeted conteiner under, and more Depp in the top for better handle food and safety and easy use

cool grill 😎🙏👍👍
Thanks, I am enjoying it. It is like a cast iron skillet. The more you use it the better the seasoning gets and it is easier to clean.
Good job on this review.
Thanks!
I think this would work great for us since we're in a duplex. I was like, don't spray the fire!🙈😆🔥
It would. I was trying to lightly spray the top. I'm thankful my GoPro is ok.

You can put oil on a paper towel and coat the grill

Up the burger buns by using Marty’s buns. Makes a huge difference
I've never seen Marty's buns. Where do you find those?

Put paper under the chimney, not where you put the charcoal
Yes, I learned that. 😆
Too much stuff just to cook out a little bit of food. I love cast iron stuff but I’ll pass on this. Needs a much bigger cooking surface.
