Today I am turning my Lodge Kickoff Grill into a smoker. I wasn't sure if it would work for ribs because they needed to smoke so long. I was searching online for some advice on ways to do this and came across a video by @outdoorcastironcook. He was smoking a ribeye on his Kickoff grill. Here is a link to that video - • Lodge Kickoff Grill . If you haven't checked out their channel, you should. They have a lot of great videos.
So, after seeing how his steak turned out, I decided I needed to get a 12 in Dutch oven or camp oven. I went on a shopping trip to the Lodge Factory Store in South Pittsburg, TN. I found a 12 in camp oven in the "Factory 2nd's" section for $21 and some change. Can't beat that deal. Here's the video for my shopping trip - • Shopping at the Lodge ... . Then I waited to find some ribs on sale. Finally, the sale happened and I stocked up on babyback ribs. So, in this video I take you through how I smoked them using my Lodge Kickoff Grill. It worked great.

Sooo amazing 😍
Thank you.
Your ribs looked great….I’m coming over to take care of those leftovers fer ye!
Unfortunately the leftovers have been taken care of...lol But you are welcome to join us at Christmas when we have them again. You can bring your dogs too.
Check out the "snake" method for smoking. It's normally associated with the round Weber grills, but I think it could be used in the kickoff grill as well.
I will check it out. Thanks!
Maybe? The kick off grill is only 12 inches in diameter.
I did know Lodge cast iron made grills. I love cooking in my cast iron skillet. I imagine being cooked on a cast iron grill is the best and like your husband said he is the luckiest guy alive. 🤣 He is cracking me up shouldn't be wasted on skinny people.
He was cracking me up too. Skinny people need to eat too. Probably more so than us plump people. 😂 He keeps me laughing all the time. I love the grill. Thanks for watching. I think that was probably his best food review yet. 🤣
That looks so amazingly good !
They were. Thanks for watching, Sherry.
That looks absolutely amazing! And the grill?!? I had no idea! Santa can I change my list? Very nice video!
Thank you. Yes, the grill has been a lot of fun.
I was wondering about that grill, so It guess it does ok.
I've enjoyed it so far. I will do another review video after I've used it for a while.
Glad you found us, Bobbi Jo. Ribeyes are my favorite and I really like the cook we got on the Kickoff grill. OCIC
The kickoff grill seems like a pain in the rear to use. Because you can't add more charcoal or wood, without removing the entire grill portion.
But, you were smart to use your dutch oven as the lid.
I think you should flip the entire workings around and try that. The dutch oven on bottom, the kickoff grill sat inside it. Then the vented lid on top. You'd still have to remove the kickoff grill to add charcoal and wood, but you food would NOT have a chance to spill off. Then you can toss in more charcoal and wood inside the dutch oven. It would work more like a barrel smoker or Tandor oven.
@@chrissewell1608 I've used it a lot and it really isn't a pain. The top removes easily with the handles. If I am just grilling, I don't have to add charcoal.
That looks so delicious, The dry rub that you used sounds amazing as well was it spicy? Thank you very much for the video we are going to have to try that out for sure
It wasn't spicy. I needed to add more than a teaspoon on Cayenne or pepper flakes to get it to the spice level that I like. It just had a very good flavor too it but not spicy. Thanks for watching.
love this wow yummy tfs
Thank you.
Wow, the ribs looked great! Yummy rub!
Thank you.
It looks very tasty, but the whole setup is hot ,heavy, cumbersome and dangerous. It is too easy to knock over or burn yourself.
@@vinquinn well it works fine for me. Thanks for stopping by.
I really like ur set up i use my lodge wok and pizza pan for my dutch oven it works wonders and i cook my corn bread right on top
I want to get a Wok eventually. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Crubby.
WOW they look awesome! I just got me a pellet grill the other day, smoked some chicken in it. Awesome, but mine didn't look anything like yours! 😂🙌
I would like to eventually get a pellet grill. I bet that smoked chicken was drool-worthy. I've had a lot of fun with this Kickoff grill so far. Thanks for stopping by.
@@BobbiJo Indeed 🙌
20.Hello my friend. I just saw the notification bell. I'm watching your video right now. stay in touch please👍
Thanks for watching.
@@BobbiJo you're welcome my friend
Very beautiful, thanks,
Thank you.
I did not know that you could smoke this way . I would have put wood chips in a tinfoil packet with some fork holes and put it on top of the charcoal . Your method produced a slower cook with much more smoke . Thanks for a great demonstration . Ontario Canada .
Very nice tutorial
Thank you and thanks for stopping by.
Pigsicles yes please!
We will be having more for Christmas dinner. Thanks for stopping by, Mike.
Great video Bobbi Jo 😊
Thank you!
they came out great
Thanks. We enjoyed them.
You should try doing whole wings on that cooker next!!
I've done that before. I just didn't video. When the weather warms up I will get a video of it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BobbiJo I have that kit in the box still I need to try ribs. Looks amazing
Interesting
Thanks
Why do people use mustard on ribs? Why?
@@chrissewell1608 why not? It is delicious.
@@BobbiJo But I don't taste mustard. Do you? We brush a little cooking oil on our ribs, then add a dry rub for flavor.
I think if the mustard is just a binder for dry rub, you could use mayonaise for some added fat & possobly better flavor?
My husband does not like mayonnaise. He loves mustard.
Smoked ribs are only my favorite. I'm such a glutton for food content like this. Come by the show, Bobbi Jo. You'll run into all kinds of people.
Thanks. They were drool-worthy!
yum 😋
Thank you.
Amazing 🤩
Thank you.
Yum 🥰
Thanks.
When do we get the rest of the ribs?
Hopefully whenever I visit.
When Kim visits. She is also going to take us to Red Lobster to try that new shrimp creation they have. I need to try it so I can figure out how to make it.
@@BobbiJo that’ll be my Christmas present to y’all.
@@CountrysideGeekery and the ribs will be ours to you. 😂
@@BobbiJo ok so now that we got Christmas squared away let’s not forget my birthday. 😁

"I've never smoked anything before, not even a cigarette." 🦾📺😁
I wish I could say the same. 😄
Makeshift smoker worked out slick and the ribs look fabulous. He certainly is pleased! 😊
Well, I've now smoked ribs so I've smoked something. 🤣
@@WaysideWade yes, I think that was Steve's best review yet. 😅
