The journalist is the most genuine and sympathetic person and I come back to this review quite a few times because its so enjoyable to watch. I wish for more car reviews to be so calm and focussed. Great voice, presence and very well done presentation :)
Alex did such a great job! The visuals, music, and commentary were very soothing and luxurious feeling in this video. Slightly different vibe and I loved it!
🫡
The refreshing coloful cutenss, the practility, performance and the eco-friendly attitude and considerate design features, coupled with a lower price, this is definitely a winner in my book! AND I love your review, very concise and professional, just learned from you that the entry version had LFP battery, great to see that Volov is opting for more eco-friendly battery as well, I hope LFP or Sodium ion battery will get better and Volvo keeps up with the emerging new batteries!
I have a 2007 Volvo C7O T5 Convertible… I love it ❤
Seriously impressed by the value this offers.
Edit: For the people saying this isn't cheap. True, I guess. But this is an *EV* from a renowned luxury brand. The fact that you can buy this (again, an EV) for less money than a C Class is lnsane.
Since when has volvo been a luxury brand?
Volvo is more premium than luxury, even if their 90 series are really well done.
Volvo has been more of a premium brand.
I don't consider Volvo's anything over basic utility. Nothing special except their safety standards tbh
@Jirozi if you go on a road trip for 3-4 hours straight then you will appreciate their good chairs 👌🏻 anyone who likes comfort should give newer Volvos a go imo. Not as crashy/harsh in the suspension either compared to the VAG group.
Great review Alex, thank you! Beautifully made car
The exterior is gorgeous. I like the Ford Mach E interior with the buttons and display behind the steering wheel a bit better, however.
Best car review I have seen in months - beautifully edited - well done!
I can't wait for the eventual EX40 or EX60
Wait long enough and there'll be an EX100, with 1,500 mile range. 😄
Wow.
We need a head to head.... EX30 Performance vs MG4 X-power......!! BEVs are starting to have real affordable performance.....
The base model EX30 is $65k AUD but that's not the headline 4 sec 0-100km/h performance model that set you back $75k AUD, that's not affordable for the masses.
@TB-up4xi I think that must be USA.... Where Volvo have decided to pay the Trump taxes. Hence the difference in price from Europe to USA
@@mikadavies660 no.. EU prices for the performance model is 40-50% higher than the basic model.. because its locked to the top spec'ed model. Stupid descision.
Will be interested in real world testing with production model. All signs point to this being a worthy new small car with an added bonus it is actually going to be available in North America! Not at all interested in model Y, or EX-90, but this looks promising. Fingers crossed.
I love how small it is. Great scale.
Great car and an excellent presentation. Thank you, Alex!
Best EV on the market. Great review.
I really like this car. So clean looking and well designed.
This Volvo is the BOMB. Great looks. Perfect size. Stellar performance. At a good price. Can't fault the Ex30.. :O
I love it. Likely my favorite EV on the market.
Love Alexandra's reviews!
pity no drive test for this Volvo yet, but they are beginning to seem approachable from a financial point of view
She kept saying "$34,000" for the price. That's the very very base model. All the cool stuff come on the high trim models, which will likely be mid forties.. (or even low fifties)...
It's the oldest trick in the book
@@Kraven83 To be honest, I don't know why they bother 'telling' us anything like pricing or range. We have technology to put those numbers on the screen....
Yes. The car shown is not $34K but maybe $10K more. I'm not sure if it tops out at the low $50s but wouldn't be surprised if it does.
good looks, affordable, and practical!
@volvo are right on the money with this design. Absolutely stunning car.
Great review. Thank you.
Very nice it’s on my shortlist for the next car 😊
Great review very concise, probably my favourite EV so far in regard to price, styling and equipment specification. The competition will have some head scratching to do to compete on price & spec.
Great review. Thank you👍. Will be interesting to see what it's like when you get to drive it and the experiences of the first owners. Seems a good car so far.
If all of this is true this car will be my new recommendation for a compact electric family car, dethroning the Model Y.
Basically I like the value you get for your money here.
I'm eager to see a full review with some hard numbers.
.... so this car can already be configured and ordered, at least in germany. Estimated delivery time 8 - 10 months (!). And while the starting price is indeed 34000 euros you have to pay up to around 54000 euros for the all-inclusive long range top specc.
Which just so happens to be almost exactly the base price of a Model Y Long Range. Volvo sure has some major balls when you look at the prices for the various upgrade packs on the EX30. 13000 to go from Core to Ultra? 5200 for the larger battery and more powerful yet more efficient engine?
Questionable.
Hi Alex - your reviews just get better and better! - I had an amazing Vovo XC40 with all the Polestar Upgrades - sadly my business perished with Covid so I bought a top of the range Dacia Duster to cut dow on costs.
Glad to say things are on the up and at 34K (ish) I am so tempted by this little beauty which would be a lovely way to enter the EV world - looks lush (and fast)
Are you talking about insurance costs? cause i don't see how Dacia could be more cost effective than a Volvo..
@@hassannour1697 No Hassan - was trying to cut down generally because the business went down with Covid - now on the up so the Volvo XC 30 looks perfect for my needs- thank you.
Hope you've got a garage about ten meters away from your house. Insurance companies don't want lithium batteries near your residence, due to the risk of spontaneous combustion.
@@jackmorganfiftyfive Thanks for info Jack - really wasnt aware of that !
After the war in the middle east started, I just ordered it. My last volvo was an xc90 R polestar. Pretty fast but this little brick in baby blue is going to be a sleeper like the blue vinyl top turbo regal I had back in the day, only faster, HA. Paul Newman would approve,,,,,
Good preview seriously considering getting this car.
Looks like a really nice car, great runaround.
Nice - like it. One flaw....no supercharger network. Good effort though
Nice attention to detail and environmental considerations
This is a hatchback with design tricks to make it look like a crossover/suv. Looking at the dimensions it's a similar size & height to the vw id.3
@3:06 that is a really good idea
I’m very tempted… great review
I really like this, this is one of the better sized SUVs I’ve seen. Shame the lack of buttons, I’m not for that honestly…
It's not really an suv lol
Good luck trying to get one. I wanted a Polestar Wagon and didn't want to wait a year. Of course I was told that after a $5,000 deposit and then fought to get my money back after they couldn't"t give me a build date.
Very nice car. Should bring new customers to Volvo.
Great job Mrs Peel
Recycled material interiors are genius for the companies- you throw a bottle away then they take it and charge you for it again!
First Volvo of this new era that I'm actually interested in. Loved my C30, liked their V60/V90s... just want different interior options, some of those patterns just look cheap, just make them solid colors.
This seems like good value. What I don't understand is how they justify such a ludicrous price hike for the EX-90, which is basically just a much bigger version with a few extra luxuries.
They think that will maximise their profits. That's their job.
@@julianshepherd2038 certainly, if people are willing to pay a ridiculous extra for something just because it'll fix a bit more stuff in it then, yes, it will maximize their profits
They are just marketing you don't have to buy it,and it is a beauty.
Something with Tesla model Y and model X. The latter costs twice as much, for slightly bigger size and marginal more luxury. Price is a function of what consumers will pay is true.
Because EX30 is essentially a Chinese car, made in China and taking advantage of China's supply chain. Moreover, EX30 shares the same platform with Smart #1 and Zeekr X, to drive down cost. To avoid cannibalize XC40 recharge, Volvo shortened the wheelbase length of EX30, compared to that of Smart #1 and Zeekr X that are more roomy inside. On the other hand, EX90 uses Volvo's own outdated platform and there is no cost sharing with other cars.
Volvo has done a brilliant job here✨🇸🇪
Will Start at $60K where I live which for a Volvo is a pretty good price through there are cheaper SUV EV's such as the Hyundai Kona Electric starting at $54K, BYD Atto 3 starting at $48K and MG ZS EV starting at $45K
👌🏾Great thinking Volvo!
nice car i like the look very clean and futuristic
The LFP battery has 2 advantages: you can always charge it to 100% and it will last you "forever", around 3.000 charge cycles.
Which works out at eight years, considering most buyers will have it on charger on a daily basis. By that time, range will likely have reduced by over 40%.
@@phuketexplorer Why would they charge it every day ? Can't see most buyers doing 200 plus miles a day
@@UnderWarranty Range anxiety! Same reason people unnecessarily keep their phones fully charged.
They had me until 2 buttons for windows, which may arguably be the worst cost cutting decision ever. And no gauge cluster when your only screen is profile orientation is gonna require taking eyes off the road way too much. Maybe Gen 2 they'll learn that sometimes cost savings isn't worth the compromise.
Well judging on the wild success of the Tesla Model 3/Y, most people will get used to the screen only situation.
2 buttons for windows isn't cost cutting IMO because the same thing exists on the $85,000 plus EX90 and Polestar 3. However, those do have an instrument screen by the steering wheel.
I am also disappointed by the interior
Excited about putting a deposit on this one. Just a little apprehensive with the lack of rear cup holders and driver’s display.
I love her voice it so much make me stay and watch the whole video to the end.
1:08 ooo. It even does a Moonwalk.
They come a long way since my boxy 340 tank. Noice.
Finally a sane car for this decade, even tho owning or buying a new personal car shouldn't be considered at all
It's still a stupid crossover, with a daft iPad for a dash
We would love to see Hyundai iconic 5 N vs EX30 vs MG4 Xpower!
Now I can't unsee it, in white it does look like some sort of Storm Trooper vehicle 🤣.
I have zero interest in the car to be honest, but this was just a very pleasant review to watch. Very well done!
Interesting to see how it matches up against the Smart1. Similar price point but I think the Smart may edge it
Please, please, a note to all reviewers, when you sit in the back, please state your height and say what position the driver’s seat is in. Helps enormously.
More of Alex please
Damn Alex The Gun Show is more impressive than the car " FIREPOWER!!!!"
how many seat belts are in the back row ?
This seems a total winner in every way!
Anyone know the title of the music at the start of the video??
Lovely review, beautifully presented. Just one observation if I may. When reviewing space in a car you absolutely must tell us how tall you are. All the adjectives in the world can't describe the space as well as the video picture with the reviewers size as a reference. Rear leg room looked amazing with the dainty frame of the lovely lady reviewer, but have you seen 6 ft 5 inch Jack sat in the same rear seat on the Fully Charged Show video? I am sorry if convention tells us that ladies don't reveal their height or weight as this is private, but if you are video reviewing a car then you have to tell us your height or we have no idea whether the car is spacious or not.
What's with car makers leaving out the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel? That alone takes this car of my wanted list.
What about a full review on smart #1
At last a decent price. Normally everything is north of 50k.
Lol, another car where you need to tap an icon to open the glove box
Finally, a legacy car manufacturer doing something meaningful with an EV.
Question, on a bright sunny day and the driver wears sunglasses, will the sensor have a fit, lol ?
A speedo or HUD can easily be downloaded to a mobile phone and placed in front of the driver.
This looks very very good
this is the right approach. make ev affordable and accessible compare to ice. this will boost the ev adoption in most countries.
Seems a to be a very smart design.
just give it a HeadUp display already. I‘ll buy it then..
Yep hate the tesla style without a drivers display, idiotic having to constantly glance to the side to see your speed.
zeekr x
This could be a bit of a game changer. It's the first ev that is a) desirable and b) someone like me has a chance of affording. I suspect that they will sell like hot potatoes.
This will be my first EV.
And your last, once you realise that you have been had by the net-zero nonsense and how ultimately impractical they are. Driving in winter is no fun when sat in an EV.
@@barrycrump6189 As a city driver with virtually non-existent cold weather, this is a no brainer for me lol
Looks like a great choice honestly
Go and check out Tesla. For this price you get a bigger car with way more range. Model 3 rwd. Also cheaper to drive. Less kWh/mile. Why would you buy this?
@@thedreamfactory6964 Personal preference. I don't want to be the 100th Tesla owner in my area.
I gather the speedometer is somewhere on the ipad?
Excelente calidad precios favorables
@1:08 when selling the Volvo EX90, why aren't the wheels turning as it backs up? Ok, after seeing the tiny Volvo driving across the fender of the much-larger Volvo, a few moments later, I get it now. CGI.
The front from a Hyundai Kona, the rear from a bmw i3 and the interior from a LTI London taxi. Bonus 👍Every EV is a winner
Needs the 4x option to get 350 mile range.
Needs physical buttons for AC.
Needs the speedometer to be centered on the driver.
Needs to lose the MASSIVE blinds spots at the rear corners.
Otherwise, looks like a great car.
Kind of shares its design with the new ford explorer electric
Does Chinese Volvo know not everywhere is cloudy and cold? That glass top will be a sauna in US/AUS and UK summer times. Otherwise pretty cool but needs a heads up display like U25 Countryman that’s just arriving soon.
Now that's so so beautiful and so is the car 😂. No joking aside. That suv is the only thing on the market that's caught my eyes. Thanks for the review ❤
Great but hope they put a head up display in front of you , because that tesla 3 shit with everything in centre is not good at all
I wouldn't call it cheap but rather well priced. I mean at least on the screen it doesn't have a cheap feel about it. Although it is made from recycled materials, it looks like a high quality product. I'm very curious how it will be in person.
Why electric must equal using everything via big screen. I thought they learned that people rather want to have physical buttons for several things.
They haven't learned yet. But they will, at some point.
The share of the people preferring physical buttons and a big trunk for the lower price is small. Nowdays almost everyone wants a giant TV on the dashboard, lots of unnecessary assistents, glass roof and, off course, this should be wrapped in some kind of SUV shape. And they're ready to pay for it. There's nothing about usability, durability and practicality. It's all about "wow factor" and marketing, letting the manufacturers to get better margin.
I love Volvo’s but the 0-60 time is about the only thing I can get onboard with here. This big screen tablet trend can’t end soon enough!
That small screen behind the wheel is not an instrument cluster? I thought it was
No it’s an eye sensor
Defenetly a winner
I think it looks really nice
Love Volvo! Sweet
what you don't say here is that lifepo4 is much safer than nmc and last longer. nmc is a big hazard in case of an accident.
Some body is hitting the GYM , ahm ahm ..........Alex Legouix
I am waiting for this and being sold cheaper than a model 3!
Due to cramped rear legroom, I will not bother getting a long range version as I will stringently drive a car like this for short commutes. Range is literally nothing if a rear seat passenger(s) gets uncomfortable after a long (enough) drive.
Stormtrooper! Can’t Unsee that now!😂
If the infotainment display breaks you have lost some form of control of the vehicle. Not everything has to be on the display.
5.7s is no slouch! Dats as fast as my Mazdasped 3 turbo (263 hp)!
Seems like every other EV maker is trying to copy Tesla's Model Y. One thing most people don't get is Tesla's EV software and its capabilities, on top of a very secure and aerodynamic car design. It's stable, looks sexy and also has the needed performance, battery range and comfort styling. Can't beat when Tesla dropped the price of Model Y by around 20% in April '23. Just too good for what you get - complete package.
