  • Rory goes for a drive in the new Tesla Model 3 Performance, which some people have been referring to as the Model 3 Plaid. It has more power, more torque, more performance, a new motor, new seats, and has been comprehensively overhauled to help it rival everything in its class… and even a few unlikely suspects.

But for almost double the price of a used taycan vs brand new Tesla it’s not comparable price/value wise the Tesla is faster, lighter and better network over the air updates, supercharging network plenty of things make the Tesla the winner by far other then looks.

Fun fact this Model 3 performance weighs about 4050lbs which is -500lbs- 700 LESS than the new C63 AMG 4-cylinder hybrid BS.
Edit: Caranddriver tested the new C63 and it weighed in at 4749lbs (more than most 3-row midsize crossover sold in America). So the Model 3 performance EV weighs ~700lbs LESS than the c63!! Not 500lbs less.

I can't remember which, but there is at least one EV out there that makes an artificial kind of spaceship zooming sound when you accelerate quickly, and I remember a reviewer saying it was so pointless yet still brought him so much joy to get that audio feedback while driving. While faint, I agree that the electric whine I hear when I accelerate my (non performance) M3 does add to the enjoyment of speeding up. May be fun for Tesla to add that as an internal sound-effect at some point.

Missing noise, no respect for your opinion. My E46 M3 is so loud I can’t use the stereo, my 2019 M3P is quiet so I drive to music.

    • @barygol

Exactly. Noise is something from the past. Why would you want that when you can have the same or more power without disturbing you and other people. I can listen to good music and still enjoy the power.

Great review, the best I saw today! The Bosch adaptive suspension might be the best addition to this car. Has some already got a price for China? Makes me wonder where Tesla will place this Model 3 against the strong competition over there like the Xiaomi SU7 Max.

So what is feel and feedback like through the controls? Can you feel the surface of the road through the wheel? The conact patch of each tyre through the suspension damping? A driver's car is more than just paper stats and a bumper kit.

That’s really what I’ve always liked most about my 2019 Model 3 Performance. The balance and feel is just right, more solid than a Ferrari 430 and more nimble than a Lamborghini Gallardo. The steering is direct and precise, and it has been a faithful companion for nearly five years now. It never feels like the weight is all at one end or the other. Chassis rigidity is excellent, and the smoothness of the power delivery makes it easy to drive

Ok, I will repeat what I heard from Jason Cammisa: Tesla's have always been really good for high frequency (Road texture and quick changes) feel, where it falls apart a bit is the understeer limit where it is hard to know whether you have hit it or not. BUT... he needs to do more testing as he was on a cliff face so he wasn't exactly going to fully test it. So it is good but not the best.
But if you are really interested we need to wait until more testing is done!

Tesla is the best car company ever! No gas stations, No oil changes, No smog check, No corrupt dealership, No catalytic converter and as fast as a $650,000 Lamborghini.

And without them we wouldn't be in the middle of an EV revolution/transition. Remember, GM sold out to big oil selling their EV battery technology to big oil Chevron and crushed all their EV1's. Tesla was around at the same time and REFUSED to sell out. This was even before Elon got there. Don't forget, he's not a founder.
And without them, we wouldn't have the largest, most reliable charging network in the world. We would be relying on unreliable crap chargers that would likely top out around 50 or 100kw at the most.
But their biggest advantage is still NO MIDDLEMEN DEALERS, who control ALL the pricing to whatever they want. They took the middlemen scammers right out of the picture.
