100% agree. I am awful at frog fishing and have watched so many videos on how to fish a frog, but I feel like it typically starts with them trimming the legs, bending out the hooks, and then just throwing it out there without actually going through what they are trying to do in their casts, where they are targeting, etc. Thank you for this video!

about to go fish my frog again with these tips after working my creature bait. shallow pads in central Florida/DeLand- 30 or so miles inland of Daytona. thanks bro! great video
Same exact rod line but in the magnum grass model has been perfect for frogs. 7'2" H-F 3/8-1 oz. with an awesome tip for walking and can just straight up launch them.
Caught my PB and first fish on a frog lure the other day while trying out new ponds around our local lake. I am learning (failing mostly) how to walk the dog but dang it is so much fun even when you just have the explosive strikes and missed hook sets.
I used to go out in the morning with my grandpa and "bop" frogs to fish with. We'd hook them up and then softly cast them out and let them swim until they get a fish. It was a lot of fun. I understand why you use braided line for frogs. The way you fish you need braided line.
Thanks for all the info Tyler. Luv your real-ness about the things you do and say. My kinda people. Common sense conversations are few and far between nowadays. Tight lines n God bless
In the nineties no one used braided for bass fishing. We added eyes to our rods to make them more stiff and 20lb mono. It wasn't as good as braided but it worked.
Im surprised at the amount Of comments on social media about people not being able to get anything with a frog.... i have luck with them almost everywhere i go.... maybe im just lucky... i think the biggest mistake i see people make is 1) gear (wrong rod, line, reel etc.) and 2) the retrieve (not walking it or just throwing it out and reeling it in fast which doesnt look natural) btw your intro music has been stuck in my head For like the past two weeks lol great video i also enjoy catching pike soemtimes on them or pickerel ya they tear it up but man r they aggressive
Just found your channel and wow, what an excellent video on frog fishing. You are so true about learning the motion and being patient when setting the hook. Great stuff!
Great video and detailed instructions. Can you also add footage of the frog movement as your reeling it in so we can see what the frog looks like moving through the water. Thanks brother. 👍👍🙌🙌😁😁
man everytime i get something new, theres for sure one youtuber i watch that makes a vid about it lol i just got a livetarget sunfish "frog" and so far im loving it, its like eaay mode for walking
Cant believe that you dropped a vid, during an Elite event, but since its frog fishing, I am watching it, now! LOL Frog fishing is hot right now in the Midwest!
The way I figured and did get a blowup with a frog was holding the rod to one side and moving the rod to the other side of me twitching it as i go til there was too much slack to keep moving it then reeling slack moving rod back and doing it again. Made the frog have some kind of natural swimming motion. Also probably buying heavier rod and reel for it but using a medium ugly stick with a spinning reel and 15 lb. braid. Had a fluorocarbon leader but I should probably nix that next time?
I’ve found that in some situations on pressured lakes or ponds working any shade lines or right up against the bank you can get bit when no one else is. Also slowing that frog down and walking once or twice and pausing has gotten me bit.
Love your vids man next can you do a guide of how to catch a fish in a new lake? I have a problem of having no clue where to even start in a boat on a big lake...if not I understand
How dare you catch a fish in the open skit of your tutorial 😂😂 I absolutely love your videos and appreciate you for giving the information for free much love good sir
I'm only asking about this certain frog because I bought one last winter trying to figure out winter catfish but now I have it on hand if I ever wanna use it. What is your opinion on the lunker hunt lunker frog? It is a bigger one with legs coming off the body that move and make it look like it's swimming when you retrieve it. I think I bought it because it has a big profile and I thought, "What bass couldn't resist those moving legs......." I didn't hear you mention that one is why I'm asking.
Can u please make a vid at talking abt leaders and mainline? I bought 65 lb braid to hopefully not break off in pads but then I realized there is no point when my leader is 12 lbs. it would help a lot if you could talk about leaders and mainline😊
That was my mistake, I would prematurely shut the hook on a tight line frog fishing. Thank you now I have to learn your techniques to have a high hookup ratio.
I use to use mono all the time for all my topwaters and frogs never had a problem with it. But I do use briad now on everything just because it last longer
@@TylersReelFishing yeah you don't have to set the hook as hard. Just hated paying for braid I used sufix 832 but now I tried out some other the reaction tackle braid cause it's cheap and that stuff works man Haven't had a problem with it at all

Smallmouth bass will annihilate those spiders but they are pretty damn light so kind of hard to throw with normal setup. I have been getting my friend into fishing and he's been using my frog rod/reel and I have been throwing the spider on 20lb braid with my glass crankbait rod and it's been working surprisingly well. He's been going deeper into the pads with the frog and I have been painting the outside edges with the spider. Bluegill like to keep plucking at the legs though, but hey at least that's somewhat of a dinner bell for the bass?
I caught my fist frog Bass this morning about 730 am because of this video long long deep in the grass ina decent opening and i walked fast missed went back with a recast like you said and he smashed it and jumped 2 to 3 feed and ate it and caught my 1 frog catch and My New New PB at 5.09 Lbs . Was like Ohhhh Goshhh when it hit
Do I really need 50lb tess? I have a 7 foot ugly stick with 12 lb tess that I use for 10-15 pound catfish. I am just starting to try and get heavy into bass fishing and the frog has been by far my favorite.
I use an old 80's 5 1/2' Ugly Stick with a late 70's Lew's Speed Spool BB-1 strung with 30# Spider Wire Stealth, I wait 2 seconds to set the hook (hard) and winch 'em in as fast and hard as I can. Some manufacturers' frog bodies are just too rigid, Booyah Pad Crasher in "Cricket Frog" color is very pliable and soft and hook-up rate is 90+ percent, You could compromise and spool-up with 30# braid for froggin' and use the same rig with a fluoro leader for catfish and cranking/top water for Bass, down-side to braid is price, special knots and you need line-cutters that claim to cut braided line. I also have a 70's Speed Spool paired with a heavy-action "Fightin' Rod" with 40# braid. Do not bend your frogs hooks away from the frog body to improve hook-up ratio, you destroy the weedlessness of the lure, just use 'soft-bodied' frogs (trial and error). Sorry for the long-winded reply, good luck Jared.
Could you recommend a good all around spinning reel and rod combo set up...I’m currently restocking my supply and could use all the helpful tips on the current products available?
I’ve fished frogs a couple times I’ve probably gotten 10+ blowups and I’ve yet to have a fish on for more than 2 seconds. I’ve waited on hook sets and even counted to 3 before hook setting. Seems like I never hook the fish. I use monofilament line but is that the whole problem? Is it possible the fish aren’t getting a good bite on it? Am I not hook setting hard enough?
A funny tip that works for me.. when you get a frog bite, train yourself to think "that's my frog and you can't *HAVE* it!". Set the hook hard on the word "have", that seems to give them just enough time to get it fully in their mouth.
@@TylersReelFishing I saw it online somewhere. I wish I could recall where, but it was a long time ago. Definitely NOT my original creation. But it really does work!

When is the best time to throw a frog? Season, time of day, cloud cover, temp, etc.?
Sun is better than clouds around cover. Sparse stuff, clouds are better. Water temp is anything really, over 55°. Spring-late fall
