My favorite mod on a frog is to add a fish to it.
How
@@adrainmorris7070I guess they just put it on the hooks idk
I like to pop the frog 3 or 4 times and then let him sit for a second or two and pop again and I frequently get hit after the pause
Yes because the fish gets stimulated to bite if they are still because it is an easy prey then
@@laurens6989, and that is how actual frogs act on the water. It looks more natural. Frogs are lazy swimmers on the surface and quick swimmers when under water.
@colinashby-984 i fished the frog today for the first time for scottish pike, i fished it in pauses and got hit many times when the frog was static, great way to catch pike but we missed or lost many many pike today, my best fish landed was 14lb and wow what a great fight
One tip that I've found to work great is to add (4) copperhead bb's into the belly of the frog. You can insert them through the hole that the hook comes through in the underside middle of the belly. This along with trimming the legs shorter, will reduce drag in casting and allow you to cast further and more accurately.
Try it, you will be amazed.
Eeeey that’s a really good tip man thanks I am gonna use it
The bb's won't make it sink
@@shaunmoeller3288 nope. Just gives it some rattle. I use 2 bb's in half my frogs and it works great.
I've been doing that for years... put a glass bead in there also ...
I'll be trying this this evening. Good idea.
Take a drink every time he says the word "tips"
....I'm drunk

I bought my first frog today. Was having trouble with not being quite sure what to do with it. Thanks for the video!
No problem! I hope it helped you!! Let me know if you slay some fish on it!!
Same here
Same
First tie it up.. second cast it to the water.. third reel it in slower than a fish could swim... lastly... you'll get the idea as the fish will teach you🤣🤣🤣
Excellent video! I've recently began trimming the legs and spreading the hooks away from the body. Those 2 small things have greatly improved how many strikes I get, and how many fish I hook when I do get a strike.
AMD you're absolutely correct. Waiting for just a second or two before setting the hook is not easy. Takes a lot of discipline!
Been slamming bass 45 yrs with frogs. The water trick is cool.
Great video 👍🏻 i LOVE froggin bass ! You had great tips ! I dont count seconds anymore, i just watch line, if my braids movin, it's ate... slam it home ! 🎣🕺
dude this is one of the better advice vids ive seen much thanks
thanks for the tips and that pond in the backround looks juicy
for my frog i put the bells that we use for the fishing poles. take one of the bell and put inside the frog. that rattle sounds really good
You can also put 2- 3 BB's in it and it will do the same, just dont pit to many otherwise it will sink
Great video 👌. Going to try some of these tips today.
I like to do an injured retrieval, so basically I’ll pop it a few times and let it sit for 5-10 seconds then do it again, with lots of patience, it can pay off
Great Content! Thanks for the tips!
I like that water-logged frog trick. The rattles are pretty slick too.
Glad you liked the tips!!
Great video brother. Thanks for the tips
A slow constant retrieve gets my most hits
Great video and great tips!
thanks Caleb!
One trick I do, especially at night is take some alkaselser. Break it into quarters. Insert them wherever you can. When you cast, most of the time you don't have to move the frog at all. Cast, and let the plop-plop-fizz-fizz do the work.
Awesome tips definitely worth the watch. If there’s a lot of weeds or on lily pads I’ll pop constantly over them and as it reaches the edge of the weeds or a clear spot walk it in place to get attention and bam!
Planning on to get a popping frog thanks for the tips
Nice video I have done those tip and they work very well good add vice keep up the good work and keep on fishing good luck
Actually this will be first time iv used one and your video is first I clicked on and found helpful thank you
Good content! Very helpful
Good job Austin it's me bell remember from today you told me about your channel I hope it will succeed!
Thanks for coming to watch!!
Thank u for the tips
Love the video
Long frog legs means a lot of misses as well. Bass strikes the legs and misses the hooks.
Great info man!
thanks a lot man!
Thanks for the tips.
Absolutely! Wait for the lure takedown, then lift up for a great hook.
Great video thank you
I use a slow steady retrieve with a few reel pumps. When I get a strike, I wait for the water surface to settle a bit. If the frog and line are under water, I set as hard as I can.
Thanks so much, these tips will help me a lot
Now it’s time to go catch some pigs!!
Great tips
Ty for the tips at the end cause I fish a spot that’s only like a foot deep and I can get back far enough with my frogs but the bass are just blowing up all the time way back so tomorrow I’m trying the water tip so I can get back to where they are and I have a ton of frogs I’m going to add beads to a few and try it ty for the tips great video
Thanks for the video boss
Some great tips and great comments. One of the techniques already mentioned in comments but add a bit to it. Maybe I like it because I caught my PB 10.5#, using it and that fish went wild LOL. If you have a lot of bass that like to lay up in bank undercuts, logs by the bank or rocks this has produced well. Throw the frog on the bank where you have a ways before water a foot or more if possible. Then just let it set for a minute or two (seems like an hour when you are wanting to catch fish), then bump it a few inches and wait another 30 seconds or so, then bump maybe several inches and wait. I do this 3 or 4 times. Then sit right on the edge for another 30 seconds to a minute. Excruciating for you but apparently the same for the bass! I have had a number of spectacular blowups doing this and caught some great fish in the lake we lived on in TX. If you can watch a frog on the bank, they rarely jump boom, boom, boom and into the water unless something is after them! Also, if you get a chance to fish on a super clear lake where you can see the fish coming out of cover for your lure, you can learn a lot about what stimulates the fish in that lake. My current favorite lake has crystal clear water in the spring. When the frog hits the water it stimulates fish 10' away or more and they come in a hurry. Some days if you don't move the frog, they stop and turn going back to their cover. If you start reeling while they are running to it they come on and hit it on some days. Or if it doesn't start moving, they don't come back. On other days they do just the opposite and swim over after stopping. You give it a twitch and bam. So to add to comments by others, if they aren't hitting your favorite method of letting it sit and twitch. Try letting it sit a very short bit and taking off. Frogs are likely triggered by their enemy making a big move towards them too. It was a big surprise to see fish come smoking out of cover from much further away then many people say or think they do. Simply the sound of it hitting the water will trigger them from at least 10' away if they are hungry.
Thank you! 👍🎣
I haven’t got a frog yet, I love to fish! I wish a had the lures you have, I would go nuts all day long! Thanks for the tips!
Im using to its great s.tnx.
Wow Nice 👍😁
I also like doing a pop and pause technique seems to work well
I like the 3 rip pause with my frogs
I used to do a lot of these tricks until I built some confidence working the frog now I only put some red and chartreuse on the belly fish here love it
im gonna have to try those colors out myself!
I like to fast retrieve for a couple of casts, just so it creates big ripples and stimulate the snakeheads (usually what I hunt for) and then after a while I do very slow retrieve and they hit it everytime.
Something I do with the frog is I tie a loop knot to it. Helps with the action a lot more! Also I use a sharpie and make the line black from the bait to about 2 foot up. 🖖🏽
What about green colored or camouflaged line? Same result or is the Sharpie better?
Nice!!
I like giving it tiny pops constantly so itll move water and come back to you very slowly
I ran into this video through a playlist called Making Scammers Rage, it must have been added there by mistake I assume, but it was still interesting checking out this fishing video.
Good tips
Thanks so much!
The pause always works!
I Put water in the frog for longer cast to good tips man
Do you use a popping frog or a regular frog in the thick Lilly’s
Cast the frog past the pads/mats onto the shore and then pop them into the water. Also don't be too fast to set the hook as soon as you see a splash, let them take the frog first and once you feel it, set the hook. A nice easy hook set is all you need. Using too much power on hookset can rip it out of the fishes mouth or barely hook it on the lip instead of a nice solid hook set on top of mouth.
What if you're fishing from the shore?
@@tspanier2same thing
You should show our bros how you walk your frog. Man thats something a guy has to learn to really take off. All your tips are sound. Good video
Great video bro!
I like it.... ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The dangle works on more than just frogs. A weedless Ned or neko hung up in the bushes is almost a guaranteed big bite.
Good myfrnds cool..😍
Can you walk the dog with a swivel or should one always tie straight on with a frog? Thanks! Noob here learning knots too, so being able to quickly switch baits and try different things is helpful, unless it's hurting how I present my baits. If that's the case I guess I'll get real good at tying sooner than later 😂
tigerclaw277 its best to not use a swivel because it makes your frog do barrel roles
DO A BARREL ROLL!!
Is the frogs mostly for bass or can use it for catfish and striper
I don't know what it is about my pond, but if I keep the frog still for 10-20 seconds, out of nowhere, the fish just comes and eats the frog! Try this out on your favorite spot where you know there will be a fish, because tlfrogs do that! They naturally stay in one spot for a long time, and out of nowhere, the fish will come and grab it! If your day is slow on fish, use this technique for bass when their not biting fast retrieval frog lures.
I like to cut the left side a little shorter than the right and walk the dog pretty fast
Just had a debate with my fishing buddy! On which side to trim. You say the left side. Some say the right side some say trim both do to short strikes! I am really confused. I guess I will just fish a Whopper Plopper instead. Till someone gives me the answer! And Why they cut what side! Shawn
so like how much tassle do we need like an inch?
Adding rattles work well too
Got any smaller spots for people that don’t got a boat? I’m over here by Seattle.
I don't know of many spots up north! its tough to find places to fish without a boat!
Go to industrial parks. They have retention ponds everywhere to fish. Here in Anson, Indiana! There are at least 25 ponds in a five mile area. Give it a try! I caught 38 bass in 1 hr and 15 minutes this spring. Get it! Shawn
I've watched a lot of YT videos about the frog lures and anglers say to open the hook slightly and cut the tail shorter and give the fish a few seconds too swallow the frog🐸🎣
Do you use a loop knot or just tie it on
I like to add a couple of glass beads inside of the frog so it has some added noise to it.
How do you get the beads in?
@@jacobcrow2855 Just push them into the hole where the hooks come through. It takes a lil finessing, but they'll go.
@@jacobcrow2855 thats what she said
cspaugh 😂
cspaugh noice
Like the glasses, what kind are they?
💯🎣
'....lets get straight in to the video. Alright guys right before we jump in to the tips.....' lol
😂😂 that’s actually funny didn’t notice that
@@PNWBassin Thanks for the tips too. I bought a frog a while back and I like to throw cause it feels good but have yet to catch anything with it. Definitely going to try some of those tips on reeling it in
Good luck with them man! Let me know how you do!🎣
I put small bb’s in one and it made a little rattle BUT FYI it weighs it down
Am curious what pond you are fishing? Looks very familiar!
What brand sunglasses do you have?
Mantap 👍👍
I put a couple bb in the frog to make it have sound
switch up your retrieve, but majority of the time it's a 1-2..pause 1-2-3...pause 1-2..
always make a lot of noise right before a clear spot in the weeds and let it sit in the open for a few seconds.
I like to skip it near logs and pads what that it do us it gets there tension and then work it
I do not have good luck fishing with frogs I'm going to try your method and see what happens Bob's Elkhart Indiana
I'm having issues learning to walk a frog. Need help with the walking part lol
Frog fishing is the best.
I put a couple of bbs inside of it, it makes lots of noise, but dont put more than 4 because it might sink
Hey I know that lake!! There’s some giants in there!
Use the water trick in a bucket of scent. The fish seem to hold a little longer before you set the hook.
I fished a frog on my lake the other day and I had 3 big fish get off I guess I was setting the hook before the could eat it all the way
My problem is short strikes. not being patient enough. and it goes wising past my head. feel the tug first. LOL.
What brand are those sunglasses?
My go to mod on a frog is once I tie it on I’ll not catch a fish with it the entire time and I’ll put it back in my box for the 900th time this year. 😅
This comment is my life lmao
Fellow PNW Bass fisherman here. Always looking for more bass tips about fishing the PNW. I am getting to know a couple lakes and ponds here but there's so much the state of Oregon has to offer for bassing.
How would you fish frogs that are not popping frogs ?
Good video. It's nice to see someone your age make a fishing video and every other word isn't ummmmmmm. Keep making videos
I've been using frogs for 41yrs now and i tie it on right out of the pack and catch fish. I don't cut on it or bending hooks.
The way I see it,,,, if the fish ain't big enough to eat the whole frog why do u want to catch em😂 but if I realize the short strike it I trim them or get a trailer hook for frogs
What area are you out of in the PNW ?
I have 25 lbs test braid on my reel and I loose literally 2 pounders on top water. I set the hook rlly hard which I thought might be the problem. The line is snapping at the knot
Use at least 50-60lb braid
Use a lool knot. Easy to walk the frog.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact that bass tend to target the legs. Which can lead to missed hook sets. Another reason to trim them.
How many tournaments have you been in? How many pro tournaments have you won ?
Good video, but I have tried filling frogs with water before and it doesn’t always work with every brand and the condition of the frog also effects that (either used or new). Good video though , I just thought I’d give you and the other people a heads up.
Thanks so much for the input man! It’s good to know that some frog work differently! The more info the better right?
Totally!
