Torturing us iced over peeps with the 🐸 content... 😆 thanks a lot guys
I sincerely appreciate your videos! I have literally learned much on a variety of fishing topics. I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your valuable instructions and insights. Outstanding!
Frog fishing: The thing I suck at most, but have so much fun doing!!
Same here
Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve been trying to understand how to fish using a frog correctly, and this video is one that I learned so much from. I’m definitely adding this to my saved videos, for future reference!
Thanks for the knowledge Master Splinter...
Good straight forward presentation. Thanks
I’m so glad you posted a video on this.
I’ve been looking at starting to use a frog.
Such a fun way to catch them! Let me know if you have any questions 🍻
@@thehookuptackle_usa I bought a st croix legend elite medium heavy about a year ago. Recently I found your channel and have loved all the info. I have a tatula elite but have been eyeballing either the zillion or steez to replace the tatula. Any advice?
I could use that setup for jigs and maybe just purchase a whole frog setup?
I love this channel. The only suggestion that I have, is adding some lower budget rods and reels that will do the job well. I wish I could afford Steez and Orochi. I understand that you are giving us the BEST information, but we can’t always afford $800-$900 frog combos(or whatever style) and afford to buy anything else.
The baits are already stupid expensive themselves.😂
You live this as a lifestyle. 95% it’s a hobby that we wish we could put more time and resources into.
Booyah padcrasher and spro 65 are my favorites. Gonna try a jackall this year
Not a big googan fan but their mini and micro filthy frogs glide and walk super nice and have great hooks.
Great video, one of the best complete frog videos I have seen! Thanks
First off, congratulations on 10 years Hadecki. Second, they all look amazing. And third, all of the old schoolers know what's up with that material, so I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on some of them.
Hey good timing I was waiting for a video
Good morning! Thank you for watching! 🍻
Thanks for sharing my friend!
Great stuff as always, a ton of great info....lets see that Spro Wall of frog colors!!!!! Cheers
I just purchased two FMJ’s from you and with the hopes of one of them being my go to frog rod.
Did you guys throw any frogs on them last year?
Best thing I ever did for my frogging success was buying the Poker. So much power there that it basically hides any flaw in your technique for hook sets or getting them out of the cover
Great info....thanks brother!
Great content. Lots of good info on frog fishing techniques and tackle.
My go to is a Daiwa Tatula Elite Ish frog rod on a 13 fishing Concept C on 65lb Daiwa J braid. Good compromise between strength, castability, sensitivity, etc.
I manage a tackle store myself and one my observations about rods...I tell customers if you really want spend money on a rod I tell them a jig worm or high end spinning is where I would spend money (counting rocks)....the last few years I think a frog rods needs to be added...frogging a heavy rod will wear you out...its amazing how much it helps not just the wear tear to my shoulders but how much easier it is to walk the frog...my rods are the Expride 7'3"XH, 7'2"H and the Kage 7'4" ...great content👊
Haven't found a frog of any type other than the jackell kaera frog, all other frogs don't come close for me up here in Canada. Mind u I haven't used every frog on the market. But 40 years of frog fishing . Nothing I've tried yet comes even close too catching them like kaera 💯🇨🇦🐸for me
Agreed 👍
I've been waiting for this video. I'm about ready to sell all the frogs I bought.
What about the Valkyrie line of rods for frogs… curious what you think of any of these?!
7’1 heavy 7’2 heavy or 7’4 heavy +
I like the idea of the 7’4 and being able to also use it for A-rigs and smaller swimbaits, but is the taper to slow?
Ps- welcome back!
It would seem obvious but you might have mentioned that when you are doing your jerks you should be doing them on a slack line. As always this was another excellent video. The problem I have is how to bend the hooks out. Obviously too much and you will just snag yourself in the grass. Do you always bend them out or sometimes out and up. I suppose that would depend upon the frog you are using.
Absolutely depends on the frog. I almost never bend them out. If you use spro - you’ll want to bend them out.
Unless you’re using the Spro 65 flappin frog. The material is much softer than the normal spro frogs and it collapses twice as easily. No need to bend the hooks out on the spro flappin frog. I know there was issues with the weights falling out of these frogs but they’ve addressed and fixed this issue
I’ve been fishing frogs for 10 plus years more like 15 .. I’ve been through these struggles .. I have a series 1 or year 1 st croix legend tournament bass slop n frog rod .. my rod is 7 foot heavy fast full cork .. I can’t say if there is a better rod , as I only use my ltb frog rod .. I can say my ratio of landed fish to bite is trough the roof .. I personally believe it’s due to the rod action .. imo perfect ..
I love frog fishing!!! Bet Geoff thinks there too fun deep down
He does 😜🍻
I'm going to have to try the pinky thing. I do almost the exact opposite. I lay my index finger on the rod and twitch it to walk frogs.
Not to mention some frog have better hook up then others. R2S Bully Wa2 have better hookup than Spro Bronze-eye. Only mod for Bully Wa is trimming skirt while the Bronze-eye I trim skirt and bend hook out. Still very bad hook up.
Nice time to take a drink everytime Ben says “right”
I love drinking games! 😜🍻
3mins in and I’m out of a sixer of Orion 😂
@@thehookuptackle_usa ps I meant this with love!
I’ve had several days where the fish would explode violently on the frogs, sometimes coming completely out of the water, and totally miss the frog. Over and over, big fish just kept missing it. I wonder if slowing down my cadence or trying a different frog style or color might work in those situations. It’s so frustrating.
Hey Ben how do you like that new Zillion HD? Been on the fence but pretty sure I’m picking that one up!
I’ve talked to someone that just got it, and they love it. I’m definitely getting atleast 1, maybe 2 of them. I want one for my mark 56, since I’m using that rod specifically for lighter swimbaits and short accurate casting. Was also thinking of grabbing one for my frog rod/heavy top water
I just got one for smaller glides but haven’t fished it yet. It seems like it will be awesome. Liking the bigger handle and knobs.
I’ll say on the hook set I kinda found that happy medium where it’s like that 3/4 hookset not straight to the side and not straight up and down right in between the two I have found that has worked in most scenarios
Hey I have a black teckle sprinker frog with the solid black tail but I can't find solid black tails anywhere, do you have them or can you get them?
Gavacho is amazing. So easy to walk.
During the video you guys talked about the new p5’s coming in, griff mentioned the fmj would make a killer frog rod. What’s your opinion on that?
I asked the same question a few videos ago. I would like to know
I was told from Nick Couvis from the Chicago expo, that the BMG would be a awesome rod for heavy applications like swimbaits, frogs, etc.
Great Video👍
Most baitcasters have a max drag of 11lb. Is that enough for frog fishing? It seems light. My spinning reel is 6.1 with 22lb drag.
It should be enough but if you have it locked all the way down and hear it slipping during either fighting or hook sets you should get something more.
7'3" Heavy Diawa Rebellion or 7'1" heavy plus Zodias for frogging and small swimbaits?
Do you use a trailer hook anytime?
Waiting to feel the bass take the fish helps let you know when to set hook. You can even pull ever so lightly to see if the bass has it. Just light enough to feel a little resistance then jack it. Most of the time they don't spit it out because they are used to prey squirming and trying to escape their mouths.
Licking a toxic frog. That's the worst kind of mistake you can make with a Frog.
But the visions make it all worthwhile
Have you seen the video with the 🐒 and 🐸?
Puts new meaning in "Jerking" a frog
Or best
Thoughts on the destroyer valdivia paired with a 7:4 curado DC? 70# samurai braid
Great video! Liked and subbed
I lost a monster. Fresh braid. Snapped it. 30lbs.
Was told their mouth can act as sand paper and she braid.
I really shouldn't use a mono leader? I used steel leaders for awhile but they got roughed up from lily pads and had small sharp wires showing
Thoughts on line color for frog fishing???
I'm sure green is preferred . . . I have a bunch of white 65# spools . . . anyone seen any negatives fishing white braid?
No some of my favorite braid is seaguar smack down in stealth grey
What would your suggestion be for a rod to skip frogs under docks?
Why do all the different color frogs have basically the same white gray or black underbelly? The fish never see the top of the frog which is the colors that we’re buying.
Yeah the top really doesn’t matter i usually just pick something bright so I can see it better on long casts
In a pinch, could the Triza Dragoon throw a lighter frog like a Jackall Kaera? If not, is there a travel rod you would recommend for throwing a frog? Thanks!
I actually use the dragoon exclusively now for frogs after I picked it up as a travel option. Just make sure you use the fast tip!
Man I love the action on the Gavacho but I can’t get a hook set to save my life. I’m getting close to giving up on it.
Try the technique I listed here. It’s one of the best hook set/land ratio frogs I know of
Im not really sure what the problem is. I had alot of luck on the spro bladed frog last year too and i had good hookups even on smaller fish. A few times i thought i had one on the gavacho but after a couple seconds they spit it out. The only fish ive landed on it was a pike and i didnt hook it. The braid just wrapped arounds its jaw and got stuck. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that im in a kayak.
I have had great success on this frog but there are some that seem harder than others especially last years batch. Boil it or leave it on your dash for a couple days and you can bend the hook up just a litte as well to help. I miss less than 5% on them once I get em how I need em.
@@michaelanderson3359 nice, I’ll give that a try. I really want to keep using it because it walks so damn good.
I’ve missed so many fish on that frog. I continue to throw it over and over because it gets bit so well. Ended up changing the hooks on all of them to a EWG style and problem solved.
You guys forgot about the large scooper frog 🐸. That's the best frog with true action on the water.
Do you ever wait to feel the weight of the fish before hitting them?
Also when is the release of the new Orochi X10? Any word?
What kind of length/ action is the X10 gonna have? This is the first I've seen any mention of it
Damn your hair grows fast! 😁
Also if you suck at frog fishing . Ribbitz makes frogs that have great movement ,leg movement only problem they don’t last long one or 2 big fish forget it never works good anymore .
Just gotta tempt me with a new TS destroyer huh?
When fishing a frog, you would think to imitate the movement of a real frog instead of walking the frog lol.
Swamp lord is the best frog out there.
3rd Time watching, letting soak in👊
Do you ever worry about breaking the rod throwing braid that heavy?
I snapped some good rods not suitable for heavy cover. I like the dobyns rods there a bit stouter. Excellent frog rods
You will never break a rod that is fishing what it is rated for unless you have damaged it in advance. Dobyns makes some of the toughest rods, and according to many, including me, some of the best frog rods, 736, 766, 746 all are good.
@@morganyoder4277 Yeah, but I have yet to see a bass rod rated for 70-80lb braid, but maybe I'm wrong? Also I don't understand why some manufactures state thier rods for 10-17 mono, but then say or 30lb braid. I would think the braid would snap the rod first.
@@rhodesianhunter9360 I think they base it off of proportional line diameter. So 30 lb braid might have 10 lb mono diameter if that makes sense. All braids apply the exact same force onto the rod no matter what weight they are rated for because they are all inherently no stretch. The only thing that changes is the tensile strength and likelihood of the line snapping at whatever force applied which is why heavier line is important for thick cover since there is so much force going on. Nearly any rod is capable of taking the force of braid but it depends on your hookset mechanics. Snapping a hookset is much more likely to break a rod because the rod accelerates far more when not under load than when under load like you would when setting under tension. Also nearly every flipping rod or generic heavier rod can take a very powerful hookset because materials are such high quality. Like I said you will never break a rod capable of taking a hookset using braid like a flipping stick unless it is already damaged or torqued in a way that does not follow the action of the blank like high sticking.
U really don't need to let anyone no about that kaera frog. Shhh🙈🙉🙊
I like someone who talks frankly even with expletives. My kind of guy; and don't call you Shurley right?
PS I only threw a frog once with a surf-casting rod in a pasture pond. He hit it so hard I shit my pants.
Ive had some success fishing my finesse/popping frogs with a short mono leader. 65 to 30lb leader with FG knot, double SD jam, split ring to allow the baits to walk. It’s a plenty strong connection for monster saltwater fish and it’s plenty strong for bass. I think it has made a difference for me on pressured fisheries on clear water blue sky days
Uhh, no
smh its frozen in OR cant think of frogging :/
Ok a lot of good stuff . However you don't have to use high $frogs to be successful. I fish frogs only and between 5-6 days a week in between ice coming and going in NW PA. . I catch 5-6# bass on Trucend frogs in 3different sizes, Runcle frogs , and Booyahs regular and Jr podcrashers as well as some other less expensive frogs. I do not walk frogs as I fish very dense mats and pads. I would like to add to your "bow" to the frog on a hook set method. I think you may have left out a part that is extremely important while bowing ? Most likely because you just naturally do it while "bowing" . As you bow point the rod down at the fish and most importantly reel up twice before setting the hook. This will lead to the part about feeling the weight of the fish that someone asked about. The reason you don't want a fast hook set is that you are actually cracking the whip and forcing the fish mouth open instead of when the fish feels the pressure of the line tightening it will clamp down harder to prevent the bait from escaping which is a perfectly normal reaction. This will increase your hook up ratio better than buying a high priced frog and trying to walk it. Just sayn'. I did enjoy your video and references to high priced gear over all . My rods are heavy fast and x-heavy fast with Lew's 8:1 reels. But if you don't get an initial good hook set none of the gear really matters.
Still trying to find a way to get these damn fish to bite a frog through 12 inches of Ice. Auger and Chainsaw is out, will keep posted.
Any luck with ice froggin'? 😆
handle's brill have nothing bad to say and think i mite getting 9ft ugly stik to grate rod for a grate price ☺
I don't throw frogs. Weightless flukes work much better for me. Even more weedless and almost 100% hook up ratio. It does suck that they can't be cast out as far.
Liked video but, no mention of rod length...
I've lost a mondo before bc one of the two barbs went through a frog that was already in it's mouth. Just one of the million other ways to lose a fish on a frog.
Letting the frog sit for 15-20sec after it hits the water, draws a decent reaction bite. Just be ready 😎
SPRO makes the absolute worst frogs I’ve ever had. Close behind that would be the gavacho. The Jackall gavacho has great action great colors. However they are to hard they are okay once you bend those hooks way out!
How about googan frogs??
@@Daniel-mw2fe same bend the hooks and clip the legs
Buy live target frogs. Hands down best frogs on the market.
Ugly stik never breaks while a 200 rod breaks easily
Are you a fan of the boota frog
Frog fishing fo life…..

Going to try to help. I see 36 minutes…I’m out. Especially while scrolling and there is no b-roll. Can’t believe this can’t be 8-10 minutes or broken into shorter segments. There are a gazillion fishing videos. 36 minutes of you talking is not as appealing as demos done on the water.
Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? Right? 🤯
