- Fishing the $2 Ozark Trail 2.5" topwater frog from Walmart. This frog is a bargain compared to other brands but will it catch fish? How's the action? Does it even float? Lets tie it on, hop in the kayak, and find out!

You are the Bob Ross of fishing. Thanks for squeezing us all into your kayak and taking us with you.
I literally thought the same thing
I be watching his videos at night to fall asleep too, way too satisfying
Reading my mind
"Let's give that bass on the stringer a friend, because you know, everyone needs a friend."
a happy little fish
I am always astonished at how this fellow is always able to locate these fish and land one after the other. No fancy electronics or anything. Just sheer instinct and fisherman’s knowledge.
of course my good sir this angler is astonishing compared to others

The secret to all these youtube bass fishers who catch like 800 bass in a day is that they fish stocked lakes and ponds that only have private access. I don't even see the fun in that. I'd rather spend all day to catch one quality walleye or trout in a public lake or river.
Impressed with that little $2 frog. I love the comparison of the cheaper lures. Thank you again for sharing.
You dont need fancy expensive trinkets to catch big fish. Men have been catching fish with worms and handmade doo-dads for generations. #Zebco33alliance

I sadly lost mine today but that was because the line I was using on one of my small fishing rods was cheap.
I have to say that you are my absolute favorite fishing channel. You are always interesting and enjoyable to watch. No nonsense and nothing self promotional . You seem to truly appreciate your followers and your fishing experience and skills are unequaled. Always a great video.
I agree! Awesome content!

Absolutely, he’s awful humble and a damn good fisherman. I watch everything he drops the same day I get the notification. I check on my lunch at work everyday

This has quickly become my favorite fishing channel. Beautiful spots, no bs, and we get to watch a guy who has fantastic skills. No annoying soundtrack. Just a guy on the water living his best life.
At this point. After watching almost all of your videos, I believe whatever you threw at them, they will bite. Thanks for the video.
Facts they go for anything
😅🤣❗
He's like let me throw a duck for some toothy guys see what happens. Catches like 7 pike ina. Few hours. On a duck 😂😂 i
@@alexwhite176 pike will bite almost any lure
@@eaqx That's true they will bite almost anything that moves. When they are biting tho, that's the catch. He seems to find the active fish consistently.
You're such a good fisherman, you could probably tie your key chain to the end of your line and catch fish.
No kidding!
The cost of a lure has little to nothing to do with its ability to attract a strike. When I was probably 8 years my brother and I went through a lot of lures. Combine that with the ability for young fishermen to lose lures at an incredible rate. My father refused to buy more lures and insisted my brother and I earn money cleaning neighborhood cars, mowing lawns etc. But we learned from magazines and TV about ways to make our lures. So we resorted to making lures from tea spoons and other items we found at the local dump. You’d be surprised how many fish we caught from junk not to mention the pride of doing it on your own. Even NDyakangler went out with a painted cork, sent in by a fan and caught plenty of smallies with it. 90% of all fish caught are the results of desperately hungry fish, not a lures price tag.

Same! It's wild to watch my 4yo catching fish already, and always handy to know what works that isn't expensive! We love the wacky worm in Minnesota, too!💕
I've always wondered about these good to know for the money you can't beat it and it hurts alot less when you lose a $2 lure compared to a $14. Also can't beat the yum bargain bin at Walmart always finding good stuff in those

@@yummygogolak scum frogs are totally different and where I live they're like $5-7 the one I bought didn't even walk and it's not cause I don't know how to walk a frog they're just not made the same as a regular walking frog I wasn't impressed
Impressed with the casting accuracy. Well done!
Dude must have a terminator eye that zero's in on the spot with crosshairs and everything.
Time and repetition. Like a golfer that knows the difference between swinging a 1 iron or 3 iron at 180 yards (I have no idea if those clubs/distances are really a thing, so chill!) Or a quarterback throwing 15 or 25 yards. Set up a few targets in an open grassy field and throw a 1/2 lb sinker at them.
Not just the accuracy but the distance too! I am constantly amazed by how far his casts carry the lure. But what really blows me away is his dexterity in getting those lures out of the fish. When I think of how many hooks I've man-handled out of fish over the years at great injury to the fish and/or my fingers he seems an absolute magician. - Dan
Me and my son have bought a lot of ozark trail lures. We’ve tested them out compared to name brand and performance was pretty close. Super impressed actually. And thanks again for rocking out these awesome videos.
Great video once again. That’s awesome that $2 frog held up that well . Definitely my favorite RUclips channel and my favorite kind of fishing. Thanks for taking us along
You are like Bob Ross, only instead of paint, you fish. Never stop doing what you do. It's soothing to the soul
I have never had a problem with Ozark Trail lures. I caught the 23 pound grass carp in my profile pic with an Ozark Trail popper. Love your videos, keep 'em coming!
Thanks for putting yourself through all the torture and pain of lure testing. Great vid.
Got a tip for ya. I use the same knot. Wet your line before you snich down your knot. I put the knot in my mouth and use my saliva to wet my line. Then I snich it. A dry line builds up friction and weakens your knot.
Thank you for a wonderful morning. If I can't go fishing today it's always nice to watch you go fishing.
Come on man, I’ve seen you catch Megas with a Lego Chewbacca, of course YOU catch fish with it! 😂🤣
Keep slaying man! 🤙🏻
I just tied that knot...absolutely impressive mechanical advantage is deployed using it. The way it bites down onto the hook without also applying pressure to the knot itself is so utterly genius. Tie it on something like a wide rubber band and watch it work.
It's a great knot! Most of the time when I end up breaking a lure off it looks like the line broke above the knot.
I always watch a video of yours before bed. Very relaxing and such a joy watching you fish. Thank you..
I love the calm demeanor. You’re like the Bob Ross of fishing☺️
Love these vids, watching from London England. Looks so calm and peaceful there... I'm sure it's a nice way to spend a few hours even if you never saw a fish the whole time you were on the lake.
I been watching your videos for about 3 years now. I really enjoy them. keep up the good work. And it just goes to show you don’t need a big experience boat to catch fish. I fish off my 10 foot jon boat. And I do pretty good. Cheers bud 👍
I’ve had good luck with these as well, just open the hook gap up a tad, like you mention, like almost all the frogs available and it’ll increase your catch percentage.
I love your content! This frog definitely catches fish! Just learned a new knot! Thanks!

Actually got a couple of them last time i was in the US, works very well on perch, pike and brown trout here in Norway
First time listener/viewer here. You have a great radio voice. Perfect for your excellent and useful videos. I will be coming back for more.

Just bought a fishing kayak about a week ago after watching your videos for some time. Went out for the first time yesterday on a small lake, and looks like we both had a good day yesterday catching some largies :) Sadly wasn't getting any topwater action aside from a few nibbles, but they were really interested in the jig with a lil craw trailer on it. Keep up the good videos!
That's what I'm trying tomorrow, I got a jig set with a craw trailer too!

I’m loving watching your wal mart version comparisons. It’s nice to know which baits are worth paying more for and those we can save a ton on
Awesome video, keep it up!!

Absolutely beautiful sunset.

Enjoy your channel. You are the Bob Ross of fishing.........you're positive, good head on your shoulders, or so it seems, and an amazingly soothing voice over to listen to. Keep up the good work.
“This fish I caught needs a friend. Let me catch him one.”- NDYakAngler (the Bob Ross of fishing)
Keep the Walmart bait videos coming! Love seeing that I don’t always have to go to BPS and spend the same as my mortgage on 3 baits.
Great video Matt. Appreciate the everyday fisherman bait trials. Although I could probably afford plenty of $10 plus baits I gravitate to that mostly for discontinued colors and baits. I catch plenty of fish on the bargain range lures and haven't had any fish complaints lol. Some are certainly better than others and may require hook upgrades but they catch fish. Thanks for taking us along brother.
What an amazing life it must be to fish the places you fish!!! If you ever start offering guided tours I’ll be the first signing up!! 💯
Proof you don't need to spend a lot of money for fishing gear. But what you do need to do is go where the fish are.... You need to know how and where to look for them.
That's the exact same knot as I have been using all my life to tie swivels on the line and lures just like you my friend. My father taught me this knot when I was a kid. Amazing how half way across the world you are using the same knot. Thanks for the vids Jeremy Downunder
Your always fishing in such clear water....I love it
Great work as always @NDYakAngler. I love the content and the consistacy. #1 on RUclips.
I found similar frogs at a dollar store here in ontario, and they have had a much better hookup ratio for me compared to some of the namebrand ones.
I bought one of these yesterday at Walmart....inflation hits, I had to pay $3...LOL. It's eyes fell off as I took it out of the package, but I glued them back on with UV activated glue. Looking forward to trying it out soon. The hook is definitely sharp! The brand name frogs were up to $9 each, so it's a pretty good deal for the money and at that price, if you snag and lose it.....oh well.
Dude I can watch these videos all day... So relaxing! 🤘🏼
Thanks man, that was great fun!
Like your videos keep on the good work 👍
I truly believe that it's not what you tie on the line but what you send down the line that gets the bites and you, Matt, are a master communicator! Can't wait for your next kayak adventure!!!
A pleasant afternoon of fishing, picturesque as always!
Yesterday I went to Walmart and I bought me this $2 frog and now I'm watching your video on this exact frog love it. The other day I commented on one other video of yours that I ran across and I fell in love with it and I became a subscriber. I said that your voice reminds me of Bob Ross it's so peaceful and this means a lot to me, Sir your fishing channel on RUclips has hit home to me and let me explain why. I'm 63 years old I've been a fishermen all of my life and I mainly love fishing at lakes and rivers for the tranquility of being outside in nature while fishing. But two years ago I lost the Love of my life my wife of 32 years to cancer. And the depression monster hit me very hard and I'm just trying to make a slow come back and I'm thinking of hitting the waters again. And Sir your peaceful voice the beauty of the locations where you are fishing at has encouraged me to go out fishing once again, I know it will be difficult because many of my fishing trips my wife would go with me and fish alongside me. But now I'm going to do it to try and get my life back, and I just wanted to tell you Sir that your videos and your peaceful voice are doing much more then just teaching how to fish or how your fishing trips are for you. From one fishing angler to another thank you so much.
Of course it will! I use a single blade spinner bait from Walmart. Cost me $1.50 and has caught countless bass for me!
In a Walking Dead scenario, I know who the fish guy is gonna be. Great video as always! 👌🎣
Love the content man! Keep up the work!
I just started back into fishing after a long absence. Your style is very relaxing. Tightlines friend.
It’s great how you review some of the cheaper brands of tackle, because a lot of those lures, rods, reels etc., are so grossly overpriced and we’re just paying for the name - like Shimano and Rapala etc., when there are so many out there that are just as good and half the price. 👍
This one was a winner in my book! I've had a couple people comment they leak water but mine seemed to keep it out as good or better than the live target frog. Who knows, maybe it was their first time frog fishing and they didn't realize you have to occasionally squeeze them out lol. For 1.94 I'd assume quality control might not be the greatest though so maybe I just got lucky and got a good one but I was really impressed with it! I grabbed a couple of the yellow ones too so maybe I'll have to give one of them a try if the bass are still hitting frogs and see if the performance is consistent.
Fishing is sometimes about outsmarting a fish, we throw out things that look like food to catch one. Running a business is about outsmarting consumers, they throw out the promise of more catches to get our money.
@@ndyakangler I suggest, that you test your knots for strenght. The one you tied here, but with only 4 turns, I have experienced 100% line strength with with a certain line. That is NOT good, because you risk the line breaking far from the lure, if you get a bottom hook, or if you hook a huge fish, and it might swim around with a long piece of line hanging, that even could snag something, and it would die from it - if things went really unlucky. I used to do all kinds of tests, to not leave anything to luck or guessing, and that made the rest of my fishing more relaxed. Best way to test knots, if identical hooks in both ends, and pull till one of them breaks. Also test different hooks - wire diameter also means something. To measure breaking strength, I used a bucket and filled with water, till the break, and then weighed the bucket. I don't have the energy to do videos, so feel free to use my input, if you like.
A lot of times it's not about "price". Although sometimes, it is. But not in this case. That $2.00 Frog was amazing!
Great video as usual Matt. What's the name of the lake you were on here?
I have the gym and a full work day ahead of me, But* I will always make time for your new videos and some coffee. Such a great way to start the day. Keep it up man 🤙
Somthing so soothing about watching your videos....didnt know I loved fishing THIS much lol
I've used the same frog before, I put it in boiling water go soften the plastic, caught many fish with it
Good idea👍 Thanks!
Saw one guy leave them on his truck's dash for a few days and did the same trick. Tomatoe potatoe.
I have never caught anything on a frog lure
Back in the day Gander Mountain used to have a big bargain bin at the front of the store. I scored lots of great lures for relatively cheap, still have some of them, years later.
That is a kick ass frog for $2! You can't beat it especially with how expensive fishing is these days. You know I always love your videos!!
Dude, you’ve got a sick fishery and definitely a way with fish. I’m sure you could catch fish throwing just a hook.
Heck, I bet you could catch fish throwing plain line out.
He’s caught fish with a Lego Chewbacca and a hook.
Hey sorry for the dislikes, I'm watching on my phone and fat fingered it trying to see the rest of your comment.
Hahahaha 🤣
@@SPFLDAngler this is true. That video was ridiculous lol. Idk how he does it. The fish must be paid actors 😆
Well it’s Minnesota so yah.
HELLO FROM RUSSIA
Great video! I like that little frog! I have been thinking about getting one but now I am convinced! Beautiful scenery as the sun was sitting!
Your videos are so much more enjoyable than the shows on tv these days. All they do is video fish with forward facing sonar. That is not even fishing.
Some of those TV shows are better than others but a lot of them are too much like a 30 minute commercial for whatever gear their sponsors are selling.
I’ve been fishing for over 10 years and I’ve never seen anyone catch a fish on a frog except on RUclips. Amazing!
All day all night.. there isn't a dull moment watching your episodes!!!!! I'm literally HOOKED!
Man you have a very calming and soothing voice… you should tell stories also. Great job
I just got two of these lures yesterday. This is encouraging to see
Another great video, thanks for showing us the value of a $2 frog.
What a beautiful fishery, beautiful day, and awesome video. Much appreciated hombre
I luckily found this exact frog lure. Can’t wait to try it out.!!!
What an incredible afternoon. Greetings from
Lake Murray SC. Frog fishing is the best!
I think it's a combination of his voice and overall demeanor but I love these videos, lakes are super nice and bassy too. As far as the baits good, it's all a money grab, the fish dont know how expensive the rod and reel we have or how much the lure was, its usually technique that catches em. Keep up the good work 💪
Yes, and the hooks are larger compared to the body, so you get a better hook up rate. The only problem is there is a poor weight distribution so the lure flips to it's back alot when pulling it over lillies.
This frog definitely gets bit! I started frog fishing 3 years ago and this frog was 94 cents at my Walmart. I love how it's easy to walk, yeah the eyes fall off very quickly. The legs will eventually fall but I gotten like 15 fish for one frog until no legs. It floats perfectly horizontally unlike other more expensive frogs that then to sit more vertically with the back legs.
Right On!!! Great video. I love those frogs from Walmart. I like to trim the flairs off set and widen out the hooks for a better bite.
Awesome Action video! Keep’em coming.
A+ all the way around, again. I'm glad I subscribed. I like the comparisons, Frog and Plopper. Do more please!.
After watching you catch fish with a lego Chewbacca, I knew this would be easy for ya. You have convinced me that catching fish is more about lure presentation and casting accuracy then it is about the lure itself.
I am absolutely impressed with your 2 dollar frog 🐸 heck of a day on the lake!
You make it look easy. Good job 👍
Bob Ross of the fishing channels. Love your videos man
