Agreed
i agree 100 %
This dudes the man for sure. Absolutely makes me happy seeing his videos.
I enjoy not hearing “ ALRIGHT GUYS TODAY WERE GONNA BE DOING THIS TODAY AND TODAY THE LAKE IS SO GREAT TODAY SO TODAY WERE GONNA BE YADAYADA!!”
By far
Genuinely impressed with that carp on 6 lb.
i got 33 pounder on 7 lb line 70g rod here in Europe, if you play fish corectly with softer rod its normal to land them.
@@rnik8156 ewwww Europe
@@christopherselden3941😊
i got a 75 pound stingray on 20lb braid
One thing about that 6 lb, one little abrasion or nick and you're losing that fish. Even 15 lb I used to fish with, if a smallie got down into the rocks, I was toast.
that carp was a genuine surprise lol, i remember my mom taking me out fishing when i was like 12-13, she was bass fishing and i was just sitting in the back of the boat bobber fishing for bluegill/crappie/perch and all of a sudden the drag started screaming, it ended up being a 22lb common carp that i fought for over 40 minutes on an ultra light with 4lb line, i STILL have a picture of it on my nintendo DS a whole 10 years later, honestly one of my best memories
Try to transfer it onto an SD card, then onto something else. Don't wanna end up losing that some day.
I have a similar memory. I was 10 or so, fishing off the dock just looking for bluegill or whatever and a carp grabbed my kiddie fishing kit. Hook, worm, and bobber I think. Dragged that sucker to the dock and it gave one last thrash right as Dad was getting the net in the water. Snapped the line, took the hook with him. I was bummed about it for a week, I wanted that fish lol.
Your videos sometimes bring back old memories! A little over 50 years ago my wife and I used to go to her folks' house for Sunday dinner, and after dinner I'd wade-fish the Tioughnioga River (upstate NY) behind their house for smallies and panfish. I was fishing a Panther Martin spinner on an ultralight with 4 lb test mono, and was catching lots of rock bass, smallies, and shiners, when on one cast retrieve stopped like I'd snagged on a big rock. Not a rock, but a 15 lb carp that had inhaled that spinner! I used to run with the drag set really light, and that fish just ran me back and forth in the short stretch of water he had to swim in, until he got tired and I managed to kick him out of the water onto a gravel bar in mid-stream. He had the spinner way back in his throat, but I managed to get it back, then kicked him back into the water. FIrst time I ever caught a carp on an artificial lure.
I'm 81 now, and she and I still like to go fishing - I'm going to be fishing on the St Lawrence for a few days this week, land using a bunch of the things you've shown us on these videos! Thanks for putting out a quality production! We really appreciate it!
Sounds like an amazing memory. God bless you and your wife and family brother 🙏 ❤️ 😊
amazing catch that feeling when its not a snag is the best!
old timer fishing stories are the best
you are the Bob Ross of fishing videos
I love how minimal you are with taking takle our on your kayak. Really sets you apart from a lot of anglers, myself included. I'm trying to cut down on the amount of stuff I bring and just enjoy the water and nature. Great video as always!
That's why it helps to have consistent spots where you don't have to move a lot to catch fish, bridges and points and coves can be really good places for that depending on time of year. I always carry like 3 tackle boxes with me and bring worms sometimes but still need to fill up the fourth box in my tackle bag.
I have a hard enough time with just fitting all the beer into the kayak. I just take a tiny box with a couple beetle spins. Jig heads, and soft plastic bodies.
@@buddyrevelle736 lol beer gotta bring lots of water to beer will give you heat stroke in the summer
Despite poor floats that wm kit is still a good deal.
Lol 3 or 4 lures tops, you ain’t living out there
I’m a simple man. I see a 7 lb carp landed on 6 lb flouro, I subscribe.
Talked me into it
Thank you for not screaming "lets go" everytime you catch a fish.
i dont understand why people get so upset about being excited
Same can't stand it when people follow a trend or a "trendy phrase"
@@avery1429probably because it’s not genuine. Who gets excited over every little fish they catch 😂
@@nnnjh8372who doesn't? I don't think you like fishing anymore, man.
Yea I am not a big fan of the pool pond people lol
Pretty much totally new to fishing. I was only ever really knew fishing as “stand in one spot casting for hours and hope something bites eventually” I really enjoy your understanding of where to go to catch what fish you want.
That's really the key, reading the water and what you want to catch is often the difference. Fish aren't just "out there" randomly.
There is an old saying that 80% of the fish is in 20% of the water.
That’s what they say and it’s been true for me on the water. I’ll add to that by saying you can measure yourself as an angler by how consistently you find the 20% of the water with 80% of fish and how well you fish the 80% of the water that only has 20% of the fish. That whole thing about “they weren’t biting that day” stops making sense when you look at it like that. Sure, you weren’t catching fish but if you had a pro angler in your boat at the same time fishing the same water as you, do you think they’ll get skunked? Will Bill Dance in his prime get skunked?
You may like wading small rivers and creeks. Go up stream and look for deeper spots, current breaks, or pools after ripples/rapids.
The "stand in one spot" fishing is more accessible to more people. If you've got a kayak though then it gets a bit more fun.
I love this little Walmart mini-series. Would love to see more cheap or value lure series
Those oz trail frogs are awesome.
Don't you remember Mr Twister? They made a cheap lizard and a cheap phenom worm that worked fairly well. Their grubs, curly tails and just about the rest were crap
I watch your videos to get away, I love the sound your paddle makes when it hits the water. Let us all keep in mind we are still so lucky to be able to have freedom to go about and fish as we please. God bless you all.
Well, as long as we pay up that is
@@f1rebreather123I mean I pay 25 dollars to dnr for my annual hunting and fishing license, and they send it to me like a credit card 🤷🏻♂️ I mean pay 25 dollars do all the hunting and fishing you want 🤷🏻♂️
@@f1rebreather123where do you have to pay to fish? We have limits on the amount we can catch so DNR can get you that way, but fishing is free here as long as you are on a public lake.
@@matthewgraham7002 yeah, it's 25 for a fishing license, a $10 habitat stamp, and then since most accessible water is in a state park I have to pay for the state park pass. So for me it's around $80 annually to fish unfortunately. Also to get a physical card it costs $5 extra, otherwise it's just a paper cutout.
@@ellencox8415 most states have a license that you need to fish.
For a while there I thought maybe Ozark misprinted their label, and actually meant it to say:
Carpie Fishing Kit. 🤣
Thanks for sharing this spring day with us. 🎣😎👍🏼
Asian carpie kit!
Not many youtubers left like you sir, hats off. No swearing, no yelling, just good clean content with bonus family values.
Enjoyed the sounds of spring. Thank you for taking us along.
looks like a lot of fun for $5.
My favorite small bobbers like these are the Thill fish’n foam floats, weighted. They are solid foam and will never leak. Got mine from Walmart.
Those are the way to go for that type of bobber. I’m a little surprised they didn’t put foam ones in the kit, I’d think they’d be cheaper to make.
@@ndyakangler I have a theory that those red and white ones actually haven't been made in years. I think they made about a billion in 1965 and we are just working down the stockpile. They are probably just about free.
I am new to fishing.. And I see nothing wrong with those.. They work pretty well in rivers and creeks
@@William1911I can’t explain how much this simple thought has blown my mind 🤣🤣 it makes so much sense Great theory👌🏼
I just absolutely love that when he catches a big fish, he doesn't scream like an idiot like other fishing channels
How dare someone be excited
As you were playing the two carp I was struck with the fond memories of one of my lifelong friends with who was born blind. He was a person blessed with a positive outlook (his pun) on everything. Through the years he always told me his tennis game was weak but he could fish with all our gang and everything he caught was whatever we were targeting 😅. He could fillet like Samurai. Thanks for taking me along.
Not sure why I feel obligated to comment again but life’s just been a bit difficult lately and his videos along with Richard gene the fishing machine have helped me out MAJORLY. This is a genuine creator man. ❤️ tight lines all. God bless.
God bless you
The Ozark Trail stuff is decent for the price. Ready for that first smallmouth trip of the season !
Man I'm trying to get some carp and bass on the fly in the next couple of weekends
I've had a lot of success with some of the cheap "Cotton Cordell" brand crank baits they sell at Walmart. I've caught many large and small mouth bass on them. And at less than $3 each they're a great bargain compared to the higher priced name brands.
I caught almost my pb with a cotton cordell crankbait in red craw color man. For the price they are amazing!@@Chet_777
I just started fishing on my own at 33 yrs old. I have been on 3 trips on my own and not caught a single weed, but this channel keeps my hopes up makes not wanna quit just yet. Thank you SirYaki
That's great. Keep watching to learn more tips and look up fishing videos from the area you're from.
keep it up unc
Catching Carp on soft plastics is a technique used quite a lot in Australia. They use a light-slow falling presentation to sight fish them-kind of like how you'd present a fly to try not to spook the target fish.
Fly fishing for them is a thing too, I've made bread flies when I was younger that worked
Relaxing day on the water putting the Ozark Trail Carpie kit to the test. Also not a fan of plastic floats. But all things considered not bad for 5 bucks. Thanks for taking us along Matt. Blessings brother
FYI I believe one name I've heard for that pink and green is the electric chicken. Groovy
Thank you for reviewing these kits, so we don’t have to do it at our own expense and frustration. It’s nice to see there is some degree of quality to them.
I don't crappie fish much but had time to get out in MN this spring before the opener. I had NO idea what I was doing. This quick video filled in a couple gaps for me -- thank you! I'll be ready for next spring :)
I don’t think I mentioned it in this video but those little bays I was fishing in were connected to a good size lake. That’s generally what I’ll look for in an early spring crappie lake, ones that have small bays that will warm up fast and get those fish moving in and active.
Those two beautiful carp on a plastic lure would have made many people's day, mine included. As always, an enjoyable video.
Monday 4:30PM with a cup of coffee watching you fish. The RUclips algorithm was correct. I loved your video. The Carp at the beginning was beautiful. In some countries, it is a traditional Christmas meal.
Catching a carp on plastic, especially crappie/panfish presentation is INSANE SIR.
HOLY CRAPOLA!!! I AM IMPRESSED!
You mean holee CARPola!"😂
Crappie is all I fish for, I really enjoyed this video…shows you don’t need expensive and the best gear to catch crappie. $5 Walmart kit can fill the stringer! Great vid!
I mainly fish crappie/bluegill too. I’d rather 10 fish in an hour compared to 1 or 2 bass if I’m lucky
@@lrakwons9799 - I love to crappie fish not only because their fun but they taste amazing! Yum yum!
Great background noise. Redwing blackbird ❤ in the rushes 😊
One of my favorite sounds in the midwest
If nothing else you have to appreciate the fight when hooked up with a carp. They are a fun fight every time.
6 pound line vs carp. It's cool watching these type of fights. Guys now with all the heavy braid just haul as hard as they can and it's almost zero fight
Carp! A great drag tester. It's wierd what a carp will sometimes pickup. Nice crappies too. Thanks for sharing.
If its small enough theyll at least taste test it
Those carp were gorgeous. I love catching carp on light tackle . Its a crazy experience. Hope that thing made your day.
I've been worried for ya over the last couple of weeks. I'm glad to see that you're doing good and more fishing content! 💯
The rivers were flooded and the lakes were covered in ice so there wasn’t a whole lot of fishing to do here for a few weeks.
Ha! I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I was working a crappie magnet and a huge bedding carp sucked it right up. So much fun!
06.30 Lovely looking common carp.
Tight lines😊👍
My wife says that once the ice thaws, she loses her husband for six months. It's pretty hard to stay off the water when the fishing is good. Pike are heating up here in western ND. Tight lines.
Maybe you should invite her to go with. Some women are pretty good anglers when they get into it.
@@michealcarver2474 she fishes some, just not as wild about it as I am lol
Hey man I want to say thank for all of your content I’ve purchased a good majority of my fishing tackle based off of your content. I caught some crappies on the mimic minnow you used in a video awhile ago
Thanks for bringing us along today man, great day!
One of my nephews caught a 4lb black crappie in a private pond in Virginia. Found out later that the state record was 4lb 6oz at the time. Crappie is a good eating fish!! Love your videos!! Watch them all!
That’s a monster crappie!
i live in Tennessee and it's been good fishing this spring season gearing up for hotter weather now since we get summer a lot earlier :)
I love some carp fishing. They fight like predator fish.
Called a Crappie Kit but caught a giant Carp. Impressive Walmart.
36 minutes of awesome fishing, hell yeah i'm ready!
Another great episode. Thanks. The sound of the red winged blackbirds in the rushes is one of my favorites. Stay safe.
Thanks, Matt, for a wonderful day of crappie and unintentional carp fishing! Anxiously awaiting your next video!
Hell YA, just poured my coffee and seen you posted a new video. Waiting to see you in your new rig. It's a game changer when you don't have to mess with the paddle
If the weather is decent tomorrow I’m going to try the Hobie!
When I can’t go fishing, I watch your videos. Even the ones I already watched. I really enjoy your channel! Keep up the great content. From Texas 🤙
My dad taught us kids, that the best crappie, are caught under an over hanging limbs and trees. I've never caught crappie on a lake. Just bass and pike, and such. Also, we use to keep the carp and smoke them with Applewood. Lots of bones, but good eating.
Downed trees and weed beds are where I've had the most success.
“It’s feeling kinda carpy” LOL I guess you can use the kayaks up north but in the south we have gators. We had a man that was chased a couple of months ago. Love the show bro!
Went kayaking for the first time with my friend on a couple sitting inside kayaks at rodman reservoir and had a gator go within about 5 ft of me if I remember I think he went underneath me and on the way home and other one was cruising between me and my friend we just try to share the same water no problem
Its all part of it, gators, bull sharks, big hammerheads, all part of the excitement of kayak fishing.
Sometimes, it is good to hook a fish, that will test your line. Sharpens your fish fighting abilities. Those are some nice size Carp. The funny part is, if you were fishing for Carp, you would catch, nothing but Crappie or other fish. lol! They say, that the wind pushes bait-fish up against the shore, hence you catching fish, along the shore, the wind is blowing towards. The knot on that package, is the same knot I use for all my tying. Very strong. Just make sure to wet the knot before you pull it tight. Reduces heat friction on the line, as you pull it tight.
Love listening to all the background noises. Love your videos
I appreciate the dedication you put into your videos, be relaxing thank you! Keep on reelin em in!
Great video. Thanks. Got hurt on the job a few weeks back and haven't been able to go fishing this spring yet. So I enjoy good videos like this, thanks!!!! 🙂
Your videos are my therapy. Excellent video as always!
You are the best fish man on RUclips, you didn’t say too much fancy stuff but your technique is very practical.
I don’t know why, but you had me cracking up in the introduction when describing the Great Value Crappie Kit😂
No, he said CRAPPIE, not CRAPPY.
Matt are you fishing for crappie or carppies? Wow I was surprised you got it in. 😂 stay safe
Matt is dyslexic - lol
Fantastic video, keep them coming. In a month we will be making our annual 22 hour drive up there to fish! Your videos help us make it through the 11 months between our trips up there. 🎣
I always go bass fishing after watching him and today I caught a 3pound largemouth😊
That 6lb test can be deceptively strong occasionally. My dad landed a pretty big snapping turtle with it once. The line was all warped and stretched out by the end of it, but he managed to get it in. The size of that carp reminded me of that, lol.
Man those carp put up one heck of a fight huh
I buy the trout kit it has hellgermites works everywhere I got baby bluegill to a 6 Pound large Mouth Bass
i love fishing especially crappie fishing and catfishing
Good see ya back on the water! Looking forward to your summer of fishing!
Yes!!! Nice video for a Saturday cheers!
From Ontario Canada
Howdy everyone!
Nice touch on handling fish! You wet your measuring stick before putting the fish on it, very respectful. You haven't thrown a fish in, you release them slowly. I like your attitude towards nature. Great video!
Still my favourite fishing channel on this platform. Matt, you are a great angler, videographer and am"bass"ador of the sport. Thank you for all of it.
don't forget to Like and Sub, you won't find any better.
Beer battered carp! Only 12.99 lb at Wal-Mart! Good job landing that beast. We bow-hunt for them here in Ohio!
Best fisherman to watch on RUclips for sure. If just looking to relax and unwind to great fishing.
Nice carp. Nice crappie. Great to see you on the water again Matt. A guy I see at times fishing for bass in Colorado has called you the Mr. Rogers of the upper Midwest angling scene! I gotta say you have a calming effect on me even when things don’t go perfect for you on the water. I like that. I think you are a great influence on catch and release and catch and keep fishing. I can’t catch carp on purpose, I always get them trying for smallmouth bass.
From MN, I got introduced to your videos now have a kayak 2nd year with it, still getting comfortable in it awesome content
Well sir that makes me want to give my kayak a drink. Lot s of fun, thanks.
I catch the crap out of trout in the winter time, because I can't catch bass, so because I freeze up here that black and pink twin tail you pulled out is a go-to for me with rainbow trout
Best way to start a day.
My go-to tactic for early spring crappie while bank fishing ponds and smaller lakes here in CT is flipping a weightless Mr. Crappie Lightning Shad around as I do little twitches just beneath the surface and reel very slowly. Often times I end up seeing the flash of a crappie coming up and swiping at it or grabbing it.
Caught a crappie last evening from the bank on a weightless 3” senko 1/0 ewg Texas rig on my super pressured local lake, couldn’t believe it, green pumpkin of course
I fished a lake adjacent to a Provincial Park in southern Ontario for a week each year for over 20 years. I was snorkeling one afternoon when I noticed dozens of Crappie about 15' down in the weeds right off our cabin. So I took a 4' trout rod out there with me and proceeded to catch about 10 of them before I got tired. I used little jig heads and 1" - 2" plastic minnows and grubs. Some days they wouldn't bite for anything. Other times they were jumping on the bait instantly. Some of them were huge too... like dinner plates! Once I mistakenly hooked a 25" pike... it darn near spooled my reel but I eventually got control of it and after swimming in to the beach I actually landed it; on 6lb Stren Magnathin line. I enjoy your channel very much; I watch everything you post!
My favorite fisherman on any format. I love your muskie videos as I have yet to actually land a muskie lol. Thank you for making your videos
Had a huge slab on once it was fighting hard but I had my drag set too high. It came off and I reeled in my jig with the "lips" still on the hook. Guess that's where they get the name papermouth.
Those big carp are fun to catch…. We used to catch them on the chemung river in south-western NY state
Now you know when your buddy wants to eat carp to go crappie fishing
Good job you've inspired me to try kayak fishing enjoy your videos keep them coming and God bless
As seen on TV! Submarine Bobbers !
So excited to get out bass and pike fishing again!
That it was awesome and calming to watch, no luck here in Idaho with crappie fishing lately 😅
Always trying something new! Awesome.
Carp!!! That was sweet. They fight awesome. Thanks for a great show as always.
The Fallfish in my area will inhale virtually anything that is thrown in front of them. The carp reminded me of this little tidbit. Thank you for the awesome videos! Tight lines!! 😎🎣
Man I love this guy's videos, they're so relaxing
You’re like the Bob Ross of fishing. Catching those carp are just happy little accidents.
I've used foam slip bobber I bought from Amazon. The small cylinder shaped bobbers that are really good. Reasonably priced.
meanwhile in europe we invest hundreds of dollars in baits and rigs to catch a few carp and you are catching with a 5 dollar jigghead. i would love to live in north america just for the fishing. great video !
Walmarts new $5 "Carpie" kit... I'd buy that. Carp are super fun to catch...
I caught a smaller carp on 4lb test on a maribou crappie jig once. One heck of a fight!
Easily the best fishing RUclipsr.. so calm and nice to watch
When i was young, i used to fish quite often. Most of my equipment is broken and i don't know anything about even setting up a rod anymore. I'd love a series that just shows the basics up to actually getting out on the water. I'll be subbing in hopes i can learn
That is crazy kitchen cart on on the crappie jigs that is just crazy that's when you say holy moly
