  • Rip you very much, Buddies! For this latest 'sode on Vinyl Community Podcasts, I'm joined by a great resource in the VC, and that is Patrick aka pbthal. More recently known as The Vinyl Archivist, Patrick is a fixture in the community, running multiple livestreams each week on his channel. We jump into learning about his start on RUclips, within the Vinyl Community, and the beginnings of his record collection. Additionally, Patrick is well known in and outside the community for his process in finding, ripping, and storing the best sounding recordings on vinyl. What started at the end of the first decade in Patrick converting analog recordings to a digital database has earned him high praise and standing in the "ripper" community. We get into that, what his process and approach to ripping albums looks like, and how that impacts the titles on wax he chases to this day. Throw in some "lighting round" questions to close out this chat, and we have the makings of another winner here on Vinyl Community Podcasts! Enjoy!

Patrick talks how he learns from people, but I personally have learned to appreciate quite a few bands directly from him.

Another great interview, Chance! He really knows his stuff. Great to learn from guys like him. He’s spot on about the hustle! In the early 2000s I would get to select estate sales at 3:00am and park in front to be first in line. I bought the entire record collection at a Watts California estate sale in 2006. I got there hours before anyone else. Through the front window I could see a bunch of Blue Notes titles and great RnB and Soul titles, hundreds upon hundreds of records. When the guy running the estate sale got there I offered him 1k for all the records in the house. He jumped on it. It was a major score for me. The early bird 🦅. . .

Great video with Patrick. His efforts to help Bobby when his scooter was stolen said a lot about the man. Good job, Concert Buddie. Good job Patrick.

Appreciate the kind words, thanks! I know Patrick got a little bit of a hard time from some about the scooter deal, but I contributed to the effort because he was leading it. I don't know Bobby at all, but trust Patrick's judgment.

Great interview. I had no idea Patrick, the vinyl archivist, pbthal, etc were the same guy, until somewhat recently. Kind of a legendary dude.. Been a big fan of his work for many years now, if ya know what I mean. Big ups to him, doing the lord's work. ;-) ✊
