Oh for sure, no doubt I watched that movie 30+ times growing up. Every time I saw my older brother (who didn't live with me), he'd be like "wanna watch Breakfast Club?" Good times :)
@@JoeBuck207 no it isn't, this is considered more iconic cos its what's known as a bottle episode in TV where the whole movie takes place within the confines of one location over the course of one single day featuring characters representing five major social groups of both school society and in some ways society in general and the story arc of them beginning by having zero in common as they are forced to convene and finishing by them having bonded as friends in their own ways. It's a very simple story, very focused and straightforward with a clear story arc and hence it gets remembered the most. Sixteen Candles is a fairly generic teen romance drama more or less and thus less noteworthy.
So I met Anthony about 15 years ago at a convention. He signed my 'Breakfast Club' DVD and I told him it's my dream to get it fully signed one day. He looked at me and said, "Well, how about four out of five?" I was like, "Huh?" and he asked, "Did you see the Oscars tribute to John Hughes? Did you notice ONE of us was NOT THERE?" It was then that I understood that I'd be lucky to get four of the five. I wish Emilio would get off his high horse, be a little more humble and appreciate his fans more.
Interesting you would bring that up but I think if there's an actor that could be a seamless substitute for each other, it would bet these two. It's arguable who had the bigger career as the laundry list of movies John has done aren't really high profile but he has worked more than Judd, either by choice or popularity in the course to public opinion.
also no one could in anyway couple up john bender and ally sheedys character if it was john and joan cusack, i love the main couples but i know some fans prefer that too. and if they were both played by siblings i'd never even want that as a couple even if the characters weren't related, but also i agree judd was perfect for the role
PREACH Sparky!! I LOVED John Hughes films BECAUSE… Yes, they were basically “Young Adult” books that they made into movies instead of books. His movies DID NOT ASSUME the watcher was some idiot kid, but a YOUNG ADULT! That we were Adults in Training, still learning about life, how relationships work, the beginnings of REAL responsibilities to come and that we were THINKING and LEARNING part of society! And the movies coming out of Hollywood now are just GARBAGE! I miss John Hughes and his stories…
Best time to be a teen - we had a constant guidebook for navigating our emotions thanks to John Hughes and these wonderful people. I wouldn't trade being a teen in the 80's for anything.
I've met them all in the past and the only one who was very impersonal was Molly Ringwald. She was humorless...I dont know if she was having a bad day or what but she was not mean exactly but she wasn't nice and seemed a bit preachy and kind of full of herself. It was awkward. I remember when she left several people who met her all said the same thing...everyone was like "Ok..that woman seriously needs a little laughter in her life" I hope she was just having a bad day...hate to think she is that way all the time

You can do whatever in your power to convince others of who you are but at the end of the day people will see you how they want to see you. Therefore don't bother trying to convince anyone, just be you and live your life to the fullest!
I remember that last line, but you know I never really payed that close attention to it! It is a great line! “A jock, a criminal, a basket case, a princess (or was it Prom Queen?), and a brain!”
I’ve seen the movie several times and that line is amazing, but I just watched it again about a week ago and I really listened to that line again as an older adult now it has even more meaning now!
John Hughes was such a genius, truly one of the all-time great comedy writer/directors, if not the greatest. I thought he was so funny as a child actor, I use to wonder why he didn’t do more comedies as an adult, and I get it that actors may not want to be type cast, but he was so funny in those days!

Very cool of them to do this... Such an iconic movie that means so much to so many of us that grew up in the 80's... It's still one of my all time favorite soundtracks!!
When my son was about 20 I showed him The Breakfast Club. He didnt really say much about it whether he liked it or not, didn't say either way. Then fast forward about a couple of years and we are in a store and happen across a Breakfast Club Tshirt that he to this day at age 25 still wears. So Im guessing he liked this movie as much as the rest of us 80's kids do! Made me proud that my son has such good taste!
yes it does , because I was the Aly of my high school . I am 62 and watching this movie made me realize that everyone has a story. I went to my 10 year reunion and only about 5 of the cheerleaders and Claire's attended. All the rest of us had a great time and without the stigma anymore.
As a born and raised Chicagoan only a few years younger than these folks.. this was amazing. We lost John way too soon. I would love to have seen more of his work. RIP Mr .Hughes
I caught bits and pieces of this movie through the years (my parents loved it because it was their generation. They had me really young. My mom was 14 and my dad was 16 when I was born), but never seen the entire movie until about a year ago. I can see why it was such a hit with generation x and even some of the older millennials. We can all relate to those strange years in between 10th and 12th grade where we're not sure who we are or maybe not even which crowd we should run with. Everyone is telling you what you should be doing and all you want to do is hang out with your friends and have a good time. But man does it fly by. Before you know it you're almost 40 and realize why all of those folks were so interested in your life choices. They envied you.
Yeah I tried asking Ally and Michael about what song they shot the dancer number to. They didn't remember but Judd did. He said it was One Step Behind by Madness.
What’s unique about The Breakfast Club is as a viewer you likely felt a direct connection to one character but you also connected in part to every single character.
Yes, that was my biggest takeaway I think because you at least knew each of those characters or encountered them in school! It was a brilliant film about each stereotype as being venerable when confronted with the truth!
Much to my surprise, I felt a deep connection to the Claire character. After many years of agonizing, I’m proud to say I’m now fully transitioned and changed my name from Clarence to Claire. I’m just totally living my best life! Thank you Molly Ringwald!
I was born in 1983. I was lucky enough to make it all the way through highschool without a cellphone. Although they were in existence, none of us had them. They weren't widespread yet. None of us grew up with them. I am so grateful for that. As far as "The Breakfast Club" is concerned, My mom showed it to me when I was 15, and has always been a favorite in our family.❤
Maybe I'm an exception to the rule, but I graduated college in 2001 without having a cell phone....and nobody at my high school carried a cell phone before then
LOVE the Breakfast Club !!! Love the song, "Don't You Forget about Me" ( My son is in an 80's band in Pennsylvania, they end every gig with that song💜).
Judd Nelson had the best "behind the scenes" info on the making of the film. Fascinating recollection and paying homage to John Hughes was very classy of him.
I was in a group home as a "tween" and one of our rewards for good behavior was to be able to watch The Breakfast Club. I was hooked from the first watch. There weren't people who look like me but the raw portions helped me thrive. ❤❤❤
That was really fun to watch. We're celebrating our 40th highschool reunion this fall so we're all pretty big fans of this movie. I loved that movie!!!!! I ran into Judd Nelson at The Aurora Mall (Aurora Colorado) just after Saint Elmo's Fire... Weird right? He was HUGE and here he is walking through a mall with someone else (security guard maybe?)....I said to him "You're Judd Nelson!" and he responded "Well yes I am...." and that was it! We smiled and went on our way. No phones then, but I'll never forget this mega movie star walking through the mall.
When Molly Ringwald mentions that Rick Moranis was originally the janitor in Breakfast club, then Hughes went with actor John Kapelos, who ended up being the janitor we see in the movie, Anthony Michael Hall interjects that John Kapelos was also in 16 candles, where Kapelos played Molly's older sister's husband "Rudy" in 16 candles, it should also be noted John Kapelos was also in yet another Hughes movie, "Weird Science", where Kapelos played "Dino" the Greek" in the scene in Weird Science where "Gary" gets drunk and sings the blues the night Lisa took him and Wyatt out to "Kandy Bar" where Dino is the owner.
I don't know how or when, but I did know that the janitor was also the trashy soon to be husband of Mollys characters sister. He was very good for a small role, real sleezy.
Oh man....I really can't stop smiling. It's soo good to see them all again. This was fantastic and I would have watched 3 hours or more of this. One of my all time favorite movies and what a great cast. I actually graduated high school in 85 and this movie resonated so well with me and my friends. Just so on point!!
I taught English at a public high school in 2016 to 2017. I let my juniors (born in 2000) watch The Breakfast Club on the day before a holiday break. They loved it. They were really into Judd Nelson's character (Bender) lol.
80's rocked❤Molly Ringwald keeps Interrupting Judd Nelson and correcting him. Thank God for Anthony Michael Hall for comedy relief. There's definitely a little Claire in Molly Ringwald 😅 Shelley was very much like her character. She's kind of quiet. I was hoping she'd speak more.
Anthony Michael Hall and Judd Nelson still look absolutely amazing after almost 40 years!! They have definitely aged gracefully and will probably still look awesome in another 40 years!
This movie became a ritual amongst my friends and I. Every Saturday night after the bar closed, we would head over to a buddy's house, continue to drink and watch this movie. We watched so often we all knew all the lines and would recite them while watching. To change things up, we decided to have each of us draw a character name from a hat and we would act out that character. Yes we were idiots, but we had fun.
I can’t believe what you said. Unreal. Wow. Let me explain- there was a period, spanning several months, if not a cold season or two, (around 1991? 92? I think) where some 6-7-8 of my people would gather in my friend’s and girl friend’s apartment every Monday night, just to watch the movie. But not just watch the movie. We’d (loosely) play a “game” to see who could recite all the dialogue as it goes. Meanwhile, we’d be drinking or doing shots or something. I think the drinking was barely tied in as penalties to the game. It was casual, not childish. So! To read your comment really f’n floored me!! But I guess it’s really totally possible we weren’t the only ones to socialize in this way about the movie. It’s just, it never occurred to me until I read your comment. Thank you, friend.
This panel is awesome. Loved this movie. Saw it when it came out, loved it then, love it still. Saw 16 candles the year before. Classic teen movies for the 80s. We just needed Emilio for this .
This was my teenage movie. Gen X.....It appealed to everyone. I have watched it over the years at various points in my life and it still takes me back. The genius of it is that no matter who you were in high school at that time, you identified with one or all of the characters. I feel glad we had that time, and I feel sad for those kids today that don't know that time.
At least once in my life, I'd love to go to Steel Comic Con. Being able to watch this in the comfort of my home is amazing and thank you!! The 80s were my childhood ❤️
I met Molly in Santa Monica on 3rd street when she was filming Pretty in Pink. She was sitting on one of those director type chairs. She was so sweet. We are the same age. I shook her hand and got her autograph. Wish I still had it 39ish years later. I saw The Breakfast Club in the theater. Loved it.
March 24 2024 my buddies and I had a John Hughes reunion movie marathon starting with Breakfast Club..We came from the 80s ..We came out of the best decade ever

I remember the first time I saw The Breakfast Club was Starz or HBO back in like 1998, and the first thing I thought was "Awesome! There's Coach Bombay from The Mighty Ducks!" Both Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy look AMAZING! They have aged REALLY well. 😊❤️ And I LOVE that someone brought up New Jack City!

How come I missed this? This movie was important not only for teens in the USA but worldwide. I was a teen living in a tiny city close to the Paraguay and Brasil border when I watched this movie for the first time. It changed my world completely. Love this.
John Hughes was a genius filmmaker. It's no exaggeration that his films are in part responsible for who I became as an adult. The influence of his movies was (and I hope still is for next generations) vast.
This brought back memories. I was a metal head and never admitted to my friends that i loved this movie. I remember being enlightened by the film. Simply knowing someone's story changes your perception. You understand them better.
Loved this movie because it touched so many teens lives in the 80's. It's timeless still today. Loved seeing these actors on Psych. They are frozen in time but glad to see they can come out and talk highly about this experience.
This was my era and these were my people growing up. John Hughes was absolutely amazing in his story telling and his ability to be in touch with youth culture back then. 16 candles, breakfast club. True classics.
This is great! It feels like I'm watching friends I grew up with. Such great memories of The Breakfast Club & all of John Hugh's movies. The 80's were a wonderful time to be a teenager. I have many good memories of that decade. Seems like things have gotten way more crazier over the last 40 years.
Did you know? Ally's proudest part of the film is the David Bowie quote.. That quote was her idea. She suggested it to John but she didn't know it was in the movie until she watched it..
“And these children that you spit on As they try to change their worlds Are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through.” Changes - David Bowie@@hobowithawaterpistol9070

That’s great! I’ll bet it was a fun event!
Was great in fandango
@@kriszellers9718I’m so glad someone mentioned Fandango! He was so good and the ending saying goodbye friend is very surreal.
Judd's a great storyteller.
I agree! I liked his jokes and subtle sarcasm
He looks better when he has Michael next to him acting obnoxiously.
Anthony was hilarious and Judd has a fantastic memory!
And Emilio was in a different dimension, but still there in spirit.
Yeah I tried asking Ally and Michael about what song they shot the dancer number to. They didn't remember but Judd did. He said it was One Step Behind by Madness.
@@HarveyBacktheBeatles One Step Beyond
I could listen to Judd Nelson's stories, memories and observations all day.
A perfect movie. One of the few just flawless movies. Hughes is a genius and everyone in the cast was perfection. Forever a classic
I remembered growing up that not knowing the punchline to John Benders joke used to naw at me every time I would watch the movie!
My wife and I met for the first time at The Breakfast Club - still together!
What’s unique about The Breakfast Club is as a viewer you likely felt a direct connection to one character but you also connected in part to every single character.
I could personally relate to all of them except Molly Ringwalds character. I knew people in high school that were like her so I could relate to all.
That's the genius of this movie. Most of us are not one of these characters, but a little bit of two or three or more. Hughes was a visionary.
So thankful to have been a teen entirely throughout the 80’s…because we were the last decade without cell phones!!!
Payphones, house phones were the 80s.
Maybe I'm an exception to the rule, but I graduated college in 2001 without having a cell phone....and nobody at my high school carried a cell phone before then
40 years ago...and STILL a great movie today...😊Loved the 80s...❤
I MISS THE 80S BEAM ME BACK 🎥🍿
The years before cellphones

Yep, class of 88 here. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Thank you! RIP John Hughes.
LOVE the Breakfast Club !!!
Love the song, "Don't You Forget about Me" ( My son is in an 80's band in Pennsylvania, they end every gig with that song💜).
Oh that is so cool!! I’m a singer as well and that sounds so fun ❤and I’m from Pennsylvania:)
My favorite song from the best time (summer 1985) of my life.
@@thenightporter me too!!!
Many thanks to Judd, Anthony, Ally, Molly and everyone involved with both the panel and the video! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow that should be exciting!
Wow about meeting him that’s so cool!!!! I love him lol
The line “She’s into Malaka’s Dino.” That scene was a riot!!!
@@Atomykpimp Lmao, I love that line

That was so awesome.

I taught English at a public high school in 2016 to 2017. I let my juniors (born in 2000) watch The Breakfast Club on the day before a holiday break. They loved it. They were really into Judd Nelson's character (Bender) lol.
I was 15 years old...memories. The 1980's were the best time of my life. The greatest decade of the 20th century..IMHO
No one is Bender but Judd. This is one of those movies that I watch again and again. Thanx guys!
He was gorgeous!
I wanted to hear more from Ally Sheedy. Her role started an entire genre of style that can still be seen in today’s generation.
Alison was def EMO long before it was a thing. That was the character I most identified with. Ally is brilliant.
Truth!
There were plenty of those types around already at the time.
This was one of the greatest panels I've ever seen. Of course, I've seen the movie 300+ times and it can never get old. NEVER!
Ally, not Shelley
My thoughts exactly
Ally in Wargames and Judd in New Jack City are two of my favorite performances.
"Amongst my friends and I"? Learn proper grammar before writing again.
@@BenRabinowitz-1 Thank you Grammar Nazi
I see a movie in the making from just these few comments.
One of my fav movie of all times♥ Thanks to all of you!

I'm 56 & My High School Life is a Combination of The Breakfast Club & Dazed & Confused.

Loved it.
They had such great chemistry then...and now. Love them all!
I still find Ally Sheedy to be adorable.
