The 80's had a lot of great movies. When watching them, it takes me back in time and then realize that it was 40 years ago. My senior year back in 84". one of our teachers had said after you graduate, time is going to fly, and boy has it. Glad I had the pleasure to experience it.
Class of 1984. Can strongly relate to this movie, The Breakfast Club. High school was scary, exciting, uncertain, fitting in, friends, discovery, sports, and everything rolled into a span of four years. It's only when we get reminders, like " Breakfast Club" that we stop and wonder how did all the years go by so fast. The cast played a roll in my high school years and will continue to be a fond memory.
went, saw it in a theatre about five times, in 1985. Still, is in my all-time top five faves. I, wholly, identified, with Anthony Michael Hall's character and, loved his portrayal, of it. The whole cast was superb. I, even, enjoyed Paul Gleason's character! I, believe, however, he had it in, for Judd Nelson's 'Bender.'
I'm 80 years old and this is my favorite movie. There is just something about it but I can't for the life of me say why. I think it has a lot to do with the characters and the actors who played them. Each actor was perfectly suited for their role and they played their parts to perfection. Thanks for the update on them. 😊
There are some movies so iconic, have such great writing, and casting. Breakfast Club IS one of those Iconic movies! It's as great now as it was then. Every cast member was perfect. Emilio Estevez is one of the most underrated actors. His performances are always worth watching. Even his corny movies. I recently bought Maximum Overdrive. Great classic Steven King flick. Men at Work with his brother Charlie Sheen, goofy but good. But his role as Billy the Kid in Young Guns I & II are my favorites. The list goes on. They were all amazing actors and actresses. Molly Ringwald was the perfect princess, and so freaking beautiful! Ally Sheedy, perfect emo chick. And Judd Nelson aka, John Bender, the burnout. This movie nailed every single mark of perfection. And it still does! I actually forgot Anthony Michael Hall, the "nerd", the "🧠brain🧠", again perfectly casted. Anthony was in another epic movie I loved Weird Science. Those were some great years and some iconic movies!
It's amazing to think that a 26 yr. Old ( Judd Nelson), plays a kid still in high school. The only ones that were of that age, were Anthony Hall and Molly Ringwald!
I watched this every morning before going to school in middle school. One of my favorite movies. It was in the 80s. I was 12 and 13. 7th and 8th grades
Whoever thought that may've been referring to how different Anthony Michael Hall looks. He and the others don't look any older than they are now. Ally Sheedy looks good for her age. Molly Ringwald seems to have aged the least. And Emilio Estevez sort of looks like Michael Douglas now.
They couldn't b that good lookin in their 60 's . I think itz a mixture of special effects , a.i. , goin under the knife & well placed camera angles....!!!!$$$$$
I have to confess something..... in the 80s I recorded this movie on to cassette tape and listened to it at night or while doing homework. I believe I did the same thing for Ferris Bueller.... lol, I was basically making my own audio books but instead with movies.
I think time has been great for all of them! They all look great! Yes, they look their ages. I think that's good. It's not a shame to be older. RIP Paul Gleason, he was awesome in everything.
I went to see this twice when it came out, and several times after. Fell in love with Molly. She's only 2 years older than me. Maybe there is still a chance 😆 Always wished Judd Nelson did more films.
Don’t know why the title says “time has not been kind” I’m the same age as Judd and he looks great, they all do, Molly is gorgeous. Thanks for the vid, movie is a classic. Fun facts for those who don’t know much about the movie’s background. Ronald Reagan was the first choice to play Vernon, but a meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev conflicted with the shooting schedule and he could not accept the role. In Reagan’s autobiography, An American Life, he calls this “The biggest regret of my life.” Harvey Keitel was the next pick, but after reading the script he told John Hughes that he’d only play the role if he could dress in the same clothes he wore in “Taxi Driver.” So Paul Gleason, son of Jackie Gleason, won the role. During shooting he improvised the movie’s most famous line, “Yo Sal, how come there ain’t no brothers up on the wall?” The role Anthony Michael Hall played was originally written for a chimpanzee. Eric Stolz was originally cast as Bender, then halfway through filming John Hughes realized he wasn’t menacing enough and fired him. But you can still see glimpses of Stolz in the movie. That is his head between Molly Ringwald’s knees. And Hughes wanted Justine Bateman as the Claire character, but Gary David Goldberg would not give her the time off needed to film the movie. Filming was delayed for six months because of a typhoon. Emilio Estevez suffered a heart attack right before shooting began, also delaying the shooting schedule. The five students were originally supposed to serve their detention in the school cafeteria, locked into the walk-in refrigerator, but then producers were worried that children would try to copy the movie and lock themselves into their refrigerators at home, then suffocate. The exterior scenes were shot at a suburban high school right outside of Chicago, but the library scenes were filmed at the Princeton University library, which is mostly underground and that’s why you see no windows in the movie’s library. Harvard University refused permission to film the dance scene there, so it was done at Oxford in England. Judd Nelson went undercover as a high school student at a local high school because seven years after graduating from a high school in Maine he had no memory of what high school was like, and found he liked it so much that he stayed at that high school after filming and four years later graduated as their Valedictorian. No one at that school ever realized he was an actor and not a student, even though he had been in three movies before “The Breakfast Club.”
This movie was ridiculous. In real life, you put kids of these different backgrounds in a room you know what they will do? Absolutely nothing. They will ignore each other until detention is over. They will walk out and go back to their own worlds.
That’s why this is a movie and not a documentary on real-life high school detention. It’s a “fantasy.” However, I have been in a few real-life situations with another person or persons where otherwise in other environments I wouldn’t interact with them but if I happened to be around them for whatever reason I got the talking to them and for awhile at least formed a “friendship” with them if all we had was each other in that current situation if you will.
I know it sounds weird, but this and The Godfather are my two favorite movies. I particularly like the ending when their parents pick them up after detention. It is just so normal. Like The Godfather, it's about family.
