Joshua Jackson don't think it was intentional, I think he just figured "this is my only card, I guess this is the only play I can make" and played the forest not thinking of the plains he played. It's not ok, but shit happens sometimes. On the other hand, extra land isn't cheating if you somehow convince your opponent that it's legal and he backs you up when the judge asks... :P
Without Svi saying it was a mistake and losing his poker face, I would have thought that the judge-call was a bluff to make Martin think death is checked, and scoop on swing. If you're worried about losing anyway, might as well make a bluff.
I am surprised at not knowing how Sultai Flayer works during the alpha strike first strike. It's just an uncommon card and KTK has been in play for months.
GloryGodification There's no way Martin could've gotten around Sandblast. Cast Immense first and Zvi responds with Sandblast. Just cast Awaken and Zvi lets it go through for "just" 10 damage. He didn't get greedy.
Jonatan Salling Hvass He needed the creature to be bounced leaving 0 toughness. Main phase and he just gets blocked with enough toughness to not be lethal
Tim Kap That's not it, Bond-kin has 1 toughness, would still have been lethal over. He didn't play main phase because then Zwi would have blocked in such a way that it's not lethal. The best way to do it is to cast Awaken the Bear and hope Zwi decides he doesn't want to take 10, kill the thing in response so you can then respond with Become Immense. There was no definite way around the sand blast, but he could have kept one card in hand for later.
This is honestly the only game of MTG I have ever literally cried watching. My heart goes out to Martin Muller. If I was in his seat I would be tearing cards at how lucky his "hall of famer" opponent for god sake was against him. (Perfect timing of Sabretooth to his 5th land, and a perfect gift in Sandblast to save lethal all to name but a few). As I have played competitively at a very low level I feel like I know how I would have reacted in that situation, and for him to keep his cool and peak playing level was mesmerising. This quite possibly one of Martin's first televised chances to show his mettle against one of the giants of the game. The third game where he beautifully outclassed Zwi with the block to counter the argument Zwi had convinced himself of was the cherry on top and a beautiful way to seal such a magical performance. It may have just been a game of MTG but in it were all the morals that you NEVER give up, always try your best, and play to the final "whistle". Absolutely fantastic!
Either play is hoping Zvi doesn't understand the full combo. Playing Become Immense first doesn't give trample, meaning clearly he has some source of trample on its way, and Zvi should kill it in response. Awaken the Bear gives trample, but doesn't pump out of Sandblast range, and doesn't make for anywhere near lethal damage, so Zvi reserves Sandblast unless more happens. If Martin pumps pre-combat, then Zvi does more than just a chump & bounce. The best Martin could have done is Become Immense first, wait to resolve, Zvi Sandblasts, and Martin gets to keep Awaken the Bear. Same result, except Martin saves Awaken the Bear, and still loses. All assuming Martin knew what Zvi had, and did everything in his power to play around it. So really, it didn't matter, but yes, generally you should pick one and wait for it to resolve first before playing the other.
One of the highlights of the coverage, awesome games.
Most exciting games of limited I've ever seen. All 3 games were awesome. I am definitely trying to draft this Muller deck next time I'm at my LGS...
So... a limited combo deck? man, that is AWESOME
One of the best limited games I have seen.
8:25 Svi plays 2 lands. plains before combat then a forest after playing the bond-kin after returning it with the saber
Classic double explore.
ZOOOOMG single explore?
stoneman289 Two explores.
Good catch!

This match was insane!
There a decklist for Muller's deck? That combo is cool.
This is draft. I doubt decklists are available.
cleedow
I was hoping they'd come out now that the draft portion is over.
saw this live. damn, i'd be so on tilt if i was zvi.

WHy isn't there more drafts online from Fate of Reforged? i only see round 11?
that was so synced taking away the cards at 19:47
But, zvi didn't go to one blocker; he went to two. Martin's Savage Pinch simply got rid of one.

if I was playing for thousands of dollars I also would ask lol
BECOME IMMENSE!!!!
How did the sandblast kill? Didnt become immense resolve?
In respone to become immense, He got greedy and threw them down at same time instead of playing one and responing after sandblast.

Robin Runesson He could have cast them mainphase

21:46 It wouldn't be a trade, the Manifest has first strike because of the Bond-Kin
If a 3/3 first strike and a 2/2 first strike fight, the 3/3 wins. Double strike only works if you live to the second strike step.
They said 3/2 first strike trading with 2/2 double strike, presumably they were referring to the bondkin
I think they were referring to the 3/3 Manifest trading with the 2/2 double striker
Idk why does the rageform manifest die if it has +6 +6

this games...so nice.
What sweet games
Muller looks just like the Beibs.
12:24 I assume he should have tried to resolve become immense first?
I would say the awaken the bear first. Zvi wouldn't have done anything if it was just a +6/+6, it didn't have trample.

Did every game just get punted?
