Engineering student and super interested in the whole scanning and drafting process after seeing what Rob Dahm's done with his 4 rotor using scanning. Swapped cayman/boxter is going to be insane - k-swap the world.
I feel like rotating the engine forward another 10-15 degrees, making new mounts, or finding some Gangsta Lean ones that work will give lots of room and better axle angles. A custom manifold could ride over the top of the trans, to put the turbo close to the driver's side intake (more custom parts to make and sell there, after the kit). I guess the other option is to come out the back, since there's so much Porsche transmission vacancy, but the charge pipes might wind up pretty long. Most big power K series have VERY short hot and cold plumbing. It looks like there are a million different packaging options in that big weird engine bay. It should be fun to experiment with different options if you have a 3D scan. Chris from B is for Build has had a lot of success modeling that way. Good for finding interferences, and for playing with 'long shot' fittings, that if it fits it might be epic, but it probably won't so there's no reason to try to fab it up. Regardless, Nick please take us through the process! Also, don't be afraid to tack various bits of metal to everything when bolted up, then cut off everything but the pick up points of the car and the engine. Get that old subframe out of your way; don't let it limit you!
I would brace this sub frame from the other side temporarily then cut the sub frame brace on the engine side for the clearance. Then later incorporate the engine mounts with the sub frame.
If I didn't live on the other side of Canada....it would be fun to bring my '07 Base for your Dyno tests.. It's definitely not a power machine, but it's zippy! Haha
Loving the build so far But one quick question, from a Genesis coupe owner: what the hell is in that gen coupe to need those drag radials on it? Looks like a empty exhaust hole in the rear bumper on the left, so either no exhaust yet or is it still the 2.0t? Thing looks scary
What impact will it have running the Honda gearbox? I do y know a great deal about Honda stuff other then the k series is considered a great engine but so it’s the gearbox that is on the cayman. The ratios been setup the way they are work well and obv top speed is nigh on 180mph standard but the gearbox feels great and is pretty strong. Asking as I’m around the engine rebuild time frame so I weighing up all of my options
Great question - I am personally more excited about this project then my K997 because we are using the Honda gearbox - The Honda gearbox will suit the K Series better then the Porsche unit, the Honda gear ratios just suit the power delivery better. There are many oem versions to choose from and they are plenty strong for a reasonable amount of power. Additionally there is almost an endless amount of aftermarket support for the Honda gearbox - I honestly dont think people will be disappointed going this route

Like you’ve mentioned the k series engine is so much cheaper, O can get them easily for £3/400 over here which the 3.4 m97 is like 6-8k I’m looking at 10-15k for a rebuild, 7k for twin turbo setup and then management so it seems appealing to potentially get near the 6-700bhp I’d like under the cost but have more reliability. Only downside is things I’ve already got for my cayman such as lsd, lightweight flywheel etc
Have you considered an ECU Master unit? Im considering going that route. The mechanic doing my swap recommended it but i dont have any background on it. He seems to love using them for all his K-series cars.
Would another engine gearbox combo be a better idea given all the work like say using a inline 5/6 cylinder? I really like the 2.5tfsi daza engine I’m just not educated in the area enough to know which would be best taking factors like piece, weight and parts available into account.
any updates on the white turbo 8th gen? I'm planning to do almost the same exact setup with a similar turbo. can I get away with keeping the stock maf sensor at 10 psi so I wont be tempted to turn it up?
And just Looking at the setup it looks exactly like My Swapped Mr2 you can run a E153 LSD Mr2 Tranny Hux racing makes an Adapter plate Flywheel Combo The E153 Can handle a metric crap ton of power :D
Ive updated my plan since the video - All the engine wiring will go directly to the ECU, but there are 2 original plugs that still need that ECU jumper/adapter
