  • This video is on how to use your hands for striking understanding that you are not wrapped and taped and striking like you would in boxing and MMA will break your hands. I speak from personal experience having broken my hands more than once on the street. It is important to train like this or you will go back to what you practice. You will fight like you train don't forget that when you practice.

EXCELLENT! I have had arguments with boxers who just can't understand why I am a proponent for a more vertical punching style. This explains everything. Great job.

Thank you Ben. Breaking my hands more than once on someone's head was motivation to find out how people who were not wrapped and taped, and usually with gloves on, fought.

Good advice for tall guys. :) I'm pretty small and it's unlikely a guy would duck under my punch, though it could catch an arm or a knee wrong like you demonstrated. Great video as always

Something I've gleamed from watching videos on bareknuckle, is using punches in a more surgical form. Still putting power into them, but focusing on accuracy and alignment so I transmit the force safely. Additionally, using slaps, palms, hammers with them , as setups or finishers.

The slap protects the knuckles, and wrists, if landed well can do some real damage, and most men absolutely hate being slapped, it is a ding to their ego, and one of the quickest ways to get them out of their own game plan.

Great video. I would be interested in more detail about your recommendations for hooking and slapping motions.

I will probably do 20 videos in this series and will go over other methods of striking etc. after we build a proper base. Leaving things out in the beginning comes back to haunt even those professionals at the highest level of sport. Here we are looking at the possibility of greater consequence that losing in a sport so we want to make sure we build the best possible fundamentals.

I will look for it. If I can't find it I will do another video on it in January at the Nami ryu seminar in Philadelphia.

Even if i think you are right on this..i hurt my Hand myself so i know. Its nearly impossible for me to Switch that muscle memory that i got from boxing and try something else under high Stress. I think i would literally had to stop boxing and train dor self defense only but maybe thats just me.
