    GREAT VIDEO WITH STEP BY STEP EXPLANATIONS. I USED THE SHAFT WITH THE CHECK BALL INSTEAD OF THE ROD, WHEN I REBUILD MY T-5 YEARS BACK. THE SHAFT WITH THE CHECK BALL IS STRONGER, AS OPPOSED TO THE ROD WHICH IS DRILLED DEEPER INTO THE SHAFT WEAKENING IT. AN EXAMPLE OF HOW DRILLED HOLES WEAKEN THINGS. ON THE EARLY FORD 289ci ENGINES, THE CONNECTING RODS HAD SMALL OIL SPIT HOLES DRILLED INTO THEM ON THE CONNECTING ROD WHERE IT BOLTED TO THE CRANK. IN RACING APPLICATIONS THEY WERE NEVER USED BECAUSE THAT VERY TINY HOLE WEAKENED THE ROD BY 100HP. MY ADVICE IS TO USE THE BALL DRILL SHAFT FOR HIGH HORSE POWER CARS.

    For clamping a shaft, screw together two pieces of oak or hard plastic like composite decking with a 1/4 inch spacer in between and drill a hole ~ 1/16 smaller than the shaft, centered on the spacer. When you unscrew it and drop out the spacer you have a perfect cushion for clamping the shaft in the vice. If it slips, put one layer of electrical tap on the shaft.

    great videos man. I'm going to try and tackle the t5 for the first time while watching this. I noticed the rebuild kit on your website, ill order that one. However does it come with the needle bearings?
    Also if 1st gear or 3rd gear is trash where do i find new gears at?

    Hey Tony. Have used this video a few times. Great stuff. My latest rebuild has spring and ball on the main shaft, on the hub, under the 1-2 reverse slider. Is this required? Slider seems much smoother without it. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

    What about changing the 5th gear ratio to an 80 or 82 ratio. Can you do that? Or know someone who has?

    • @JunkyardDoggs
      @JunkyardDoggs  5 лет назад

      Yes i can. Ive done it twice before it requires that you install the gear AFTER the main shaft has been installed into the case.

    When you're talking about horsepower range, standard vs higher horsepower, what ranges do you mean? Would a standard T5 be good for a 302 around 300hp?

      All depends on the metal id tag. That is how you get specifics

      The last video of the series is dropping today. I give all the techniques to make it work. You need a v8 input shaft, bearing retainer and change the speedo gear.

    in ref, making the teeth weak or aneling the metal when your using a torch.... very bad if you wanna get that gear back to were it was you need to re heat treat it back to spec but first heat treat it for 24 hours and then cool it down naturally and then heat treat it to spec.

    • @JunkyardDoggs
      @JunkyardDoggs  5 лет назад

      That is true, but thats why I use propane, it doesnt get hot enough to do any real damage.
