    Many newbies watching ! When referring to the synchros you should be clear as to the entire assembly is the synchro and the brass is the "synchro ring!"

    good tutorial, thanks. I can only add about the shift interlock finger (shift finger) in the top cover, for the older style was a two piece design that can fail and come apart (press fit pin), I recommend the OEM (tremec) newer designer one piece shift finger, or the aftermarket billet one piece from Amp distributing for an important upgrade. (T5 BILLET STEEL SHIFT INTERLOCKING FINGER T5BSF) plus you dont show how to remove bearing on input shaft as your not re-using the original input shaft but still I had to go to another video to find out proper technique.

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  Год назад +1

      That’s a good upgrade to add, thanks for the comment. I usually don’t see them go bad unless the driver doesn’t know how to shift and is abusing it. But I do see a bad one every once in awhile. A short shifter would help prevent this. To remove the input shaft bearing, I use a bearing splitter and a press.

    Awesome detail in your video mate. Can you tell me how to tell if my 5th gear synchronizer is bad? The 5th slider had beat up teeth when I pulled it. It’s just a a standard looking synchronizer with no fiber lined. Much appreciated any input thank you.

    Another question, I notice on your rebuild there is a 5th Gera blocker ring. My trans didn't have one on it and I didn't find one in the kit. I'm talking about the keeper for the springs and dogs in the clutch for 5th gear. I have another 6 cyl for reference but the shaft is to small

    Have you tried the anaerobic gels instead of silicone ? They come from the factory with it! It is awesome to use when your mating surfaces are good!

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  7 месяцев назад +1

      Ive tried it before but its a pain to clean up. The Right Stuff works better, never had an issue. They actually come from the factory with silicone. Ive pulled so many factory sealed T5s out over the years and Ive never seen one with anaerobic sealant.

    Just curious, with a trans reverse brake, is it more difficult to slide on the 5th/reverse hub or is it the same difficulty as one without it? I’m trying to slide mines on and i seem to force it to go on but when I put the reverse synchro on I can’t get the c clip to go on. Thank you in advance! I’ve watched it more than dozen times and it’s helped a lot. 👌🏻

    Excellent video. I'm wondering if you would answer a question. While rebuilding my T5 after installing the bearing retainer when I spin the trans by hand in 3rd gear the keys jump out of the synchro. Any suggestions?

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  Год назад +1

      If you are trying to engage 3rd without the input shaft and synchro installed on the front side of the 3-4 slider, the keys have nothing to stop against and will pop out when take it out of 3rd. Leave it in neutral until the input, synchro and retainer are installed, then you can play with it.

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  2 месяца назад +1

      Clock the tab in the 1 o’clock position when installing the tail housing. Put a little grease on the tab and inside the tail housing where it sits. Might be a good idea to do a few practice fits dry before you put sealant incase you get stuck.

    I just finished my rebuild with the kit I bought from you. Do you have a preferred hydraulic throwout bearing? Thanks, Kevin Burns

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  9 месяцев назад

      I can not speak from experience on hydraulic conversions for late model factory cable driven mustangs. From what I’ve heard they can be a pain to setup and get right as far as staying sealed and reliability. Maybe someone else here can help guide you in the right direction. My opinion is I believe its more reliable to keep factory cable driven mustang with cables. If you put a heavy clutch then it will stretch that cable in no time. I recommend Mcleod clutches as they have a factory pedal/pressure plate feel and its easy on cables and drivetrain. Even there twin disc setups!

    18:20 The process of putting this on for me is very difficult. Can it be extremely tight sometimes? I hammer it with a socket and it is definitely going in but I am hitting very hard and it's taking a while is this a red flag 505speeds? I've seen other rebuilds and they mention that the newer T5s can be very tight to get that keys fork thing on.
    Also, is it a good idea to use a press instead? Very carefully ofcourse.

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  4 месяца назад

      It should be a tight fit, make sure your socket is wide enough to clear the splines on the main shaft when tapping it down. Also make sure you have a solid table or surface to hammer on. Im using a 1/2” thick steel slab table. Don’t forget to line up the synchro slots with the keys! I find it more difficult with older T5s than the newer ones. Good luck 👍🏻

    What year T5 Transmission are the best to look for to rebuild? Going install it in 67 Mustang with a 302.

    • @505speeds
      @505speeds  Год назад

      Any virgin 87-93 World Class preferably. Many times these T5s are taken apart and rebuilt 2-3-4-5 times by various rebuilders or “rebuilders”. If its a been rebuilt by a “rebuilder”, wrong tools were used, hard parts may be damaged, threads stripped out, mating surfaces warped causing the rebuild process to be a headache and not worth it. If it has a tag on the top left second down case bolt its a good chance its a virgin or been rebuilt by someone who cares. You could always find one from a 94-97 base v6 mustang as they are usually not abused or opened before. But the gears will need to be swapped out to do the job correctly. But you will have a virgin case and hard parts.
