just sold my first “flip” a few months ago. bought on 07 Honda Odyssey (i’m a Honda tech) with a broken timing belt & bent valves for $1000. i then put $1500 into it, obviously valves and some other common issues were fixed. sold it for $6000 and somebody got a solid used car 👌🏼

i hear these odyssey's can get drivers some speeding tickets fast... i never once thought this till i saw 3 in a week from differant church member's not realizing they were going that fast when caught........... the ticket costs alone were way high in price not alone the court cost's & the rest that follows..........yikes / lol

Spot on with flipping cars or whatever you want to flip. What I have found is that if you buy something that needs to be fixed, you are basically just buying yourself a repair job. You can make your money back for the repairs you did, but you can't really clear any extra profit. Also, many fixer cars are older and harder to sell (at least here with our rust). So, you have to find newer vehicles that harder to find and require much more money to be tied up during the flip. You'd be better off to just find someone to pay you for making that same repair instead of dealing with the hassle of buying and selling. I know guys like JC Smith Projects are making it work, but I never have.

One thing you can do before puchasing a car is to do a personal inspection with your own tools, engine, gearbox, electric or the same checkings the testcenter do... AND check for breakdowns. Take a testride don´t just sitting and jump the gaspedal....After that you are almost finished to be more cleared. ++++ start studying electric schematic and mechanic alsmost everyday to update and do a practice on that...I am soon finished with my education but did practice beteen alot...YT is also very much help... :) .thanks for the vids

In my last job. I worked 3 12s. I had a Auto shop on Nextdoor. I worked on BMW and Toyota. I only worked on cars 8 years or newer. I had no overhead using my own garage. After 1 year I was rated number 1 on Nextdoor. I would pick up customers cars within 2 miles. Some customers would ask why I had 3/4 of a garage to work on their cars. Once they saw my work and I would wash every car afterwards. They would come back for more work and recommend me. It got so out of hand I was making mistakes at work. I had to quit my side shop when I started my current shop. All of my customers were great. Most people who own 3 cars and nicer cars never tried to cheat me or haggle on the price. My labor rate was 95 hr. I never charged for something I could not figure out.

  • @Jason607
    @Jason607 5 лет назад +19

If I were a better haggler I would, but amazing to me how people think that their non-working car they don't want to fix is worth almost as much as it is running.

    • @wyattandwill12

Tires alone can cost more than some near running cars. A seller who doesn't have it posted online I know of is trying to get rid of a '94 Grand Marquis which he said only needs a water pump (we'd have to see honestly bc he's also a used car salesman but ASE certified) for $400.

*For people just starting out* (little to no money, space, time, specialized tools [mechanical knowledge is useful but i assume thats why youre on this video])
fixing "junk" gas appliances i.e. chainsaws, lawnmowers, weed whackers, etc.
most people will leave these at the curb or will be willing to sell them for scrap metal when they stop working.
where you come in is 99% of these appliances have nothing super drastic wrong with them so taking it apart, cleaning it, and putting it back together emphasizing that everything is aligned and "looks" like it should work, and it will probably be just fine and you can sell it for almost 100% profit and you dont have to worry about messing up someone else's equipment if youre unsure of yourself.
also it may make you a faster mechanic and can clean up the rough edges of you skill
just my 2 cents, it saved my ass a couple of times

As always a good, insightful vid. I know time can be an issue and not everyone wants to work after work. I have known mechanics who have done pretty well doing side jobs after work as mobile mechanics. I worked as a service writer many years ago and had a friend at the shop who did side jobs he helped me maintain my vehicles at a reasonable cost for many years, up until about a year ago when he retired to another state down south. He was a great help and it was a convenience for me not having to drive my car to a repair shop and leave it there and have to pick it up etc. I have since tried to take on more repairs myself, RUclips has been a big help 👍🏽

For me I do some freelance for a person that has a used car dealer.
I know I need to get motivated again. November 6rh 2017 I had to go in for spinal surgery. I have been over the last 5 months ish been a bit depressed. I have been put on hold working on the house as well as I had to give up my government job. I have gone from working 18 hours a day to living in a construction site. I have to thank you and JRC54 watching your guys videos help me with my stress and depression..
I am hoping this snow goes away so I can do something and not feel like a nobody. I have been thinking about doing some RUclips videos until I can get my computer up and figure out how to make videos.
Who knows maybe I might be able to come out to see you.

Thank you for your time you have a great day now.

    • @RustbeltMechanic

It really depends on how much work you want to do. I’ve never looked into this due to conflict of interest laws/rules. If you are a mechanic for a local company, then moonlight in the same area to fix cars that could be worked on at your employers shop?..... most shop owners highly frown upon that because it’s a conflict of interest.
