    Im a land surveyor. Surveying equipment is very expensive. Software Licenses will most likely be more than $20,000 depending on what services you provide. Also, to do property surveys (the only task you described in the video) you do have to be licensed (4 year degree in civil engineering or surveying +pass state exam). Also, it does require quite a bit of knowledge and technical training.

    I own restaurants, in the Midwest, and we pay around $350 for someone to come out with a 100ft electric drain auger and clear the line. You don’t need a drain can unless you are having multiple visits in a short period of time to see what’s going on.
    Whether you charge a trip fee/diagnosis fee and a work fee or just a straight fee to do the job I think $350 is average for my area. This is also why I bought my own auger.
    I can’t imagine having a shower drain at home clogged and getting a $750 bill.
    I think a disclaimer of *know your market prices applies to all of these. I think a lot of your viewers are people looking for ideas for extra income, so a range of income should be expected
    based on your area.
    Also, don’t forget about taxes! And if you are self employed you’ll be hit extra on the payroll side. Still, it’s great to be your own boss.

    FYI to start a land surveying business you need to make sure you have a licensed Professional Land Surveyor on staff and who is responsible for all work. Most states require you to have a licensed professional land surveyor on staff, firms must designate an employee as the surveyor in responsible charge of all surveying activities. The surveyor in charge is generally required to have an active professional surveyor license in the state where the firm is located and/ or doing work. This is 100% the case for Washington, Oregon and Colorado. To be a PLS you need a minimum of an associates degree in land surveying and geomatics, but a BS is preferred. Also you will then need anywhere from 4~10 years supervised work experience before you can get licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS). It is illegal to offer services as a PLS if not licensed. Please research your suggestions thoroughly before telling people it’s ok to start doing them, thank you

Market aggressively with door hangers, photos of your work with happy customers, create fun community events to raise funds and awareness of your business, give back to the community, act professional and wear shoe covers always taking special care to use mats, clean up well and show as much respect as possible to customers homes. Look clean m, trustworthy and credible. Showing up in dirty ass random clotheswith your rolls hanging out smelling like cigarettes with a backwards hat and a huge unkempt beard and tracking shit through the house with a dirty truck is expected. Have the exact opposite image in everyway from this and you'll go a long way. The more 5 star reviews, the more you climb the algorithm.

    The plumbing estimate is a bit off. Just a camera and the locator cost about $12,000 from rigid.
    A good snake machine is about $5500. Plus you will need three different sizes so figure about 12 grand for all of them.
    just roughly about 30K for equipment plus the truck cost.

  • @ralphpettit9787

    Land surveying requires a license in all 50 states. 2/3 of the states require a BS specifically in land surveying. The remaining 1/3 require 8-10 years of experience to apply to sit for the exams. Regardless of the path to licensure, an applicant must pass 16 hours of national and state exams. Startup equipment cost is well over $50k if you’re going to be competitive. It is a rewarding career and terribly short staffed but is NOT a side hustle.

But if you do 4 clogs a day at 250 a piece thats a grand a day times that by a month = happy happy happy

No, two invoices of one at $500 and another at $250 will not count. 4 years of experience or 3 years of schooling with one year of exp, and you have to have someone sign off your experience verifying that you are qualified. Yeah starting a survey company is not the way to go because you own a pick up truck.
    It’s a very complex job and if you weren’t very good with math you’re not going to be successful.
    Also, who pays 750.00 for drain clogs?
    I’m going to start a RUclips channel tell me how to do that and make millions on stuff I know nothing about.

      It's also incredibly toxic to you, everything else, animals and the rest of the environment, INCLUDING any and ALL piping. Let me tell you about the $18,000 drain repipe we did on the home here in Washington because they used draino enough times to eat through all of their old galvanized and cast iron piping.

    In Georgia (and other States likely) in order for you to have 'Land Surveying' or 'Engineering' in the Title of your Business and, indeed as others have pointed out, to offer said services to the Public, you must have a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or Registered Professional Engineer as a Principal in the company, i.e. active owner or co-owner.

    lol bro you can’t just say I’m a surveyor. Unless you wanna spend 5 years under a licensed professional surveyor to get certified and then buy your own $30k Trimble…. Also in order to contract with city on public roads you need to go through A LOT OF HOOPS plus deal with prevailing wage, certified payroll and apprentice requirements.. at least in California.
    Maybe Christmas tree lights or medical delivery would make more sense for this “side hustle” video haha

    Correct in stating Land Surveying is in high demand. But you need to be licensed to be a Land Surveyor. Im on my way to be one. Simply put, new generation of kids coming out of grade school dont want to work outside. Land Surveying business is not a side hustle, hate to be the bear of bad news, but its not. I have not done research on all 50 states, but i bet all 50 states you have to have education. Here in PA, you can do school route or you have to have over a decade working under a PLS and apprenticeship til you become one. But then it is in high demand, its not a side hustle. Most small surveying firms are ran out of their own house, so subtract rent. In addition, you are producing a legal document in mapping land, that requires licensure. So again, attaining a licensure doesnt sound like a side hustle to me. I'm gona sound like a jerk here for a second, but I really so think you should take land surveying out of this video, its not a side hustle, period.

    Ah you forgot the cost of a 4 year civil engineering degree

  • @constructnoden394
    @constructnoden394 5 дней назад

    I am a surveyor 25 years. Your numbers are off significantly and you don’t mention anything about licensure in the states which in some states requires a four year degree, especially if you’re gonna subdivide properties. However, there is a significant amount of revenue to be made doing layout for construction companies, which does not require a license. With all that said it can’t be very complex. People ask you many questions and you’re gonna have to know how to answer them and that just takes experience and knowledge from the field.

    Who is paying $450 to unclog a drain. I had a clogged drain and plumber charged $80. No way I would pay $450 when I can go to Home Depot and rent the rigid myself for less than $100

    • @TheHighsmith8
      @TheHighsmith8 2 месяца назад

      This price is for a licensed, bonded, insurance and well reviewed, established service company with overhead. But specifically on main drain lines. Good luck there brother. I've seen plumbers with 8 years experience break fittings costing what would have been $3600 in repairs by not operating larger drain machines with finesse.

    $1000 in truck insurance? Thats astronomical. Remember you dint have a contract license there fore you are not paying commercial insurance. More like $60-$300 on regular vehicle insurance depending on type and year of truck.
