    This is the DT880 roundup we needed! So many people have reviewed the 880 but I haven't seen them all compared like this. Great stuff! If I was to get one I'd definitely get the Premium 600ohm just wish the cable was removable. Currently using a AKG K702 for comp FPS and trying to determine my next step. I already have a balanced dual 3.5mm cable so I might pick up the T1 if I see them on sale.

    Thank you for this review! I got the DT 880 PRO black editions a few weeks ago because they were on sale. I had no idea when buying them that the sound differed, and it was extremely hard to find info online to that effect. It was pretty clear that the PREMIUM version had a different sound, but even then, nothing set in stone.
    I listened to them for the first few days I got them and felt that the bass was muddy and overly represented. After seeing the curve you showed in your vid, it really shows that the bass is boosted and the mids recessed quite a bit.
    I ended up EQing them and WOW what a difference. I dialed back the bass a few db's, upped the mids (still recessed, but I like it that way), and reduced the treble a couple db's as well. They now have ample color in the low end without being boomy, enough midrange to have presence (stock midrange was lacking because of the boosted bass), and enough treble to sparkle but not be overwhelming.
    Originally, the headphone sounded muddy and tinny. With a bit of EQ they are truly unreal and highlight all the right things without being overly linear.
    Anyways, if you bought the DT 880 PRO BLACKs expecting the regular 880 sound, please do yourself a favor and EQ them - they will sound better than the regular 880s, and FAR better than the stock, bass-boosted, mid-scooped version that Beyer thought it would be a good idea to role out into a 'studio pro' version.

      Just won the pro blacks on ebay for $108 and I was worried about their shortcomings. Good to hear that they EQ well! I suspected that with some EQ (was planning on doing just what you did) they may have better character than the non-blacks. Sweet.

      I did not watch the entire video, but I wonder what amp you used to measure the 600 ohm version. At 600 ohms I would think that it would have massively different responses with different amplifiers as such a low impedance would cause most amplifiers to suffer at different levels. Never the less, I did find the graph very helpful at seeing what one scenario might be compared to the other models.

    Love the DT880 250 Ohm Edition I recently purchased. Have had the DT990 250 in the past (needs a cable repair, I broke the plug) and a DT990 32. Have loved all of them, even as a fan of the HD600. I do not find the DT880 as trebly as often claimed, nor the HD600 "too veiled." Both sound relatively "reference" to me, very different indeed, but not worlds apart either.
    I love the DT990 also. Good for all sorts of music-it is just a hated headphone from a "purist," "it must sound like this" perspective.
    I am not treble sensitive (love it, frankly, especially when it's extended and well done), so no Beyerdynamic offends me in the least, but also am NOT 85 years old. Hate the ageist connotations that older people cannot enjoy great audio, or that they can't appreciate how "bad" some headphones are. Maybe they like what they like, and you just do not enjoy treble at all? Nothing wrong with these older classics, and as the reviewer stated, a great value (and this 250 Ohm DT880 Edition is really among my best headphones for anything-both the HD600 and DT880 are excellent for "reference" lovers, with their own strengths and peculiarities.)

    I bought the black edition for monitoring and mixing in the studio. I don’t want a coloured sound just flat response. Anyone with experience using them for this purpose, are they flat enough for one to check if the mix sounds good on cans before mastering? Like, is the soundstage and frequency response representative of the mix you hear on monitors? Guys, if you have never used them for this kind of application please abstain from giving an opinion because it is a very specific use case and I don’t want to get confused.

    Hey there I've been watching countless videos on studio style headphones and I actually came across your channel from inside the r/headphones sub reddit. So props to them for pushing your name out there. I have a few questions that don't pertain to this exact video and I hope you don't mind that. I am looking to buy some headphones but I don't know where or what I should exactly be looking for. The main headphones I've come across are sennheiser 660 s and hifiman sundara + I hear amps/dacs help with the sound quality/make the sound way better. So to my question, which headphones would you recommend mainly for gaming? I will definitely be jamming out with the headphones as well but my main purpose will be gaming. Also if you could recommend an amp / dac that would also be great. oh and my budget is around $ 750 - 1000
    If you do catch this comment I do appreciate you taking the time to read!

    • @gamingaudioguide9292
      @gamingaudioguide9292  4 года назад +1

      That's tough between those two specific headphones. The 660s will be better at positional accuracy if it is competitive multiplayer you are looking at. If it's single player, I would anticipate the Sundara being more fun all-rounder, but admittedly I haven't reviewed it yet. Going off some educated guesses there. Thanks for the feedback!
