Finally, someone reviewing headphones who is actually using them in soundtrack work. I definitely need an upgrade...Thank you for the great video!
Thank you for watching and for the kind words!
Excellent review. I'm relatively deep into the headphone/audiophile scene and this was easily a better review then most I've seen from people who do just these kinds of reviews even for a living.
Thank you so much! I always try to be practical with my reviews.
Absolutely right!
I have been looking at soooo many reviews and this here is one of the best. Thanks.
I'm very late to this video, but I just wanted to say two things. Firstly, I really appreciate the practical perspective and your not getting bogged down in minutiae. Secondly, I wanted to mention that Beyerdynamic sell replacement parts for every piece on your 880s, so rather than binning the old ones when the new ones arrive, you could easily repair them as a spare set. Beyer even sell the different coiled and non coiled cables (only your 250 ohm studio version is coiled) so if you or anyone you know can solder you could actually replace the coiled cable on your old set with a longer straight cable and have a set for those occasions where the coiled cable doesn't reach.
I am the proud owner of the following AKG headphones: K240 MII, K371, K612 Pro, K275, K245 (open/semi-open), K175 (On Ear), K92, K182. In addition I’m also an equally proud owner of the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 ohms, DT 880 Pro, DT 240 Pro, and the DT 990 Pro!!!!! All of the Beyerdynamic and the AKG headphones shine with classical music.
Update: I am also the proud owner of the following Sennheiser headphones; HD 660s, HD 600, HD 650, HD 560s, and the HD 599! Sennheiser is just as phenomenal in both sound and build!
Great video! Great channel! Being a classical music lover and audio enthusiast, I subscribed immediately!!
Amazing review. This is how all reviews should be
Thank you!
Anne - Thanks for the quick response to impedance question. It's so refreshing to see an equipment review on RUclips by an actual GROWN-UP who knows what they're talking about, and does so as articulately as you. Your style of presentation here led me to look at other videos on your channel. Sure glad I did!
For those of you who may have just stumbled into this headphone review (as I did), I'd highly encourage you to look at Anne's other videos. This is a very impressive young woman and the work she is doing is just fascinating.
Haha, who are you calling a grown-up? :-P No, seriously, thank you so much for your kind words, I really appreciate it! Glad my videos have been helpful.
Well, I didn't mean to seem glib, but you're obviously mature beyond your years. Like I said, I originally found you by looking for a headphone review, then opened into this fascinating world of your career. Thanks so much for doing these videos. I have NO IDEA where you find the time!
Thank you for this review. It's refreshing not to have what I feel is an "audiophile" perspective through a forum post, rather, a real experience. I have HD598's and have had HD650's on my list for many years. I will be purchasing DT880's as the price in Australia is far more cost effective than HD650's and I think I'll be very happy with that decision based on your insightful review
I've had HD598 for some weeks and it feels like a downgrade in sound quality compared to any good IEM. Comfort is pretty great tho.
Nice review! It was great hearing a musician's perspective on headphones.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Great job, you actually speak our language as a consumers, and that's something you won't find else where
I‘m using the Sennheiser HD600 for quite some time. They‘re probably older than the 650. I like the „honest“ sound and they‘re really comfortable to wear if I work for hours.
Yes the HD600 are great as well and used a lot at composer studios. They do indeed have a more “honest” sound than the HD650.
Nice take from someone who actually uses different hp’s. I myself own the dt 880 premiums with the REM ADI FS Black Edition & love them. Great review. New sub.
Thanks for that comparison which is indeed really useful! I will probably save money by choosing the DT880, in replacement of my old pair of AKG.
And what I like most in your gear review, and I am so grateful for it, is that you don't recommend pieces of equipment that would be overkill.
Thanks for this profound and real review. Really nice to hear a real opinion and not a promotional video.

Well-said! It was great hear about your experience in all your different settings and applications. Good to hear and learn from you while I am trying to choose between the two. I’m sure it’s no surprise to you, but I still can’t decided lol
Hello! This was actually a very useful comparison-review! Ultimately, you didn’t say which ones are “better” but it just may be that for people who are experienced in recording and mixing, the equipment itself is less important than the “ear” and a perception on what sounds natural. After all, people have been making music and recording it for a hundred years now and the equipment we have today, even modestly priced one, is much better than what they had just twenty years ago. Still, it didn’t prevent them from making some wonderful recordings. In this regard, I really think your review has a lot of merit.
So, a surprisingly useful comparison. Thank you! Also, you are incomparably more literate than a large majority of people making videos and English is not even your first language, I take it. So, well done on that too!
You can get the Drop version of the Sennheiser HD650 for $220, it’s called the HD6xx. I have them and they’re identical other than slightly different color and a 1/8” cable instead of 1/4” but you can use an adapter.
Yep. I have 6XX as well and it's probably the best value around. I also have HD600 and 660S
Not the same though. Sound signature is shared among the 600 series.
This is 100% correct, the HD 650 and 6xx have both been measured and compared on industry standard measuring equipment - both have identical frequency response, acoustic design and drivers. So although they look slightly different, they are in fact the same headphone for roughly $150 less.
@@ReTr093 No they're not. They measure differently
@@daftbeyer they’re few differences, maybe on the treble, but very similar
Glad to see this review! Ive used both in the past as well. One observation I have is that the Beyerdynamic 880's tend to be too bright for my drumset bashed ears (another lifetime ago), so after awhile I would have ear aches using them. I don't have that same problem with the HD 650's though, partly because it doesn't have as much boost in the mid-high frequency range as the 880's.
Nice comparison. The Sennheiser is around 150-200 Euros. The Sennheiser is more about 350 to 400. So far I always bought Sennheisers. For these round I will go for the Bayerdynamics. Will be fun to see how that works. Thanks for the good work.
I am French
I strongly advise against it.
Beyerdynamics are no match for the HD650 and HD600.
Beyerdynamics uses tricks inside their headphones to linearize the frequency curve , this is the reality.
@@michelmichel2749 There's nothing wrong with that. You can tune headphones using parts of the earcup; it's how they made the 880's so clear and revealing
Hi you made an honest and modest review and I really appreciate the experience added into the review. Keep it up!
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Thanks so much for this! I'm a mixer who's trying to upgrade my headphone game and I didn't think about the negative effects of open-back in a noisy environment. Cheers :)
Paid the equivalent of $600 in South Africa for the 650...they only had 2 left at Sennheiser SA and they were the last they were going to stock.Worth the money because of the buttery detailed sound.
That's a pretty helpful review, I have the 880s in the post now, can't wait to mix on something with a bit of clarity.
Hope you'll like them!
Interesting topic for RUclips :) I've used both for quite a few years and they are both outstanding. The HD650 I reserve for occasional proofing the mix or mastering of material. You may want to consider upgrading the cable to take full advantage of their fantastic fidelity. Slightly more often I use the DT880, but not so much day to day either. The DT770 has slightly better resolution in the bass but lacks a bit of the high end resolution. The AKG K240 is also another great day to day set. Swapping headphones every few hours helps with listening fatigue and changes the pressure against your ears, which is not fun when it starts to irritate them. Each set will bring different aspects of the music and sound to the forefront. So the more, the merrier :)
I'm done with having to replace the cable from the hd850.. it's the 4th time since I got them in 2015. I'm gonna get the dt-880, thank you.
I have to say this cos it's true by my experience: With any audio hardware, if you have a choice between a German brand and something else, choose the German!
Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic are both Germans.
The Sennheiser HD580 precision is also a great choice. I'm using one for over 20 years. It's comparable to the HD600. Amazon sells nice earcap and cable replacements. For composing, monitoring or mastering, these Sennheisers are great. I've also tried an open, very high-end & expensive magnetostatic headphone. While it provided a pleasant more "speaker" like listening experience, and more prominent bass, it was no match for the Sennheiser in the highest frequency range. Greetings from Sweden, stay well!
Yes but the cables often die and it's not that cheap to replace them so often. Plus they're more expensive overall
@@tac2456 Correct. What I did was to bypass the little 'connectors' on the headphone and solder the L and R cables directly to the headphone connector. This works well and bypasses the arguably weakest spot of them.
Honest review! RUclips always tends to be very drastic to choose A over B and sometimes even two different headphones can work well together!
Indeed! There’s always more than one way to get to the desired destination.
That was a super pro review! Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful review! I absolute love your videos all the time!
I am wondering what your thoughts are on the Beyerdynamic DT 880 pros vs 990 pros (both 250 ohm)
Thanks for the great comparison video! You've helped me make up my mind - thanks. I must admit, I did a double-take when you said you weren't sure of the right English word for "curly" cord! I would've had no idea that English was your second language! With that accent I just assumed you were a native born American! :-)
Very clear explanation and comparison, I like the conclusion part well. keep rocking 👏👌👍
Thank you!
thank u anne really one of the best reviews
Thank you!
I have an AKG K 371 looking for a second headphone option, searching among Senheiser models, this seems like a great option, thanks for this review
You said you don’t know the word in English, yet your English is 100% perfect. You sound like English is your native language.
Great review.
A very nice comparision. Listening to it on my Sennheiser HD 6XX that is very similar to the 650. I share your enjoyment with it, the fun and spacious sound is very much its signature. And the 6XX is much cheaper.
As far as having to send the BD headphones back for repair if the cable fails -- I recently had to replace a worn cable on my DT770 Pros (it took 15+ years to wear out). BD sell the replacement cable as a spare part, complete with new strain relief and plug, so I did the repair myself. If you don't mind doing a little soldering, it's a straightforward repair. I like that BD are happy to sell spare parts like this.
Hi Anne, nice video. I'm just upgrading my headphones to a pair of DT990. About 15:20 you can find a replacement for the ear pads and the headband if you feel that they're starting to fall apart both for less than 20 bucks and you don't have to replace all the headphones spending way more. Hope this helps. Thank you for the videos and have a great day.
Yes, naturally I know that and have already replaced the earpads twice. But they are now falling apart in other places too that can't be fixed (like broken plastic etc.).
@@AnneKathrinDernComposer You can buy & replace basically every piece and screw of this Headphone. For some parts you have to be able to solder though. If there are too many damaged parts it can be easier/cheaper to just buy a new one...
I got the DT 990 Pro. Love them to death.
DT990 , too much bass , disgusting treble , medium backward and lack of definition.
DT990 = equalizer
Appreciate your insight as a composer. I'll provide some of my own feedback (as both a musician and somewhat of an audio tech enthusiast/audiophile).
One really important "techy" bit that everyone considering these needs to know: these are both high-impedance headphones, the DT880 are 250 ohm, the HD650 are 300 ohm... you cannot just plug these into any headphone jack and have an enjoyable experience. The HD650 are notoriously somewhat difficult to drive, if you just plug these into a phone or a laptop you're going to have a bad time. Anne touches on this at around 6:25. There probably is a difference in the audible volume since they aren't the same impedance, but it's probably not much.
To grossly oversimplify why high-impedance headphones are good: High impedance means the noise "floor" is lower, so silence will actually be silent. Weak electrical signals translate to no audible noise level in the headphones. It also means it takes much greater electrical signal to produce audible sound, so you need a more powerful audio source.
On the Sennheisers:
The HD600 are different than the 650. The HD600 are a bit more flat, and (when they were current-gen), they were also cheaper. Many regarded the HD650 as being "better" but not worth the price of the upgrade. Nowdays: The HD650 have been "replaced" by the 660s. The HD650 are 300 ohm, the 660s are 150 ohm. They also have newer redesigned drivers.
If anyone is considering Sennheisers, I recommend you look on drop.com and try to get Sennheiser HD58X Jubilee headphones. They're a recreation of the HD600... but they use the drivers from the HD660S. At the end of the day, you pay $150-170 for headphones worth >2x that amount. If you can't get the 58X Jubilee, there's also the HD6XX from Drop, which is a remake of the HD650. The 6XX were made before the 58X jubilee... so despite the number being higher, the 58X jubilee are probably the better set. You can find more extensive reviews on this elsewhere.
On the Beyerdyanmics:
There are three headphones in this "family". The DT990 are fully open, the DT880 are semi-open, and the DT770 are closed. They all use the same drivers, though.
The DT770 come in four variants: 16 ohm, 32 ohm, 80 ohm, 250 ohm. Which ones you want depend on what you're using them for.
Anne, I agree that through a "typical" sound source, that the 880 and HD650 will probably sound very similar to each other. In my experience, if you put a well-paired DAC/preamp/headphone amplifier behind the HD650, they achieve an astronomically higher "quality-ceiling" than the Beyerdynamics can. You can probably find that sentiment echoed on other audio forums on the internet.
I own the Senn HD650, the BD DT770 pro, and the BD DT990 pro. The 990/HD650 are redundant, but I have both because I used to keep the HD650 at home, and the DT990 pro at work. The HD650 also benefit tremendously from tube amplifiers.
UAAAU AMAZING! GREAT
we sure do love headphones. i want to add some real tests results. regarding HD600 . impedance is not related to the efficiency . I compared to dt770 250 ohm. the hd600 are a lot more LOUD at the same volume level. that is opposite to the fact that their impedance is higher. they work very very good with every smartphone that I had. the dt770 are quieter a lot. the sound of the dt770 : people talks about the V-SHAPE ,but its a "hole" at the mids. I enjoy listening with the dt770 with a simple passive LP and HP filter.
if you do the other way around , (come back from the dt770 to the hd600) , you could get disappointed at first. as if the hd600 are boring. , both of them so sensitive to pass the sound through the body. I noticed that while testing dt770. touching the wires and the output of an amp. I cant explain why , they are sooooooo different that its funny. but both are fun.
As a more recent favourite of mine, I really love the extended range of the Audio-Technija ATH-M40fs (the fs is important there). I'm not sure you can get them anymore, but they also sound superb. Those are closed back. In conclusion you need one of every kind for all the different applications :D
Sennheiser does durable stuff... My Sennheiser HD-560 Ovation II-s that I use for mixing are officially 25 years old this year (!!) and they sound and feel superb. Aside from the obvious pad exchange from time-to-time and a cable change at one point (user changable), I had zero issues with them. They sound amazing even today even after 25 years :D
Since three weeks I own the DT 880 and I really love them. I have the "not so beloved" 32 ohm version because most of the time I listening on my laptop and I don´t want an amplifier. Compare to my old AKG K240 mk2 they are clearly another level. Here in Germany the cost of the Sennheiser is twice the price of the DT 880. Also I prefer semi open headphones. With 300 ohms the Sennheiser was not an option for me and my "equipment" ;-). It´s a matter of what I need and what I´m willing to pay. Mostly I hear film music(Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard) and classical music and they really sound wonderful in my 57 year old ears ;-)
So glad you like them!
Great review. And might pick one up for the new year. Thanks. Am considering the DT880 Pros.
I'm down in the trenches with the Sony 7506's lol. I think like speakers you get to know the sound of what you use most. The trick is knowing that the sound you know is worth knowing, you know? Hehe. Thank you for these videos, Anne. For all the crapola it takes to do them, I really appreciate your effort. I haven't missed a single one and I haven't been disappointed yet.
Really glad you enjoy my videos. There is an argument to be made for knowing your equipment but that only goes so far. After all you can't correct frequencies you can't hear and if especially the low mids are unbalanced (as they usually are on closed backs), the mixes will either be too muddy or two bright. When I switched from the DT770s to the DT880s I was shocked by how many bad frequencies I had missed and how unbalanced my mixes were - simply because I couldn't hear those on the 770s.
hi, nice review. which one will you recommend for listening heavy metal music ? or any thing else ?
That was a really great, practical presentation. Very well done!
I am curious though, what the impedance is on the Beyerdynamic phones. If I'm not mistaken, they come in 32, 250, and 600 Ohm versions. Can you tell me which ones you are reviewing?
Thanks for watching! I'm reviewing the 250 Ohm version. I think for the 600 Ohm you'd need a dedicated expensive headphone pre-amp and the 32 Ohm would be for really weak pre-amps (like the ones in laptops, smartphones, etc.).
This is the kind of 'nothing burger' that I needed! I'll do some more reading up on the Beyerdynamic 990s, as I'd prefer fully open backed but I'm a little concerned about the bass boost of the Sennheiser given the bass-heavy music I often make; but clearly either of the ones you cover here would be fine for me.
Great review, and unique from an engaged composer. Very charming, indeed. Thanks, Subscribed.
Thank you!
Very informative as usual. Can you recommend any commercial headphones just for listening to music on the go?
I hate how the Beyer grey pads get flattened when it is worn. It's sound change too. Many people replace the pads very often even 2x a year to preserve the original sound. I personally like the black pads. They are not as soft and the sound kinda boomier but it remains original throughout years
One big thing...the HD 6X0 series also scales with different/better sources... while that's not true with the 880.
Also to add...make sure you change the pads out on both once they start to flatten. Those 880s in the video are looking rough. 😉
I use the Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pros which are outstanding. They come with 2 types of detachable cables (both straight and coiled), and two types of ear cups which offer different sound quality. These work great through both my headphone amp and my audio interface for orchestral composition. They ear cups offer a more detailed high and also a warmer sound depending on what you are interested in. They are more expensive, but worth every cent.
Have you compared these to the dt 850 or hd 650`s?
Very practical and personal
Review. Refreshing
This was a great review! I was debating if I should go with BD 880 or 990 but I just bought Beyerdynamics 990 Pro 2 days ago, I am loving how they feel and sound. Not sure why 880s are more expensive, could be that they used better materials in the actual driver, or something, but 990s are fully open back, and my previous pair of headphones was fully open so I kinda got used to that type of sound.
I also bought them a couple of days ago. They sound amazing, but they do require some eq'ing lol
DT880 less expensive because no use Super Bass Boost THX 2
Than for your rhetoric by explaining. They are both good Headphones, but I also get feel for the Senheiser.
Still using my old but trusty HD580 (with cable soldered directly to the headphone bypassing its connectors) :) I'm amazed how true to life they sound, not very different from our also great Iloud MTM's. One advantage of using headphones worth mentioning: if you have damaged hearing in one ear (or otherwise different ears), you can individually EQ L and R to compensate for this. E.g. using Fabfilter Pro EQ3. It won't work well with speakers since you lack the absolute L and R separation here.
In my experience Beyerdynamic and the DT800 pro has been quite bad. After two years, the left side stop working. I tried to contact Beyerdynamic several times, asking to indicate where to send them for repairs, they don’t respond. They refer you to a from online that doesn’t work, and that’s it. After that, they just ignore you. After doing some research online, I found that many people are also experiencing bad support from Beyerdynamic. Now, they advertise these headphones as “repairable” but in reality they would not respond to a request for support, would not provide parts or at least, indicate where to source the parts. Once your DT 880s are broken they are as good as trash.
HI Anne-Kathrin, first of all thanks for this helpful video! Could I ask you why you use headphones instead of monitors?( Is it like this right?) There are many different thoughts on it.. I'm curious to hear from you what you think/know about that.( Is it better for orchestral mixing/production?) Thank you!
Alessandro
It's a personal choice that stems from my time as an assistant when I simply had to work on headphones a lot, especially when sharing a room at times. It was also helpful as a reference when I was working for different composers in different spaces. Speakers are great too and certainly preferred by some but one needs a consistent room that is the proper size and acoustically treated. Otherwise even the best speakers in the world won't be helpful at all. I don't have a treated room right now and since I will be moving to a different space eventually, it doesn't make sense to spend thousands of $$$ into treatment. Aside from that, I prefer the amount of detail I can hear on headphones and it's certainly more cost effective for my business to invest into various pairs of studio headphones that were designed for mixing. It also enables me to work early in the morning or late at night if I need to without bothering anyone. And of course it does help to hear my music on headphones because that's most likely how the audience will eventually consume the media (once it's had its theatrical run etc.).
@@AnneKathrinDernComposer thank you very much for your kind answer! !
Always been curious about these kind of head phones, never have the money to get any though lol
They are pricey, though not as pricey as room treatment and a decent pair of speakers. Plus they last forever so it's a good investment in the long run. :-)
The Sennheiser HD6xx are less expensive from Drop.
I have a question, which Focusrite model are you plugging these headphones into?
Thank you,
Enjoyed the video😊
...just to ask...do you use headphone amplifier for the hd 650?I wanna buy them but not sure will they be ok with my ssl2 sound card...regards
I love the beginning of the video, calm waters.❤️
I love my sennheisers but wouldn’t mind having a pair of Beyerdynamic
Thanks Anne-Kathrin! I am returning a recent purchase of AKG 271 MKII in favor of a pair of Beyers (so far that is my aim).
Reason being that if I slightly move my head (looking at the keyboard, my screen, out the window) the cable brushes against my shoulder or chin, and it makes a loud whooshy noise. It's so annoying! I'm curious if you experience this with the DT880Pro?
You many not see my question before I go to the store, but I was curious if this happens to you.
Cheers!
Andre
I would ask, do you have Hifiman Sundaras and if you do, how do they compare to both of these cans? Really appreciate your honest opinion on these in the video. I've heard the PC150s (old/ based on the 595s or something) Custom One pros and the MMX300s and both the Beyers are bass heavy so for you to say the 880s are not as warm as the 650s is kinda striking to me. I realize they're open and all that goes with that however the Sundaras are warm and open like you say the 650s are so I'm just curious the comparison. Thanks!
Hello , I have been using the sennheisers for ages. For me it is a big plus is that the cable can be detached, I have the third replacement now ( because it is not curly and I probably rolled over it too many times with my chair) I did check the beyerdynamics back then but I should give them a second try . Just saw in another video that you studied at Artez . Which city ? I studied at Arnhem ., it was not called Artez back then , but there were already colaborations with Enschede and Zwolle.. Cheers from Rheinland
Haha..you answered a question here I pose on the Composer Hardware question regarding which 880 model. I’m definitely thinking of getting the 880s. Have you actually used the Sonarworks plugin? Curious how well it works and if you think headphone only plugin or the one that does speakers and headphones is better.
I live on a small island in the Atlantic (Bermuda) and demoing anything is-especially now with Covid-virtually impossible. When traveling is safe again, I would really love to hear the (also German) HEDD-Heinz Electrodynamic Design Deutschland-Audio air motion transformer products-both the speakers and the HEDDphones... Heinz was one of the original designers at Adam Audio who developed the A.M.T tweeter technology. Apparently the clarity from the HEDD A.M.T is stunning, and overall the products are excellent.... most curious 🔊🎶✨
Let's hope the music tech stores will still exist then. A big chain in LA is actually closing which will make it very hard going forward to audition equipment. It's a very unfortunate side effect of this situation.
Do you think one could compose music in closed-back headphones? I'm thinking whether to get DT880 or DT1770. Everyone seems to recommend open-backs for these purposes, but I've always liked it when there is as little bleed as possible, and the semi-open ones are described as still having some bleed. I'm afraid that hearing what's going on in the real world around me might end up annoying me (I don't ever collaborate on music with people next to me and I don't think that's gonna change, I'm just a solo amateur). I like to completely immerse myself in the music.
Actually, the HD650 is more expensive than the DT880, but the HD6XX from Drop (which actually is a HD650) comes fairly at the same price as the DT880. I personally prefer the HD650, i owned the DT880 for a long time and dont like its boosted "crispyness" anymore. The HD650 sounds a little "darker" at first glance, but in the long run listening is way relaxeder.
Space laces uses both so this is interesting af
To record, you definitely need closed back headphones, but for mixing, you would prefer open back ones.
I have watched your review three times and tried to build a picture form myself.
I'm tempted to buy 650 and I already own 880 for quite long time.
can you share your thoughts if it's possible - the benefits of this "upgrade" are worth of it after few years? I have similar type of interface and it's probably a future problem in powering 650s. but you saying it's not a problem. my 880s plays loud enough almost on 95% of volume knob.
and I'm not sure do I need this transition? it matters?
Different applications and preferences for the 880 and 650. Very good demo/presentation. Even the microphones from those respected companies are excellent as well. I have a few of them. alles ist gut👍🏼🎧
For the scarlett, which i also own, foscurite recommends headphone impedances up to 250 ohms. However the hd650/hd6xx has 300. i'm about to buy either the hd6xx or the 880 but this is concerning me. From your own experience, do you feel that the scarlett underperforms or has any problem with it?
Both are great headphones. I went with the Audio Technica AT-R70s because of their sound and comfort. I could wear them literally for hours with no fatigue Exceptional.
I'm leaning towars R70x too. Have compared it to the DT880 PRO?
Great comparison!
Thank you!
FYI - Sennheiser make a discounted version of the 650 that is a different color but is the same in every other way - it's called the HD6XX and is sold by a company called DROP for $220
It is not the same headphone...
@@rodrigoesser6484 - Sonically It's the exact same.
i had many sennheiser over the years and i love them. I found that Beyers or AKG ( like the k712) are a better representation to what I listen to, while the sennheiser seem to 'nicen' it up. So sennheiser make you feel better but are less honest. ( .. and AKGs are Austrian, ... ;),
The big advantage of the dual, detachable cable is the ability to drive headphones from a balanced amp output. A shame, because Beyers have really great sound, but you cannot convert them for balanced input without major modifications. At that point, might as well get a proper balanced input set of cans.
Nice review, I prefer the HD650s. I haven't yet found any headphones that I can work on for more than a couple of hours without ear fatigue though. Would like to find a pair that doesn't touch or push against your ears!
Me also using same beyerdynamic 🤝🙌🏻 yeah its cool buddy 🤩😍
Which ones would you recommend for watching movies?
Do you think the perceived depth of the Sennheisers would warrant a +300€ higher pricetag?
I'd be interested in your opinion of the Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X.
Nice review! I have both, I must say I prefer the 880 Pro pair generally, just a little more present somehow. I'm now doing mostly mastering and some mixing, so considering trying some higher end headphones, Sennheiser HD800s seem to be the standard - but I'm attracted to the AKG K812 Pro model - can be had cheaper than HD800s - have you tried them anyone?
Me: Hey Siri, add “nothingburger” to my dictionary.
Siri: I’m afraid I can’t do that. You told me no more weird German words.
😉
Would you know something about amplification? Im torn between the 250 and 600ohm versions of the 880s and i couldnt find a solid best bang for the money amp for the 600ohm that would properly drive it.
coiled is the right word! I too prefer coiled cables.
I have Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 it's great, amazing sounds. Sennheiser and beyerdynamic and many other headphones are the best. Not like Bose, Apple, Beast etc. Those are expensive but the sounds and quality is incredible! Those are not joke! best headphones 🎧
Hi, I have one question: Why HD650 and not HD600? 650 have warm coloration. HD600 are the neutral headphone. You are not the first mixer to use 650, which is why i'm asking.
That was not a nothingburger - You've made me want to buy both! :-D
Haha, well that’s something I guess!
I have some headphones 880 990 770 elex 6xx 600 599 660s Sundara etch etch... U should try HD660s they are amazing.
Have you ever tried the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro? If so, what do you think of them?
I have not tried those but if I ever see them in the wild I certainly will.
If you have a decent amplifier (preferrably class a 2watts into 32 ohms or more), do give the shure srh1840 a try. Also audio technica makes great open backs too. I've heard their ad2000x and it was very nice, for reference I think r70x is the set they have.
"That good German quality." Ha ha, I couldn't agree more! 😀
The base on the 600 is exactly the same as on the 650 .Thes 650 has a little warmer sound
But if you're on a budget, the Sennheiser HD400 Pro is a very valid choice... around 250 dollars, they're phenomenal quality open back headphones.
some people modding dt880 by putting 1-2 layers of toilet paper under the pads to reduce sharpness on higher frequencies.
And it also works on DT770 too.
@@spaceshipearth356 yep.
Sometimes women are more practical, and I learnt a lot, but what you saying about bas extension, depth, better for vocal mixing, now I am sure, but I would have love the closed back. but I will research more
