Road Test Fail × 4BT Cummins Discovery #44 [Land Rover Build]

- Making preparations for the first road test drive: Painting fabricated parts, wiring gauges + brake lights, modifying shifter, & setting up warnings so I don't somehow space out while a the fuel stations.
~ PART#44 in a project dubbed "Nanuuq" to swap out my lifted Land Rover Discovery 2's blown 4.0L V8 & boring ZF auto for a Cummins 4BT 3.9L turbo (Holset Super HX30W) diesel 4-cylinder engine (Bosch P7100 pump) with an NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD 4x4 will remain with the LT230 transfer case divorced behind it all, & plenty of Dodge 6BT parts too. Another big phase of my custom DIY build to create a do-just-about-anything off-road / overland rig. Did I mention it's a camper too?

~ DISCLAIMER: Please do not do/repeat/imitate/recreate anything I do in my videos. JUST DON'T! It can be very harmful to bystanders, your person, your wallet, & your psyche. Don't risk the only "meat vehicle" you get!
Don't fret! Wasn't about to let a speed-bump like this stop the progress, & it's already moving again 👍 I'll have the details on the oddball thing that went wrong in the next video. And shout out to Josiah for the minty "Land Rummins" emblem plate, not just a cool laser engraved metal plate but easily the best name for the swap I've heard yet!
It looks perfect on your build! Like I said below, I have another batch of badges (we need these drinking badges!) soon.
We're at the point of fitting the engine now...building the engine mounts from scratch to go around the starter and vacuum/power steering pump combo
*stinking badges... Damn autocorrect strikes again
Glad to hear it, because we need more 4BT Disco's too 😎
@@Tinker1837 yessir!
Those gauges are definitely snoopy from the front?!?!:)
Oh man I don’t think you’ve ever left us hanging like that before. How dare you!
I swear it'll be worth it! It's such an odd thing that broke 🤨
It has had its first issue! It’s still a rover!
Hahaha! The Rover name is strong enough to even corrupt a name as reliable as Cummins 💪
Still wishing I had your fabricating skills and your knowledge bro. Beautiful piece of equipment and very very professionally done. I’m sure/ and I hope it was a simple fix. Waiting to see more.
It's nearly all self taught so I'm sure you could pick it up faster than you think! Thanks & it seemed complex to me, but in the end I learned a bunch more about how my injection pump works :D
I could pick it up, but not with the neatness and professionalism that you portray.
Dude, the whole thing is awesome! That Land Rummins badge is the icing on the cake 😆.
I'll have another batch ready soon. They are a fraction larger this go round
Thanks! That badge is such a cool + sneaky nod to the old school.
Mannn... every video you drop is just making me realizing more and more that I’m gonna have to pay you guys much more than top dollar if I ever find a Cummins because A blind man could even tell how much work you’ve put into this build! I’m now officially starting a my discovery mod savings account 😂 hopefully able to link up before the end of the year !
Glad you like & yeah it's been a bonkers amount of work for sure! Would be so cool to see more diesel swapped Disco's, & it just keeps more of them on the road & out of the junkyards.
Man it's looking so good. Looks like a blast to drive too.
Thanks & it sure is!
Sick! Glad the drive went well for the most part, diesel'ing is scary! Glad the governor shut it down from running away.
Sure can be! I dodged a bullet, but learned a bunch about how that injection pump works now haha 😆
Hello man, nice content as usual. This quarantine season got me tinkering my Trooper too, and spotted stuff that you use to build my workplace.
I'm done repainting my bumpers, cleaned my turbo, done an oil change. Next thing to do, remove and repaint front bumpers, and fabricate a full roof rack. Thanks for the ideas and tips. !!!
Thanks! It's a great time to hammer on the projects, & sounds like you are really getting after it! Happy to share them :)
Can't wait to see the next steps of this build !
Much more to come!
The last second if this vid is a crack up 😂😂
Awesome mate.
Let's just say it's a good thing I cut it off when I did :P
It wouldn't be a proper Test without problem. I hope it's nothing massive.
Great job as always
Right! I would be more worried if there were NOT any speedbumps along the way.
YeSssssssssssssssssssss!... Noooooooooooooooo! lol. Got so excited bro!... Still excited, high expectations mate. Get those genius pixies workin on it. Cheers for sharing!
Wait until you see/hear it driving after the fix!
Yessssss!!! Thanks for all the videos throughout this project! This actually pushed me to manual swap my 08 cummapart.
Hell yeah, that's no easy task either! Glad they can be of some use 🤘
Tinker nope, went with the 5600 versus the g56! No Mercedes science projects for me!! Can’t wait for the next upload to see what the cause was!!
Those things are tanks! Hopefully it'll be ready today 👍
My first Land Rover was an early Series II 88, 1958 I believe, diesel of course. Could barely reach 60mph but could drive straight up a wall. Biggest regret of my life getting rid of that. Too bad California makes it so hard to to do what you're doing on my Disco II. Living vicariously through you meanwhile!
Oooo those are classics 😎 Yeah I am well glad that Michigan is forgiving with mods like these.
I hate to laugh at another man's misery, but that cracked me up! Can't wait for the next video!
In the moment it sucked, but once I saw the footage... I couldn't resist sharing the misery haha!
Last part was funny ...I thought my phone was black out HAHAHA
Glad you like, that was fun to make haha!
@@Tinker1837 yaa bro cool vid😂
My heart skipped a beat, I thought it was about to run away for a minute. It was kinda cruel how it ended though.
Same! I was damn near speechless when it went sideways. I figured the fix would take several days & I didn't wanna slack again from trying to upload weekly, so I just put out what I had.
Tinker always leave them wanting more
Thankfully this build will likely never really "end" so I can keep everyone's Disco fix fulfilled.
I live in Oregon, I think the only State left that we aren't allowed to pump our own gas/fuel...I LOL'd and nodded at all the "DIESEL ONLY!!11!!" stickers.
All that, and we still had a friend with a 6BT pull in for fuel and have the rocket scientist kid fill it with regular....that was an expensive oops for the station owner. Thankfully Byron caught it before he fired up.
I love all the "Temporary™" going on. ;)
Right! A couple dollars in stickers will hopefully save me a load of of cost in a quick mistake. Temporarily ridiculous :D Hmm... wouldn't be a bad name for my content haha!
Love it! Keep plugging away man ! Almost there
Will do :)
That had to be such a trill to get it on the road after all the time and effort you have put into it. I'm pulling for you.
Very much so :D
I enjoyed each and everyone of vedio thank you for make my day
Glad you like :)
I feel that in McLaren needs someone so perfectionist with his job like you for win again in F1. 😷😉
Now THAT could make for a dream job. Coincidentally I am using one of their engineers' reference books for my upcoming electrical build for this 🤓
@@Tinker1837 👍🏻😄
Good that you have enough experience to know to give it a proper shakedown before taking it into any real terrain. With the amount of modification and custom work on this there is bound to be some tweaking needed. Just figures something installed "as supplied" would be an issue...
Looking forward to more, great days to you !
Tempting but best to treat it like Bambi... I've step at a time! And to you as well :)
TheCanadianBubba almost 2yrs :)
Lol that teaser at the end! So good man, love these videos.
Haha I though people would like that :P
It’s never a good time when there is a problem inside the governor housing 😅
Lots of spinny things that don't play nice with each other when something breaks!
I'm here. I'm so excited every time when I see your video. By the way i am from east country!
Glad you like and welcome! :)
Long time first time, you do unbelievable work brother!
I remember reading a while back that you were kicking around the idea of doing another, so I was wondering if ya had any interest in adapting an '04 Disco to take the repower crate but keep the native diff?
I'm not too far south of ya, building out my take on the camper presently.
Hey thanks! Yeah maybe, because I have been seriously considering picking up a few Disco's with blown V8's to install both engine swaps _(either LS or diesel)_ & campers like mine. Cool to hear of others getting upgrades instead of 1-way trips to the scrapyard!
Oh for sure!
I got mine by accident from a scrap guy, former owner ran it into a tree and junked it, only frame damage on the front. Bomb still ticking faithfully 20k (118k odo) later!
Luckily I started reading the manual before I dumped it, these suckers are PACKED with features.
Gonna at least do the steering u-joint if not more this year. Keep up the awesome work brother!
The curfew has started, thank you coronavirus Work has become doubled 😂😂
It is funny timing haha
When you're smart, you're smart
Stupider like a fox! ruclips.net/video/y7QaXj-vnek/видео.html
LOL. Almost there! You Got This!
It's getting there, one little stumble at a time hahaha!
Love the plate.
The guy nailed it!
Do you have any plan for ABS or Traction Control systems? Not that they are necessary but it is a nice safety feature.
I do not, but I do have a center locking differential now & will be installing lockers to solve traction issues. I don't ABS will make a comeback, although I do plan to re-build the entire braking system using much larger Range Rover Sport calipers & rotors... so it's maybe something I could keep from the donor vehicle 🤔
:34 that’s like a drive by painting
Channeling my inner Banksy
Супер! Спасибо за видео! Жду продолжения! 👍👍👍
Glad you like, much more soon!
greetings from Panama..Have you some video of radiator fan installation?
Not yet, but soon! I am planning to build a nice shroud for them that will make the engine compartment look better too.
uuuu a pity, I wanted to see the test drive but the problem with the engine did not leave us I hope the arrangement is not complicated at all. Cheers.
Much more coming now that it's fixed 👍
The project final shit or not? Hope you can use it on the perfect
Final? No no, only just getting started 😎
Damn it Jim! I’m a doctor not a mechanic!
What am I? A doctor or a Bosch injection pump expert?!
super SUV
Finally is strong 💪
What was the defect? injection pump?
Thankfully only a part of it, not the whole thing, but I will go into plenty of detail on what happened in next video 👍
@@Tinker1837 can't wait!
less bad cool, in my next video I will indicate your channel.
Hey I love you Rover.. when you did your lift did you have to buy longer arms for your front axle and if you did did you use three degree angle or six?
Thanks! I did not, since I'm planning a long travel setup with different axles.
@@Tinker1837thanks for the quick response... I got you
How long have you been working on the disco installing a new diesel engine and then you go and put stickers on the fuel cap to remind you its a diesel ,
If you knew me you would understand :P
Love your license plate Easter egg. Lost boys reference?
It was fun coming up with the name way back, but nah the name's an Inuit word meaning "Polar Bear", which is a reference to how the Rover is chunky, always dirty white, slow & lumbering etc.
@@Tinker1837 the Husky in the first Lost Boys movie was named Nanooq. Never knew it translated to Polar Bear.
Right, been ages since I've seen that one, & I might have to go give it a nostalgia watch.
Hey I am in Michigan too! Just bought a Defender 130 Looking at a do a 4BT swap! Where do get yours!?
Mine was a lucky find thru a friend, & it actually came out of a piece of construction equipment (a drilling company's mud pump)
tinker ma man awesome bro
I'm having so much fun with this project!
Awwwwww...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ಠ_ಠ
Wooow,, amazing,,,,
Thanks :)
Well, that was almost the saddest video ever. Well, not ever, but still woulda been tragic. Had flashes of when deboss left his socket inside the Ls, just painfull. Also i have no idea how HD stuff is set up but no boost control seems odd
Almost, & painful for sure but I ended up super lucky with how it broke... it's already back to chugging along, & thankfully without my wallet being too much lighter like it could've been!
I don't miss michigan salt eating my vehicles damn i forgot how much bank muffler shops make there lol.
It's rough, especially when you're behind one of those county trucks and the sheer amount of car killer spewing out the back... YIKES
That "fuck" at the end was so honest...
It's a good thing I cut the audio when I did... youtube's algorithm would not approve
I like Land Rummins, but Cum Rover would have got you more "action".
Ha! It's funny that half the names I initially came up with sounded not too far off from that.
old sick car
:)
does it have some dum pump (injection) thing cuz it was a mud pump motor????????????
Thankfully no, it has the "over the road" pump. My engine started life in a Freightliner StepVan, but only for a short time before the van was wrecked, then was removed to replace a blown-up Detroit diesel in a drilling company's giant mud-pump, which didn't last long either because that mud-pump's gears exploded & was put out to pasture. As far as I can tell my engine has very little hours, on it on account of an unlucky string of events for previous owners.
Epic
It's so good :D
where could i buy a defense like that new
where could i buy a defense like that new???
I wish!

I ready for me project to me 2013 jeep wrangler sahara 🇪🇭 with 6sp with cummins 4
where the tickets are sold, to see if I win it.
So close to sorted, what now?
I re-sorted it, was an issue with an internal part of the governor & I'll get into all the details of the weird failure in the next video.
Me pueden ayudar con el motor Cummins 4 BT hasta cuanto llega de velocidad.... Tengo un discovery año 94 8v a gasolina como consume mucho lo hice a gas en mi país cuesta el cilindro de gas de 14 Kg. $ 2 dólares ...me rinde 135 km

Parkour paintjob :P
please vidio to go to off-road to mud and hill
I can hardly wait :D
Don’t you just love those teething problems
Yep, all comes with the territory. Hell, I'd be more worried if nothing went wrong.
Silly enough.

@@Tinker1837 well done, you are doing well. I also do swap. I respect mechanics who in detail, relate to their work in detail

Thanks! Swaps are good fun. I have been working harder on extra detail with this project.
FYI the stock connector for the solenoid is Metri-pack 630 3 Conductor Connector Set 12 Ga.
Good looking out 👍
