~ PART#34 in a project dubbed "Nanuuq" to swap out my lifted Land Rover Discovery 2's blown 4.0L V8 & boring ZF auto for a Cummins 4BT 3.9L turbo (Holset Super HX30W) diesel 4-cylinder engine (Bosch P7100 pump) with an NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD 4x4 will remain with the LT230 transfer case divorced behind it all, & plenty of Dodge 6BT parts too. Another big phase of my custom DIY build to create a do-just-about-anything off-road / overland rig. Did I mention it's a camper too?
~ DISCLAIMER: Please do not do/repeat/imitate/recreate anything I do in my videos. JUST DON'T! It can be very harmful to bystanders, your person, your wallet, & your psyche. Don't risk the only "meat vehicle" you get! Авто/Мото
The final step before firing it up! ...unless I've forgotten something or find a huge leak, so I'd say it's time for fluid fills. PARTS: All the silicone hoses & t-bolt clamps from Vibrant Performance, all the mandrel u-bend pipes from Summit, & the "Jobber Do" bead crimping tool is from Ebay.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series. I’m excited to hear it fire and see it move.
@@smallblockfuelie Been well over a year hearing this engine run, let alone driving the truck... so me too! I think it'll be a great sound :D
Tinker and the guy who HATES your other ride will be happy. 🤪
Tinker finally !!!! 😭😭😭 someday My Range Rover Classic will be Diesel too
Yes yes YESSSS
A supreme fabrication job. Better than factory. Well done👍
Thanks, it was fun for a relatively simple job.
Love the nod to AvE with the t-shirt!
Hopefully all this work keeps the schmoo where it belongs.
@@Tinker1837 Nah that's some excellent fabricobbling there
@@MbanziSD Thanks, can't wait to hear it chooch!
They say that God is in the detail. Plenty of godliness there!
Thanks :)
Almost done tinker !!!!! Woooo I am very excited to ear the first fire it up
Same, so close!
Dude the anticipation is killin me!
Same! I'm ready to hear that turbo sing it's song.
@@Tinker1837 you already dun started it didnt you lol
@@Tinker1837 you're holding out!
I forgot....is that turbo a Borg?
@@gaboonviper85 Wish I was! Been gathering up all the fluids the last few days. That's a Holset "Super" HX30W turbo, tricky to get your hands on, but just about perfect for a big single.
@@Tinker1837 oh ok that is a good turbo for sure.... what's your power goal?
Damn that engine bay is looking good!👌
Starting to look like it wants to start up!
It"s really enjoyable to watch this kind of work that you do. What amazes me is how you think about every single detail in the build process.
It slows me down but it's fun to fiddle around with all the details the way I've always wanted to.
The X's on the test joints!! I'm in stitches!!!
It works a bit better with zipties... Ha!
That pipe tool is amazing
Sure is, so simple!
Old reference at the beginning but worth the laugh and fitting. Another great video. Cannot wait for it to start.
My best intro ideas end up just randomly happening like that haha!
A work of art, I am not sure I could bring myself to drive it in the MUD!!!!!
I probably shouldn't be so picky with something that's going to get used hard.
Oh yeah , love the pipe bead making tool !👍👍👍👍😍
Thing has paid for itself several times over at this point :D
Love the greasing the exposed threads on the hose clamps then covering with rubber cap trick. As a big believer of using anti-seize it's the perfect way to keep them rust free.
Right, and saves your hand getting sliced up when wrenching in there! That's a trick I learned from the offroad world that I'll always use if I can.
That AVE shirt is the Cockford Olly! She's a skookum choocher, I'll tell ya what
I'm trying to channel it's power to keep all the schmoo in where it belongs with these pipes.

Thanks!
You wont find this level of qualty work anywhere . You inspire me . Great work .
Thanks! Definitely pushing my level of work on this project.
I'm SO glad I only found this channel yesterday. I've watched all 34 Disco episodes and I'm not going to have to wait long for the first start! :D
Haha! Good timing for you, & I'm sure there are a bunch of people getting impatient with me by know :P
I wasn't liking the block in Cummins Beige, but now that you have the pipes painted I have changed my mind.
Same! Coming together now with the black & beige.
Wow- that was an ancient reference- the warriors- and I got it!!!! Now fire that F*@K3R up!
Glad a few people got it & hell yeah you bet!
Another example of your great attention to detail, workmanship and video skills.
Love the grease/rubber nibble idea.
Your going to have a huge power bulge on the bonnet, or hood as your may call it.
Thanks :) Yeah it'll save the skin on your hands & I've had fasteners come apart like butter even after 5+ years of salt roads & offroad running. I've got an idea for the bonnet, something from the muscle car era 😎
I can’t wait until it runs! Watched the whole series, and now I’m going back to subscribe and give it all a thumbs up!!!
Same here, very exciting :D
You sir are truly a craftsman. Thank you for the video.
Thanks and glad you like!
I love this man. A man with skill of all kinds.Solute you dear

Super well done video! Great stuff! Waiting for the next ones! Greetings from Brazil!
Thanks! Next one very soon I hope :D
Have been throughly enjoying enjoying all your video content and eagerly await the arrival of the next posting. Keep up the content and style. Great fun! Can't believe there are just over 10K subscribers.. Come on everyone !!
It's been weird trying to find a balance between informative & entertaining... that & actually getting work done haha! Blows me away that there are anywhere near 10k let alone more than that now 😮
aaaahhh the rubber caps.... who does that ? .....Nobody that's who, you are doing an excellent job.
It has saved my butt more than a few times with offroad builds, & thanks!
Parabéns pelo profissionalismo, organização e qualidade no serviço e finalização nota dez!
Thanks! Very fun project :D
Dude this video is awesomely hilarious and you're a master fabricator to boot.
Thanks man! I still have a lot to learn, but it's damn good fun.
Very good job of professional and the quality video, tank you very much for the good moment. Champion.

Thing looks bulletproof. 👍
Lots of work but well worth the effort!
This was fun to watch. Thanks. And well done
Glad to hear it :) I try & keep it entertaining while getting work done.
Looks amazing and I bet it’s a blast to drive
Hey thanks! And oh yes... it's so good!
You see the difference between you and me is that i would have become impatient by now, done stupid shit and fired it up and wrecked something haha. Wow though, great work... like always.
Oh don't get me wrong, it's taking every drop of self control I have to not do just that!
Love the warriors, good movie.
A classic!

the scissor cut was awesome... 😆
Lots of power in those things haha!
Just wow and green with envy.

seeing this makes me more confident in my charge pipe routing for my turbo 4runner as it won't require any bends thank god lol.
Nice! Which engine? Yeah I thought it was going to be much worse, but was really happy it only needed real simple pipes.
@@Tinker1837 Thanks! and its an 06 so it has the 1gr-fe v6. I actually just got all of my custom exhaust back from my welder and installed it today. I went with a rear mount setup but this will supposedly be the first one thats been turbo charged, as you might imagine its a lot of research and learning along the way. It sounds amazing lol. I'll be posting a video in the next few days
@@diywrenching4072 Oh yeah I feel you on the research & learning bit, but then again being one of the 1st to try someone is pretty fun. I bet it does sound fantastic! I'll keep an ear out for it 👍

Excellent job
Thanks, it's a fun project!
Man that is such a better engine than what came in those, but the Disco was the best factory 4x4 I've ever owned. I even rolled it on it's side and was still able to crawl out of the hole, no oil pressure most the way LOL.
I liked the way the old V8 sounded... but that's about where the likes ended. They might not look like much from outside, but you crawl underneath & things become apparent!
I had a 02 year D2, little ol 4.oh V8. It atleast didn't strand me till I blew the engine, thought the trans would go first but neah the engine had enough after I froze it solid with just water for coolant in the winter, thawed it out with hot water and went on down the road and the rad froze on it because it was so cold and I had no clue the rad hose came off, funny thing is that it snapped the cam.
Blam headgasket had went out at around 70k miles or something like that, was leaking oil before 40k... It made it to close to 150k before it was over, but I was VERY hard on the poor thing, 4" lift and 38s.
Not much on power but it sure never let me down off road, going places that my jeep couldn't get into (before I lifted and put tires on the rover, just stock). I'd love to have another but my 5th child is on the way and they aren't big enough for my needs..... I just don't have the money for a toy and that's how I view them in my situation. I brought my first child home in my rover, I wish I'd never let it go.... Ohh well.
Electronics were an outright joke on top of it, when I bought it it was 2 years used with only 17k on the clock, blame thing went through gas like it was nothing, put cheap fuel in it and you get to hear it knock like crazy, back when gas was over $3 a gallon and it was getting about 5-8MPG depending on how my foot was feeling. If I didn't manually shift the auto it would slam into every gear and shudder hard over it, this went on for a good 50k miles, I overheated the trans a few times over a leak in the cooler that I was too lazy to fix LOL. How that slush box made it that far is beyond me, I'm notorious for friggin up an automatic unless it's an Allison.
Anyways sorry for the long blabbery, I really have enjoyed watching, thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial.
Just stumbled across your channel. Had to subscribe just for the Warriors quote. Love that movie! The Disco build is cool too. LOL.
Ha! Glad you like, was not sure how many would even understand the reference (which is why I tossed in the image)
Loved that movie!!
Hey thanks :)
Very nicely done sir. Nice and clean for now. Got my sub.
Thanks! And yeah that "for now" part is something I keep reminding myself when I get carried away trying to make things nice.
@@Tinker1837 I haven't seen many of your videos yet, just seen the 4bt pop up and started watching. I am caught up on them and can't wait to see what y'all do with it once it's done. I definitely have to go back and watch more.
@@hilham89 I think maybe the youtube algorithm really liked something about this video because it still blows me away it has so many views. I've been dreaming of some big trips to do when it's fully road worthy, maybe an Alaska run.
@@Tinker1837 that would be amazing. I appreciate you sharing this with us on RUclips.
Look at all the LAZY thumbs down folks,,
This Rig is a thing of Beauty! Your attention to detail is Incredible!
Loved the start up video. Trying to source one of the 4bts for my ‘58 Ranchero project. Sure I’ll have purist haters but I’ll be cruising and they’ll be humping the gas pumps!
Great Job Sir!
W.
Hey thanks! Purists have their place, sure, but it can be a boring place too. Sounds like a cool idea to me! 👍
That looks so good I'm pretty jelly
Hey thanks :)
@@Tinker1837 No problem man. So i have a question: would having the internals balanced decrease engine noise in addition to harmonics or are the two things separate of each other whereby resucing harmonics is it's own thing and engine noise another? I'm interested in swapping a 5.9 12v into something and was mildy curious if it would work on a noisier engine especially the 4bt
Separate, & while I think a "blueprint & balance" could help a little with vibrations inherent in the 4-cylinder, but I don't think it'll help with the clatter associated with any mechanical diesel. That being said, the 6-cylinder is smooth as butter in comparison to the 4BT, as with most straight 6 engines.
@@Tinker1837 Oh alright thanks for the reply. Yeah now that you say it, it makes sense that most of the noise from a 4BT would be because it's fully mechanical Idk why I couldn't handle thinking of that lol.
@@02honeydew It's all good! There are so few mechanical diesels around anymore, let alone 2-stroke & air-cooled diesels, so it's understandable :)
Crackin me up when he says something when it’s not n high speed 😂😂 sick build 👍👍
I have a knack for switching between squirrel voice & stupid comments haha!
I like the 6061 style
Had to look up what you meant (assuming you didn't mean the grade of aluminum) & now I have another interesting channel to check out, thanks!
