  • Fixing the issue with my P7100 / P-pump throttle lever and finally on to the real road testing!
    ~ PART#45 in a project dubbed "Nanuuq" to swap out my lifted Land Rover Discovery 2's blown 4.0L V8 & boring ZF auto for a Cummins 4BT 3.9L turbo (Holset Super HX30W) diesel 4-cylinder engine (Bosch P7100 pump) with an NV4500 5-speed manual transmission. The AWD 4x4 will remain with the LT230 transfer case divorced behind it all, & plenty of Dodge 6BT parts too. Another big phase of my custom DIY build to create a do-just-about-anything off-road / overland rig. Did I mention it's a camper too?

    Ok second think. I' m a little afraid about your health. I mean that exhaust seems very near of cabin air intakes and near too of front windows. Think that at certain speed all exhaust gas or a part of them maybe can enter on passengers places. Think about it please.

      Thanks, was a real head scratcher since I've never been into an injection pump before. The outer ones just appear that way because the covers are grooved to scatter the spot beam into a flood. I love those lights, they are so powerful! I don't think they make them anymore, but here are the specifications if you can find something close: Aosi brand name, 9" round, 225watt. Oh don't worry about the exhaust, just temporary for fun until I build the snorkel and full exhaust with muffler :)

    Upshift at 2500, downshift when 1500
    If you drive in constant speed, try to adjust your rpm around 1500-2000 rpm. If you accelerate, increase 2500 then upshift and so on

    Just spitballin', but the yoke on that linkage looks a little thin at the upright, 3:38+ looks like it had been wearing for some time. Bet you that the temperature will come up on some long grades, or in the summertime. What is it about the transmission that is so different ? Great days to you and yours, you must be stoked with how it is shaking down. Pretty minimal dilemmas considering how much work in so many areas and systems you have done !

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  4 года назад +4

      Even the new one seems thin in the material between either leg of the yoke & the stem of it... but from what I can tell it's not from wear but cast that way. I'm beginning to wonder if somewhere in the process of building my throttle cable mounts / bracket if I managed to crank on the shaft or hit it with something to cause this. Because the more people I ask the more rare it sounds like this failure is. Oh for sure & I already have fans, just need to build a shroud to hang 'em. It's not so much the transmission is different as the whole thing is, only ever driven a diesel twice & it was far from your run of the mill truck. I've just been into real high revving imports for so long that this whole "shift with no throttle input" thing is throwing me for a loop. Yeah these sorta speedbumps are something I expected & if this is all I encounter then hell yeah I did okay haha!

    What year NV4500 are you running? Also any chance you have a part number or year range from the bell housing? As well as which adapter plate off of the engine do you have. Finally looking to mate up my 4bt to a 94 Chevy NV4500 but I know its gonna take some additional tweaking to make work.

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  4 года назад

      The year I'm not too sure, since it's a hybrid built from new & upgraded parts. The engine side's based on a Dodge 4x4 Heavy Duty Diesel truck with the big clutch + big bearings, & the tail's based on a Chevy 2x4 Heavy Duty truck. The bell housing is the Advance Adapters part meant for the HD Dodge diesel (with big clutch/flywheel), & the adapter plate is the same (from a 6BT Dodge).

      Oh yes, in fact I've fiddled with literally every component in there. I still have plenty of fine tuning to do with turning the star wheel, adjusting the smoke screw, sliding the afc housing & plate, bleeding off the wastegate etc. BUT I did already grind my own plate profile, modified the AFC rack & swapped washers on the diaphragm for more fuel travel, 4k gsk, etc. Lots more power potential when I get head studs & injectors & fire rings >:)

      Tinker lol from all you’ve said I’m very impressed as well... I would say you very well have tinkered with most of it, yet still no smoke I guess if you want big results bump the pump but then risk heavy running heavy timing and possibly running away. All in all I know you will do good!

    • @Tinker1837
      @Tinker1837  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I'll take it a little easy on pushing power until I get the head studs installed (maybe fire rings too) but then I can get the bigger injectors in there & bleed off the wastegate so the turbo can breath past it's original 28psi. I already have the timing cranked as much as I think is safe (14.5deg if I recall correctly) unless I get a bigger pump, which I think is probably why the bigger turbo is working so well with the engine so far.
