Eating at Ron Gastrobar. Amsterdam. Michelin Starred Comfort Food

- I eat and review Ron Gastrobar in the Amsterdam-Zuid (South) section of Amsterdam. The establishment is the product of chef Ron Blaauw who converted his two Michelin Star establishment “Ron Blaauw Restaurant” to the more casual Ron Gastrobar, which later earned its own Michelin Star. The restaurant serves a number of casual but “elevated” food like mac and cheese. After my dinner, I eat an oliebol (a Dutch and Belgian donut) from Oliebollenkraam Leidseplein.

About Me:
I live in NYC and I’m about food, travel and work.
Foods in Michelin star restaurants are always visually pleasing. But at the same time, I can never imagine how it would taste like.
I know what you mean! Sometimes appearances can be very deceiving, but it's always exciting to experience some truly unexpected flavors.
Dude, been a fan for a long while. Love this one. Always quality videos. Keep doing your thing!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
I am very surprised you don’t have larger following. You are one of the best in RUclips. I strongly believe that large gathering of followers will come soon
I hope so! Thank you so much for the kind words! I really appreciate it!
The meal looked delicious & that cute mini cone was a sweet parting gift🍦❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yeah, the cone was a fun touch!
It's very comforting to see foods I recognize during your fine dining adventures! I can't say I've had mac and cheese with chicken liver very often, though.
Yes, it's really refreshing to see a fine dining establishment offer their take on comfort food classics.
I'm headed back to Amsterdam. Went last year. Never knew this place existed. Thank you
I hope that you have a great trip.
It all looked good and very interesting Mac and cheese bowl but hey I would try it too…keep it up man
Thank you! Yeah, it's always exciting to eat at a restaurant when they offer something unique even if it isn't perfect.
The original spare ribs looked amazing, I bet it tasted great! Too bad about the mac and cheese at least the other dishes made up for it. Great video and keep up the good work!
Indeed! The spare ribs were my favorite! Yeah, I was hoping to enjoy the mac and cheese more, but it was still a great and satisfying dinner.
Very cool experience! I have yet to make it to Amsterdam, but a starred dinner for under €100?! Awesome! I love sambal, I'm gonna have to try that! (My Christmas gift to me was a vertical smoker 🤫) And, I'll always hit up street vendors and carts.... Usually the best! Safe travels!
Thank you! Yeah, Amsterdam is definitely more affordable than NYC and the exchange rate to a US dollar is very favorable to the dollar. Wow! That's a nice Christmas gift! I bet you can make some great food with that.
woooow, I wish I could have a bite of that spare rib. 🤤
I'm still thinking about those spare ribs. They were so good!
Before or after the marathon? I was waiting for some more food videos from Amsterdam. You should have wuffed down that icecream cone. An excellent tour of food!
Thank you! This was definitely after the marathon. That was one of the worst parts about the marathon was that I really had to be careful with what I ate in the days leading up before the race. Once I finished however, that's when the eating fun really began!
@@Jamesnu i know how that goes with long races. No wonder you were so hungry
@@NoahEats Haha!
As a Dutch guy, I have to admit that I'm not a big Fan to Ron Blaauw's franchise concepts. Even you had to report: yeah, it's nice... BUT!
Just like the English have their Indian cuisine, we adopted the Indonesian kitchen. Ron has a franchise in my hometown: Bar Bankoh.
He tries to bring family cooking to a next level, but just like your experience it leaves you hungry with an empty pocket.
We have so much better offerings. Order a rice table, or in Dutch: rijsttafel. It is served as a party meal on special occasions. Omptious and rich. A restaurant in my hometown tried to sell it as a tasting menu. They are long gone. This what will happen to Ron. We have a lot more offerings that won't leave you with craving and a feeling "mew"..
Although I appreciate a quality star meal, this one does not represent a better version of a meal I can get home ordered. Don't mess with is allready good and try to be pomptious about it.
Having to hurry up and not being able to eat a desert?!! Mayby common in the USA, but not here. In a restaurant you are allowed to feel comfortable and at home. One Michelinstar?!! Soon be gone...
I appreciate your perspective. I thought some of the dishes I had that day were good, while others like the mac and cheese, fell a bit short. I like how the restaurant does try to innovate with certain foods, but clearly not all of them can be a success.
So here is another Sichuan frog 😂
Haha! Yeah, I've been eating a lot of frogs lately!
Oh noooo that mac & cheese dish looked and sounded great as well, how disappointing. Like I am so sad for you right now lol
Haha! Yeah, it sounded promising, but it didn't deliver. Still, I appreciated the restaurant at least trying to create something unique.
Didn’t you try lobster
I wish I did, but the food I had during this night was excellent!
