- Abel hits the streets of Amsterdam for the best late night food in this Dutch city. He starts the night off at an Amsterdam institution, Cafe Schiller in Rembrandt Square, for the fried balls of dough and meat known as bitterballen, or “brown gold,” before biking over to Roopram Roti, a Surinamese restaurant that serves the city’s best roti.
After a few more drinks, Abel heads to FEBO, a vending-machine restaurant that serves burgers and sandwiches, and talks to a few Amsterdam locals. He ends the night at Metsut 2 for kapsalon, a dish invited in the Netherlands that's made up of French fries topped with shawarma.

Some people really don't care about it cause they been living their whole life here but the water is absolutely disgusting.

A friend of mine once jumped in and landed on a old bike that was left in the water. Yeah that hurt a lot with loads of blood. You never know what underneath, don't jump in it.

@Mary Gan Not sure the original invention of vending machines had thought of people consuming marijuana in any way, I highly doubt that. On the contrary, this business literally runs off of stoned people, and face it, where else have you seen fast food sold out of vending machines en masse? I know I haven't seen that elsewhere.

FEBO actually stands for Ferdinand Bol wich was the street the first FEBO was gonna be located. They came up with the concept of the snackwall and it became an iconic snackbar in The Netherlands.

😂 my vegetarian friend wanted one of my bitterballen…..but I had no idea if it contained meat…..I said I think it does…..for some reason he thought I was trying to trick him into eating meat…..then all of a sudden he grabbed a freshly cooked one and rammed it into his mouth before I could warn him of the mouth burns I knew he was receiving. I looked shocked…..he looked shocked…..he knew how badly he f’d up.

Dope episode. This seems more like something a young person would do during a night of partying. Reminds me of when I was in college. You don't go the the fancy restaurants, or even the best looking ones. Just the ones where the food is affordable, good, and where you can chill with your friends. I'd like to see more episodes like this.

I live in Amsterdam, and as an expat let me tell you I still don't understand dutch completely, between several similar encounters, I've seen a dutch guy dive into a canal and loudly say: "gezellig man" (gezellig is their word for deep coziness, enjoyable, community) so... yhea, she was prob dutch

Kapsalon is french fries covered in shawarma and garlic sauce and sambal and topped with cheese. Then it goes in the oven till the cheese melts and finally topped with lettuce. Not that. That is a shoarma schotel.

@@OPTIC23100 Cool, but my point is, that this Dutch dish was invented around 2003 according to Wikipedia. Donner meat & chips is kebab meat on top of chips (fries), which has been a thing since I was a kid.

Oh and many people commit suicide by drowning themselves too. I think about 20 people a year die in those canals.

I love Amsterdam a lot. Really fun city. Most people who don't know what this dude ate at the second location is basically Indian food. We were at this surinami place, a surinami guy spoke to us in fluent Hindi. He figured out we were Indians. We were surprised that even after 100s of years they still speak Hindi as their second language.
PS: history lesson, Around half the population of Suriname is Indians and javanese people brought there by the Dutch east India company as Indentured servants.
As an indian i dont see that as indian food, you havent seen it from up close, their style of making food and spice mixtures tastes a lot different from what we eat at indian restaurants.

I had no idea drunk people eat this! I live right next to a kapsalon joint that won a price at some point for best Turkish food diner of the Netherlands. I have fond memories of running to that restaurant with friends and eating there during free periods in high school because it was just the best thing ever! Nowadays it’s my comfort food. I thank the Turkish people for having introduced this to us because our traditional food is plain af 😂

I love the Dutch beer calture it's a lot more liberal and civilized than here in Canada and Australia America or UK same thing with Germany Belgium and Japan France Italy Portugal Spain Chile. Where people drink to enjoy themselves. And excessive drinking. Is not part of the calture.
