Great vid. One of the few vids that shows most of the hallmarks of Dutch cuisine, which is more versatile and interesting than most Dutch will admit. Glad you enjoyed it!
Just ate at Bakers and roasters today. Had no idea it was a new Zealand themed, it came across as Portuguese to me - had pictures of Brazil and christ the redeemer on the wall, had bom dia on their cards and the flavours suggested Portuguese as well? Are the owners new Zealand?
My tour guide honestly told us don’t expect any good foods in Amsterdam. He asked “ have any of you seen any Dutch restaurants in the world?, we answered NO”. 😃
Today I just found your video , I was in Holland last year, but never went to that market.I am Chinese was born in Indonesia and live in US now. I love Indonesian food. Thank you for the video ❤
Wow!! what a great eye-opener. The food guide/tour looked so yummy I couldn't stop wanting to go there. Everything was good comfort food. I loved this video. Thanks for sharing.
So glad you liked bamischijf, it is one of my favorite snacks. You can also get nasischijf here which is the same but with (Of course) nasi. Not a huge fan of that one though. Suddervlees/stoofvlees and hachee are also by the way really great on fries.
What a video! We're off next week and you have given us so much inspiration, which is heartbreaking as we are only there for 36 hours!! Thank you so much ❤
Thank you! This is a wonderful video! I've been bingewatching videos about Amsterdam for my upcoming trip. All I heard was Dutch food is terrible, but all of those dishes look spectacular. I look forward to trying them all while I'm there (will be there for three months, ha)!
Hey guys 🙂 Nice to see you enjoy the food scene in my place of birth! I think you had a good cut through the range of food we love in the Netherlands. Really liked the appreciation for the Indonesian and Surinamese food. It's my recommendation for food to try in the Netherlands. So now I live in Belgium and you will visit Belgium (you're probably there now?) Where will you go? 'T Spinnekopke ? That's very popular among visiting tourists. Traditional Flemish food would be "Witloof" with ham and cheesesauce. Witloof is a very local vegetable. Stoofvlees met frieten/ Frites Carbonades is a real hit. Garnaal kroket is a delicacy (Shrimp croquette). Brussels /Liegois waffles are great but not around the Grand Market /grote Markt. The waffles are great just plain with some sugar dust and maybe with some "slagroom" if it is not from a spraycan. Please do not get tempted to eat in any of the restaurants in the Rue des bouchers ; absolute tourist trap!!! I wish you would stay over at Antwerp/Anvers/Antwerpen. I could show you some real good food! (I live there). Antwerp is more beautiful than Brussels. 😛 Brussels does have a good number of Asian restaurants all situated together.
Hello!! Yes, the food in Amsterdam was fantastic!! Our next 2 vlogs are from Brussels and yes we did eat some of the dishes you mentioned! We did have Witloof and Carbonades at a restaurant called Fin de siècle shortly after arriving in the city but didn't do a full vlog on that sadly 😢Antwerp is definitely on the list next time we visit Belgium! Thanks for watching 😇
When I started watching this video I thought "He had better mention FEBO!!" lol I had to wait until the end but you did not disappoint : ) I am back in the Dam in August and plan to check out a few of your suggestions.....good video!!
I believe the Korean's came up with all of the small bite dishes called banchan. I suppose it's like noodles that were actually first made in China and now famous in Italy. idk really know food history so don't go verbally attacking me all u foodies lol We can just enjoy all of the most scrumptious foods the world has to offer!😋I really enjoy your channel tyvm yummm lol munchies hahaha
Many thanks for this video, it was instrumental in my holiday planning! Especially the de carrousel pannenkoeken, vleminckx , albert cuyp market recommendations with benny's chicken, as well as the herring recommendation. We couldn't find bob's friet though, and sadly Rudi's apparently closes wednesday's (when we were there) although there was another stall that made them fresh which was really good too. But mostly thanks for Moeders, we ended up eating there multiple times it was the best place we ate at by far. We were going to try Hap Hmm, but they close at 8pm for some reason so just went to Moeders again.
I watch your channel from Brussel and now Amsterdam where I stay for 4 years. Many shop you recommended are good shop but all of them really popular for (only) foreigners that local people say ….Muahh it is easy to search all this popular shop on internet but there are not really best actually.
So basically it’s either fast food or snacks, the majority being deep fried. What a culinary treat it is in Amsterdam! 😂 (The only healthy or at least ‘culinary’ element would be the Indonesische Rijsttafel, which is basically …. Indonesian). As a Dutchman (from Amsterdam) residing in SE Asia, I can honestly say there is no food I miss from The Netherlands, here in SE Asia.😅
Been there 11 times from Cali. Portifino center is best pizza. I are the best fish in chips in the world there. Then next trip they where gone. ( Because Dutch didn't get it) Dampkring has great tosties!
Thank you for such comprehensive videos! I just binge-watched your europe trip. Anyway, may I ask, if I only have time for 1 dutch eaterie, would you recommend Moeders or Hap Hmm?
Thanks!! We personally preferred Hap Hmm especially its more local and homey vibe!! Also it was cheaper from what we remember. Altnough the Dutch Rijstaffel in Moeders is great for tasting alot of different Dutch dishes and definitely has a more unique atmosphere
Do you know where the name kapsalon came from? It means ‘hairdressers’. In Rotterdam, a hairdresser wanted a quick meal and asked the grillroom to put everything in one bowl: fries, meat, salat, sauce, cheese. He was so happy about it, that he would order the same thing over and over again: ‘just the hairdressers meal please!’. The grillroom put it on the menu, it became popular and now you will find it everywhere in the Netherlands.
Never tried patat speciaal with parmazan, that is just upselling a patat speciaal for tourist, making an extra euro on a portion. But the upselling in itself is typical Dutch 😂 we are entrepreneurs afterall.
Voor stroopwafels, Van Wonderen is a bad choice. These are not even authentic Dutch, with all kinds of additions that don't belong on a stroopwafel. This is just to please tourists who are clueless. For good value stroopwafels visit a supermarket.
This was back in February 😊 Hopefully they're closed just for a holiday otherwise there are a lot of other herring stalls around the city that I'm sure will give you a similar experience!
We ate at Sinbad the day we arrived in Amsterdam which we didn't do a vlog on. Don't remember having chocolate cake in Paris but we did have Profiteroles with chocolate 😅
a) beautifully made b) sad that you followed a 'tourist' list of things to eat e.g. no sane Dutch person would pay 15 euro for 1 stroopwafel You have to like the 'very old'-dutch cuisine (a mix of german, english, dutch, french cuisine). During winter, I personally adore "zuurkool met rookworst". Today the dutch cuisine has more and more influences from other cuisines: East Asian cuisines (India, Indonesia, Chinese, Japanese, ...) and Surinaam (Latin).
Had dinner at Moeders yesterday on your recommendation and unfortunately it was below average. Same dishes as you had, potatoes cooked in different ways..everything is bland and unremarkable, definitely not worth the money. 😢 the atmosphere is like a factory canteen for a quick bite.. Strange that you were raving about it 😢
van wonderen stroopwafel we tested, im sorry but it was the worst one i have eaten in netherlands. and it was crazy expensive the best one i got from a little truck in the streets of Leiden.
Sorry, but you haven't eaten a delicious applepie if you try to convince us that the one from Winkel 43 is the best in the world. I live 7 min walk from there. I was there twice. Once it was quite tasty, the next time so so. Surely far away from the best. Fabel Friet? Just commercial stuff like many more but more expensive 😅 Stroopwaffels? Just go to a market and buy them fresh for 3 euros instead of spreading infos about this tourist trap.
I don't agree with Van Wonderen Stroopwafels, overpriced. Paid 14 euros for a big one, waffles are not made right there but they just put caramel inside FA. STROOP was much better and better priced. And regret that I hadn't tried the ones from the market
This is mostly a laughable list of overly expensive tourist traps. Ordinary, low-end, snacks and dishes that can be found anywhere in The Netherlands at a far better price. Bamischijf, really?
