Ha! So 3 years after the fact (since I am a relative Catherine newbie), I see what preempted the final pj finale video(that I only watched several weeks ago)! 😊🎉❤
Oh my goodness! It's taking me FOREVER to edit the next video! It didn't take that long to sew up 2 sets of PJs, but the editing is taking FOREVER!!! Hopefully I can post Part 2 this weekend. Thanks for watching Part 1!
I've been watching many similar tutorial videos and yours is the best by miles. Thank you for the thorough and easy instructions - you are a great teacher.
I love making patterns from favorite garments. One thing I do differently is that I lay my paper and garment on a folded blanket and use a hat pin to make a series of pinpricks around each garment component. Then I play dot to dot on the paper pattern with a smear proof pen and repeat the outline adding the seam allowance. For various necklines, I leave a hinge of paper to fold down the most used neckline.
After watching this video the first time, I was looking at the large bag of cat food that I had and wondered if the empty bag would be good for pattern making. It would be a little sturdier than the gift wrap and possibly more suitable for multi use garment making. Thanks for the awesome videos
OMG, that is such a great idea! It'll make good pattern paper and it'll keep you cat food bag out of the landfill. Win win!! It might just smell a bit fishy, lol.
Thank you. This is a timely video. I was just debating on whether to buy new summer pjs or make my own. The ones that I last bought were so badly made that I think I’ll make them. I hate off grain pjs! I use left over wall paper for my pattern paper. They really last!
I ran across your videos today. You are doing projects I have been needing to do for a while. Several t-shirts to expand &/or repair. Pants & pj pants to cut off & hem. PJ pants I cut out in the spring (I made pattern with Christmas gift paper too from pj pants I had) I have to sew them together. I'm adding yoga type waist band & taking wrist bands from t-shirts I cut off to make sleeves 3/4 length to bottom of pj pants. You have answered lots of questions I had for my alterations in progress. Thanks
Regarding fashion rulers, how would you describe advantage/disadvantage between 18” and 24” Fairgate Vary Form rulers? I have another clear hip ruler, but I am thinking about changing. I would want mostly when working with pant patterns. Thanks for your insights 😊
I don't know anyone who calls is "armscye," either, and I've been sewing for 50 years here in the USA. I think it's a fashion term that "sewists" use, not just plain old home sewers use.
For whatever reason I cannot click on the link for the ruler. It just says tiny url but I found one on Amazon it's Fairmount I believe for like 22$ thank you
Oh, yes! I see the one you mean on Amazon. That's perfect! I've changed the link to that one. You might have to copy and paste the link into your browser.
@@abbeycorbett8568 I'm not sure why they're calling it a French curve. To me, a French curve is a different thing entirely. As it is pictured, it is a hip curve, and exactly the kind that I like.
Im cracking myself uo here.. "arm side"😂 I bet whomever told you this was acceptable rhetoric was from Florida.. Yup. The Panhandle of Florida... (if you know, you know).
I'm from the US & we use the word arm hole, as well. When I was in sewing class many, many years ago (over 40 years ago)..so, did our instructor.
Good to know! I like the term arm scye, but it doesn't come naturally to me. It's like I'm trying to be fancy, lol.
Never heard the word arm scye, I say arm hole as well. American here.
Must be a professional tailoring term, never heard of either.
Hi Catherine. Nice to catch up again. Keep on sewing ❤🧵👍💃🏽🌺
Thank you Kathrine, I really enjoy watching your channel!!! ❤❤Judy❤❤

Great ideas! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've had a curved ruler for ever but never used it. Watching you use it has been really helpful
Oh, thats great to hear! A curved rule is a great tool to have!
Thank you for the straightforward tutorial. You have taken the mystery out of pattern-making.

Congrats on breaking 500 subscribers! You keep making great videos and you'll get to 1,000 in no time!
Thanks so much! It's definitely gratifying to reach a wider audience, so 1000 would be GREAT!!
Great learning how to make a pattern with wrapping paper.
Thank you for a very useful video
Great! So glad you like this one! I still wear those jammies all the time!
Love the shirt you have on. Would like to see it too
Thanks! I made it in this video: ruclips.net/video/kn35sAUz4uc/видео.html
Hi dear, I took a photo of my exact same stripped fabric and color pjs for christmas
Thank you. This is a timely video. I was just debating on whether to buy new summer pjs or make my own. The ones that I last bought were so badly made that I think I’ll make them. I hate off grain pjs!

Wallpaper is a great idea! And cheers to DIY PJs!
I never thought of that! Perfect for that leftover roll. My mother uses wallpaper to line drawers. It holds up well since it doesn’t get moved around.

Wow, Marisue, I love the sound of all your alteration projects! Good for you!! So glad my videos are helping you along the way!
Wow, so much info! I’m a little overwhelmed but will definitely try sometime. 😁 Not quite ready yet... 😬
Also you mentioned in one of your videos if we were interested in making our own slopers for pattern drafting. I would be VERY interested in this.
Ok, great! I'll add it to my TO DO list! It's wonderful to have a sloper that you know fits you perfectly, so I will get on that!
@@CatherineSews thank you so much I really appreciate it
I would also appreciate it!
This was a nice intro to making a pattern from an already made garment. However I did have trouble seeing all your lines due to glare on the paper.
Amazing sharing new friend here too sissy 🛎👍❤️

The 24" vary form is all I've ever used! It hasn't let me down yet.
great share 👍👍
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Question : how do you make a pattern from something that is gathered to a yoke??? Do you have to de-construct it or are there rules?
I don't know anyone who calls is "armscye," either, and I've been sewing for 50 years here in the USA. I think it's a fashion term that "sewists" use, not just plain old home sewers use.
Ok, good to know! I'll stop second guessing myself then! Thanks!
I'm from USA & never heard it called armscye either until I started watching RUclips. I also still prefer to be called a sewer, not a sewist.
USA Here, it's an armhole lol and I'm a seamstress. Not a sewist or sewer. 😊
Ossum share dear stay connected
Thanks for watching!
Full watch
I’m from the southern US Texas, and we always said armhole
What leangth curved ruler do you recommend? 12 in or 24?
Definitely 24". There is a link in the description to the one I like. I think you'll like it too!
I live in the US and have never heard the term "arm side"!

@@CatherineSews Thank you
So I see this one is advertised as a french curve and others are not labeled as such. Is there a difference? Thanks so much for your help!

@@CatherineSews It most definitely isn’t a French curve. This must have been written or named by someone who doesn’t sew.

Armhole in Australia
I see a pattern here. Hahaha
I hope so, lol. Thanks for watching!
@@CatherineSews Always ready to throw my support behind you!! =)
@@authenticbatman Thanks so much. That means a lot!
I am 70 and have lived all over the U.S. and all I have ever heard is arm hole.
