Where were you when my kids and grandbabies wore these fantastic pajamas bottoms...You do great with teaching, explaining your ideas to others. Can't wait to see what have for us next.
Thank you! Made a pair of lightweight pants for my grandson who has eczema. This is so easy, I will be making him a whole bunch more for the summer. Due to the eczema, he cannot wear shorts. Truly, thank you ❤
I’m 55 years old and new to sewing machines. This was so much fun to watch. I can’t wait to try this. Thank You so much for teaching this old dog new tricks. I didn’t have the advantage of anyone teaching me to sew, so videos like this are so much appreciated.
You are so inspiring. Long time sewist here. You did amazing. I make my granddaughters jammies out of flannel jammies from grandpa or other family members. Great way to repurpose
I have viewed several videos to make PJ pants without a pattern. Yours is the clearest to understand. Appreciate your explaining each step in detail and not rushing through. I cannot believe you were a new seamstress at the time you made this video. Thank you so much! 😊
Making them with my 14-yr-old daughter right now. We are both total beginners, but we(she) have a new sewing machine. I never realized that the hardest part is not the sewing, but rather the measuring and cutting. It's challenging but super fun. Nice video. Thanks. And we think you have nice hands.
Pin the ends together. Then Just run your hands along the elastic in the casing too, you can feel it, to make sure there are no double folds in it which become uncomforable.
I've watched a LOT of tutorials on how to make pj pants without a pattern and I have to say that yours is the easiest to follow and you make it much less confusing. Thank you!! I also love the idea of making a shirt to match! Love watching your videos :)
I am a sewer and I thought you did an awesome job. There is no wrong way to do something if it works for you. Don’t pay attention to anyone that criticizes, which I hope they don’t, I’m enjoying all your videos as I also have a cricut and the presser thing.
Beautifully taught! You are indeed a seamstress! This was a o easy to follow. I have one regret which is it’s 4:37 in the morning and I’m resisting the temptation to get up right now and try this. I’m going to take a cat nap and try it later.😅 Thank you so much.
Wow, this is the best tutorial I have ever viewed! You have explained every little step, thank you, thank you, thank you, you made it so clear and so easy, can’t thank you enough.
Thank you so much! I had a horrible sewing teacher at school, she was always yelling at me and so I never thought I could sew. However now we are in lockdown I decided at 61 years old to give it another go and have just made a pair of pj pants for my husband. They aren't perfect but they aren't bad either. I am so proud!!!You have given me the enthusiasm to continue and now I'm going to try one of your other patterns.
Thanks for step by step talking explanations. I was so confused watching others. But I rather hear you talking instructions detailed. You make it so clear! Thanks. I’m a newbie visual sewer! 🧵❤️
I know this video is a couple of years old now, but I wanted to thank you and echo others' comments about this being a simple, straightforward and clearly explained tutorial without waffle. I'm also not a seamstress - I took up the sewing machine in June of this year, but having made some simple skirts I'm now looking to replace some of my pyjamas with something that will fit me better (most women's pyjamas go in where I don't so if the trousers fit, the tops don't), and I was concerned about my ability to re-create the bottoms. This video has just shown me that I can probably do it with little trouble. I'd already dismantled an old top that fits but which is dying of old age, so now I shall be doing the same with an old pair of bottoms which also fit (but the top expired a year or more ago), as now I can see how easy it is to put them back together. Never again will I experience the frustration of trying to find 100% cotton pyjamas that aren't pink or covered in cutesie icons or inane slogans. Normally, I end up resorting to men's pyjamas because they also tend to be about half the price of ones made for women.
Hi Lorrie. Your tutorial on making these pajama pants is really simple and very easy to follow. My sewing machine was sold at a garage sale by my husband so now, I am getting my Moms sewing machine. I have six boys and using this method to make them pjs is going to be perfect project for me. I haven’t seen in a long while but I used to. My Mother was an amazing seamstress and made most of our clothes when we were younger. She even made me a black evening gown with a beautiful green shawl that went with it. Everything she did she did amazingly well. Thank your for showing us how you make your pjs for your grandchildren. You’re the best Lorrie. Most sincerely, Katz Baugh
This video is older, but I hope you still read the comments. I've been thinking about buying a sewing machine because I want to make my own, and my friend some fun, romp around the house, pants. Your tutorial is fabulous! It makes me feel empowered, like I too can do this! Definitely saving this video and subscribing! Thank you!
I've been trawling for ages trying to find an easy way to make some sheer lace pj style bottoms for over swimming costumes, under dresses. It's all been results that were either too many steps, or a complicated way to sew, or make a pattern... Till your video. This is what I've been searching for! I'll do draw string on the top, and elasticated bottom on the legs, but this is perfect. Thank you for doing and uploading!
This was great! You took the confusion out of diy pj bottoms. The first pair (using your method) fit my 4 year old grandson perfectly. He was hesitant to put them on for a “fitting,” but then didn’t want to take them off! I am a happy Grammy! Thanks for the detailed, but easy to follow instructions!
I’m new to sewing, making my own PJ pants is what sparked my interest. I’ve watched several RUclips videos on the subject and I haven’t come across anyone that could compare to you when it comes to explaining things. If you’re not a school teacher you may have just missed your calling. Thank you for a fantastic video. I have a Simplicity pattern and I can’t make heads or tails of it. You’ve boosted my confidence, I’m gonna try your method.. What’s the worst that can happen, extra handkerchiefs.👍
This is amazing. I’m a nurse and a grandmother. I learned how to sew during this pandemic. I made masks and surgical caps for my co-workers. I was looking for a pattern to make pj’s and found this. This is great! Thank you.
I am a sewist and I make my PJs both tiny and adult in exactly the same way!! I don’t believe in doing anything the hard way and this is the best way to make these! Also works for Summer weight trousers, especially for little girls and grown up girls!! Love your style!
Hi Lorrie! I just had to comment. I came across your video while I was looking for some ideas to make my grandson a pair of pajama pants. I have been sewing for 50 years but since I didn't have a pattern on hand I thought I'd check out youtube just to see what ideas people had. I was all set to make my own pattern with a pair of pants he already has but then I happened to see your video so I watched it. I must say when you started explaining how you made the legs and then put them inside each other to sew I thought to myself "what in the world is she doing?".......LOL...... well as I continued to watch and saw the end result I decided to try it myself and wow! I'm impressed. This was a totally new method for me and I like it! So Lorrie you have made my day. They always say we learn something new everyday and this was my new thing for today so thank you! I really enjoyed your video! I hope you have a great day.
My Mother-in-law gifted me a sewing machine recently and I am just getting my feet wet with it. We took a trip to the fabric store and I bought some Christmas fabric on clearance. My thought was to make my little guy some PJ pants. This was so helpful!! I can't wait to try it out!
I love this. It reminds me of how my mom made our PJs. I'm sure your children and grandchildren will remember these fun times as well. God bless have a great day.
While the kids were growing tall but not wide, I used keep extra fabric. When needed, I sewed a cuff on the bottom to extend the use of the pants. Sometimes I added a solid to a pattern or vice versa. They looked cute. Some fabrics were lightweight and could be made into sleep shorts. My husband called one pair the "pj's that keep on giving" because they got passed down. (The older one was not happy since they were his favorite!) No Cricut for me back then but my daughter has one and she gives it a workout. She made t-shirts to wear to Disney and someone saw the pictures and ordered a bunch for their family -- twice! It's easy to find each other if you all wear the same shirt! I think you did a great job. I love your sets! I would say you are a seamstress, if you are sewing. Your methods work and they are easy so why isn't it the way to do it? Keep on doing it! 😍
I have watched heaps of tutorials on how to make PJ Bottoms without a pattern, and I must say Thank You for making it less confusing and easy. I am going to give this a go and make PJ bottoms for myself and also a PJ top to match which is comfortable for me.
Thank you, I'm learning to sew, watching you made it so easy to do, bless your heart, I'm a little late learning, 60 now, so thank you to for this, blessings.
WOW....thank you so much. I'm an 86 year old great g'ma that doesnt sew, even tho I have a machine used mainly for tips and tears. I've run out of gift ideas for 7 grands and 5 great grands. Now I'm inspired...everyone wears pajamas! But first I'm following your directions for a pair of lounge pants for ME! First project = Seahawk pants! What fun!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, I'm having lots of thoughts and they're all good. I promise. Won't bore you now. I'm loving your thought process alot. I'm almost 65 and have been sewing from age 4, no lessons other than very sm. amount in jr. H. school. I despise patterns, mostly for the prices....etc. You have inspired me to give it another try. Thanks again 😊 👍.
This is the best non-pattern project. I am new as well and self taught and have NO idea how to read or use a pattern. Thank you for sharing this. Awesome tutorial!
Oh my gosh! I have been sewing for years and have never made bottoms like this. Going to try tomorrow! I always learn some little gem watching your videos. TY Laurie
Terry Weister I totally agree with you...this was also the easiest method I've seen...too bad I didn't know this a few years ago when I was making my grandsons PJ bottoms using a pattern! What a mess I made! Yes, thank you, Lorrie!
This guide was very useful, thanks. One thing I did learn though was that the back pieces need to be a little wider and angle up slightly at the back waist band, to allow for the butt to stretch the fabric. If you don't do this the back waist band sags down at the back and the front bunches up as the butt takes up more room than the flat front of the body. I guess this is only the case if you're going for a more tailored result and baggy Pjs as you made won't be affected, plus also depends on your childs physique. On my second attempt I just used the larger back template to cut out the fabric, then trimmed the front pieces and it turned out a much better fit!
I think so , too. My sister in law is my seamstress since I was I grade school till I put up a tailoring shop in 1998 she was one of my seamstress . She taught me the same thing you do, as well as my other seamstress. It’s more comfy that way...
Lynn Lamoureux if course it should be that way but I find when making toddler and kid pjs it honestly makes no difference as they don’t have a “bum” and a waist yet lol
This is sooooo ingenious for using T-shirts for the tops and make any design to match the bottom on the shirt wow I’m so blown away!!!! I will tons for my grand daughter thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!
Self-taught too and find patterns downright confusing. I’ve been sitting on a pj pants pattern for some time now and just realized...I don’t need it. I’m going to pull out the fabric (pink cotton with cats) and follow your instructions. Glad I have a favorite pair of pj pants to use as my pattern. No adjusting as I know I would have had to do with the actual pattern. Thanks so much for your easy to understand directions😺
Love this video! Thank you so much! My grandmother used to make her own patterns for my mother & Aunts with news paper and following what she saw in fashion magazines. Mom said she could make anything. Thank you for showing me how ! I can hardly wait to make some pjs for my grands. - Following with my bell turned up.
Lori this is a great tutorial.. I'm hooked...I have 2 grandsons 6 and 3 and our first Granddaughter 2 weeks old... sewing the leg hem first is an awesome idea... Thank you
Wow you teach me how to sew in an understandable way. I am completely new to sewing as I got a sewing machine for Christmas from my husband.. So now it will be night trousers for all the grandchildren.. And yes google translate is the one that helps me write as I am Norwegian and not so good at writing a lot in English
Excellent tutorial!! Followed right along easily, only took a couple of hours from start to finish. Used my favorite pj bottoms that have almost turned to dust and resurrected them. Thanks!!
Hi Lorrie: Ive been sewing for over 30 plus years (whos counting) and your voice is so nice to listen to and you have made making pjs so easy. I have two grandsons and I am going to copy their favorite pants as well as my own...some patterns that you buy seem to be "all over the place"...thank you for taking the time to do this.. and have a wonderful Christmas
Lorrie, actually your garment construction for these pants was just fine and correct. For an older child or adult, you might want to trace a pair that has a different front crotch and back crotch, and possibly include a side-leg seam. Sewing down the hem on the pieces before they’re sewn together is called “flat construction”- it’s not “wrong”, and totally makes sense for itty-bitty kid or baby pants. You kept saying “I’m not a seamstress”, but you’re actually doing things just fine! And the best part? You demonstrate and explain things so clearly, I bet everybody can follow you and be successful:). I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager and I favorited your video so I can follow especially the pattern making part.
I really like your pajama sets so adorable awesome job and thank you for making it so simple I am going to be using your method so much easier than trying to figure out a pattern.📐👖👚👕📍✂️
Thank you for keeping this simple for beginners. The clips are a great idea, those pins can be so dangerous around kids, especially when they get lost in the carpet.
I find you today February of 2020.... and see your video for jammies is from 2018... anyway, my overwhelming need to say something comes from your PERFECT voice, tone. The best of any instructing ways I've ever seen. Big hug, high five.... and my thanks to whomever at fb put you right there in the recommended pile ...🎈
I love this!!! I've made several sets of PJs for my grand kids, I buy the tees and embellish it with a coordinating design. My grand kids love them. Quick and easy. Thanks Lorrie,!
For PJ tops I buy the XL men's t-shirts at Michaels when itheir on sale. The bottom edges of the t-shirts are shortened and the rings of knit are made into hairbands.
Great tutorial! I just watched many and really wanted to see how to make pattern from a pair of pants! I already know how to sew them but learned a few tips and tricks to make it easier.
You say your not a sewist but you did an excellent job with this. I've been sewing for many years and I love how you do the hems at the bottom of the pant leg - especially on children /smaller pants, so much easier than trying to fit that small leg around your sewing machine throat. Might not work for fitted pants - but for PJs or sweats this is a great way to do it! Thanks!
I searched for sewing pajamas pants and was surprised your name and video popped up. I follow you for Cricut stuff. Absolutely LOVED this tutorial. I've watched many, this is hands down the best one. A million thanks!
A after a few disasters with pj pattern I followed your blog and bingo one pair of pjs that fit Thankyou so much you were so easy to follow making my own pattern Can’t wait to watch your other videos ❤️
You have. Given me inspiration. Your video is clear and not scary or confusing at all (I am a total beginner, do not understand patterns and am learning to sew and teach myself). Seeing your video I am going to make these. Thank you so much x
Thank you so much!! I made my first pair with a pattern tonight with no help and it took me about 4-5 hrs without putting the elastic in. Can't wait to try your method...It looks like a no-brainer. Thanks again.
This is a fantastic tutorial! I’m a beginner and a lot of tutorials assume everyone has a surger, so I’m glad you mentioned what order and how to do the zig zag stitch! Thank you! I’ll be making these for myself! I’m plus sized and can’t find a pattern in my size to save my life! So this will help me a ton! You rock!
The first time pj's next week, I have 6 grandchildren and one great grandson, the way you explane HOW to sew is fantastic gives us the confidence we need, THANKYOU!!😍😘
Love your video. Going to teach my adult daughter to sew for her little ones and this will help tremendously. I bought her an old kenmore for $5 at a yard sale. Lol let the fun begin. Thank you.
I am a total beginner and have not begun actually. Will buy a sewing machine on Black Friday I hope. I think your video was very informative and I learnt a lot. But. I wish you had showed when you were sewing too. Never mind. I will watch a lot more videos before I start myself. Thanks for your help and try not to bother about rude comments. If there are any, they are just jealous :)
This an exceptionally smart way of cutting pj pants! As a long time sewer I would recommend that you sew the middles first, waist down through the crotch and back up, making a big u-shape. Then go back and sew from hem to hem in one long seam.
These are darling! You certainly seem like a seamstress to me! I especially love the buffalo plaid set that you shared, with the bear silhouette. Perfect to mark a family trip to the mountains.
This is great, Lorrie! Much like you, I am a novice at sewing. I can barely read a pattern. I know how to work my sewing machine somewhat, because I'm self taught, so it probably does more than even I realize. So, this was absolutely perfect for me. Thank you SO much!! 💗💗💗
Wow just now see this kind of tutorial...now i know how to make pajama....your.video tutorial nice and clear easy to understand....thank u for sharing...God bless u
just bought a new machine never sewn in my life this is really an eye-opener for me thank you I really appreciate it you did a great job and I'm going to try it myself I'm going to try to make my own coveralls I'm a man and I've always wanted to try it thank you for the information
What an amazing video! I usually use patterns for my pajama pants, but I do not like having to cut out four pieces. I love this two piece approach, and how when you made the video you don't skip any parts! Thank you!
The reason for the side seam in adult patterns is that the fabric may not wide enough to cut an entire trouser leg. Another thing to note is that the front and back crotch curves are different. For a child, there’s less difference, but as adults the pants will be more comfortable if the back curve is longer than the front. There are still ways to trace a pattern from existing pants, but pay attention to the front and back curves.
When holiday wrapping paper goes into the clearance bin, I'll buy a few of the thicker paper rolls. My best purchase was IKEA. Heavyweight brown craft paper with squiggly gold/silver lines for 0.25 ¢ a roll.
Thank you so much Lori for a wonderful teaching video for pj pants..I am a novice sewer too..I love your simple and nice way of teaching us..thanks so much..I have many nieces and nephews and I hope to start sewing now..God bless you and your family❤️🙋🌈🌹
Thank you, going to try making this for some little boys in need but as shorts, love this tutorial as I am new to sewing. Your very good at explains everything!
Just want to say that I made my first (and second, and third) pair of Pajama pants (for myself, an adult woman) by watching this video! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. The PJs were my first sewn garment, and your instructions made it so easy! I hope you and your family are all well.
I'm a brand new sewer. This video makes me feel like I can do this! Thanks so much for them. I watch so many of yours bc they're no nonsense and you make the directions simple and NOT complicated like others I've watched. And your final projects are adorable!!!
I love this after years of making PJ's for my kids. They are grown now. I like this easy PJ. Pattern going to whip up some PJ's. Beats buying patterns they are expensive. And craft paper can make up more than 1 or 2 patterns. Thank you
Thank you for your video. I’ve seen many pant sewing videos and yours is the easiest. My trouble is the elastic. I can’t wait to try it. You make it look so easy. Thank you.
Your video is great its simple and easy, you did a great job. I learned how to sew when I was twelve and I always dislike making pants because one legs would always come out slightly longer than the other. I am going to pull out my sewing and try out your method. Thank you for sharing.
i managed to make these in under two days for my moms last minute xmas gift, and this tutorial is an absolute lifesaver. thank you so much, the level of detail is extremely helpful and this is so easy to understand :)
Truly, thank you ❤
Because of you, I just made a real pair of lounge pants. I’ve never done this before and I’m self taught. Thank you. I truly appreciate you.
Wow how I wish I can buy new sewing machine...wish list

This is about 3 years later and this is still one of the best videos on pajamas I have seen, thumps up to you

Agree with you simple and easy to follow. Not complicated
🙏🏻
What kind of fabric are you using??
@@tanyathorpe4355 I think she's using flannel. That's what I usually use for PJ pants.
Amy Burgess Thank you!!

What fun!
Lord!! Hemming these pants like you do is genius!
I commend you! You not only make the directions clear but your voice is pleasant.
Do you have a easy fast way to make sleeves
I see nothing wrong with your video or methods. Your pj pants and shirts are adorable.!
The best and easiest tutorial ever on how to make pj bottoms, will definitely use your method from now on.
Gerrie Louden Bell thank you so much! 💛
I really like your pajama sets so adorable awesome job and thank you for making it so simple I am going to be using your method so much easier than trying to figure out a pattern.📐👖👚👕📍✂️
I loved the video and you were very good at explaining step by step directions! love it!
Lorrie Nunemaker lorrie
The back of the pants need to be a little bigger from the crotch to the waist in order to fit the bum area.
Love this. I really appreciate your logical approach. No idea if it breaks traditional sewing rules, nor do I care! Thanks for sharing your cleverness
This is the easiest pattern and instructions to follow. Made my first PJ pants for my daughter. Thanks!
You rock!
Thank you so much. What a brilliant video. First garment I have ever sewn. Grandson a very happy boy.
The first time pj's next week, I have 6 grandchildren and one great grandson, the way you explane HOW to sew is fantastic gives us the confidence we need, THANKYOU!!😍😘
Great video you made it simple going to give it a try Thanks😊
Love your video. Going to teach my adult daughter to sew for her little ones and this will help tremendously. I bought her an old kenmore for $5 at a yard sale. Lol let the fun begin. Thank you.
Fabulous! This is the easiest pj's tutorial ever.
Meg Staton as I always say, do what works for you. I find this is the easiest way for me.
These are darling! You certainly seem like a seamstress to me! I especially love the buffalo plaid set that you shared, with the bear silhouette. Perfect to mark a family trip to the mountains.
Just whipped up my first pair of pants ever using this video, super stoked! Thanks so much 😀
This is great, Lorrie!
This is the second time sewing pj bottoms without pattern. Superb job with explanations. I’m well pleased with tutorial. Super pleased with pjs. 😊
just bought a new machine never sewn in my life this is really an eye-opener for me thank you I really appreciate it you did a great job and I'm going to try it myself I'm going to try to make my own coveralls I'm a man and I've always wanted to try it thank you for the information
I realized that, after making pants for myself and realized I need some extra room in the back, haha!@@rmonogue
A good paper for making patterns is the left over rolls of gift wrap we all have laying around.
When holiday wrapping paper goes into the clearance bin, I'll buy a few of the thicker paper rolls. My best purchase was IKEA. Heavyweight brown craft paper with squiggly gold/silver lines for 0.25 ¢ a roll.
Yes!!! I love the ones with the squares it’s basically pattern paper.
Thank you so much Lori for a wonderful teaching video for pj pants..I am a novice sewer too..I love your simple and nice way of teaching us..thanks so much..I have many nieces and nephews and I hope to start sewing now..God bless you and your family❤️🙋🌈🌹
who cares what's 'right'??? if it works...it's RIGHT!!! I love learning from your videos!!
I’ve been sewing for years and you did a great job. I will be trying this method. Thanks.
Exactly, its many ways to do same thing.
You make it look so easy! You're a great teacher, I love all of the tricks and tips you give. Thanks so much awesome job!
Thank you, going to try making this for some little boys in need but as shorts, love this tutorial as I am new to sewing. Your very good at explains everything!
Ive made my kids the most beautiful pjs ❤ thank you so much!
Just want to say that I made my first (and second, and third) pair of Pajama pants (for myself, an adult woman) by watching this video! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. The PJs were my first sewn garment, and your instructions made it so easy! I hope you and your family are all well.
Looks perfect to me.Your pjs look like they were done by an expert sewist.
The best video/tutorial that explains how to cut the two pieces at once! Thank you! X
Thank you so much! Haven't sewn in 30 years and your process is right down my alley! Can't wait to get started. It seems so simple and uncomplicated.
Love the way you explain how to make this p.j's, it is the best pattern out there.
Love this tutorial I have seven grands and this year I think we will all have matching pjs thank you
I'm a brand new sewer. This video makes me feel like I can do this! Thanks so much for them. I watch so many of yours bc they're no nonsense and you make the directions simple and NOT complicated like others I've watched. And your final projects are adorable!!!
You did an amazing job I made two pairs in less than 2 hours for the first time ever. Thanks for all the wonderful help in the video.
I agree with you on everything!💖💖💖💖 thanks. Ace sounds like my sun🌠
I love this after years of making PJ's for my kids. They are grown now. I like this easy PJ. Pattern going to whip up some PJ's. Beats buying patterns they are expensive. And craft paper can make up more than 1 or 2 patterns. Thank you
Ive just sat through several DIY PJ pants for Beginners and yours will be the one I return to when I begin making my first! Great Job!
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a beginner sewing person and I've had trouble figuring out what people do when they sew pajamas. I got it!
I love your method. I am not much at sewing but with what you do you make it look so easy for someone like me. Thank you for your great videos.
