    Always interested to see a comparison against your own clubs Al, those ones you bought for a reason. It's the same as when any golfer is out looking for new clubs, they want to compare the performance, feel, looks etc. to the clubs they currently use, it makes the comparison realistic and is something people can relate to. Keep it up, it's definitely interesting to see, given I am thinking about a new set of irons.

    We always talk about how forgiving irons like these are. They do keep the distance on off center shots. However because of the weight being very far back and low they have much more gear effect. This produces more flyers and also similar toe draw and hel fade.

    Al, you really don't need the forgiveness and the stronger lofts that these Wilson power bats bring to the game. Because, well, you are a beast.
    I, on the other hand, do. And, I have no compulsion to burden myself with a knife bladed forged iron that I could only hit with authority 35 years ago, so there is that.
    That probably falls into the category of age and treachery overcoming youth, enthusiasm, and talent every time, I think.
    I especially like how much tighter the Wilson clubs were in dispersion with your swing. Point and shoot, indeed.

    I truly believe that hybrid clubheads are the wave of the future. They provide distance, forgiveness, good shot dispersion and are easier to swing if fitted properly. I think the various brands who market these are making a big mistake in labeling these as just "game improvement" clubs for beginners, seniors and ladies. I'll bet that 70-90% of golfers will trend to hybrids over the next ten years!! (Me? I am in the process of switching from cavity back irons to hybrids too!).

  • @johnkokott8570
    @johnkokott8570 2 года назад +1

    Very interesting comparison. Makes one wonder why anyone would play a blade. Nobody asks what iron did you play today? Everyone asks what did you shoot? With the forgiveness from the Wilson, why not play them?

    • @jcgolf159
      @jcgolf159 2 года назад

      I do believe he mentioned it. It isn't all about distance, and for the 11 yard distance the game improvement irons did provide it was all roll-out. For the better player you want precision with landing and knowing your approach shots will hold the green instead of rolling out over the green or rolling onto the green and at the mercy of the bumps and slopes on the green 🎯

    • @jcgolf159
      @jcgolf159 2 года назад

      ..when I was a higher handicapper I bumped and ran the ball onto the green with my PW but as I became better I added SW & GAP wedges to my bag for precision and proximity to the pin. Feel: game improvements have no feel and are too hot around the green, meaning they jump off the face of the club even on delicate chips in my experience.

    What's crazy to me is that the Launch Pad has better standard deviations than the Miura's do!!! Miura is kind of letting us down with this. Getting beat up with those ugly Launch Pads! The whole point of blades is for control and the tighter standard deviation and the Ugly Pad is beating them in the most important part of it!

  • @justinstephenson9360
    @justinstephenson9360 2 года назад

    starting with the PWs, the difference in loft is 3 degrees, almost an entire club difference so a 10 yard difference in carry is to be expected, what is not expected is the spin number for the launchpad, functionally identical to the Muira. That is a very good start.
    8i is similar. There is a 4 degree difference in loft so I would expect a 12-15 yard difference in carry and around 1000 rpm difference in back spin - and Alex's actual results are pretty close to that, certainly within margin of error. If Alex had tested the launch pad 8i against the Muira 7i which have similar lofts I suspect the results would have been functionally identical.
    Finally the 6i, same story there is a 3 degree difference in launch which explains the difference in carry distance but the difference in back spin is a little less than I would have expected although still within margin of error.
    When you compare a Launchpad to a similarly lofted Muira MB 1010 blade the results will be functionally identical, but the Launchpad is obviously much easier for those with a slower swing speed and I would guess that the Launchpad is more difficult to shot shape with, but as that is not what it is designed to do that is hardly a criticism

    DJ is using a 9wood, most, not all, but most Pros have changed out their last iron to a 'more' game improvement, hotter face, higher MOI type iron - and we are now seeing some male Pros change out their longest 2 irons - most LPGA Pros have 2 hybrids as their longest irons. 7-woods and Chippers seem to be the hottest clubs on the market. I honestly think you will shoot the same score with both sets of clubs - which means 90% of the public should be using them.
