We want to make the C30 faster and better than ever. The only down side is she currently makes an awful noise coming from the front end. Today we take a look to see if we can diagnose a potential major issue... Or something simple God willing!

Almost 99% sure that it's a bad constant velocity (CV) Joint or bad wheel bearing. Raise the car, put your hands at 9 and 3 on the tire, and try to wiggle the tire left to right. If there is play in the wheel it is probably a bad wheel bearing. Noise when turning usually indicates a bad CV joint.

It's getting to be quite a long time...
Did you find out what the "Horrendous Noise" Scrapping was- besides the Inner Fender?
MY 1st guess was to check the tires for anything that might be Stuck in them; even a Rock in the Tread.
The Pavement you were driving on, Which was Not Dry - made it a bit Unclear what the sound was. Was it a "Scrapping" or "Rubbing" sound?
When you were talking about the Brakes; I'm not sure if you looked at the Inner Pads, but they are the ones that will wear the most!
As for the Back Plate, Messing with them can only cause more Scropping; and it can be almost impossible to repair them.
Taking the Wheel Off and Turning the Router by hand - while the Wheel is Turned might have been what I would have tried.
    Just about Dozen Guesses left.

If not the wheel bearings, check the Axle boots if sound come when turning only

I have a feeling there’s something going on with the bumper position if the noise is coming from tire rub on the inner fender. If the car was in an accident on that side, which is likely given the paint work to the fender, it’s likely the bumper is pushed in

Mine had similar noise. Ended up being strut mount and bearing

Common issues on C30, S40, V50 and C70 (sharing the same front end) are known for gravels getting stuck between the brake shield and brake rotor (you can get it away by reversing and braking a couple of times), but also poor constuction for front wheel bearings, prepare to replace them now and then (get the tools to save money). Another issue are the splines between drive shafts and hubs, they need to be lubricated if you take it apart, and if you loose the center bolt, replace it (usually is included with a new bearings).

I remember seeing another video out there of another C30 making a noise while turning and it ended up being motor mounts.

Maybe its the tie rod, lower ball joint or the lower bushing. Mine are aftermarket but they squeaked when turning left and i just re-greased them and the noise went away. but id check lower ball joint or axle too.....

So, it’s rubbing through the front of the fender well on one side but not on the other... Maybe one wheel is farther forward than the other? Have you checked that yet?

I had to replace both rear wheel bearings on my 2006 XC90. Roaring noise. I thought the tires were bad. My Volvo shop said they had never had to replace bearings like this before. 158000 miles.

Wheel bearing maybe. I've had the worst luck with my 850 wheel bearings. If not, probably the outwr CV joint. You can best check the wheel bearing with the wheel on. Another thing you can do is swerve back and forth, and then see if the brake pedal gets soft.

I dunno man, sounds like it's the tyre rubbing the liner to me, I've had the classic stones between the rotor and shield and that is very loud and extremely alarming. Either pull the liner and test drive on a clean surface (so you don't throw crap into your belts) or lower the car onto blocks under the lower arms so the tire is just clear of the ground and run the test you did in the video. Bearings or CV joints would be noisy both ways I would think.

Check lower wishbones with a crowbar to try to see if the arms have to much play and also check the ball joint if it as any play.

Saw you have the whiteline kit installed, not sure when you installed it but 2 things to check with that. Make sure its installed correctly P lobe facing down. And make sure it didn't loosen and slide forward.

Also there will be a torx screw on the underside of the car (for the “inner fender lining”)

Check your steering rack limiter and alignments. They can wear down and cause rubbing

I also forgot to mention, check your brakes, sometimes gravel or rocks get caught in the brake shield, had this happen last snow we had
