I like the way the shocks are attached on this car. My daughter and I are replacing shocks and shock mounts on her 09 S60 and the metal sleeves the bolts thread into on the shock mounts twisted loose from the mount when removing it. Had to spend an hour trying to get vice grips in to hold the sleeves to finish removing the bolts so I could remove the old shock mounts. It was a great demonstration that things don't always go as expected, and sometimes you have to just be creative, and be persistent when dealing with old equipment or cars. You'll like how easy it is to replace the front end components on that car. Volvo did a good job making it super easy to work on the front suspension.
That is very satisfying , throwing out the old parts . But what's even better is the sound those parts make when the garbage collector empties the cans . It probably wakes up the entire neighborhood !
cheapest "stock" upgrade is putting focus st front rotors and calipers on and a mazda mps or mazda speed in America sway bar. makes the car a completely different thing to drive. balanced chassis gets rid of that hideous understeer volvo thought was safe. Contact Rob at Hilton performance for a great value tune and removal of torque limiter for the auto.
"Probably not worth it on the base" I would think the base model would be even more receptive to a suspension upgrade than the factory sport suspension.
As far as I'm aware the only major differences are the shocks and springs? (and maybe the anti-rollbar?) All the arms and geometry is the same. So imo its probably well worth a spring/damper upgrade, or coilovers.
John, here's a tip for your flying enjoyment. An EUC will easily fit into just about any small plane and will give your great ground transpiration almost everywhere you choose to land.
Change the TCV on your C30, I did mine and it made a world of difference, the car has so much Power now. Also on the C30/S40/C70/V50 they are on top of the turbo and overheat over time causing the solenoid to stick. Also the stock one from FCP Euro is good enough, don't use the IPD version.
Nice mix, cars and airplanes. When I first started flying one of my friends had a Cherokee 140 and we would fly from Clemson S C to Myrtle Beach for lunch. That is a trip complete across the whole state. One time we fly down and couldn’t land because of a 35 knot cross wind so we fly back to Clemson and had dinner instead. Love flying but had to give it up for health reasons. I enjoy you channel.
Wellcome to Volvo life!!! Shocks Bushing and of course... CONTROL ARMS!!! Really different from my S60 and my XC70.. well FORD FOCUS...MAZDA3 INSPIRATION!!!
I use a Mazda 5 as my work van, which is based on this platform . Control arms every year... All the rear suspension bushings are shot, but the van is 100% reliable and the 2.3L makes good power!
@@alexandrecouture2462 yes suspension is the week point on this platform. Same thing with the volvo s60 or xc70. But is not the worst job to DYI. So, I prefer it vs change a transmission...
Have you thought about a late model Kia Sorrento all wheel drive project. I have one and like it. The all wheel drive come in handy in North Carolina foothills.
Yes! You always do a run up after you have shut down. Read the checklist. After you are accelerating down the runway in attempt to takeoff especially at a soft field or short field you do not want to try to diagnose why you’re not getting full power. Technology will give you great insights but you have to do the tests to identify any problems prior to taking off.
I remember back in1982 when I was taking flying lessons and flying to so many places to eat. It was a lot of fun and we were in a 152 most of the time back then. See about going for a ride in a bi-plane with a good aerobatic pilot, you will love it if you can handle it. My instructor was also the aerobatic instructor and took me up in a couple aerobatic planes on my 3rd flight after he jokingly said to do an aleron roll in my 2nd flight so I did before he had a chance to grab the wheel. The 152 we were in didn’t have an inverted oil system so back to the airport we went smoking. Thank god we didn’t catch on fire from the spilled oil. Anyway there are so mst thx
For those replacing CV's on these cars, definitely buy the OEM ones. All the aftermarket ones are terrible. I've had one of the aftermarket ones explode on the freeway. Just buy a used one in good shape and reboot/grease it.
You can still do B4's on any suspension package - also look into mazda and ford parts for the suspension to get even cheaper - Moog mazda6 quick struts are $105 and even give you some lowing.
The Mk2 focus that we got in Europe & Asia was never sold in NA. Instead, they got a weird looking version based off the original Mk1 Focus. I like it but it wouldn't be for European tastes.
Need to replace my swaybar end links to.. i have S40N with the same end links. Any tips/hints for my replacement? I have the OEM volvo links.. really expensive plastic parts. Yours does not look OEM though. The OEM is plastic and has a more green color to them. 50Nm to torque the M10's down. Need to replace the shocks too some day.. really easy job. But to replace the springs it require spring compressors.. and is a little more fiddly but not hard to do. Just be sure to put the springs in the right positions and also replace all the rubber seats..

Huh, why not uprate the suspension? You'd see a much greater improvement going from stock base to a decent aftermarket. The performance version of the C30 has some minor suspension tweaks a quicker steering ratio and logos and body kit tweaks. A stiffer rear bar from a mazdaspeed 3 for instance would dial out some understeer. A flash and a larger intercooler and you can safely get another 30-50 hp. But I guess this is a fix and flip. Don't mind me and my scope creep.
