In our case though everyone got a severance package, let people stay behind and continue to work until they moved on got another job, in the mean time we got BBQs, was treated out to expensive restaurants, played football got paid for 1hr lunches, let us set up for a drinking party where everyone brought a bottle of liquor where management and even our own Boss came out to drink with us lol 😂.Let a few pple stay behind to help the riggers. Most interesting is this company has a monopoly on their segment - no competitors. Like Tyson, my employer used the services of 'labor relations consultants' firms to supply 'professional shills' to mix with the workforce.

We had three shifs come in the store on just my shift that I was working, 2 and 3 generations, whole family's working at the bacon plant across the street from the Handy Mart, this was a convienant store, we stayed open 24/7! , but one day we found out that tyson bought out the bacon plant and instead of keeping the folks in a job they all worked so hard at, every last one of them was given there walking papers, and tyson closed the bacon plant down with in a week of tyson buying the plant! Why do people still feel they will retire from a large corporation or company in today's climate? I would have said this 20 years ago as well. The likelihood most feel they will retire from a LMN company is not a guarantee. For most, there is a certainty of layoffs as lower-ranking employees, regardless of the years they've put in, will be terminated before retirement. This is still an on-going issue with many large companies, and it has not changed since the 80's. If a company's manufacturing 'operating costs' continue to go up, the likelihood is it will shut down where it is too costly and relocate to where there are better cost advantages; that is a standard operating procedure. And it is also standard procedure to either lay off employees or ask a few key-employees if they would be willing to relocate -- keeping in mind, key-employees. Those employees who are not 'key' are often seasoned low-ranking, lower-ranking supervisors, or new Jr. managers in specific areas that can be rehired for less money that what was previously paid on payroll. Reducing payroll is one part of the issue, and again, the operating costs: administrative costs, tax rates, regulations, permits, warehousing, and distribution, among other costs.
If you want a job you have to move. Tyson laid me and 50 others drivers off some 10 years ago. It sucks but you go where you have to to get paid. Some of the frozen stuff doesn't even resemble real chicken. Maybe just the leftover crap parts shaped as chicken fingers. Was hard to tell with all the breading covering a tiny unidentifiable product. Was totally gross and hit the trash for pickup to the dump where it should have gone originally.
