This was so helpful! I've been going crazy trying to figure out the differences between ことにする, ことになる, and ようにする. I do have a question. What if the subject of the sentence is not the speaker? Can I say みさ先生はカナダに行くことにした to mean "Professor Misa decided to go to Canada"? Do the same rules about ことにする and ことになる apply?

Can we use this pattern to say someone else decided / makes a habit of, or it was decided that someone else would do something?
I listen to Misa's videos in the background of other tasks I am performing. I Didnt think it was working for me until I watched an old TOHO Kaiju movie that wasn't English dubbed. Turns out I know more words and phrases than I thought. My problem is recalling these words and phrases on my own and reciting them. Thanks Misa.
Where I live in Australia at the moment the people collecting the rubbish sometimes check whether you put things in the correct bin, and will leave a card to tell you if you made a mistake. It might be silly, but I always feel happy and proud when I see the green smiley face that says we did it correctly lol, like a kid getting a sticker for doing good work

"yameteoku" means "to let the matter drop/give something a miss/knock off for the day", literally, "to stop and set it aside". It doesn't necessarily involve a conscious decision.
So what if I am at a restaurant and I say "ラーメンにします" ? Does this mean I omitted the "食べること" part out of my sentence? Since ramen is a noun 決める should be used as you mentioned in your video, or maybe not?
In terms of the scenario you have created, the word omitted is "注文(order)". Whether the statement is made to the person you are with or to the waiter, it is omitted because it is obvious that you are mentioning your order. (私の注文は）ラーメンにします。
Thus the first phrase is more of an instantaneous decision, whereas the second example indicates a decision which is ongoing in its outcome. Compare: I decided to quit drinking today. 今日から酒をやめることにした。 I decided not to drink (anymore). 酒を飲まないことにしている

やめておく also means to decide not to do something, right? What’s the difference between yamete oku and nai koto ni shita?
I mean やめておくand やめることにした
