Love the majority of QT's movies, but Jackie Brown has a special place in my heart. I lived in the South Bay for 35+ years and the filming locations in Carson, Hermosa Beach, and the Del Amo Fashion Center brings back great memories 😊

She left it for max to come and grab it - they can't find the cash in her, so she got Max to be the pickup for the bag. In the next scene or so he comes along and asks for the bag saying 'his wife left it in the dressing room'. They let him grab it and leave

I've been watching this since 1996 and still don't understand her plan and why all those people had to die.
1. Jackie Brown was arrested for smuggling. She formed a relationship with her bail bondsman, Max Cherry.
2. Ordell (crime boss) meets Max Cherry to bail her out so he can kill her so she doesn't testify for working for him.
3. Ordell fails to kill Jackie because she stole Max Cherry's gun and held Ordell at gun point to protect herself and to cut a deal with him to bring in the rest of his cash from Mexico.
4. The feds cut a deal with Jackie to trap crime kingpin (Ordell) with the next trip she takes to Mexico to retrieve a half-million dollars for him. The exchange of the money was to take place at the mall.
5. Instead Jackie elicited her bail bondsman, Max Cherry, to help her steal Ordell's money right in front of the feds.
6. Jackie gave Melanie (one of Ordell's ladies) only $40-$50K in a bag with a beach towel on-top.
7. Melanie gave the money to Ordell's partner Louis whose plan was to give the entire amount to Ordell.
8. But Jackie left most of the money inside another bag with a beach towel on-top in the dressing room for Cherry to pick up.
9. Jackie pretended to look stressed and scared when she left the dressing room because the feds were watching her and she had to fool them so they wouldn't suspect her of stealing the money.
10. Jackie told the store clerk she thinks someone left a bag of beach towels in the fitting room.
11. Later Cherry tells the clerk his wife left a bag with beach towels and she waves him into the room where he picks up and walks out with the bag full of money. Which he later gives to Jackie.
12. Jackie was successful in ripping off Ordell while also pretending that someone stole the money from her out of the dressing room to throw off the feds.
13. Ordell forgave Louis for shooting/killing Melanie but became concerned when he realized Louis gave him a light bag and suspected Louis of conspiring to rip him off and possibly Melanie's death was a ruse as she might be involved in the conspiracy. Then Ordell became angry when he hears that Max Cherry (of all people) was seen at the same mall. So Louis died for being being involved in set-up by Jackie and Cherry and Melanie died for being annoying.

Damn how’d did u watch the movie before it was released?
Jackie's plan was to rob the $500k from under the nose of both Odell and the ATF...
Odell's orignal drop off was done by a different black woman who stole the $10k.... so he got Melanie to do the swap as she isn't known to the police...
Jackie did the swap however instead of the full $510k she puts $40k on top so if they do a quick check (They aren't gonna check for the entire $500k inside the mall) it looks like all the money is there but she filled the bottom with books so the weight feels like it's the real thing... Jackie then puts the actual $500k in a different bag and filled it to the top with beach towels for max to pick up.
Jackie then acts like Melanie ran in and took the money so it looks like Odell double crossed her so she is in the clear with the ATF.
Max goes in and tells the attendant that his wife left some beach towels and simply says no one is in there so goes to collect the money...
In regards to the deaths.. Melanie was simply annoying Louis for being a common criminal and his anger got the better of him and he shoots Melanie once in the stomach and realising he COULDVE of killed he then KILLS her to make sure she don't talk to anybody.
In the car Odell checks the money and realises he only has $40k left in the bag and is wondering who scammed him...
Odell takes the gun out and checks the bullets NOT because he wanted to see if Louis shot Melanie but he already made his mind up that he was killing Louis for being sloppy.
He is deep in thought and knows if it was the police they would've taken the WHOLE thing.. He believes Melanie is dead so the only person it could've been is Jackie Brown...
When Louis tells him he saw Max Cherry, Odell gets her whole plan which was to give Max the money which in turn he would give to Jackie Brown... Louis after getting berrated by Odell tells him to lay off but Odell completley enraged he lost ALL his money shoots and kills Louie...
When max calls odell he tells max he knows Jackie ripped him off and says if she doesn't give him back his money, think of Beaumont who he killed earlier and if she speaks to the police, he will name her as his accomplice and they will go to jail together....
When Odell goes to meet Jackie, Jackie tells the police officer he has a gun and he shoots Odell dead which covers the $500k and she takes that money and is finally able to retire!
She is still sooooo fine.
