- This is one of the last CCI (Custom Coasters International) wooden coasters to be built. It opened in July 2001 and is one of just a couple of CCI coasters to use Gerstlauer trains instead of PTC (Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters) trains. Can you name another one that has Gerstlauer trains?
Wild Adventures is located in Valdosta, Georgia and is best known for being featured in the movie "Zombieland".

This ride was rough as hell but still one of my favorites

I was riding this back in 2002, shortly after it opened. It was rough almost from day one, but it was so incredibly much fun. Very sad to see it go as I think it had a lot of life left in it after a retracking, but Herschend has been bufu'ing Wild Adventures for years and probably didn't see it as worth the cost of maintenance anymore. And if Wild Adventures couldn't afford the upkeep on Cheetah as-is, there's no way Herschend was going to invest in a Steel Cheetah for them.
*Yes, I know Cheetah's supports were built as steel from the start. Can't remember if it was to save cost on materials or to make them last longer in the Georgia heat and humidity.
Steel supports definitely aren’t cheaper than wooden supports. They’re meant to reduce maintenance.
This ride no longer is at the park 😢
If this poor thing got a complete retrack and new trains, it'd be a top 10 woodie, easily.

It's nice for a classic woodie to get some TLC though. Ghostrider got stronger wood & millennium flyers and now is considered one of the best wooden coasters, although I'm sure it was very good before.
They need to RMC it honestly. A new coaster would draw so much attention to the park

thefemalearrow as a local, whose siblings lost many combined summers working at the park, Wild Adventures is not a park Herschend is willing to invest a roller coaster in. It’s ran like a write off park; the only new attractions are flat rides paid for by the selling of old rides. The only thing the park works to maintain is the water park addition, because it’s really the only draw for locals (Valdosta doesn’t even have public pools). It seems like a miracle that Cheetah and our SLC are both strong coasters, because if they hadn’t already been there when Herschend bought the park, they wouldn’t be there today.
I did that ride... And when we dropped My eyes went up they could not come down! Until the end

@@rainrle I’d much rather a classic ride just stay open. I can’t stand the way that RMC has made it even more popular to trash perfectly good wooden coasters and pieces of history. Incredibly sad in my opinion

This ride is extremely rough. Very headache inducing but still very fun to ride lol
idk if it'd be fun if it wasn't rough. it's so engrained in the experience. every time i go here, the line on this ride is little-to-none, so I've probably ridden this baby more than a hundred times over the years. it's like doing bathsalts but without the enjoyable part. i love it. probably have had brain damage at this point.
Weird, when I went it was pretty smooth. And a really long line 😂 everyone I’ve met that’s gone on it loved it. This is the roller coaster that got me to be a roller coaster fanatic 🤪

Cool that they're still running the original Gerstlauer trains on this. Not too many CCIs still running those.

This ride looked really rough and I feel it’s because of the Gerstlauer trains. Boss runs Gerstlauer trains and when I rode it it felt like it was on square wheels because every single inch of track was unbearably rough, down to the station and lift hill. It’s a shame they tore it down because the layout looked a lot of fun. I hope the park invests more because it really is a nice place, just needs some new rides to draw in crowds
Boss at SFSL runs with Gerstlauer trains and Legend at Holiday World opened with a Gerstlauer train but now runs with PTCs.
Also Mega-Zeph at the defunct SFNO had Gerstlauer trains.
Didn't The Villain at SFO also open with Gerstlauer trains?

Back in 2017 my dad went on this ride. He said it was fun but he felt like he broke his back. I had no idea it got tore down. That was the first time i ever saw a wooden coaster.

Step dad used to work at a wild adventures and has a crazy story about this ride. Apparently one of the tunnels weren’t checked before starting the ride and a loose piece of wood stabbed someone in the neck, barley survived.

It’s sad that this never got the RMC treatment and was instead demolished. That would’ve given Wild Adventures a true stand out coaster. Herchend never cares to invest and should therefore get sold off to another theme park operator by 2030

The word on the curb is its getting the RMC treatment. It definitely needs some kinda of treatment. It looks like a old worn down rough uncomfortable ass coaster.

They could rmc it into a steel coaster (it was hybrid from the start)
Believe it got torn down, completely, and it only had steel supports to reduce maintenance costs (not a real hybrid).

hence "back in the day". When I rode the villain in 2001 it was great.. A lot of people hated that ride, but all I can say is, that in May of 2001 it was fantastic fun. :) SO bummed that park was closed as I missed the classic woodie there and they demolished it. I remember it was also the first intamin impulse and vekoma flyer I ever did, as well as the first and lest gen 1 intamin drop tower I ever did (the ones where you land on your back).. I went there three times and enjoyed every time.. Oh, batman knight flight was awesome too.. now called dominator at kings dominion (thankfully that was not scrapped).
