What’s your favorite setting on the Sony FX30?
I just want to check.. does embed option actually bake in the lut? I thought that its just exported on the sd card or something like that?
So it actually places the LUT in the Metadata of your camera and provide a .cube file for the editor to use the exact LUT you used to monitor. It will not BAKE the color in. I misspoke here!
I finally switched to the Sony FX3, and by far my favorite settings in these cameras is the dual base ISO at the switch of a button (in Cine EI mode).

Do you record everything at 24 frames per second or 60 frames per second? Because I have a hard time deciding what to do so I record everything at 60 but I don’t know if that’s the best practice. Thank you for putting this amazing videos out there.
@@hvrtado I struggle with this as well! I’ve shot in 60 for so long it’s become a crutch but I am leaning more towards filming in 24 lately. Just have to remind myself to slow down more when filming in 24
I am curios how you mapped that button to switch between ISO bases? I have been filming for 25 years and cannot get my head around the CINE EL actually. But would rather manually just shoot with those 2 options which I always do, I only shoot 800 and 3200 on my A7IV and would like to shoot just 800 and 2500 on the FX30? But do not want to mess with CINE EL bc it confuses me and I know it is apparently "simple" but I prefer manually doing everything and rely on my False Colors on my external monitor and do not need the cameras monitor to show me what I "might" get or be getting. Hope that makes sense. But I would love to just press a custom key/button to have it switch between those 2 ISO's only. Always wanted that on the A7IV but it was not possible apparently.
Which CINE EL setting is that? Flexible ? and then map to the ISO button and it will just keep those 2 options when clicking it?
For the FX30, you would set your Log Setting to Cine EI. Then inside your Customizations for Video set your ISO button to Base ISO Switch.
Are you exposing for skin using spot metering at 70 zebras..also if you are using slog3 do you use a display lut...not one that is baked in? Does that effect exposure if you do? Or where zebras should be for exposing skin tones
Yes 70 for skin tones and for SLOG 3 I do use a display lut inside my monitor. I don't have a user lut imported since I run external monitors all day. For my backup Sony cameras I just use Gamma Display Assist.
Clear image zoom is fantastic. Only thing I wish I could change is it being a single button click like APS-C mode on my a74 is. I prefer that over the rocker switch.
Just got my FX30 last week, shoot a couple of jobs the last 5 days and really like it a lot. People claiming it is a B cam or idiots. I had the FX3 sold it a long time ago and actually really loving the FX30 so far... And yes watching some of your videos convinced me that is was good and it is , Thank you.

@@WaywardNorth Yes indeed it is, I had the FX3 and had to sell in the pandemic bc I needed to and video works came to a halt, I got the A7IV bc I got more photo shoots in my house while on lock down. I love the A7IV but over heating became a problem since I shoot mainly 60p 4K and maybe got a dud camera bc it seems to be hit or miss with people having over heating issues. Where I live even in Mild conditions it would over heat, I cannot imagine some where like florida in the summer at all. I also never really shot 120p with the Fx3 and never really shot 12.800 ISO either, Actually when I "needed" it it was over kill and had to add too much ND. At the moment I have the Tamron 17-28 2.8 and the 28-75 2.8 G2 and will get some faster fixed lenses maybe for the FX30. Looking to get the 11mm 1.8 or the Viltrox 13mm 1.4 and wait and see what the FX3 mark II may have to offer. But so far I am loving the FX30 and I do not shoot Netflix style videos at all so all the DOF difference between full frame and S35 do not matter to me.

70 for skin tones or highlights? Aren't highlights blown at 92?

I bought 3 types of sd cards because each time I have a problem with play back in quick time player. I experimented with each codec and bit. With my Mac book pro, it seems like I can only use XAVC S 4K 150M 4:2:0 bit. Each time I use 10 but, nothing shows up when I insert the sd card- it won’t matter if it’s v90 or v60 or v30.
My question is, is it my computer that cant handle 10 bit recording?

Couple of questions: I thought you were using the FX3as your primary (having moved over from the A7Siii), did you purposefully switch to the FX30? How many cameras do you bring with you when you solo shoot these weddings?
My current kit is the A7Siii, A7IV, and the FX30. I will occassionally rent the FX3 when I need an additional camera or want to use it for the heck of it. I generally have 4-5 cameras for solo filming, this includes Super8 as well.
I have a serious question. Do your couples pay more for your wedding videos or have you received noticeably more orders since you started using the Sony fx30? Compared to your Panasonic GH5? I ask because I sometimes have the feeling that storytellers are less of a focus for couples and they place more value on the visual aspect.
I wouldn't say it's the camera couples are investing in. It's the feeling you create and it doesn't matter what you use as long as you make a connection with something. I focus on Story more than visuals, I want substance for my films, not just visual interest. But combining all of those things is where you create a truly beautiful product.
70 zebras is different. Normally mine are set for 50 +/- 2 for skin and 94+ for everything else
@@one901 I tend to capture more neutral across the board. In most cases I’m toggling my zebras off and eyeballing exposure. As long as mu Exposure meter is reading 0 I’m rolling with it
