Hi Jason, I am looking for a camera to record our interior design projects, whether I should go for FX30 or can I get enough results with ZV E10 for posting our project videos and photos to RUclips and instagram
*I had the A6400 and it's a Nice Hybrid Camera Hands down one of the Best APS-C Camera's out there. BUT the FX30 is ALSO a APS-C sensor WHICH is also a Cinematic Starter Camera that's More Video Focused and THAT is what I want, I just can't seem to get one BUT I hope to before I leave in June for Vacation so I can learn about this camera as I've never had this type of Camera. Now How this will compared with the ZV-1 style FF camera should be interesting*
If you just do video, the FX30 is a great choice. APS-C continues to be a great sensor size for pros and amateurs alike. I would still choose the FX30 over the A6700 today if all I did was video.
Thank you so much for visiting Niigata again Jason! We shared your video with the artisans and ryokan and they are SO happy. (they cant understand any of the English though haha)
The FX30 is incredible with all of the upgrades. I just got mine this week. If you're an APS-C shooter and you shoot videos, it will blow you away. The difference in 8 bit to 10 bit alone will bring about a professional quality that you didn't know you were capable of. Also all cameras come with the upgrade of gear, SD cards and such. Go with the FX30 over the full frame for massive savings.
@Punct Daniel the 10-20mm is an amazing lens and I love it for this camera. Particularly when telling a story with my gimbal. Now, the 16-55mm 2.8 is my everyday, everything lens. Incredible for photography. While also amazing for tripod shots with the FX30. I use other lenses in my kit, but these two are more often than not attached to the front of my camera. We're talking 90% of the time.
@Aimal Noman I'm an APSC shooter and likely biased because of it. While the full frame is better for lower light performance, my FX30 does very well in low light. As in paying customers love the content I produce at nighttime events. Money is always the biggest factor. Full frame will cost more both initially and over time, and there is no escaping that. There will be no regrets going with the FX30, but ultimately the choice is yours. BTW, I'm pretty sure I dropped $500 on the two V90 128 GB memory cards. You might want to consider that as well when choosing your next camera as it's a nice bump. P.S. I think I want larger memory cards for longer shoots. If you're only doing content for you and your RUclips channel, that shouldn't be an issue for you. Hope this helps.
Maybe the best video you guys have produced... I don't know if you can keep up the review + travel adventure format, but if you can you guys will hit 500k - 1million in no time. This is a camera video I can watch with my wife. Well done!
wow thanks Jay! The only tough thing about making reviews now is frequency in uploads! but the travel aspect gives me better perspectives on the gear so it helps keep things fresh!
You always release a video when I most need it. I was just looking for a video like this to help me determine whether or not to get the FX30. Love your new series and can't wait to see the next episode!!
I absolutely love the aesthetics of the FX3 and FX30, especially since I never use the viewfinder on cameras due to wearing glasses. I hope Sony brings this look to their standard hybrid cameras
Outstanding! Thank you, I just got the fx30, it’s a little overwhelming but I really like it and want to learn. You helped me to understand. I subscribed to ur channel love it.
I "upgraded" from an a73 to an fx30 since I'm more of a video shooter. The video centric features, 10bit colour, cineEI etc. I can buy 4 amazing APSC lenses for the price of one gmaster. I could've had an fx3/a7siii, or an fx30 with a couple lenses and an rs3 pro for the exact same money. Easy choice.
Just ordered my fx30. Upgrading from an a7iii. Super excited. I never really push my iso past 2500 anyway so low light isn’t an issue for me. And I very much enjoy the sharpness of the fx30 since it’s downsampling from a 6k sensor. Super excited to get my hands on this.
What about low light capability? Also, would you still recommend the fx30 for video if you’re outside the US where it’s more expensive than the A7 iii?
Great review! Have been watching tons of reviews of the fx30. And your review, was the one that convinced me that this is my next purchase. Coupled with all my Apache sigma primes, as well as sigma 18-50 f2.8 and the new sigma 701200 f2.8 sport I will be wedding ready. I am an Apache shooter up to the canon C200 so this just makes sense. When I need to see in the dark, I will throw my Sony a7111 on the gimbal or go with my sigma 16 and 30 1.4 primes. But yes money is an issue and this camera hits all the markers. You are my favorite reviewer and thank you for helping this forever to decide shooter make her choice. You are a rock star!!!!❤❤
The FX cameras have almost tempted me to come back to Sony since I took a hiatus after the A7II. I really like the no EVF form factor and raw power of these cameras. Maybe I have to rent one to see if all my Sony fears are unjustified now.
The FX 30 is frankly an amazing camera. It's pretty much perfect 👍 My only criticism is it can't shoot in 6K resolution. However, for standard 4K delivery production this is an awesome piece of kit !

Really great review with a view of Niigata, loved it. The FX30 is a really great camera, light and compact for travel use, that is why I got one. I’ve tested the Cine EI feature in low light at night and found it works really well. First Sony camera and I’ve started to try out the Log shooting modes and really like it. This camera produces some really nice images.
Love this review! Definitely considering getting the FX30 for my videos. Curious on lens recommendations to pair with this for both travel, short films, and interviews. Thanks!
Excellent video, especially your “commercial” for the travel business. I have had the a6500 for 4.5 years. I just an amateur photographer but I like a “real” camera over a cellphone camera. You nearly had me sold on the FX30, but no viewfinder and no built-in flash (and $1800 is quite a bit, but I could use the APSC lenses I already have). I seriously considered going to the a7C a few months ago, but the conversion cost was to much to justify (converted for full-frame lenses). I think the FX30 might be a better choice over a7C for those already invested in APSC lenses. I’ll have to look at the specs of the FX30. Maybe it might be a good choice if my a6500 decides it has taken enough pictures and videos. Thanks again.
I enjoy your videos. You're personality really comes through. I've recently decided to post some of my videos to youtube and wanted to add more quality footage to enhance my viewer's experience. Being new to the camera world, I wanted to know what's the best camera for starters like myself at an affordable price. Mind you, all I have are a couple GoPros and my iPhone14. While all the jargons are still foreign to me, you've help me narrow down my choices to improve the quality of my shots. Keep it up and keep having fun!
The FX30 is a video camera. Blury background is primarily preferred for photos and is often overrated for video purposes. If we want to achieve a large separation of the foreground and background, then the lenses are suitable for this and, above all, a suitable shooting technique (zoom), but during normal shooting we usually want to see even a slightly blurry background, and this is precisely where the FX30 is great. I'm not a professional. I use the FX30 for family video or for my small personal projects of nature or old architecture. I believe that for these purposes this camera is a very good choice, especially for the huge selection of lenses - from the cheapest ones to the top ones used by FF cameramen. I've been shooting on the Sony FX100 (very good camcorder) for a long time and I was still waiting for the FX800. It didn't come and I reached for the FX30 because it does what I wanted. The FX3 is better in low light, but it can't do such a fundamental thing as focus breathing compensation. It also has a better display.
I'm still using my a6400 😅 Just recently found out how to (kind-of) switch off the overheating warning, which cooks the camera but allows for 30+ mins videos in 4K 24p here in South Vietnam temperature (30 degrees Celsius, except in the nights when it is 29 degree Celsius kakaa)😁 FX30 looks great...
great video Jason!!!... like your mobile setup. personally, my problem with sony aps-c, is that Sony keeps putting aps-c sensors in aps-c bodies with "aps-c limitations" an aps-c camera in a full frame body with the same processing power. will be a much better option then a FF. better IBIS, better iso performance, better battery life, ect ect. The Fx30 is the answer, we just need a A6 (aps-c in ff body) and a FX60.
i am using the sony a6400 with kit lens, does the job for me. however recently its been over heating after like 40 minutes of recording. on 30fps at 4k. in 3 years it never overheated not once, including recording in the hottest weather (thailand)
I couldn't fit in Niigata in my trip last month, but I'll visit on my next Japan trip (hopefully with a new Sony camera lol). I think everyone needs to visit Yamagata tho.
@@MylesInfocus You can get the JR East Pass (Niigata Area) and do a trip up to Niigata and to the Shonai Area of Yamagata for about 150$ roundtrip :) Yamagata and Niigata pair together very well!
I want a full frame fx3 so bad but I'm broke not sure I can get the fx30 but this video sold me on that aim. In addition you put another dream bucket travel location in the map for me. I had not heard of this place and it's beautiful. I still want to see Kyoto but if I'm able to make it there this will have to be added. Thanks!
I'm feeling stupid. ive watch a lot of videos on how to add luts to my fx30 and when the videos get to the part i need to add these luts to my card to import to my camera i don't see any luts or how to get them. What am i missing?
Sony fx30 is affordable but as a young guy who lives in 3rd country, Fx30 is goal this year. Not easy at all to reach 1k per month for a avarage student like me but I will do my best to get it soon
Hello Jason! Super content as usual. Please I have a few questions. 1. I want to get the fx30 for wedding shoots. Does it overheat? 2. I shoot a TV show with the A73 and it blows out white surfaces. I have to cut down a lot to accommodate such surfaces but the rest of the picture suffers. How can I fix this? Thanks Jason
I haven’t experienced any overheating and with the built in fan, it helps mitigate it even more. I would say meter for the highlights instead so you don’t blow your highlights.
im currently trying to save up for this camera myself, was looking at the FX3 but thats way over my price range, tbh even this camera is over my price range but i want it so bad. im only making $150 a month from babysitting but hopefully by the end of this year ill be able to get my FX30 :)
Better with FX30 with APSC lenses. It has the 6k oversample sensor. Using APSC lenses on FX3 means you’re cropping into the 4K sensor so it’s not gonna look as sharp.
How does it act and look if using full frame lenses on the apsc fx30? I’m really interested in getting one, but will be using my current lenses for a little while?
The FX30 surely have FF quality videos ! Unfortunately I do not have enough money for it right now. I just got a used Sony a6000 and I'm very happy with it even if it does not shoot 4k.
I'm strictly a photographer, but would like an upgrade over these Sony APS-C cameras. Why no full frame cameras ? Bulky and pricey lol. I've been wanting FX30 for a while, but seeing that it does not have mechanical shutter, I opted out. But with this review, it brings hope to me that Sony will bring out a cheaper version of this camera with photo capabilities. Thanks for the Vong review. Yours are great with such heartfelt commentaries about the gripes and the strengths of this cam.
@@tomghzel I mean yeah even though he could have bought a a6400 all depending on what lenses he has a 6400 and the a6600 is relatively the same camera except for two things 6600 has built-in stabilization a bigger battery. So you're absolutely right he could buy 6600 or save some money and get a a6400
@Hagaishi TV to simply put, I have outgrown my a6300 which has been my main camera for the past 5 years. Don't get me wrong, still is a fantastic camera, but I want to jump into color grading which 10 bit 422 will allow me to have more flexibility.
Love the Chris Broad cameo. 😂 How easy it it to generally shoot EI but use the aperture to make the micro adjustments, and only switch to EI 2500 when you're making that switch to night or something? I generally don't care about being wide open. So if it doesn't feel too limiting to use aperture only to control exposure, I'd be into it.
I bought the fx 30 to make my vlogs, and I have doubts about the profile picture (pp11, slog 3 or a cinetone) because I never control the light and I m traveling with my family. Which do you recommend for vlogs?
i was thinking of buying the panasonic lumix s5 ii but seeing this now the sony fx30 is way cheaper and the footage looks the same.. any advice for a beginner in videography of what to get?
Hi sir , I would like to buy this camera for the my own business because of some oil company wanted me to make some operations video So do you think this camera it’s an atex camera ? I mean can I use it without worrying an explosion ? Please help me thanks
I am on the fence. I can afford a FX3 . But was leaning on buy a Siii. But after seeing this video. The FX 30 looks like a great Camera and half the Price of the FX3. This is a hard choice.
oh man I'm still stuck on which cam to buy! I can't decide to get the Fx30 or the A7s3/FX3.. one is cheap but apsc and is not good for photography (which I do use every now and then) The other costs a lot and is a Full Frame beast but the lenses cost a lot more than apsc lenses.. and is the low light king as well. 😢 help a bro out. I currently have a Sony a6400 and I'll be getting into filmmaking/cinematography soon.
@@SianCKB the noise is very bad. Sonys footage doesnt clean up Noise reduction very well in Davinci. Buy a used fx3. better lowlight and the noise pattern looks more like grain. I spent a week traveling Europe with the fx30 and I sold it after I got the footage in my computer. Youre gonna pay 2400 after tax for the fx30. I bought my fx3 used with top handle and it looked brand new for 3000. I bought a used mint condition 24-70 gm mark 1 for $1000. you literally dont need to buy another lens. The full frame goodness is everything they say it is. You can get really good images from a 24-105 f4 on full frame, which is significantly cheaper to buy. any f2.8 lens will need a f1.8 for the equivalent light on APSC.
@@bmefilms6879 oh damn! Thanks for the reply bro! You saved me.. 😅 bad thing is there aren't a lot of used a7s3's and FX3's here in Belgium. So I think I'll be waiting for a price drop, if it ever happens..
Looking at upgrading from a ZV-E10; FX30 seems like a no-brainer. I really want some 4k120. My use case is 90% outdoor, bright-sun, mid-day video (trails, Jeeps, etc.). I use the Sony 11mm f/1.8, Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. Is there an alternative camera for this use case that I should consider?
At the price point you should be buying the a7iv, (my opinion) this sensor will be in £700 cameras by the end of the year and it doesn't hold up well at all over iso 3200
So question, if you weren't a professional and just a casual traveler and pic taker would you have stayed with the a6500 or found a way to bump up to this guy or the other high end Sony's? Only asking cause I really like these newer cameras but haven't found a need to go away from my a7III, just moving from the a6000 took my brain some convincing.
For casual photography only, a6500 or any of the a6x00 cameras are more than good enough! The only reason to get a better APS-C or something more high end would be for the video capabilities. In the realms of APSC, FX30 is currently the best choice!
Thanks for the video, it’s amazing! Also I have 3 months using the Sony Fx30; recently I buy the Sony 11mm f1.8 to use with my Crane M2 original 😅 in a short travel video and, oh man! what a marvelous experience! Light, easy to balance, run and shoot ideal setup (maybe I upgrade to the M3). And I need to visit Niigata, May be the next year, what time of the year you go? Saludos.
Buy FX30 or wait for the next A6x00 camera?? My VONG awaited FX30 Review!

Truly interesting way to review Sony FX30!! Now I seriously consider to have it🤣
I'm entertained. Thanks Vong 🔥🔥
how’s the low light compared to a full frame?
Slightly more grain but I found my footage at ISO 6400 usable!
This is such a well rounded review! Love it
The FX30 is a video camera.
I see you shoot often in DR Auto, not afraid of more noise with that setting ? Great video ! 👌
I’m on an A6000, been pushing this thing to it’s limit since it’s been out 🥴🥴 getting the fx30 soon can’t wait. Lml
the upgrade will feel MASSIVE!
@@JasonVong I can imagine 😢😢
Brought my fx30 to Hakuba japan skiing , oh it handles -10 great so far even with smallrig battery
i am using the sony a6400 with kit lens, does the job for me. however recently its been over heating after like 40 minutes of recording. on 30fps at 4k. in 3 years it never overheated not once, including recording in the hottest weather (thailand)
Do you have the "allow high temp" setting on?
@@jeremyg9305 yes it's set to highest setting
I couldn't fit in Niigata in my trip last month, but I'll visit on my next Japan trip (hopefully with a new Sony camera lol). I think everyone needs to visit Yamagata tho.
we are thinking of Yamagata next!
@@JasonVong The drive to Ginzan Onsen alone is worth it!
@@JasonVong you suck..
@@MylesInfocus You can get the JR East Pass (Niigata Area) and do a trip up to Niigata and to the Shonai Area of Yamagata for about 150$ roundtrip :) Yamagata and Niigata pair together very well!
Awesome my dude, thanks!
Very informative, fantastic presentation..I love it,
I've been waiting for more real world reviews. I love the fact that you hold out Jason and give us real perspective. I think i want one of these.
hi Jason Vong i got sony fx 30 but not clear video and nike color could you teach me edit color like you thank
Great video. How did you get it to balance on the crane. Couldn’t do it on mine
On the Sony FX30, you can store custom LUTs and apply them for monitoring, but you cannot bake them directly into the footage.
I have the Fx6 now for nearly 2 years and I think the fx3 would be a great b cam 😀👍🏻
Any recommendation for ND filters to use with the fx30 and Sony 11mm ?
i've just been using my 67mm Polar Pro for years now. I'd just pick up a step up ring if the lenses are smaller
@@JasonVong Thank you very much for the reply !! love the content
Thanks!
Thanks!
appreciate the Super T. Hanks, Lee!
Thanks
Thanks for the Super T. Hanks, Toro!
You guys are already testing Sony a7000/ZV100!!! Looking forward for this
Is it true that the low light performance is not that great on this camera?
All I can say is... I don't know HOW I've gone so long without visiting Japan!
due for visit!
Same! I've been trying to convince my partner to go to Tokyo with me, but this year we have a nice summer European tour... Next year for sure.
I've been three times and loved it.
Don't feel bad, most of us are in the same boat.
@@JasonVong thank you so much Jason! I appreciate your help. Keep winning!
super fun and informative. thanks!
im currently trying to save up for this camera myself, was looking at the FX3 but thats way over my price range, tbh even this camera is over my price range but i want it so bad.
im only making $150 a month from babysitting but hopefully by the end of this year ill be able to get my FX30 :)
Tou should try viltrox 13mm, better than 11 and 15mm in my opinion
The pricing aside. What has more of a disadvantage? Using a FX 30 or using a FX3 with APSC Lenses?
Better with FX30 with APSC lenses. It has the 6k oversample sensor. Using APSC lenses on FX3 means you’re cropping into the 4K sensor so it’s not gonna look as sharp.
Is there any way to shoot full 6k video in these Sony camera
How does it act and look if using full frame lenses on the apsc fx30? I’m really interested in getting one, but will be using my current lenses for a little while?
Hello jason it was very educational watching your vids I'm living in Japan too hopefully we can met someday
can you recommend a good all orange lenses for the fx30 I already have the 11mm 1.8
The FX30 surely have FF quality videos !
Unfortunately I do not have enough money for it right now.
I just got a used Sony a6000 and I'm very happy with it even if it does not shoot 4k.
Most entertaining review i've seen for this camera. Love this!
thanks Paul!
I hope that it goes well as a B cam for my A7IV. This camera is SO awesome!
Perfect content 👏👏👏
I'm strictly a photographer, but would like an upgrade over these Sony APS-C cameras. Why no full frame cameras ? Bulky and pricey lol. I've been wanting FX30 for a while, but seeing that it does not have mechanical shutter, I opted out. But with this review, it brings hope to me that Sony will bring out a cheaper version of this camera with photo capabilities. Thanks for the Vong review. Yours are great with such heartfelt commentaries about the gripes and the strengths of this cam.
Cheaper? It's only 1500$ lol. That's a budget price. Or get a a6400. It has great video capabilities and stills are beautiful
Can't wait to upgrade my a6300 to the fx30
I'm curious why would you upgrade a 6300 which is a stills and video camera for a video centric camera? I'm very interested in your answer
I'm curious to why you didn't buy the A6600 already
@@tomghzel I mean yeah even though he could have bought a a6400 all depending on what lenses he has a 6400 and the a6600 is relatively the same camera except for two things 6600 has built-in stabilization a bigger battery.
So you're absolutely right he could buy 6600 or save some money and get a a6400
@Hagaishi TV to simply put, I have outgrown my a6300 which has been my main camera for the past 5 years. Don't get me wrong, still is a fantastic camera, but I want to jump into color grading which 10 bit 422 will allow me to have more flexibility.
@@HagaishiSama those two have the same sensor as the a6300 and the same video quality..
I like the look of the FX30.
Awesome review. You almost convinced me to fx30 instead 7C ;)
How do I set up continuous autofocus while recording video so its always autofocusing on the Centrepoint?
Love the Chris Broad cameo. 😂
How easy it it to generally shoot EI but use the aperture to make the micro adjustments, and only switch to EI 2500 when you're making that switch to night or something?
I generally don't care about being wide open. So if it doesn't feel too limiting to use aperture only to control exposure, I'd be into it.
Hi Jason,
Could I get the link of the lenses that you’re talking about in this video please. I’m about to buy an FX30.
Thank you!
很高兴看到这只内容,感觉有很多的收获而且可以看到这台机器的一些优势和缺点,希望可以看到你更多的内容。
I bought the fx 30 to make my vlogs, and I have doubts about the profile picture (pp11, slog 3 or a cinetone) because I never control the light and I m traveling with my family. Which do you recommend for vlogs?
i was thinking of buying the panasonic lumix s5 ii but seeing this now the sony fx30 is way cheaper and the footage looks the same.. any advice for a beginner in videography of what to get?
Hi sir , I would like to buy this camera for the my own business because of some oil company wanted me to make some operations video
So do you think this camera it’s an atex camera ? I mean can I use it without worrying an explosion ? Please help me thanks
I am on the fence. I can afford a FX3 . But was leaning on buy a Siii. But after seeing this video. The FX 30 looks like a great Camera and half the Price of the FX3. This is a hard choice.
get the fx3. fx30 has noise issues for me and the second iso isnt really a second. a7siii is still the king
@@SaxSpy Thank you. A7 Siii sounds more like the camera for me. And I love Full frame Camera's.
@@shalgiva less noise than a1 when i shot them side by side
Love the D4Darious transitions 😂
salve il viewfinder che ha usato sapete dirmi di quale brand sia oppure il modello grazie
Amazing video. 👏 Question. What do you recommend between FX30 .. aZVE10... or a6700?
oh man I'm still stuck on which cam to buy! I currently have a Sony a6400 and I'll be getting into filmmaking/cinematography soon.
dont get the FX30.
@@bmefilms6879 For real? Why not? 👀
Great video! Your voice sounds like Flynt Flossy. I see myself out...
At the price point you should be buying the a7iv, (my opinion) this sensor will be in £700 cameras by the end of the year and it doesn't hold up well at all over iso 3200
For recording DJs? With Sigma 16mm and 18-50. I had in mind the 6700, but FX has 2 SD slots… help me choose!
@@JasonVong you suck..
Saludos.
